[Bf-committers] Need some help in building the soc-2011-garlic branch

2011-08-15 Thread xiangquan xiao
svn path:
https://svn.blender.org/svnroot/bf-blender/branches/soc-2011-garlic

Hi,
I have been developing it with ubuntu+cmake all the way. As the GSoC's
"Pencil down" comes,
I need to confirm it works well with cmake and scons, as well as all
platforms.

===
What I have done to building rules:
1. /source/blender/editors/*/CMakelists.txt
/source/blender/editors/*/SConstruct:
add ../../blenfont to inc path.

2. move /release/bin/.blender/fonts to DATAFILES/fonts when installing.
/SConstruct:
if 'locale' in dp:--> if 'locale' in dp or 'fonts' in dp:
/source/creator/CMakeLists.txt:
install(
DIRECTORY
${CMAKE_SOURCE_DIR}/release/bin/.blender/fonts
${CMAKE_SOURCE_DIR}/release/bin/.blender/locale
DESTINATION ${TARGETDIR_VER}/datafiles
PATTERN ".svn" EXCLUDE
)
===
As you can see, these modifications seem just fine. But only linux+cmake
works well for me.

linux+scons: compile error, cannot find buildinfo.c and creator.c
windows(MSVC 2010 Express)+scons: link error when generate the final
blender.exe, a lot of LNK2001 errors(unresolved external symbols)
windows(MSVC 2010 Express)+cmake: compile well, but can only run in release
mode, badly. Screen shot attachmented. And got error when build PACKAGE:
CPack error : CPACK_PACKAGE_EXECUTABLES should contain pairs of
and

=
I don't know whether these are inherited from trunk, or my error code /
environment.
So I need some help to address the problems, as well as test on MAC and BSD.
You can checkout the code and build. Email feedback and patches are very
welcomed.
Thanks very much!

Regards!

Thank all!
I ever thought I had subscribed this list. But negligently I hadn't.
I've read all replies in the list archive. It helps a lot. I'll fix the bugs
finded. Thanks again!

Re: [Bf-committers] [Soc-2011-dev] Final Report - Garlic Branch

2011-08-27 Thread xiangquan xiao
Sorry I'm late for this disscussion. Just flied back to Beijing today, for
the new semester.

Actually, compiling and linking .mo is not a task for building. I ever
thought add building
commands like "make update_po", "make update_mo" as some other applications
do.
But finally, for simplicity I just put some update_XXX.py scripts under /po
to do these works.
Related doc:
http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/User:Xiaoxiangquan/GoogleSummerOfCode/2011/Internationalization/notes_for_translators
Section:update PO & update MO

About msvc+scons, I failed to build with this environment.
The only rule added by Garlic is coping the unifont.ttf.gz to
[datafiles]/fonts/ when "make install".
Maybe you can help fix it if there is any bug on this. In my tests, msvc+cmake
will do it correctly.

The worst thing is that as far as I know no one has run Garlic successfully
under windows. Dingto
also failed at the last link stage. Now I'm asking jesterkin for help on
this. So I'm very sorry that
I haven't any idea about the windows locale issules, yet.

2011-08-29 Thread xiangquan xiao
Actually I don't know much about Windows's locale setting. So the wiki is
really too short.

On linux, I tested that only when locale is set, and sometimes even set LANG
and LANGUAGE,
the GNU gettext will work.
http://www.gnu.org/software/gettext/FAQ.html#integrating_howto

In my test, it just changes locale temporarily and locally for itself.

2011-08-30 Thread xiangquan xiao
One of the problem may be locale names. See
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/x99tb11d(v=vs.80).aspx
We set "en_US" for linux, while should set "english" for Windows.

Keep on debuging.

2011-08-31 Thread xiangquan xiao
I did the same change to bf_lang.c, too. But as you said, still couldn't
work.

Then according to
http://www.gnu.org/software/gettext/FAQ.html#windows_setenv
 <http://www.gnu.org/software/gettext/FAQ.html#windows_setenv>I wrote a bat:
set LANG=zh_CN
blender.exe

It works! I have committed some related fix. You can have a try.
The _envset("LANG","zh_CN") call seems successful, but I still need to set
it before
running Blender. That's very strange. I also tested call system("set
LANG=zh_CN"), failed again.

