[SlimDevices: Beta] Fishbone Tab bugs - 6.5
Hi, I'm not too sure if it's worth me bothering to report this sort of stuff so early in 6.5's development (although the software seems surprisingly bug-free and stable to me). So, someone tell me to shut up if this is the case. Using Browse Music Folder adding an album to the playlist using the Next icon refeshes the playlist but does not add the album to the playlist. Also... the line on the playlist window that has this written in it: The current playlist: Save / Download / Clear ...is all but hidden by the listing of the tracks below it. All I can see is the top line of pixels of this text (even in full screen mode nothing changes). This in Firefox on XP. [SlimDevices: Beta] Directory listing in Browse Music Folder in wrong (?) order
I'm assuming this is a 6.5 vagary but it might be the same for all versions of SlimServer. On my Windows machine I place all my MP3s (in their respective album folders) in a directory called _MP3 to keep them separate form the majority of my music, which is in Flac format. I used the underscore so the folder is the top folder when listed in Windows Explorer. However, SlimServer lists the folder last, which is a bit of a pain. Which is using the correct standard (if there is one), Windows or Slimserver? If it's Windows can SlimServer follow suit? otherwise what distinctive character (not a number or letter) can I use before MP3 to get the directory listed at the top of both the Windows Explorer and SlimServer folder listing? I'm certain this has been raised before but I'll be darned if I can find the post. SlimServer Version: 6.5b1 - 7936 - Windows XP - EN - cp1252 Thanks. I'm not sure about most of the playlist add/edit/save stuff. It just isn't making sense to me the last few days. You can see in the sql debug, something doesn't make sense. If It seems to add, but doesn't show up. Then if you save and look at it from the edit point, you see double or triple. The file itself then shows double or triple. It is reported a few ways in a few bugs. Mac osx 10.3.9, Win2k, Winxp. as far as I can tell, css just bites. I caved and rewrote everything, thinking that the demand for it was because its stronger, faster, better than anything come before it. Frankly...it's been a nightmare. It sucks, pure and simple. I've given all that I can, and if I ever see it happen on my setups, I promise I'll fix it. But, to be honest, that is not what I see, and I've just totally lost any interest in trying to fix what I cannot see. It just doesn't pay off, no matter how you look at it. again, I offer my sincere, deepest apologies. If it had it to do over, I think I'd opt to never have started a skin. :( -k ___ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/beta
[SlimDevices: Beta] Re: Fishbone Tab bugs - 6.5
Hi KDF. I quite understand. I am just very grateful to you for making the great skin in the first place and for MeSue for making the Tan adaptation. It's a shame the maintenance of a skin is such a painful thing. However, ss I mainly use the remote it's not so much of a problem to me personally. That said, I think the web interface needs a lot of work and that SlimDevices should be hiring a *professional* gui interface designer/web programmer to make and maintain a high quality, fast and well thought-out default skin that does the product justice. The current default skin looks like something out of 1995 (plus frames). It's appallingly ugly, basic and utilitarian and hugely lets down the whole comunity (developers and consumers alike). I'm always totally amazed that SlimDevices appear so unconcerned about the user interface that they are happy with the current default skin as the gateway to their product. It beggars belief and makes them look like a shoddy tin-pot-outfit -in-a-shed-in-the-backgarden. Rant over (well I have to have one once a year). Again, thanks for Fishbone. I've logged a bug. If you have Group Compilation Albums together enabled in server Options-Behaviour, then Browse Artist Browse Genre will only allow you to play song from Various Artists using the player remote. All songs will play from the web UI. The current playlist: Save / Download / Clear ...is all but hidden by the listing of the tracks below it. All I can see is the top line of pixels of this text (even in full screen mode nothing changes). I think I've seen similar problem simply when the browser window isn't large enough. I'm using Opera with the sidebar open all the time, grabbing about one fourth of the screen's width. The problem disappears as soon as I hide that bar. -- Michael --- Help translate SlimServer by using the StringEditor Plugin (http://www.herger.net/slim/) ___ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/beta

The scanner was working for me, but broke on the 17 June nightly. [SlimDevices: Beta] Re: 6.5b1 nightly (18.6.) Trying to commit transactions before DB is initialized!
I'm a couple days behind you on updates, but at present scanning is broken on debian. See bug 3560. Try this: su -s /bin/sh slimserver /usr/sbin/slimserver-scanner --prefsfile /etc/slimserver/slimserver.pref /path/to/music Maybe add a --wipe there if you have an empty library anyway. That works for me. (Not sure if the '-s /bin/sh' is needed or not, probably not, but I'm used to doing it on shell-less accounts.) -- snarlydwarf snarlydwarf's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1179 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24819 ___ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/beta

ah, nm, i see you're invoking slimserver-scanner manually. I do think the Default skin was a huge improvement over what used to be the default (EN). It was an offering from pro, and I think it is very clean and nicely in line with the overall SD style. However, there is always room for improvements and everyone will have a different view of what defines a proper UI. Many tout iTunes. That makes me vomit, frankly, as does all of those other programs out there that blatantly try to mimmick that very same layout. the Fishbone skin is often criticised for it's clutter. to be honest, that does make me chuckle a bit, as strangely my wife also accuses me of clutter. Even the design for Fishbone was stolen from a pic submitted to the forum. I then added what I felt like adding, and a few things I didn't want to but felt kind enough to bow to pressure. 6.5 tries to address some of the maintenance issues, as far as allowing url format changes to be made from a central location, as well as more centralised css for basic layout design. As the core EN templates change, all skins can benefit from the updates. however, even today I've had to face the fact that css is incapable of following it's own rules. In being flexible, there will be a price to pay. Thank goodness it doesn't come down to one option for OS, one option for UI and one option for browser. I've put in some updates. hope it works. hope IE doesn't screw it up. Hope firefox doesn't bitch too much about it in the console. -kdf ___ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/beta
