Re: Idea for Oprah?
Well , I've emailed the show several times about this same subject and have never gotten a reply back or acknowledgement it was received :-(. Guess it would be a try if a LOT of people emailed them. I don't have the address anymore Laurie Montoya S. Central PA Someone has just asked me if it would be possible to present an idea to Oprah about doing a show on the puppy mills and auctions. I know that people have raised this idea in the past (since Oprah has a few Golden Retrievers, it's possible she would have some interest in the merits of the idea), I wondered how much luck anyone has had in getting this across to the show producers? Any ideas? Pat Long ( Luther) Berwyn PA
Re: guard dog?
And I'll have to third this :-). You have to see the look on Maria's face when she cuts Daisy loose on you. It's evil personified. And she snickers the whole time. One time I pulled up , and Daisy jumped INTO the car , checking to see where I'd hidden my daughter , LOL ! I'm lucky , she waits until I'm in the house to unleash the Budman on me. I brace myself against the table and bend my knees slightly to take the slam I KNOW I'm going to get ! If you can stand still for the first ten minutes , you'll be okay. It's an experience you really don't want to miss ! He's so excited to see you ! And Maria is absolutely correct on the changing bark thing. Once they recognize my car , BOTH barks change into a howl for attention ! Luckily , my dogs do the same things (on a slightly lower level) to her when she visits me :-). Hannah MUST have her hug. Paybacks are h**l , HA ! These berners are spoiled rotten .. Laurie Montoya S. Central PA I'd have to second everything that Pat said about being greeted enthusiastically at the Crifasi Retreat when we come to visit!! Joye Neff (Samantha and Ben) Mt. Lebanon, Pittsburgh, PA
Re: Christmas Tree Topper
http://www.dogstuff.com/pagesabdogs/berner1.htm I knew I'd seen this somewhere ! Click on the above and it's on this page ... Laurie Montoya Hi Maria, Yes there are Berner Christmas Tree Toppers. I have one and bought one for each of our kids, too. I've also bought the breeds of their other dogs and our former dogs and have an Angel Dog Choir at Christmas on our piano. I'll have to figure out where I got them - it was about ten years ago that I got them. Joye Neff
Re: bathing--more tips
* You have a HELPER Cheater ... Laurie Montoya (bath time is a lonely place) S. Central PA *** And a helper is nice. I would stay in the tub doing the dogs assembly line style, then Paul would towel them dry. Flour Girl
I must give due credit to Pat Tackett for Hannah's new name :-). Thank you for the help , I felt better just knowing you all were out there ! Anyway , the um , end of this story is a little gross , but she's okay this morning. Now I know what happens when a dog eats flour right out of the bag ! A little runny is an understatement :-(. Paybacks are hell .. Laurie Montoya w/ Hannah the Flour Girl
Problem w/ flour/ help
Um , my Hannah managed to devour about 1/4 of a 5 lb bag of flour before we caught her :-(. Luckily , it's all-purpose NOT self-rising ! At any rate , it's not the best thing in the world for a dog to eat. Should I watch her for bloat symptoms ??? I'm worried !! I still can't BELIEVE she did it ! She had flour all over my kitchen , and tracked across the couch and rug :-((. And she KNOWS she was bad ! She won't even look at me. My other dog , Shelby apparently watched her do the whole thing , she has NO flour on her at all. Of all the things I would have expected a dog to grab off a counter (way back , too) it was NOT flour ! And she has it packed in her teeth :-(. I feel really bad about this . Laurie MontoyaS. Re: New e-mail address
Here's the Berner-L website : http://www.berner.org/service/ it only takes a minute :-).Laurie MontoyaPlease remember to postpone yourselves if your're going away for the holidays. Dear Berner, We have a new e-mail address. It is as follows: [EMAIL PROTECTED] . Please send any additional correspondence to this address. Thank you.