After all, we can make Garlic work on windows now. If you or jesterKing have
some time, pls
make a windows build for me. I'd like to share it with BlenderCN eagerly. I
have got errors on
"make PACKAGE" all the time. (:

Re: [Bf-committers] [Soc-2011-dev] Final Report - Garlic Branch

2011-09-01 Thread xiangquan xiao
The situation that we must execute a "set LANG=ko_KR" is exactly the one
described here[1]<http://www.gnu.org/software/gettext/FAQ.html#windows_setenv>
.
I followed the steps but still no improvement:

- using -MD when compiling blenlib, where _putenv() is called.
- using SetEnvironmentVariableA, but actually Win7 hasn't this API.

Maybe you can give it a try in case I miss something.

[Bf-committers] Garlic issues before merging

2011-09-04 Thread xiangquan xiao
1. Cannot set LANG in the environment variable properly. Before running
blender.exe users should execute a command like:
set LANG=zh_CN
This situation has been described in Gettext
FAQ.
But nothing change though I followed the suggested steps.

2. To reply the meeting notes, I didn't test the Win64 build. But my Win64
runs a Win32 build well.

3. According to Ton, we may remove the environment variable related
operations. That's absolutely better, and the issue-1 will disappear.

4. Users cannot select font from the system. so anther font selection button
can be added after the language selection button.

5. In wm_init_exit.c, The call to WM_read_homefile() has been splited as
WM_read_homefile() and WM_read_homefile_proc(), between which we call
BLF_lang_set() to init language setting.

Because we should read the user preference file to init language setting,
which WM_read_homefile_proc has some operations that need the language
setting has been initialed.

But today I heard from Ton that we have system-wide refresh all notifier for
these cases. So this design can be abandoned.

I‘ll be always on line at night, at least 14:00-17:00 UTC.

Re: [Bf-committers] [Soc-2011-dev] Final Report - Garlic Branch

2011-09-05 Thread xiangquan xiao
Hi, I've fixed the problem of setting environment. Pls remove the previous
windows builds of garlic if possible, as most people actually don't know how
to run it well.

And if you still have the workspace, maybe you can build a new version for
me. Or just keep the users waiting for 2.60.

Thanks! :)

[Bf-committers] Fixed garlic's setenv problem on windows

2011-09-05 Thread xiangquan xiao
Just use gettext_putenv() instead of BLI_setenv().
Now running blender.exe could change languages freely.

But it's strange I got errors below on linux when opening the User
Preference:

X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 155 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 11 (X_GLXSwapBuffers)
Serial number of failed request: 5414
Current serial number in output stream: 5415

Maybe it's just my system's fault I think.

About the instant-update of language, we have discussed on IRC. We thought
the existing notifier cannot change language instantly because the string
pointers should change. e.g.
The old _("good") points to "好", while the new _("good") points to "Bonne"

So we think it OK to force users to restart, as language switch will happen
rarely.

Then if we cannot get rid of setenv, then so be it.

2011-09-06 Thread xiangquan xiao
To the partial translations, it's because most rna files still left
uncovered.

I updated the wiki of how to handle a rna source file:
http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/User:Xiaoxiangquan/GoogleSummerOfCode/2011/Internationalization/notes_for_developers#Special_Points_for_RNA

It's almost a pure physical work to cover all rna files, and it will
increase the string items' num sharply. You can find that the most useful
rnas have been covered, such as rna_scene.c and rna_object.c, while
rna_gpencil.c is partially covered.

Yes. And nowhere I have found it used when I started working on garlic.

These checks didn't exist before, but once I got segment fault there because
of NULL pointer. Then the checks was added, and errors gone.

It's right. I took a look at the "Battle of Wesnoth", which tries set locale
along with XXX, XXX.UTF-8, XXX.utf-8. So I wrote my code like this.

Yes.

I noticed that U.uistyles is a list of uistyles, but nowhere seems to choose
one based on users' setting. Only in
source/blender/editors/interface/interface.c
there is a line saying:
uiStyle style= *((uiStyle *)U.uistyles.first);// XXX pass on as arg
We just always use the first style.

In an early version I load unifont as a uistyle after the default one, and
use UI_GetStyle("Unifont") to get it if an utf8 language is in use. If only
Latin characters are used, unifont.ttf will not be loaded. This seems memory
saving.

Later I remove this feature, because the language-selection dialog always
needs utf8 fonts. The I just load unifont.ttf as the default uistyle, and
UI_GetStyle() only return the first uistyle as before.

Anyway, in my opinion, UI_GetStyle() is somewhere to get uistyle as users'
wish, especially after font-selection feature added. If so, another field
should also be added to the global UserDef.

In rna_XXX_gen.c, the properties are actually linked as lists. So I just
played a trick, maybe ugly.

Yes, we still need to do these:
1. read user def
2. init language setting
3. init some UI components
So 1 and 3 are splitted and 2 inserted.

then only tooltips translated.

