Hi:

I find that Google usually opens on the edit box, but if it doesn't just
hitting the letter e should get you there. Hope that helps.

Hi,
That's a Jaws issue, sometimes it opens in the right place, sometimes not,
you could probably set up a place marker permanently and have JFw move to
that spot when it sees the Google.com domain.

Do a google search for Webvisum, it takes a bit to get registered with email
verification and well, there are a few hoops to jump through but when it
works, it's sweet.

Hi John,

I have just installed Firefox for the first time and I am using Google as my
Home Page. When I open Firefox/Google home page, how do I get it to open on
the edit field so I only have to press enter to open the edit box to type in
a search term? I am running XP Home & Jaws 10 latest. Also where can I
download that web visum captia thing? The website that was posted earlier
doesn't work? I am currently having to arrow around until I find an edit
box before I can type in a search term. All advice will be greatly
appreciated. Thanks much, take care.

Hi,
Yes the need to actually learn a browser in this case is truly a myth.
The only real difference you'll see is that you use control L to open a
location in stead of Control plus O in IE.
But once you get used to it, the Control plus L keystroke works in IE as
well.
The page loads with Firefox and Jaws are much faster too.

You can't have it both ways. Webvisum only works with Firefox, so if you
want the ability to solve image captias without sighted help, this is the
only way to go. Firefox is not drastically different from IE, so you can
use it right away withot having to learn a lot of new keystrokes. I use IE
as my default browser, but rely on Firefox with Webvisum whenever I
encounter one of those nasty captias. And don't count on FS to include an
image captia feature in JAWS anytime soon.

Hi, greetings.

I've been for the last three hours, trying to install my legal copy of roxio
media creator 10. each time I would try, I get an error message that would
only tell me that setup has been interrupted! Nothing else! Its s
annoying! Anyone had any experiences like this? When I was installing the
software for my hp office jet j5500 all-in-one, I had a similar issue, but I
tried shutting off jaws for a while during the install process, and that did
the trick. No luck this time though?!!!

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated, whether or not it works.
Anything is worth a try at this time! This is expensive software!

Many thanks.

bugs. For example, the page woulnd't appear to be accurate with the main
Twitter. We added each other and, for a time Hannah couldn't see anyone, nor
could she see any tweeps, yet when I looked there were.

Hello all,
Hannah's interested in joining Twitter. What client could she use as an
incompetent JAWS user? I'd suggest Mctwit but it doesn't work well under
Vista I've found, and Outtwit may be complex as she's not used toolbars in
Office before and as I can't help her remotely I'm afraid she may get lost.
Same with Jawter. All help would be greatly apreciated.

Hi Patricia,
I won't say that is perfect by any means,
but I have used it on numerous occasions, for software installations,

For me, this is the best addition to Jaws since version 3.7.

 Hi all,
ok here is my scenario and questions:
I am using xp home and jaws 9 on my pc. I have a friend (sighted) who
 also
uses xp, of course no jaws.
So I wanted to help her with some computer issues and thought the
 easiest
way, would be to just take control of her pc and fix it.
She is a pc newbie so she said no problem, that she appreciate if I
 would
try. Anyway, what do I need to install on her pc to make this work.
 Does
 she
have to have at least a demo version of jaws on there, for me to be
 able
 to
work on her computer, or will my jaws here be sufficient? Would I be
 able to
get feedback from my jaws when I work inside her computer?
I know there is other software than windows own remote desktop such as
 team
viewer but I am not sure how that would work with a screenreader. Also
 how
accesible is remote desktop, to set up and everything?
Thanks in advance for any hints and tips

either from an existing Webvisum member or by contacting Webvisum directly
and requesting one. I'll be happy to send you an invitation code if you
  contact me off-list.

It sounds like remote control is rather difficult.
If you live close enough, wouldn't it be easier to simply install JAWS
and use it in demo mode for short periods as you work out the issues?

Here are a couple things to look at.
In the net work properties, have you checked "File and printer sharing?"
Then, on the computer attached to the printer you want to use, go to
printers in control panel,
and from the applications menu, choose sharing. You will need to give
permission to share this computer over the network.

In the net work properties, have you checked "File and printer sharing?"
Then, on the computer attached to the printer you want to use, go to
printers in control panel,
and from the applications menu, choose sharing. You will need to give
permission to share this computer over the network.

[Blind-Computing] File and Printer Sharing

2009-05-11 Thread Dan Kerstetter
Hello all,

I'm new to the list and have a question or two.

