Re: [beagleboard] Multiple IP camera streaming in BBB

2014-12-18 Thread Vinayak Aghor
Hello All,
I want to use IP camera Qorivva MPC5604EKIT.
http://www.freescale.com/webapp/sps/site/prod_summary.jsp?code=MPC5604EKIT&nodeId=01624606C1427E

This freescale indivisual board comes with preloaded software & IP 192.168.1.2

I will use 4 such boards then I want to combine these videos to get
combined view from all cameras.

WebRTC gives option for video chatting. Does this help to create usecase?

Regards,
Vinayak

You raise some good points. Beagleboard-X15 is based on DRA7 architecture
which is the next generation after OMAP5 targeted at the Automotive industry
(at least that is my understanding). One issue with DM3730 is that there is
no SysLink equivalent (RPMSG/REMOTEPROC) that works in Linux Kernels after
V3.4, which means you cannot use the DSP unless you implement RPC and Remote
DSP load yourself. RPMSG/REMOTEPROC is already working on Beagleboard-X15
and TI expect to push this into mainline early 2015. From what Robert Nelson
tells us, Beagleboard-X15 kernel V3.18 is mostly in mainline and there are
very few patches. I¹ll wait for Robert to respond as to the status of X15
camera support.

Well considering the rPI is armv5 versus armv7 on the beaglebone black . .
. You probably have some "porting" to do.

Re: [beagleboard] A new camera board for the Beagleboeard XM - Vifff-024

2014-12-18 Thread Hristo Laftchiev
I think that the problem with every processor is to manage also the Image
Signal Processor, which is
the entry port of the video stream toward the main processor memory space.
With the new processor
(compatible with Cortex A-15 but which one? - omap5 or ?) one must redo the
drivers for the ISP
and also change the boaromap3beagle.c file in the Linux kernel with
appropriate settings
for the camera. I hope also that the camera port will be also pin to pin
compatible with the cameras
for Beagleboard XM. So, let me resume:
1. Beagle Bone can have camera attached, but not through the natural ISP of
the processor.
2. BBB - I must see.
3. BB-XM is for now the ideal choice from the Beagle family of boards to
attach a camera.
4. BB-A15 is in the future and we do not know how much time will take to
write the appropriate drivers for the ISP
of the unknown processor. For the BB-XM (DM3730 is OMAP3 architecture),
before the drivers became really well functioning
it took 2,5 years of development. The right persons to ask about future
camera compatibility of this are J. Kridner or L. Pinchart.
Because the software support for the ISP of the processor is decisive for
the appearance of working camera boards for it.
So for now, we stay with BB-XM, which works, it has enough processor power
+ DSP and is very stable.
Cheers,
Hristo

[beagleboard] Re: Internal error messages

2014-12-18 Thread Tommi
Ooops it did it again..*trallalla*

Just got exactly the same error again. only the numbers in the brackets []
are different, but I suspect this is system time or something.

So I guess there is nothing I can do?

Bought the beaglebone in summer, and have been playing with it since. For
most of the time it has been lying on my desk without case or so, therefore
I guess heat should not be an issue (also at nights it gets well below 20 C
indoors these times!)

Re: [beagleboard] GPIO AINx output fluctuations

2014-12-18 Thread Chad Baker

Analog or digital ground? The two are different.
The digital ground will appear to float since the two are not connected.
AGND is at P9-34, whereas GND is P9-1, P9-2, P9-43->46 and P8-1, P8-2.

Hello,

I am trying use the Beaglebone Black to monitor a smoke detector
activation. I have two wires coming from the smoke detector, ground
and positive lead. The voltage on the wires will go to 0.6v when the
detector is activated. I have the ground connected to the P9 header
GNDA_ADC and the positive wire from the detector going to AIN6. When
monitoring the base values of AIN6 without the detector being
activated I get a wide range of values. Example output below...

 pin AIN6 value is 2
pin AIN6 value is 105
pin AIN6 value is 0
pin AIN6 value is 0
pin AIN6 value is 687
pin AIN6 value is 195
pin AIN6 value is 29
pin AIN6 value is 1799
pin AIN6 value is 182
pin AIN6 value is 0

When the detector is activated the AIN6 value will just be above 1000.
However the random base values frequently exceed 1000 as well
resulting in a lot of false positive activations.

My questions..