[Bf-committers] How & When could we support right-to-left languages?

2011-09-15 Thread xiangquan xiao
After congcong made an advertisement about garlic in the blender-nations,
more and more volunteers come to contribute to the translation program.
However, Hebrew and Persian(Farsi) as well as Arabic are written from right
to left. We have disscussed this issue not long ago, but it seems a little more
urgent than I ever thought.

Is there somebody working for this? Or at least any plan?
I'd like to help on this, but I'm totally unfamiliar with these languages,
as well as the text rendering process :(

Re: [Bf-committers] i18 project pre-merge review

2011-09-19 Thread xiangquan xiao
I'll CC this to blender-translation list.

We have translation branches at
http://code.google.com/p/blender-translation/

I think we can set a limitation, e.g, one branch can be merged only if it
has completed at least 80% translations.

And the not-ready branches will not be a candidate in the release.

[Bf-committers] Fwd: "howto translate garlic ..." ( request for instructions )

I'll just cc to blender-translation list.

See http://code.google.com/p/blender-translation, there are some docs there.
And the working german translators will welcome you :)

Subject: [Bf-committers] "howto translate garlic ..." ( request for
instructions )
To: bf-blender developers

Hi.

I would like to spend some time on the german translation of Blender.
But the wiki page is a bit of a problem for me ;-( Maybe a very brief
step by step instruction could help more ? Here is what i do so far
hoping i am doing right (maybe someone can confirm that i work as i
should ...):

Prerequisites:

- I downloaded Blender from
  http://www.graphicall.org/582
- I downloaded the language branch from
  https://blender-translation.googlecode.com/svn/branches/
- I installed the windows version of poedit from
  http://sourceforge.net/projects/poedit/

Make the editing easier:

- I copied blender-translation\DE\de.po to
  garlic32\2.59\datafiles\locale\de\LC_MESSAGES\blender.po

Now poedit compiles the .mo right in place for Blender
Note: I have to frequently restart Blender. Changing the .mo while
blender is running seems to have evil consequences...

And now sme questions:

1.) When i am in doubt how to make a pyrticular translation, who can i ask ?
2.) When i have finished a part, what is the best way to give it back ?
2b.) Where do i get access permisisons to the repository ?
3.) When others also do changes on the same PO file, i probably have
to update frequently (svn update ... ) ?
4.) I do not exactly understand the comments about merging from other
branches...
When exactly do i have to do that ?
5.) When i see an already translated line of text which seems wrong to
me, how shall i proceed ?
6.) Do i have to create a comment for every change i do ?

thanks for any answer on this

I just cannot startup the program on win32. It crashed without any
infomation.

Someone has reported this in blender-translation actually. It seems fine for
me at that time, but now I got into the same situation.
Maybe we both lack something in our system?

[Bf-committers] About moving the blender-translation to blender.org?

2011-09-28 Thread xiangquan xiao
At the beginning I just wanted to manage Chinese PO at [1],
but later more and more guys came and started to work on their languages.
The repository is at [2], the tree is like
---/trunk: Just a copy of blender trunk's /po directory.
---/branches: Every running translation thread. They update themselves
according to the /trunk/blender.pot, and merge into trunk when most
translations done.

Now we think it's time for moving the program to the official location and
under official management. Right, Ton? I noticed that it has been in the
weekly meeting notes.

It must be an easy work. is a root member, he can
help on everything, I think.( I myself is on a two weeks' vacation,
traveling around the country ^_^ )

Yes,you are right. strings are some kind of "dynamic" because source code
always changes. So we try to make the pot up to date.

Ehh, I think the msgmerge command will always format the PO when executed,
such as sorting and remove "useless" labels ( in its eyes ).
I don't know if there is a way to forbid this :(

Re: [Bf-committers] [Bf-blender-cvs] SVN commit: /data/svn/bf-blender [40931] trunk/blender/po: update PO after cleaning POTFILE.in

2011-10-11 Thread xiangquan xiao
It's the update_msg.py who scans all rna_XXX.c and collects them.
Actually there is no need to fill language_items[ ]'s last field (the
description field). I added them only to tell developers what locale will be
set.

You are right! POTFILE.in still needs to be deeply cleaned.

Re: [Bf-committers] gsoc 2012

2012-03-02 Thread xiangquan xiao
I'm going to apply for a BGE project this year, as I have made my mind to
be a game developer :)
The "install on portable device" looks interesting. I knew the Game
Editor[1] is "Write once, run anywhere".
I wondered what's the potential device? ipad/iphone/Android?
