Hi David,
sorry for the bother, but how do you set up this operation? Do you create a
.bat file with the text and run it when you shutdown?

Thanks allot.

The system can be set to force all programs to unload before the system
shuts down. The fact is I do it all of the time. FYI here is the command
syntax.

reboot
shutdown -r -f -t 00

shutdown
shutdown -s -f -t 00

The switch -f is what forces all programs to close out. The -t switch is
for

setting a delayed timer, so where the 00 is displayed if say you wish to
have the system shutdown in 2 minutes the 00 would be changed to 120.

This can all be done using the scheduled task wizard.

You can do that, create a desktop icon, or even set it up under the
scheduled tasks link in your control panel. That last is probably the most
tricky but it is possible.

I might consider doing a demonstration recording some fine day if there is
enough of a need for it.

2011-09-27 Thread Brad Keller
I'm not sure about the char code for it but the symbol is found under the
bullets option in the home tab of the ribbon. If you do an alt + H then tab
down to bullets then press space it will take you into a list of bullets.
There you can arrow up and down through the options. The checkmark is there.
Once you find it just press enter and it should place one on the page.

[Blind-Computing] PHP editor with auto indentation feature

2011-09-27 Thread Dániel Kollányi
Dear List Members,

I write for this list first time so let me present myself to you. I am
a visual impaired (blind) programmer (aged 33) from Hungary; it's a
Central-European country. Nowadays I'm mainly coding in PHP, but
earlier I programmed in Perl for a while.

I use Win XP and JAWS for Windows screen reader.

The question which I apply to you is following:
I am looking for a PHP editor, or an editor
being able to edit PHP code which has auto indentation feature.
I tried out Komodo Edit 6 from Active state but JAWS didn't announce
letters or lines moving with cursor in editor and didn't announce
selected text using shift + arrow keys and JAWS key + shift + down
arrow, as well. I tried to turn off Code Intelligence that means
auto completion and other useful things, it didn't help.
I Googled for Komodo Edit and screen reader use and searched for this
app at blindcrawler.com which is a very good site but unfortunately I
did not find anything about it. Pls if anybody has experience with
this editor or knows any instructions about setting it to work with
JAWS better write it.

All the same I don't adhere to Komodo Edit. I would be glad of
somebody could offer me any alternative, e.g. another editor which has
auto indentation feature and works well or tolerable with JAWS.

I need this feature because of sighted colleagues find a source not
indented very ugly and hard to understand but correct indentation
helps me to identify how many level I stay in code reviewing it, too.
For this time I used Notepad built in Windows and made indentation
manually writing spaces at beginning of lines but I found it was a
very uncomfortable and slow solution and I liked to find a better one.

Thanks for you in advance.

Best regards,

Daniel

Best bet I can think of off-hand would be edSharp:
http://www.empowermentzone.com/edsetup.exe

I primarily use it for python programming, but also for PHP and HTML
sometimes, but aside from python, haven't really bothered too much with
indentation, but it can handle it well enough, and it's meant for use by
blind programmers etc., and also includes nice features like code snippets,
etc.

arrow, as well.

Daniel

Re: [Blind-Computing] Character code for check mark in MS Word 2007

2011-09-27 Thread Mike Barbara in Arcadia
Hi Jerry;

Below is some verification of what we are talking about is correct.
Hey Mike,

I use alt+251 to insert the Square Root symbol. As you already
mentioned, jaws will read it as letter v. You can add the Square
Root symbol in the default dictionary manager, and then jaws will read
it correctly.

This is how I did it:

1. Open notepad.
2. Press ALT+251, this will insert the Square Root symbol.
3. Note that Jaws will read the Square Root symbol as letter V.
4. Select and copy the symbol without any spaces.
5. Open the Jaws default dictionary manager from the Jaws utilities submenu.
6. Select the Add button to add new entry in the Dictionary.
6. Paste the symbol in the Actual word edit box.
7. Type Square Root in the Replacement word edit box.
8. Tab to OK.

Hope this helps,

Zaheer Sheikh

I tried the ALT 251 keystroke. Does it say VEE? If so, then it works
(I
am assuming since I have no usable vision).

   Hi Jerry;

The square root symbol is what's supposed to be used for the checkmark
symbol. In Googling how to type the square root I've found mixed
answers.
1 post says that there is not a way to type the square root symbol but,
on
the other hand I've found that typing the, ascii code, Alt + 251, is
supposed to make a square root / checkmark symbol. Be patient, I'm
going
   to
ask the Jaws-Users list . Take care.

You can do that, create a desktop icon, or even set it up under the
scheduled tasks link in your control panel. That last is probably the most
tricky but it is possible.

I might consider doing a demonstration recording some fine day if there is
enough of a need for it.

Although I don't know much about this I would also think it
would be important not to have open programs with unsaved
data or can this be covered with commands as well? Just
curious

It is no different than setting anything else to run at a
certain time. You
do need to know the command along with the switches to go
with it.

Does anyone know if it is possible for a computer to be
