2012-05-29 Thread chill

You can set apps to run automatically when a user logs in, but I'm not
sure about how to set them to run on boot without a user logging in. Is
your Mac set to log in a default user at startup? If so, that user's
login items will run automatically when you reboot.

Go to 'System Preferences' -> 'Users & Groups', select a user in the
left hand panel, and then select the 'Login Items' tab in the right hand
panel. You'll see a list of programs that run whenever that user logs
in, and you can add and remove items in that list.

Virtual box had made a Virtual Ethernet Adapter in “network

I'm a network engineer, not a programmer. I understand how protocols
work and such which is why I said that it should be easy, I'm not
positive it is easy but I assumed it would be. I'm not saying I wasn't
willing to work on it myself, I just haven't looked up even how to get
started to work on it. What do you suggest I do to get started? I'd be
more than happy to try and provide a patch for this but I don't have
any background with C++ or anything like that.

Developers don't sell hardware. Maybe if you convinced a *marketing*
guy that this had some merit then you'd one day see the feature. But as
we've all heard, Logitech gave up on marketing the Squeezebox quite a
while ago.

What percentage of users do you thing want to connect a hardware
Squeezebox remotely to their networks? I'd venture that it's very
small. And then what percentage of those don't have relatively stable
IP addresses? Even if it did work more easily, it's a serious security
risk to just open up your network to this traffic without using either
a VPN or SSL. So the next thing people would insist upon would be the
ability to establish a secure connection from SqueezePlay.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Squeezeplay - DNS lookup for server

2011-12-01 Thread yeomanspc

I've had this issue with remote players too for years and years. I gave
up and paid the extra to get my own fixed ip. What the developers don't
seem able to grasp is that they might actually sell more hardware if
people could use it remotely. They also don't seem able to grasp that
for people in the developing world (sad to admit it but increasingly
the UK feels like that) WAN ip addresses do change daily or even more
frequently - certainly my 'non-fixed' line can. Imagine asking a
non-nerd to ping the name to extract the ip, then reconfigure the
player with the new ip. You end up doing what everyone else does and
buy an iPod - or stump up for the fixed ip.
As for priorities, is sorting Facebook and Twitter and all these other
gimmicks really more important than sorting the basics?

Don't get me wrong, I'm supportive of your efforts. But the bug is
years old, there are only two developers in total, and one has just

Just out of curiosity, how often does your home IP address change? Even

once a day?

When I used to connect from work I used the web interface to control
playback (using Squeezeslave as the player). IMO, much better than
either SqueezePlay or Softsqueeze interfaces.

in a future build? Verizon Fios uses dhcp and the last I talked to them

times in the course of 2 months. I get to everything from my home
server using my dyndns name.. I never use a static IP to get to my home
network with any of the devices I use.

>From looking online, I'm not the only one that uses this to try and
access my library remotely and have came into the same issue. I'm using
softsqueeze but the interface isn't exactly the greatest to use. I
figure the new version is Squeezeplay and minds well be updated so we
can all move on from Softsqueeze with the same amount of
functionality... I'm not trying to be a jerk or whatever, I'm trying to
help, I realize this isn't a production piece of software but it's not
like there are many options out there.. this type of program should be
available as an official download from Logitech or whatever to just aid
with the Squeezebox platform...

Yes, SqueezePlay isn't a production piece of software. It was developed
as a player emulator as a testing tool. When used on a local network it
will find the server automatically, so it normally works without a
problem.

My home cable IP address hasn't changed in two and half years, so
SqueezePlay or Squeezeslave or any other player that requires an IP
address works great remotely.

So the situation where you're connecting remotely _and_ your IP address
is constantly changing is the only scenario where you need DNS
resolution.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Squeezeplay

2011-11-29 Thread kllngtme

Is there a reason for this? Dynamic DNS was made for a reason, because
IP addresses can change at any given time. I really don't understand
this entirely, if Squeezeplay is the new soft interface for us to get
to our libraries via a computer and or remotely and such, this should
be implemented. Why was it taken out in the first place? This should be
such a simple thing, I bet if you add just the spots where you can
insert in letters instead of only numbers, this feature might just work
right away without any more configurations...

