Hello there;

maybe, you could try;

1, going into system tray,

2, enter on the volume icon,

3, select play back devices, and enter,

4, perhaps there's a set default button?

   Hi all,
I made a problem a little while ago and can't solve it. It really makes
me ill! Anyway, I have realteck hdd audio network soundcar on my toshiba
laptop. And whenever I plug a headphones or spekaers in, I get the pop up
dialog in which I can set what device I connected. Everything went ok till
in that dialog (which is not so accessible) I found a combo box with the
sund environment. I experimented but there is the none option in the combo
box that I activated and none of the effect were loaded. But anot
her combo box, rock combo box, doesn't have the option to disable all
effects so from the moment I moved to an option with an arrow I am getting
strange output sound from the spekers So how to set it back to be able to
hear normal sound from my speakers?

hello there;

are you making sure that you highlight the particular device you want to
reset to default?

if you have, speakers, plus, headphone, jaws says speakers for both, so, you
can route pc to jaws, to read.
most likely, your headphones are the second one, highlight then tab set to
default.

Hi John,

When there is a thread of messages pertaining to the same subject line,
original messages + all replies,to save you the time of having to arrow
through all of the messages, if you have messages grouped by conversation
this setting will collapse all the messages in each thread so all you will
see is the first one in the thread and you can arrow past a whole group of
messages at 1 time. If there is a particular thread that interests you,
you

would press the right arrow key to expand the message group and expanding
will show all the messages in this particular thread.

To change this setting follow the steps below.
1. Press Alt + V for the view menu, but not in an an open message.
2. Press enter on current view or press the letter V.
3. Arrow up to group messages by conversation and if this box is
checked

press enter to uncheck this box and take you out of the menues.

I hope I haven't confuse the hell out of you! LOL Take care.

Hello group. I need help with Outlook Express.
I'm using Windows XP Professional and Internet Explorer Version 8. I'm
running an HP 550 notebook with Jaws 10 at the latest update.

This thing is driving me crazy so I'll bet I'm missing something simple
and stupid. That's usually the way. I am getting this very annoying
message when I access e-mail. Outlook Express keeps saying EXPANDED
every time I hit some, but not all , new messages. Is there a way to turn
that thing off? Personally, I don't care whether the messages are or are
not expanded as long as I can read them. Reading messages doesn't seem to
be a problem. What does the term EXPANDED or COLLAPSED mean in lay
terms, anyway?

Rick,

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll check them out.

BTW, I tried using the free web hosting offered by Microsoft on the

to create a descent web page using JAWS. I've also tried creating some web
pages on GoogleGroups with somewhat more success, but it isn't always

Hi Pete,
There are some html editors on both:

for creating web pages, or you can use Microsoft Word as I do, if it is

Word does carry a lot of overhead, but for a text site as I have,
it doesn't cause the site to load any slower than a site written in an html
editor,
not to mention I don't have to learn html code, or learn to use another

There are some sites where you can get free web-hosting, but they come with
strings attached.
Better to part with about $5 a month, and be free of those annoyances.

Rick, you mentioned web hosting for $ 5 a month. Where do you get that?
I think I was paying about $ 8 plus about $ 10 for the web site name. It was

Hi Doug,
Just compact the folders manually, here's how:
Go to the file menu, and then to the folders sub-menu,
and press enter on compact all folders.
You are done
That message will pop-up every 100 times you open Outlook Express.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Speakers and soundcard question

2009-10-17 Thread Milos Przic

  Hi Lino,
I did it, but it was not the problem. Finally I did the system restore
and the sound is normal again. In the environment combo box it is not the
problem, but the problem is the rock combo box. It is set to pop but if
you move down and go again to pop, it doesn't work... anyway thanks, now
everything is ok.

  Hi all,
I made a problem a little while ago and can't solve it.
I experimented but there is the none option in the
combo

box that I activated and none of the effect were loaded. But another combo
box, rock combo box, doesn't have the option to disable all effects so
from the moment I moved to an option with an arrow I am getting strange
output sound from the spekers So how to set it back to be able to hear
normal sound from my speakers?

