Hi John,
All you need to do is purchase a blue-tooth USB adapter, and then pair it
with any blue-tooth headset.

The numbers come with the device to pair them.

Re: [Blind-Computing] guide

2010-08-24 Thread TJ McElroy gMail
Hello,

Guide is not a new program, it is however a new acquisition by Dolphin

The Veterans Affairs Blind rehabilitation centers and Visual Impaired Support
Team Coordinators (VISTC) have been issuing Guide for around the last three
years or so.

It was made by a company from England and first offered in the U.S. by the
company, Electronic Vision Access Solutions (EVAS).

http://www.guide-evas.com/

I am not sure what Dolphin is charging for Guide, but the V.A. was paying
around 750.00 per license.

Guide is a real good program for what it is meant for. Many older or disabled
Veterans do not want to learn how to use a computer, but they want to be able
to write and read email from their family and friends.

Guide provides access to email, internet access and word processing in a menu
type structure, very similar to the start menu in Windows XP.

Each menu option can be spoken and each option usually takes only one or two
choices to get to where you want to be such as composing email or reading email.

From a tech support point of view, Guide is a lot easier to support than
either ZoomText or Jaws. ZoomText is the magnifier of choice for V.A. supported
Veterans and Jaws is the screen reader of choice.

HTH,

TJ

Exactly. Unload NVDA, load Guide. When done quit Guide by following the
instructions then load NVDA. This is just an example.

I did go into the control panel and for the heck of it. I press enter

attached to it and apparently that must have worked?

Hi,

Apparently I did something stupid because I lost my windows system sounds.

For example, I do not hear the window startup or shutdown sound when
restarting or turning off my computer. Some other programs which uses
windows system sound are not playing either.

I checked the control panel and press enter to hear the sound and
everything appears to be in order. I can play my WAV and Mp3 files
with no problem.

I also went to the system folder, then to media folder and played the
various sounds without any problem.

I cannot figure out what to do from here. Any suggestion or guidance
will greatly be appreciated! You know the expression you don't miss
the water until the well runs dry? Well, you don't miss the windows
sounds until you don't hear it anymore! Please help!

Thanks. Take care,

Lennie

Re: [Blind-Computing] guide

2010-08-24 Thread chris hallsworth

Hi all,
Guide is not interested, nor does it care, on what screen reader is
running. I would however advise that you tell Guide not to place itself
at startup. This can be done during or after the installation process.
It is preferable to do it before. My other advice is to try and not use
a screen reader with Guide. Although it doesn't care so to speak, it can
cause Guide to stop working properly. For example when typing it may
emit your default system sound rather than the actual letters you are
typing. However if you unload a screen reader then load Guide then all
is well. Also, Guide is just not for beginners now; anyone can use it
due to the vast array of productivity tools it offers.

Hope this helps.

Re: [Blind-Computing] MSE updating links

2010-08-24 Thread Mike & Barbara Arcadia
Hi John;

Do the following;
hello there;

Following these steps on a Windows operating system, you can determine
whether your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit.

Difficulty: Easy Time Required: 5 minutes Here's How:

1. Open the System Information

Open the Start menu, and click on Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools ->
System Information

2. Look in the System Summary by tabbing 1 time on System Summary, then
route the Jaws to the PC cursor, press the page up key to take the cursor to
the
top of the page, and arrow down 1 line at a timeuntil you get to the
information below.

The System Information tool will display detailed information about your
Windows operating system . Once opened it will show the "System Summary" -
it's
an overview of your computer and operating system.

3. Look for the System Type Item

On the right hand side of the window you will see a list of items. Look for
the item called "System Type".

The value of this item will tell you whether your computer is 32-bit or
64-bit:

list of 2 items nesting level 1 . x86-based PC: It's a 32-bit computer. .
x64-based PC: It's a 64-bit computer.

you may need to route jaws to pc.

hope this helps.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Lost windows sound

2010-08-24 Thread Mike & Barbara Arcadia
Hi Lennie;

When you were in the control panel / sounds & audio properties / sounds
page, did you check and make sure that the sound scheme didn't get changed
to no sounds? I'm sure you did but, it's easier to start with the little
things first. Take care.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Lost windows sound

Thanks. Take care,

Lennie

In order to update your MSE version directly here are the links required.
The first is the 32 bit link and obviously the second is the 64 bit link:

[Blind-Computing] daily tip for today

2010-08-24 Thread David Ferrin
The first tip was from yesterday which I didn't get around to until this
morning. Never the less on with the show:

Customize The Win7 Start Button

Shutting down Windows 7 is a simple matter of clicking Start and Shut Down. If
you find yourself logging off or putting your computer to sleep more often than
you shut it down, you may want to customize the Shut Down button. Right-click
the Start button and choose Properties. Then, on the Start Menu tab, click the
Power Button Action drop-down menu and make a selection. Click OK. Now when you
click Start, you'll see the chosen action instead of Shut Down. It's an easy
way to make your computing a little simpler.

[Blind-Computing] IE8 portable

2010-08-24 Thread ikramy
hello all,
i'm using Windows Xp (english version). i needed to install internet explorer
(the arabic version) for some translation purposes, however, it has not been
installed as it requires an arabic version of windows.
now, i want to know how to make a portable version of IE, as it may solve my
problem. or if you have any other alternative solution to get ie in another
language rather than that of the operating system, i'll appriciate it.

[Blind-Computing] daily tip

2010-08-24 Thread David Ferrin
Using The Windows Logo Key In Win7
The WIN key (Windows Logo key) is a useful shortcut key. Pressing it will open
the Start menu, which is a helpful shortcut in itself. But it doesn't end
there. Press WIN-Spacebar to make windows transparent for a quick peek at the
Desktop. WIN-F opens a search box. WIN-HOME minimizes all but the active
window, and WIN-R opens the Run box.