Not likely.

If you prefer the interface of SqueezePlay, you could probably run
Softsqueeze as the music player and then control it through
SqueezePlay.

I mixed both names as using softqueeze up to now, but removed it from

If you are using Softsqueeze and not Squeezeplay - then the issue is a
firewall.

You should give the version no's of the players, SBS and OS you are

If you are in fact using Softsqueeze - it would be better to start a

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] SqueezePlay on 64bit Win7

2011-10-31 Thread Flyingfufu

Hi all,

I have the latest version of softsqueeze installed on 2 different PCs.

It is working fine on a XP SP3 computer, wire on the LAN. However, it
doesn't work on my laptop running under win 7 64 bits. Connexion is
done via WIFI and no chance to access to the server. The soft starts
well, it get visible on the web page of the server or on the SB.com
page, but no chance to access the music files.

Also tried in compatibility mode, but there it blocks the music to be
running on any other platform (softqueeze or duet)as long as running.
Sound comes again immediately after shutting down soft squeeze on the
laptop.

Any additional idea is welcome.

I've just got back from holiday to find exactly the same problem -
squeezeplay searches for my libary and eventually reports that it can't
connect. However, if I open the SBS web control and select a track, the

through the pc speakers - you just don't have any control with the

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] SqueezePlay on 64bit Win7

2011-09-12 Thread WB3FFV

I have SP 7.6.2 running here one a Win7 Ultimate x64 machine, and it's
doing fine, and I even have Active Directory running here with logins,
so I am NOT running as Admin while using SP. It's connecting to my
Server which is in the same LAN, but is a different machine running
Win2K8r2 x64 as my server, and I have run the 7.6, and now the 7.7
media server. I am sitting here at this very moment listening to
music on my SP here at my Win7 machine, so I know it will work.

I wish I could offer some suggestions as to what is wrong, but I doubt
it has anything to do with permissions, but the normal programs files
directories are in general treated somewhat different. If you think
it's an installed directory permissions issue, I'd suggest making say a
"Programs" directory which I do for a few things, and then install in
that directory and then you will have full permissions to write to as a
normal user.

Also make sure you don't have anything blocked in the firewall if your
connecting remotly, as that would kill you as well with making it
work..

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] squeezeplay rebuffering on same PC

2011-05-13 Thread bpa

I saw something similar with Softsqueeze when it needed to be updated
for 7.3.x. The problem with Softsqueeze was due to process locking
which was easy to find with Java console. Is there a lua console to
see what Squeezeplay is doing ?

With Windows there is the added possibility of security s/w which
generally treat network streams between processes on the same system as
dangerous.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] squeezeplay rebuffering on same PC

2011-05-13 Thread Phil Leigh

I'm getting this error in server.log when using Squeezeplay on the same
machine as SBS. No message or problem at all if using different
machines for SP and SBS.

Any ideas gratefully received!

Definitely not a hardware issue... 2 different machines, 2 OS's - same
outcome!
I can install and run adplus, but analysing a stack trace... :-(

Does anyone else see this?

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] SqueezePlay 7.6 Audio Dies Overnight

2011-03-02 Thread roobarb!

This problem boiled down to a missing /etc/asound.conf file on the
system. Adding this file with the simplest of contents:

pcm.!default {
type hw
card 0
}
ctl.!default {
type hw
card 0
}

Brought non-dying audio to SqueezePlay. OK, it also removed the mixer
abilities, but as this system would only play audio from SqueezePlay
that's not really an issue for me.

yes this will work. I use SP on my laptop to control all the players at
my house. You may have to go to Settings > HOME MENU then tick the box
next to choose player. This will put it on your home menu page.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] SqueezePlay 7.6 Audio Dies Overnight

2010-09-16 Thread roobarb!