[Blind-Computing] Windows Vista Settings Dealing With Lists

2009-10-17 Thread Mauricio Molina
Hello To All;

I am assisting a relatively new screen reader/computer user via the phone. He
is running Vista 64 bit on a Dell laptop. What I hear while on the desktop or
in any other list is the name of the list item followed by the statement
Checked or Not Checked. For instance, while using the arrow keys through
the desktop icons, it says Recycle bin not checked; WordPerfect Checked; and so
on. I have Vista myself and will search through the settings, but if anyone
here knows the answer I would appreciate it. I attempted to Google this
inquiry but the search terms used yielded no answer. Sure there was just about
every other possible answer for problems not our own provided by Google, but no
luck locating the info I sought.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Windows Vista Settings Dealing With Lists

2009-10-17 Thread Stumpy

I think the following will fix your problem...

Go to control panel
Next, go to folder options
Then go to view tab
Tab to files and folders
right arrow to open tree view
arrow down to use check boxes to select items - select off
Tab to okay and hit enter

That will get rid of those checkboxes after things on the desktop, I think
that is what you are trying to do, if I understood your question correctly.

   Good luck,

   Scott

 Hi Pete,
There are some html editors on both:
 www.blind-computing.com
 and
 www.jaws-users.com
for creating web pages, or you can use Microsoft Word as I do, if it is
 available to you.
Word does carry a lot of overhead, but for a text site as I have,
it doesn't cause the site to load any slower than a site written in an
 html
 editor,
not to mention I don't have to learn html code, or learn to use another
 application.
There are some sites where you can get free web-hosting, but they come
 with
 strings attached.
Better to part with about $5 a month, and be free of those annoyances.

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll check them out.

BTW, I tried using the free web hosting offered by Microsoft on the
Microsoft OfficeLive web site, but it is very difficult (if not
 impossible)
to create a descent web page using JAWS. I've also tried creating some
 web
pages on GoogleGroups with somewhat more success, but it isn't always
straightforward. Guess it's time to try a paid hosting service!

Re: [Blind-Computing] Question for Rick Justice about CDEX

2009-10-17 Thread David Griffith
I think you should go back to the blind computing page on CdEx and listen to
the wealth of tutorials and advice given there on using this program.

It does take a little concentration to set up, mainly in determining that
you want it to insert track names automatically from the internet database,
and specifying where you want your tracks saved. At the moment I suspect
they are being saved in the CDEx programs folder.
Once set up though CDEx is incredibly easy to use. Basically you insert your
CD, wait for the track names to be inserted for you, and then press the F9
key to start the ripping of your cd. That's it really.

I think the blind computing page is

[Blind-Computing] networking 2 computers with a wireless router

2009-10-17 Thread DoubleLegal
Hello everyone,

I can't seem to figure out how to network 2 computers together using a wireless
router.

Before, when I networked them through a hard-wired router, it was simple. I
just plugged both into the router, went through the My Network Places setup
wizard, and was able to let the second computer see my shared documents and
print to the printer I had connected to my main computer. I tried to do the
same thing with the wireless setup wizard, but I couldn't find the steps to set
anything up like I did in the regular network setup wizard. The second computer
doesn't see the printer or the main computer.

The main computer is hooked directly into the router, the other computer that
is hooked up wirelessly can't see my shared folder or the printer. I can't see
the wirelessly connected computer either. I also have a 1 terabyte external
drive hooked up to my main computer. I'd like to let the second computer see
that also. I can see it just fine in My Network Places on my desktop so I
figure I got that setup correctly.

I think the following will fix your problem...

Go to control panel
Next, go to folder options
Then go to view tab
Tab to files and folders
right arrow to open tree view
arrow down to use check boxes to select items - select off
Tab to okay and hit enter

That will get rid of those checkboxes after things on the desktop, I think
that is what you are trying to do, if I understood your question

Hello everyone,

I can't seem to figure out how to network 2 computers together using a
wireless router.

Before, when I networked them through a hard-wired router, it was simple.
I just plugged both into the router, went through the My Network Places
setup wizard, and was able to let the second computer see my shared
documents and print to the printer I had connected to my main computer. I
tried to do the same thing with the wireless setup wizard, but I couldn't
find the steps to set anything up like I did in the regular network setup
wizard. The second computer doesn't see the printer or the main computer.

The main computer is hooked directly into the router, the other computer
that is hooked up wirelessly can't see my shared folder or the printer. I
can't see the wirelessly connected computer either. I also have a 1 terabyte
external drive hooked up to my main computer. I'd like to let the second
computer see that also. I can see it just fine in My Network Places on my
desktop so I figure I got that setup correctly.

Both computers are running XP.