1. Why is there so much variance in the base AIN values when no
voltage is being applied? Should it not be near or at zero?
2. What can I do to remedy this so I can get consistently low baseline
AIN values so I do not generate false positive activations?

Please remember - newbie question with very basic knowledge of
electronics.

Thanks

There is some data publicly available for the X15 processor:

...but the info I posted earlier was for the BeagleBone and the AM335x,
as it wasn't clear (to me) you were asking about the X15.

As for how many PRU pins will be available (pinned out to accessible
connectors), that depends on the schematic which isn't available yet.

Typically, the capacitive touch sensor is connected via USB. The one I used
was from Chalk Elec which is LCD with Capacitive Touch sensor already
attached to the display. This does work with BBB.

I've got a pinout spreadsheet color-coded with PRU I/O (and GPIO bank
numbers and other useful info) in github:

https://github.com/cdsteinkuehler/beaglebone-black-pinmux/blob/hal_pru_generic/pinmux.ods

If you're wanting to do output, you can use standard GPIO pins (accessed
via the internal SoC L4_PERport1 bus) for all but the most timing
sensitive applications. The writes get posted so they don't stall the
PRU unless you do a bunch of them back-to-back, and the total latency is
only around 100 ns. I've got timing details from tests I ran in some
code comments:

https://github.com/machinekit/machinekit/blob/master/src/hal/drivers/hal_pru_generic/pru_generic.p#L135-L163

For inputs, you really *DO* want to use the direct PRU pins, as it takes
about 165 nS to read from a GPIO register via the SoC fabric, vs one 5
nS PRU clock for the direct inputs.

I don¹t know enough to offer any advice but I asked my brother-in-law who

I wrote an app that used SDL, but it had to use (I think) a software frame
buffer, something about there not being support in the kernel for some hardware
frame buffer? I'm not sure what it was. But I'd love to be able to use SDL to
take over the entire display, and not use any kind of desktop or window manager
(that's just buckets of more code that slow boot/launch times).

For my app, fast update wasn't necessary (it was a process automation
controller-type thing), but it would be nice to be able to draw as fast as
possible with SDL.

Does this work now?

Thanks!

I have plugged an USB câble into the BBB USB port that may be incompatible as
it has an extra jack output ( I used it with my old mobile phone ).

Since then the BBB won't boot and now when I hook the original USB cable, that
came with the beagle, the pwr led light for less than a second then goes off

Is there anything I can do or is my beagle officially dead?

[beagleboard] Re: Here is the BeagleBone Debian (beta) image you want to test

2014-12-18 Thread mbbackus
I recently tried running some OpenCV code that works fine independently but
crashes with a "select timeout" error when I try running it while I have my
mini wifi module from Adafruit plugged in to provide wireless access via an
AP network. Both the camera and the wifi module are plugged into a usb hub.
I've done some research online and it sounds like the Bone's USB DMA
support might not be up to the task. I've read about using other kernels
and was wondering what was built into this image.

I also read another post about including
NEON:
http://blog.lemoneerlabs.com/3rdParty/Darling_BBB_30fps_DRAFT.html#x1-6000doc

Is that optimization already built into this image?

Anyone have any other ideas for getting the Beaglebone to handle both a
cheap USB camera and WiFi module, or is this something that would be better
handled by the Raspberry Pi B+? I like controlling motors directly from the
bone with the handful of PWM pins it sports, but wireless debugging is a
little higher on my priority list so I can move to a Pi and an Arduino if
necessary.

[beagleboard] Re: How fast/reliable is ADC sampling from the PRU

2014-12-18 Thread lucianocalaca3
Hey TJF,

So, if I'm understandig it right, what I conclude is that with only one ADC
working, the maximum sample rate we can get is around 93 kHz.
Above when you answered to *jleb, *you said:

"The result is as expected, and even if I increase the frequencies, all
looks good up to a sampling rate of 200 kHz."

How can I get that sample rate? 200kHz is the maximum according to the
features of processor AM3359. (
http://www.ti.com/product/AM3359/datasheet/abstract#SPRS7176831).

Thank you for your attention.

Luciano.