Right, I've managed to get a log file from SqueezePlay. This morning the
audio hadn't died entirely, but it had become stuttery and broken up. A
quick look through the log shows up this error about 8 or 9 times:

I'm not sure if that's anything to do with it or not. Can anyone shed
any light? I've left a copy of the whole log file here:

if anyone would be kind enough to give it a quick look over?

Unfortunately, his morning it had also failed.

I'm doing a little work to the OS to see if I can fix it and will try

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] SqueezePlay Full Screen with X11 Screensaver

2010-08-30 Thread roobarb!

Found a solution, although it's really a cheat.

Instead of entering fullscreen, I'm now toggling the visibility of the
panel with 'xdotool windowunmap' and using SDL_NOFRAME to make sure
there's no window furniture. As the top panel is the only thing taking
up space, once it's unmapped and the titlebar / resizable bits are gone
the 800x480 skin can be drawn over the whole screen without entering
fullscreen mode. For whatever reason, this means that the screensaver
still activates - it even has a rather nice fade to black.

One thing puzzles me. Why does the code for jive_surface.c contain
SDL_RESIZABLE flags, seeing as the skin isn't resizable? It's taken me
so long to get this far that I'm not going to recompile for the answer
right now, but just wanted to mention it. There's probably a very good
reason I'm not seeing.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Squeezeplay does not play WMA streams

2010-02-24 Thread bpa

That is right - for licensing reasons there is no WMA decoder built into
the desktop Squeezeplay.

If your SBS is on Windows - SBS should handle transcoding.

If your SBS is on Linux or OSX - you can make SBS transcoding by
installing mplayer and the playWMA plugin.

You may have processor problems on a Sheevaplug.

I did the same thing and got that latest Squeezeplay 7.5 from the SVN
trunk working just fine with audio playback on Ubuntu 9.10. The only
thing I notice is that other sound apps that use PortAudio can get
blocked out by use of Squeezeplay and vice versa. It just depends who
grabs the audio device first. It's a pity that there is no PulseAudio
back-end to PortAudio.

Unfortunately, following the instructions in the link I provided above
breaks other sounds on ubuntu 9.10 - squeezeplay works fine but not much
else does! YMMV

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] SqueezePlay 7.5 binary for x86 Linux

2010-01-21 Thread kelvinelk

Hi,

I too had the issue:
ALSA lib conf.c:2700snd_config_hooks_call) Cannot open shared library
libasound_module_conf_pulse.so
ALSA lib pcm.c:2211snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM default
20091123 00:25:35.731 ERROR audio.output - decode_alsa_fork:180
jive_alsa failed to start

I followed the instructions on the following page, to compile the
latest alsa, and other associated goodies and now the squeezeplay debian
package I created is working flawlessly on ubuntu 9.10

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=6589810

So it appears the problem is with ubuntu implementation of alsa and
it's plugins etc?

Its 9.10 32 bit ubuntu server and has alsa not pluseaudio - so this
explains the difference...

Standard error:

Code:

ALSA lib conf.c:2700:(snd_config_hooks_call) Cannot open shared library
libasound_module_conf_pulse.so
ALSA lib pcm.c:2211:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM default

failed to start

'ldconfig -p' finds libasound_module_conf_pulse.so just fine, and if I
try to force libasound_module_conf_pulse.so to load with LD_PRELOAD I
get

Code:

./jive: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libsndfile.so.1: undefined symbol:
FLAC__StreamEncoderInitStatusString

and that function is declared in the flac-1.2.1 source from Logitech.

I've applied Kevin Kofler's PulseAudio patch to the portaudio code from
Logitech, still no sound in 9.10.

Yes, I tried both the generic pa snapshot and the v19 snapshot, no luck
(on ubuntu 9.10, anyway). Fortunately I personally don't really need
audio to work.

Have you tried updating the portaudio library source directory to a
newer snapshot?

Pulse audio support was added via Kevin Kofler's non-mmap patch at
r1412.

I have the same problem and have had it for a while, I'm using Ubuntu
9.04.
I posted about it in the following thread, is it the same behaviour you
are seeing ?

This was a while ago, so the behavior might be different now.