I'm trying to network two XP home computers together. One is the main
computer connected to my router and to the internet. The second is a
machine using a wireless adaptor card.

I've run the network setup wizard on both machines. From my main machine, I
can see the other machine, but I can't access it through my network places.
On the second machine, when I enter on the name of the network I'm denied
access. All the messages speak of not having administrative rights to
another computer.

I think I've really missed a step here. I would appreciate any help from
anyone on the list.

Thanks.

Dan

And remember the control L command is used in Winamp as well. So there's not
much to learn or get accustomed to any way.

Hi,
Yes the need to actually learn a browser in this case is truly a myth.

I use
IE

as my default browser, but rely on Firefox with Webvisum whenever I
encounter one of those nasty captias. And don't count on FS to include an
image captia feature in JAWS anytime soon.

You need to install Mozilla's browser (FireFox).
 www.mozilla.com
Then go to www.webvisum and install this Add On.
Simple as this, webvisum will read the capcha for you.
Then you can sign up and either ditch FireFox and go back to IE, or keep
using FireFox. Completely up to you.

If you live close enough, wouldn't it be easier to simply install JAWS

[Blind-Computing] Windows Mail Restore

2009-05-11 Thread Donald Marang
Thank God I finally performed a full backup procedure last month! I had been
negligent for years.

Last night, around 11 pm, for no apparent reason, my computer decided that it
did not want to restart! The screen blinked the Dell logo several times, then
a crude almost DOS type screen appeared with fairly large letters and a few
buttons. I stared at it for probably 15 minutes. I still could not make out
what it said. My daughter was late getting to bed and I quickly asked her to
read the screen. I think it said that the disk was damaged and asked if I
wanted to Restore, Repair, or Cancel. I had her try Repair. It fairly quickly
responded that a repair was impossible!

I have not worked out the details yet for complete speech during a restore with
Image for Linux. But I did have a CD with the standard Image for Linux handy,
I had her pop it in, attached the external, USB powered hard drive and guided
her through the menus. I only delayed her bedtime by no more than 10 minutes!
We both went to bed.

This morning, I asked her if it was successful. She said that it was and I
ejected the CD and restarted. My computer was back exactly the way it was
three weeks ago when I made the image! I then went to my network folder and
located my nightly backups of my Documents, emails, JAWS settings directory and
another Shared Data folder. By 9:00 am, All was recovered perfectly, except
email (more on that later). Just in time! Over the weekend, my wife opened a
letter from Lockheed, where I used to work, that our Medical Insurance was
canceled due to nonpayment. I was shocked since I paid them all through a
on-line service with my bank and they had cashed all of the checks! Anyway, I
needed my computer first thing today desperately! With Image for Windows and
Karen's Replicator that was no problem!

Now for the question. Restoring the Image returned the state of my Windows
Mail to what it was April 17, when I created the Image. I have been using
Karen's Replicator to backup my Windows Mail "Local Folder" and its subfolders
at:
"C:\Users\Don\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Local Folders"
to another computer. I deleted the "Local Folder" today on my restored
computer and copied the backup folder to replace it. Obviously this is not the
completely correct method to restore Windows Mail. Everything was restored
correctly that was older than April 17. Old messages that I had read and kept
in the same folder, like blind-computing were present, but marked unread. Any
messages I had saved and moved to another folder are not present. I think all
of my messages are still on the other computer. A few questions:
1. What should I be backing up every night for Windows Mail? Should I backup
one folder higher, like the "Windows Mail" folder?
2. Is there any other procedure I should follow to have Windows Mail recognize
the updated, restored folders?
3. Is there a way at this point to find individual message files in the backup
and import them into Windows Mail again?

By the way, yesterday I was creating a webpage to distribute status, scripts
and such for various projects just hours before the crash! I mentioned that I
have still not completed a CD or USB drive a speech during a Image restore and
made a comment that I hope that I get it to work before I need it! I guess I
better watch my comments, even though no one has probably seen those pages yet!

bugs. For example, the page woulnd't appear to be accurate with the main
Twitter. We added each other and, for a time Hannah couldn't see anyone, nor
could she see any tweeps, yet when I looked there were.

Hello all,
Hannah's interested in joining Twitter. What client could she use as an

Vista I've found, and Outtwit may be complex as she's not used toolbars in

You need to install Mozilla's browser (FireFox).
  www.mozilla.com
Then go to www.webvisum and install this Add On.
Simple as this, webvisum will read the capcha for you.
Then you can sign up and either ditch FireFox and go back to IE, or keep
using FireFox. Completely up to you.

