Re: [Blind-Computing] networking 2 computers with a wireless router
Do you have, by any chance, MacAfee Internet security installed? This product is fairly notorious for fouling up attempts at home networking. I have had similar problems to the ones you describe and all these problems disappear as soon as you remove MacAfee. Products like Eset Smart Security are no problem at all with home networking apart from you needing to specify in my case with the Jaws cursor that I wanted to allow network folder sharing during setup. Using AVG Internet Security is slightly less straightforward. If you want safe home networking you need to run the setup wizard and select a profile called computer and domain. This is jargon to describe situations including home networking. You also need to then check after a system reboot that this option is selected as your profile. As far as I can see Avast requires no settings relevant to home networking and has been fine. The final thing is that if you do have MacAfee Internet Security it is a difficult beast to properly get rid of. My advice is to go to the Eset home page. >From there select Support On that page select uninstallers On that page there is a link to the latest MacAfee uninstall utility. It may not be your situation but I have personally have never known a PC in which it has been possible to successfully home network with MacAfee software installed. If anybody knows it would be great to hear as I still have an old laptop with MacAfee which is obstinately refusing to network. I have not got around to getting rid of the anti-virus software as I inherited it from an old job as a leaving present . As it is an old work machine there does at least appear updates for life on the protection which is outweighing the benefits of home networking. Re: [Blind-Computing] 2 Out look Express problems
Pretty sure the first one is due to when you reply to a message in another text encoding, it might reuse it, and on the format menu, there's a submenu for encoding, and the top/default one should be alright. Also, although my outlook express is set to generally use plain text, if I reply to an HTML mail, it'll sometimes try use HTML as well, and for that one, on the format menu, the two options for rich text and plain text seem to be usable to turn this off, but I sometimes seem to have to alternate between them to sort it out, so often enough, Alt + O, then R to turn on rich text, and then Alt + O, and then X to enforce plain text formatting will sort this out, and this won't affect attachments as such. Re: [Blind-Computing] 2 Out look Express problems
Hi Brian, You need to use an Email cleaning program to clean up all of the HTML crap that comes with information copied from a website page. The overview & download link of Email Stripper, an Email cleaning program,, is below. emailStripper is a free program for cleaning the ">" and other formatting characters out of your emails. It will restore "forwarded" or "replied" emails back to their original state so they're easier to read. It's simple to use, and best of all it's FREE! http://www.blind-computing.com/e_mail/programs/emailstripper-installer.exe The reason you get Jaws saying " cell " is because of the HTML language. Also, below are the steps on how to use Email Stripper. 1. Open the Email and press control + F to forward it. 2. Enter to whom you are sending the Email to. 3. Tab to the subject line and press the home/7 key to take the cursor to the beginning of the line 4. Press the delete key to remove any FW: stuff that is in front of the message title. 5. Tab to the edit field. 6. Press the control + A keys to select the whole message. Now , press control + C to copy the whole message to the clipboard. 7. Open the Email Stripper program. 8. Tab 1 time, Jaws will say "paste". Press the space bar to paste the message into the Email Stripper program. 9. Shift tab 1 time, Jaws will say "strip it". Press the space bar to strip the Email of the computer language crap. 10. Shift tab 1 time, Jaws will say "edit". Now you will clean the Email of the rest of the crap. 11. Press control +home/7 keys to take the cursor to the top of the page. 12. Arrow down to the first line of the message and arro up once to give yourself some space if possible. 13. Press the home/7 key to take the cursor to the beginning of the line. 14. Press the control + home/7 keys to select from the cursor to the top of the page and press the delete key to clean the top of the message. 15. Press the control + end/1 keys to take the cursor to the bottom of the page. 16. Arrow up to the last line of the message and arro down once or twice to give yourself a little room. 17. Press the home/7 key to take the cursor to the beginning of the line. 18. Press control, shift, + end/1 keys to select the text from there to the bottom of the page and press the delete key to remove the crap at the bottom of the message. 19. You can proofread the message if you like to make sure it is the way you want it. 20. Shift tab and Jaws will say "copy". Press space bar to copy the message. 21. Press Alt + F4 to close the Email Stripper program after you have copied the message. 22. You should be back to your original message. Now press control + A to select everything here and press delete to erase that message because you are going to put a new message in here. 23. Press the control + V keys to paste the message you had cleaned up earlier using the Email Stripper program. 24. Now you can send as usual. Brian, I know this sounds like a lot of steps but, after you get the hang of it, it is really simple. Trust me. People will totally appreciate the fact that you are sending them clean Emails. I am not quite sure that I have answered all of your questions, but this much typing has quickened my visit to Doctor's Phils couch! LOL I hope this helped to some degree. Take care. Re: [Blind-Computing] Question for Rick Justice about CDEX
I think you should go back to the blind computing page on CdEx and listen to the wealth of tutorials and advice given there on using this program. It does take a little concentration to set up, mainly in determining that you want it to insert track names automatically from the internet database, and specifying where you want your tracks saved. At the moment I suspect they are being saved in the CDEx programs folder. Once set up though CDEx is incredibly easy to use. Basically you insert your CD, wait for the track names to be inserted for you, and then press the F9 key to start the ripping of your cd. That's it really. I think the following will fix your problem... Go to control panel Next, go to folder options Then go to view tab Tab to "files and folders" right arrow to open tree view arrow down to "use check boxes to select items" - select off Tab to okay and hit enter That will get rid of those checkboxes after things on the desktop, I think that is what you are trying to do, if I understood your question correctly. John Justice - Original Message - From: "Mike & Barbara" To: Sent: Friday, October 16, 2009 8:15 PM Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] OUTLOOK EXPRESS, EXPANDED MESSAGE ANNOUNCEMENT Hi John, When there is a thread of messages pertaining to the same subject line, original messages + all replies,to save you the time of having to arrow through all of the messages, if you have messages grouped by conversation this setting will collapse all the messages in each thread so all you will see is the first one in the thread and you can arrow past a whole group of messages at 1 time. If there is a particular thread that interests you, you would press the right arrow key to expand the message group and expanding will show all the messages in this particular thread. To change this setting follow the steps below. 1. Press Alt + V for the view menu, but not in an an open message. 2. Press enter on current view or press the letter V. 3. Arrow up to " group messages by conversation " and if this box is checked press enter to uncheck this box and take you out of the menues. I hope I haven't confuse the hell out of you! LOL Take care. I need help with Outlook Express. I'm using Windows XP Professional and Internet Explorer Version 8. I'm running an HP 550 notebook with Jaws 10 at the latest update. This thing is driving me crazy so I'll bet I'm missing something simple and stupid. That's usually the way. I am getting this very annoying message when I access e-mail. Outlook Express keeps saying "EXPANDED" every time I hit some, but not all , new messages. Is there a way to turn that thing off? Personally, I don't care whether the messages are or are not expanded as long as I can read them. Reading messages doesn't seem to be a problem. What does the term "EXPANDED" or "COLLAPSED" mean in lay terms, anyway? John and Linda Justice with guide dogs Jake and Zachary Sent from my HP laptop computer. Hi Peter, You can easily create web pages with Jaws, regardless of the web-hosting service. And whenever I plug a headphones or spekaers in, I get the pop up dialog in which I can set what device I connected. Everything went ok till in that dialog (which is not so accessible) I found a combo box with the sund environment. I experimented but there is the "none" option in the combo box that I activated and none of the effect were loaded. But anot her combo box, "rock combo box", doesn't have the option to disable all effects so from the moment I moved to an option with an arrow I am getting strange output sound from the spekers So how to set it back to be able to hear normal sound from my speakers?