[beagleboard] GPIO AINx output fluctuations

2014-12-18 Thread mab . mobile . 01
Hello,

I am trying use the Beaglebone Black to monitor a smoke detector
activation. I have two wires coming from the smoke detector, ground and
positive lead. The voltage on the wires will go to 0.6v when the detector
is activated. I have the ground connected to the P9 header GNDA_ADC and the
positive wire from the detector going to AIN6. When monitoring the base
values of AIN6 without the detector being activated I get a wide range of
values. Example output below...

 pin AIN6 value is 2
pin AIN6 value is 105
pin AIN6 value is 0
pin AIN6 value is 0
pin AIN6 value is 687
pin AIN6 value is 195
pin AIN6 value is 29
pin AIN6 value is 1799
pin AIN6 value is 182
pin AIN6 value is 0

When the detector is activated the AIN6 value will just be above 1000.
However the random base values frequently exceed 1000 as well resulting in
a lot of false positive activations.

My questions..

1. Why is there so much variance in the base AIN values when no voltage is
being applied? Should it not be near or at zero?
2. What can I do to remedy this so I can get consistently low baseline AIN
values so I do not generate false positive activations?

Please remember - newbie question with very basic knowledge of electronics.

Thanks

[beagleboard] Re: How fast/reliable is ADC sampling from the PRU

2014-12-18 Thread lucianocalaca3
Hey TFJ,

I tried that way and it didn't work. Meanwhile I was searching about it and
I found a website relating something like my problem at this forum (
http://www.freebasic.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=22501&hilit=sample+rate&start=75
).
I read the user *facine* comment, I tried and stepper worked.

Then I was scrolling and he said he still had problems. He proposed a
solution and then I saw the "enum pinMixung".
I got the code you (*TFJ*) proposed next and I put it in the library
pruio.h at /usr/local/include.

I already tried algorithms and I think it's ok. I don't know if this method
I used will bring secondary effects once I didn't understand welI what I've
changed. Maybe you can tell me, if possible.
I didn't have the oportunity to do some tests about the sample rate,
because I don't have an oscilloscope this moment. But when I have the
oportunity I will report my results to you .

I thank you very much for the time you spent helping me. :)

Best regards,
Luciano.

[beagleboard] Does anyone know about usb sound card on android.

2014-12-18 Thread zmc9499
I don't have a BBB, but I really want to know whether the BBB support usb
sound card on android or not. I have a usb mic and I wish to deliver the
sound to google now. I know some android device support usb sound card,
some don't. Could anyone who have both usb sound card and BBB do some test,
so that I could make my decision to buy BBB or not.

So what I have done so far is modify the 'am33xx.dtsi

[beagleboard] Direct PRU pins available?

2014-12-18 Thread Charles Kerr
Was curious how many PRU pins (on each PRU) would be available for direct
mapping to R30/R31 of the PRU? One of the drawbacks I have with the BBB is
the limited direct access pins for output on both PRUs (after you use the

[beagleboard] Re: Error Listening To Socket - MOOS-IvP won't run on Beaglebone Black

2014-12-18 Thread Damian Manda
I had the same problem (I am running MOOS-IvP on Ubuntu 14.04 on a
BeagleBone Black), but after adding a second call to the getprotobyname
function and recompiling, I still receive the error. Using lsof does in
fact show that it is trying to use UDP instead of TCP. The error is also
intermittent, sometimes MOOS runs fine, sometimes it only throws the error
and it seems to be more likely to have problems when running over SSH vs
direct console. Have you figured out anything else that might cause this?

[beagleboard] Implementing CAN in BBB

2014-12-18 Thread Abhishek Tewari
Hi All,

I am a newbie to BBB and was thinking to implementing a project using its
CAN controller.
My first question is : Is it really necessary to use a cape to implement
and use CAN.

I have got 2 BBB and want to make them communicate through CAN.
Can any one who have already worked on provide me some links related to BBB
and CAN.

Any more guidance is most welcome.
Thanks in advance.

[beagleboard] Gesture Recognition System

2014-12-18 Thread biswesh panda
I am working on a project where I'm trying to capture different kinds of
gestures that mute people generally make and try to link it to a audio file
which conveys the meaning of that particular gesture. I'm using opencv for
computer vision applications and BeagleBone Black. Can you tell me which
edge detection algorithms will be best suited for me? The challenge that I
may face are-
1) The color intensity of the hand may match with that of the sourrounding.
2) There's no guarantee that the background will be moving or will it be in
a standstill.

Another thing is the efficiency of the algorithm should be fast so as to
recognize the gestures quickly.