I've been for the last three hours, trying to install my legal copy of roxio

only tell me that setup has been interrupted!

As far as jaws goes, you need JAWS 10. The machine you are working on also
needs jaws 10.

You would be using jaws tandum.
I've never used it personally, nor know about any 3rd party applications

Hi all,
ok here is my scenario and questions:
I am using xp home and jaws 9 on my pc. I have a friend (sighted) who
also

uses xp, of course no jaws.
So I wanted to help her with some computer issues and thought the easiest
way, would be to just take control of her pc and fix it.
She is a pc newbie so she said no problem, that she appreciate if I would
try. Anyway, what do I need to install on her pc to make this work. Does
she
have to have at least a demo version of jaws on there, for me to be able
to
work on her computer, or will my jaws here be sufficient? Would I be able
to

get feedback from my jaws when I work inside her computer?
I know there is other software than windows own remote desktop such as
team
viewer but I am not sure how that would work with a screenreader. Also
how

accesible is remote desktop, to set up and everything?
Thanks in advance for any hints and tips

chrissy

As far as jaws goes, you need JAWS 10. The machine you are working on also
needs jaws 10.
You would be using jaws tandum.
I've never used it personally, nor know about any 3rd party applications to
remote control another PC.
I would be interested to see others views on this.

I have an archive but don't have the password.

I guess it's a long shot to recover it.

[Blind-Computing] Backing Up Documents and Settings Folder

2009-05-11 Thread Gerald Levy

Greetings, listers. I just purchased an 8gb Crucial Gizmo flash drive mainly
to back up my Documents and Settings folder. First, using the Windows Backup
utility, I created a copy of my Documents and Settings folder and saved it on
my C drive in My Documents. This newly created folder was supposedly 6.6gb in
size according to its Properties page. Next I copied it to the clipboard. But
when I tried to paste it into my new flash drive, a message immediately popped
up prompting me to insert a new volume because the flash drive was full.
Hitting Retry, another message alerted me that my flash drive did not have
enough capacity to hold the file I was trying to paste. I don't understand
what's going on. My flash drive contains 7.5gb of available free space , so it
should certainly be able to hold a 6.6gb file. Is it possible that this file
is really bigger than 6.6gb? How can I determine the actual size if the figure
on the Properties page is inaccurate? Or perhaps the amount of free space on
my flash drive is being overstated? In any case, is there any way to back up
my Documents and Settings folder onto this flash drive? Or will I have to bite
the bullet and ante up for a larger flash drive or external hard drive? Any
ideas? BTW, I was able to successfully copy and paste a smaller 2gb file to the
flash drive, so I know it's not defective. I'm running XP Pro, if that makes
any difference. Thanks.

Re: [Blind-Computing] microsoft text to speech

2009-05-11 Thread David Griffith
I cannot swear to this but I have a suspicion that the core components of
the Microsoft Sapi 5 engine may be necessary for some non Microsoft Sapi 5
voices to work.

I think that in the past when installing some voices they have required the
Microsoft TTS to be in place. So I am not sure that the Microsoft TTS is
actually optional if you want Sapi 5.

It is generally built into the microsoft narrator that OSes like XP have,
and it also provides voices etc. for some other apps.

The simplest way to check it out is to go to programs, accessories,
accessibility, narrator, or hit the windows key + U key combo to
automatically start it.

I honestly just use it as a form of final backup if other things go wrong,
or else games like kitchensincs use it's voices for game play etc.

Go to the page for free windows SAPI 5 TTS games.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Firefox question

2009-05-11 Thread David Griffith
I switch often between IE and FireFox. In fact I only really use fireFox to
access inaccessible capture.
The easiest way to switch between IE and Mozilla Firefox is to '

1. Whilst in IE Press F6 to go to the address bar.
2 , Press Control C to copy the contents of the address bar.
3. Open Fire Fox and press F6 again to go to the address bar here.
4. Press control v to paste the address from your IE page and press enter.

The page you were on in IE will then open in FireFox as well.
The downside with switching between IE and FireFox is that they tend to quiz
you as to whether you want them to be the default browser all the time but
you can set this check to off in preferences.

Hi,
That's a Jaws issue, sometimes it opens in the right place, sometimes not,
you could probably set up a place marker permanently and have JFw move to
that spot when it sees the Google.com domain.

Do a google search for Webvisum, it takes a bit to get registered with email
verification and well, there are a few hoops to jump through but when it
works, it's sweet.

Hi,
Yes the need to actually learn a browser in this case is truly a myth.