Re: Fire/emergency stickers
I hope it's OK that I posted this- I'm not connected to her in any way, other than being her best customer today! And I thought that this is an additional to make sure our pets are OK while we're away. Kendra, Jackson, and Sallie I'm pretty sure it's ok to post about a site , as long as you have no affliation with it. And I went to the site , and it's great !! I'm sure it's easier for the fire/rescue people if they know exactly who they're looking for and have a name to go with it. I'll be getting a few of these decals , LOL ! One for each side of the house :-). Thanks for posting about it ! Laurie Montoya PAand Hannah Banana and Shelby the Wonder Mutt
Being chased by humans
I've been taking my Hannah to a little city pretty much every day , I have to wait for my daughter while she's in ballet classes daily. Hannah is known to most of the shop owners now , and to many people who work in the area and walk past us :-). Today I got the fright of my life when a gentleman popped out of a shop behind us , yelling at me to WAIT !!! WAIT , PLEASE !!! Hannah looked at me and looked back at him , and started to wag the heck out of her tail ! I expected her to run like h**l ! He was so happy to see a berner , poor soul , LOL ! It was freezing outside , he had no coat on and stayed to pet her and talk to me for 15 minutes ! Raving about his old neighbors that had a berner , and couldn't believe his eyes when he saw Hannah walk past his shop. It was hilarious ! He asked me what kind of treats she's allowed , and wants a visit often ! She's added another victim to her schedule , HAHA ! At this rate , I won't have to pay to feed her :-). And no , he doesn't want one , just loves them. It's really cool to have a dog that has her own fan club ... has anyone else had this sort of thing happen ??? Re: Means of vacating Berner from apartment in burning building.
Good suggestion , Sherri ! And to carry it one step further , I'd give your local fire department a call and ask their advice. They may be able to tell you exactly what to look for and where to get it :-). And it helps if they know you have animals. There are stickers available for your doors and windows. Laurie Montoya S. Central PA. I am looking for something that I could carry my 85 lb., 26 tall at shoulders Bernese Mtn. Dog out through the window in the event of fire. Hi Mark, I'm not aware of anything, but your best bet might be a SAR supply company. I'm thinking that the dogs used for urban SAR are sometimes hauled from point to point in a sling or box. Try a websearch using Canine Search and Rescue as key words. -Sherri Venditti
Light bulbs ??
What I'd like to know is what possesses a dog to EAT this stuff ??? Good grief ! I mean , how good can a light bulb taste ??curious in PA , Laurie Montoya About 16 years ago, our three dogs ate a four pack of regular sized light bulbs (they ate all of the glass and left the metal ends.) The vet told us to feed them butter and mashed potatoes. Everything came out okay.. Joye Neff and Winston (Samantha and Ben) - and yes, our rescue shepherd mix, Samantha, was one of the light bulb eaters - she is now going on 19 years and hanging in there!! Mt. Re: Sick puppies sold in Northglenn, CO pet store
Well , I looked at the story , and sent in a suggestion to the station :-). I hope this didn't sound radical ! Didn't to me , anyway ! Thanks for the link , Sharon. This is where the news has a chance to further educate , if they're really interested ! Laurie Montoya PA. and Hannah Banana ! Puppy Lemon Law story , I have a suggestion. Yes , the pet store is the story here , but people need to know that these puppies are no doubt coming from puppymills. No reputable breeder would sell their puppies through a pet store. Please , please do a follow up story on puppymills , and warn the public that pet stores are not the best place to buy a purebred dog. Purebreds have specific traits to make them unique , and good breeders will be able to tell you if their breed would make a good pet for your family ! Not all dogs are meant for city living ,or do well left alone all day for an example. I don't want this to be too long , but I would be happy to elaborate if you'd like to mail me back. I belong to a breed club that is trying their best to educate the general public about how to go about buying a purebred. Another point to bring up is that Santa is NOT the best purveyor of puppies. It should be a well-though out decision , made by the entire family. Thank you , Laurie Montoya Berner-specific but it is important information for anyone looking for any breed of puppy, including BMD. http://news4colorado.com/topstories/local_story_325202512.html Sharon Montville - Firstrax - Colorado
Re: BERNER At Rockville Md Garage Collapse
I just happened to catch our local news tonight , and they showed the collapse site with the rescue dogs. It was an Aussie , I'm fairly certain :-). The dog didn't have a tail , but I would've made the same assumption if I hadn't been looking for a berner ! And the dog WAS with the search team. Sadly , they didn't find the last person alive. Laurie Montoya S. Central PA. I just saw CNN footage on the Rockville MD garage collapse. In that footage, the cameraman/woman caught what looked to be a Berner running through the building debris as if he/she had been in a car an escaped in terror. Does anyone know about this?