Please help as the second computer is used by my wife in another room and

[Blind-Computing] 2 Out look Express problems

2009-10-17 Thread The Cluless Wanderer
Hi Friends,
I'm using Windows XP Pro, Out Look Express 6 Jaws 10.0.1154.
The first problem I'm having is about 50% of the time when I send a message the
message says:
send as Unicode,
I then tab once and get:
send as is,
If I continue to tab, it goes between those two choices until I send the
message, and then the page goes blank and I have to alt tab back into the inbox
window. How can I fix this?
The second problem is that quite often when composing a message that I have
copied and pasted into a new message I hear the word:
cell
and just as often in that kind of message it combines all the words into one
line. I tried to paste the message into a word document and heard some thing
about a table, which leads me to believe that some how the message is in some
kind of table. Is there a way to stop Out Look Express from recognizing tables
in a message, but not to affect a table that is being sent by attachment in a
word document? If I send the message that is reading, cell, to myself it reads
without saying the word cell, but the word cell, reappears if I copy and paste
it into a new message. Any help in solving these problems would be greatly
appreciated.

Re: [Blind-Computing] 2 Out look Express problems

2009-10-17 Thread Mike Barbara
Hi Brian,

You need to use an Email cleaning program to clean up all of the HTML crap
that comes with information copied from a website page. The overview
download link of Email Stripper, an Email cleaning program,, is below.
emailStripper is a free program for cleaning the and other formatting
characters out of your emails. It will restore forwarded or replied
emails

back to their original state so they're easier to read.

It's simple to use, and best of all it's FREE!

http://www.blind-computing.com/e_mail/programs/emailstripper-installer.exe

The reason you get Jaws saying cell is because of the HTML language.
Also, below are the steps on how to use Email Stripper.

1. Open the Email and press control + F to forward it.

2. Enter to whom you are sending the Email to.

3. Tab to the subject line and press the home/7 key to take the cursor to
the beginning of the line

4. Press the delete key to remove any FW: stuff that is in front of the
message title.

5. Tab to the edit field.

6. Press the control + A keys to select the whole message. Now , press
control + C to copy the whole message to the clipboard.

7. Open the Email Stripper program.

8. Tab 1 time, Jaws will say paste. Press the space bar to paste the
message into the Email Stripper program.

9. Shift tab 1 time, Jaws will say strip it. Press the space bar to strip
the Email of the computer language crap.

10. Shift tab 1 time, Jaws will say edit. Now you will clean the Email of
the rest of the crap.

11. Press control +home/7 keys to take the cursor to the top of the page.

12. Arrow down to the first line of the message and arro up once to give
yourself some space if possible.

13. Press the home/7 key to take the cursor to the beginning of the line.

14. Press the control + home/7 keys to select from the cursor to the top of
the page and press the delete key to clean the top of the message.

15. Press the control + end/1 keys to take the cursor to the bottom of the
page.

16. Arrow up to the last line of the message and arro down once or twice to
give yourself a little room.

17. Press the home/7 key to take the cursor to the beginning of the line.

18. Press control, shift, + end/1 keys to select the text from there to the
bottom of the page and press the delete key to remove the crap at the bottom
of the message.

19. You can proofread the message if you like to make sure it is the way you
want it.

20. Shift tab and Jaws will say copy. Press space bar to copy the
message.

21. Press Alt + F4 to close the Email Stripper program after you have copied
the message.

22. You should be back to your original message. Now press control + A to
select everything here and press delete to erase that message because you
are going to put a new message in here.

23. Press the control + V keys to paste the message you had cleaned up
earlier using the Email Stripper program.

24. Now you can send as usual.

Brian, I know this sounds like a lot of steps but, after you get the hang of
it, it is really simple. Trust me. People will totally appreciate the fact
that you are sending them clean Emails. I am not quite sure that I have
answered all of your questions, but this much typing has quickened my visit
to Doctor's Phils couch! LOL I hope this helped to some degree. Take
care.

Re: [Blind-Computing] 2 Out look Express problems

2009-10-17 Thread Jacob Kruger
Pretty sure the first one is due to when you reply to a message in another
text encoding, it might reuse it, and on the format menu, there's a submenu
for encoding, and the top/default one should be alright.

Also, although my outlook express is set to generally use plain text, if I
reply to an HTML mail, it'll sometimes try use HTML as well, and for that
one, on the format menu, the two options for rich text and plain text seem
to be usable to turn this off, but I sometimes seem to have to alternate
between them to sort it out, so often enough, Alt + O, then R to turn on
rich text, and then Alt + O, and then X to enforce plain text formatting
will sort this out, and this won't affect attachments as such.