Re: [beagleboard] Re: BBB USB0 change from client to host

2014-12-18 Thread Siddhiq Ahmed
Dear Robert,

Thanks for the quick reply. I had followed the same schematics as BBB.
The USB1 is working has HOST. I have Grounded USB1_ID and I have used
USB1_DRVVBUS to drive the 5V and USB1_VBUS for sensing. But, USB0 is not
working. I have Grounded USB0_ID and I have not Used USB0_DRVBUS. But I
have connected USB0_VBUS to Permanent 5V.

The USB0 is not able to detect any device when plugged in.

Kindly, help me to sort it out.

With regards

Siddhiq

I quite agree!

There is something wrong with your board -- hopefully you get

Fingers crossed! Good luck!

Well after helping a user get can0 working on i2c2/eeprom pins, i'd
say right now. i2c2/eeprom should be an overlay and not enabled by
default. Thus a user can use can0.

So now that overlay is mainline, i'd like to setup an external repo
for all overlays on bb.org. (of course the next couple weeks are
filled with holidays..)

led name: personally i think we are stuck, the current mainline naming
has been that way for too long, i think we'll be carrying that patch
for awhile:

https://github.com/RobertCNelson/ti-linux-kernel-dev/blob/ti-linux-3.14.y/patches/beaglebone/dts/0002-dts-am335x-bone-common-fixup-leds-to-match-3.8.patch

any userspace app should really check for usr0/usr1 and use
heartbeat/mmc0 when usr0/usr1 is not present.

What about some of the baseline DT node definitions (eg., eeprom on
i2c0, ocp label)? I see there's already a name problem with the leds...

[beagleboard] How does the BeagleBone emulate a USB flash drive?

2014-12-18 Thread Pilot3514
I just got a used BeagleBone A5 and one of the features is that part of the
SD card is visible to the computer it is plugged in to as a flash drive.

How is this done?
Is there something running in the Linux that services the I/O requests?
Are there limitation?
If I mount an NFS share could that be served to the host computer as
thought it were also part of the USB flash drive?

I find this very interesting. Where can I learn more about this?

This is using the dedicated camera interface on the xM, the am335x
used on the BBB doesn't contain this IP block, thus would have much
"MUCH" slower performance. (if any performance at all)

there is no throughput or interface width 8/16 bit. limitation) It is
supposed to do bare minimum read / write on fpga

b) As an starting point i am got a sample NAND DRIVER for GPMC--- just
started going through it.

Sorry if i am missing any simple starting understanding

Thank You ,

[beagleboard] Jesse lxqt, 4.3 CAP lcd - Incorrect mouse cursor

2014-12-18 Thread Moscowbob
Hello All

I am need of some help with getting the touch screen working correctly with
the below configuration

BBB Rev C
Custom Cape with Newhaven 4.3 capactive touch screen
Image: BBB-eMMC-flasher-debian-jessie-lxqt-armhf-2014-11-19-2gb.img
Kernel: 3.14.26-ti-r41

The system boots up and the desktop appears correctly, however, when I
touch the screen, the mouse cursor hardly moves, I installed evtest and the
touch screen is showing the correct data when different sections of the
display is touched.

I am using the built in kernel driver for edt-ft5x06 chip for touch screen

How/where do I configure the desktop to use the touch screen as input or
use it as a mouse ?
Do I need to any additional packages installed in order to achieve this?

Thanks

Rob

[beagleboard] uio_pruss for 3.14 Kernel

2014-12-18 Thread Nic Cyn
Hi

I am beginning to experiment with programming the PRU's on the BBB and am
following the standard steps. The PRU dev kit downloaded and compiled ok -
however the uio_pruss driver does not seem to be available on my 3.14
kernel. The modprobe command returns:

modprobe uio_pruss
modprobe: FATAL: Module uio_pruss not found.

I am using Ubuntu 3.14 armhf - uio_pruss.ko seems to be missing in both the
generic armhf.com verison and also the

ubuntu-14.04.1-console-armhf-2014-10-29.tar.xz from RCN's repository.

I have dug around a bit and found two source code files which might be
operational on the 3.14 kernel - however I cannot get them to compile.

Does anybody know where I can get a binary uio_pruss.ko which is suitable
for a 3.14 kernel or, alternately, how to compile a device driver from
source. I gather it is something of a black art and my attempts so far have
been unsuccessful.

Thanks
