Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Scanner seems NOT to be case sensitiv in every routine?
One way to put it is if you . *Scanned all your files at once . *added one album at time and incrementaly scanned until your finished . * some mix of the above and then remove stuff tweak it and add again . If you not into to how computing stuff works ( I do some industrial controller Stuff , but no real coding ) you would naively expect that you ended up with an identical dB however you did it ? I thinks it's an valid expectation. Now LMS does not really work like that . Some optimisation is done between speed and precision ? I would not mind if the incremental scan was 1/2 it's current speed if some more "cleanup" or what scan does when removing stale artist and genres et al was done . It seems like add new works just fine , its the changed part that could be better ? I think our friend Frank has hit another corner case he has one of the largest windows based LMS systems around and seems to grow and change the library vigorously:) both fixing tags and adding stuff . Been there to when I did a large tag overhaul some years ago . You don't notice much of this when library is more stable and you simply add a new album now and then . Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Scanner seems NOT to be case sensitiv in every routine?
And why is the file names important ? it's the tagging thats important .Do you resort to untagged files and have LMS guesing artist etc from the file names ? Another case of case sentive vs not case sensitive are *.cue files .LMS on Win find the corrsponing flac,mp3 or wav vs on *nix the case must be rigth. AFAIK its like that: You have 10 different Artists and 100 different tracks. Two Tracks have a Artist like Abba, 8 the Artist ABBA. Now you retag the two Abba ones and do a rescan. LMS doesnt know if Abba is only used in these two retaged files only or if Abba is somewhere tagged as Band/Composer. Therefore LMS didnt remove Abba from the library. To solve this issue lms must rescan each Track from each Contributor if its still exists and the tag is also the same. On the other Hand the guys always moaning about slow performance when they scann their 500k torrents library. Choose something new... I'm aware of this fact - but just therefore I thought it wouldn't matter, if the file is called "Ich liebe Dich" or "Ich liebe dich" - or "ABBA" <=> "Abba" - for Windows is case insensitive it's the same for windows. So I don't understand what happens there: If windows sees both as the same file, scanner (who is case sensitive) should just see "changed file", (example 1) remove the old artist "Abba" and insert the new artist "ABBA". I don't understand why it keeps the old spelled "Abba" in the database - it's not included in any fire anymore - neither in the "ABBA" nor in the "Abba" directory. Or in 2nd example, scanner shows 2 different files ("Ich liebe dich" and "Ich liebe Dich"), so scanner/windows noticed the chance - but scanner should see, only ONE of them stll exists, and even if it sees both - the old spelling 'Ich liebe Dich' should be removed, for case senstive scanner should recognize it's in neither file anymore... I know, You know a thousand times more about LMS, but I just try to understand what's happening there... frank1969's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=31156 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106405 ___ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta

Nope ;-) eg your Folders look like Code: playlist - Artist --|-ABBA --|-Ayumi Hamasaki /snip \snap --|ZZ-Top you need something like a folder named - Fixit -- |-Abba and some cmd like Code: if exist ..\playlist\unfixed.m3u del ..\playlist\unfixed.m3u cd /d fixit for /f "delims=" %%a in ('dir /b /s *.mp3') do echo "tmp://%%a">>..\playlist\unfixed.m3u and your done. You even (may should) add one playlist for each Folder instead of that big playlist. Code: for /f "delims=" %%a in ('dir *.mp3 /b /s') do echo "tmp://%%a">> "..\playlist\%~na.m3u" That should work - even when its -untested- DJanGo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1516 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106405 ___ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta

Dont put new files on your lib until the tags are good. Using lms this way you never gets in trouble again with errors only a clear and rescan could fix. There are a lot of changes since the earliest days - eg. on Winblows XP must must rename files/folders from Abba to something like ABBA_ and rename it to ABBA. Under Winblows 7> just can rename Abba to ABBA in one step. [SlimDevices: Beta] Scanner seems NOT to be case sensitiv in every routine?
I see LMS' scanner beeing case sensitive in a very "special" way (Windows 10). Example #1: I had my "ABBA"-files/albums in a folder called "Abba" and artist (as well as artist album) labeled to "Abba" I recognized on all samplers they're spelled "ABBA" and I had to different artists (expected behaviour for LMS is case sensitive), so I changed artist, album artist and even folder name from "Abba" => "ABBA" What I see after a "new and changed scan" is on every file TWO artists and album artists: Album artist: Abba, ABBA Artist: Abba, ABBA If I click on the "Abba" tag and see a files source it shows me "M:\A\Abba\..." (what doesn't exist anymore) If i click the "ABBA" tag is shows as source "M:\A\ABBA\..." So to me it seems, scanner sees the "Abba" and the "ABBA" file on the one hand as two different folders (what is correct if it's case sensitive), on the other hand scanner doesn't see that the "ABBA"-folder is gone and sees the "Abba"-folder as the same as the "ABBA"-folder and even mixes the tags from "both" folders together... (in this routine scanner seems to be case insensitive)? Example #2: On an album I have Track 3 called "Ich liebe Dich" and I change it to "Ich liebe dich" (to harmonize spelling in my db). I also changed the file name from "Ich liebe Dich.mp3" to "Ich liebe dich.mp3". After a "new and changed" the song appears TWICE in my album: Both are called "Ich liebe dich" (new spelling), but one is linked to "Ich liebe dich.mp3", the other one to "Ich liebe Dich.mp3". Once again, scanner obviously sees them as two different files, but doesn't recognize, that the "Ich lieb Dich.mp3"-file is gone (maybe in this routine scanner once again is case insensitive)? Many thanks for caring for it blows up my collection a lot (and it happens "every day anew" for the tags I get from iTunes oder Amazon are a desaster and I have to fix them on weekend or on holidays - but I don't get rid of the "initially wrong ones") frank1969's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=31156 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106405 ___ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta
