Do you want the instructions on how to shutdown your system after a given
interval? If so here is the short version so to speak. Say for example
you

wish to shutdown your system after an hour has past then the command line
argument is as follows:

shutdown -s -f -t 3600

The time is specified in seconds which is why the number is so large. If
you
wish the system to reboot instead of shutdown then instead of the -s
switch
you use -r in it's place.

If you want directions to creating batch files I can supply them as well.

The real problem of blindness is not the loss of eyesight.
The real problem is the misunderstanding and lack of information that exist.
If a blind person has proper training and opportunity, blindness can be reduced

Hi Margaret,

Below are some notes I've saved on how to fix both your issues. The print
view notes are first, & the last is for resetting your zoom settings.

in the print layout view. If you are using Word 2007 or Word 2010, press
function key 6 when in a document until you find the status bar. Press
right arrow until you find the choice for print layout and if it is not
checked then press enter key to check it. Press function key 6 until you
are back in the main document pane.
Take care. ,

From: Negoslav Sabev
Press alt+w and use tab, not the arrow keys. Otherwise ctrl+alt+n changes
view to normal or draft in 2007 ctrl+alt+o changes view to outline
ctrl+alt+p
changes view to print layout

Please check and make sure these settings has been set correctly
1. Open the office product wich you have this problem, such as ms word,
excel etc
2. Press alt to activate the ribond menu, navigate to view tab.
3. Arrow down to zume sub menu, open it by righ arrow. You should hear Jaws
read: "zume... button"
4. Hit enter on it, a dialog appear.
5. Set zume to 100% and press enter to save changes.
That's my settings on ms word 2010, and it work well.
Hope that help

Hope this got you squared away. Take care.

When you press the alt+key, do you not hear;
Home tab 1 of 4.
Let's start there.
As I said, you can use the jaws virtual ribbon,
However, my personal opinion is,
If you use the virtual ribbon feature, you're really not taking the time
to

learn the actual ribbon and how to navigate properly.

My problem with WLM 2011 is that I can't get into the menus because it has
upper ribbon which won't let me access the menu bar.

How can I get rid of these ribbons?

Hello there;

Yu need to:
Go into the view menu,
Set the;
Message list drop down;
So,
Alt+v=view,
Down arrow once,
Right arrow until you hear;
Message list drop down,
Press enter.
Now tab and check, one line view.

Next,
Alt+v=view,
Down arrow once, right arrow until you hear; Reading pane drop down
press enter.
Now tab to off, press enter.

Next,
Alt+v=view,
Down arrow once,
Right arrow until you hear;
Calendar pane,
If it says,
Calendar pane pressed,
Press enter this turns off the calendar pane.
Note these instructions assume, the jaws virtual ribbon is off.

By the way, there are key strokes to do this, however, I thought it
best for folks to learn how to navigate the menus.

The thing I'd like to know is what settings make WLM easier to use?

I'm thinking that you don't although it is usable but not as easy as
Outlook
Express. Here again as was mentioned in a previous post on another
subject

such is the price of progress. My thinking is that Outlook Express worked
too well and was far too easy to use and we can't have that in the
computer

Re: [Blind-Computing] shutting down the computer

2012-05-06 Thread Lenny McHugh
I just did one quick test using the shutdown plus switches I set it for 30
seconds received a warning message and it worked fine. Just set it for 1800
seconds and going for a glass of red. Maybe two or three. Hopefully when I
come back the computer will be shut down. This is all that I need. The other
day when sending a large email, I could have set it for 30 minutes and went
for a walk.
After that freak power supply explosion I am apprehensive of leaving the
computer on for a long time unattended.

Thanks my friend!

Do you want the instructions on how to shutdown your system after a given
interval? If so here is the short version so to speak. Say for example you
wish to shutdown your system after an hour has past then the command line
argument is as follows:

shutdown -s -f -t 3600

The time is specified in seconds which is why the number is so large. If you
wish the system to reboot instead of shutdown then instead of the -s switch
you use -r in it's place.

If you want directions to creating batch files I can supply them as well.

I use Karen's Replicator, that combined with a shutdown command in a batch
file I created does exactly what you are asking. I normally run my backups
at the end of the day before turning in. What I do is start them out and
when Replicator is finish the batch file shuts the system down. The other
manner you could accomplish this task is to make a good guess as to when the
job in question will be finished and set the system to shut itself down at
or slightly after that time.

If this is some interest to you let me know and I will give you further

[Blind-Computing] external sd cards

2012-05-06 Thread Kimsan

Hi,

So, recording a sample tutorial and to have my jaws or screen reader come out
Using another sd card beside the one I have in the laptop what would someone
recommend? If there is a recommendation, where can I find it and roughly how
much would it cost?

I'm thinking of just using sound recorder but I wear a headset, which I do not
know if that is a factor.

Good Afternoon,

I have a Word 2007 document that I had previously saved and that somehow
got changed somewhere along the way from75% to 10% and also from print
to web layout. This is on a 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium machine and
Jaws 13 and WE 7.5.3.

Any help getting it back to normal would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

[Blind-Computing] iTunes;

2012-05-06 Thread David
Good afternoon all.

I have a question for you ITunes users.
I just got a call, regarding iTunes.
The person is using,
The latest version of iTunes,
Jaws11,
Windows Xp,
When he tries to connect to the iTunes,
It just says, connecting,
And just hangs there.
Would anyone have a suggestion for me to try?
I'm not an iTunes user so I have no idea.

Thanks in advance.

Also, if you use a backup program like cobian backup, this also will provide a
shutdown feature when completed.

I use Karen's Replicator, that combined with a shutdown command in a batch file
I created does exactly what you are asking. I normally run my backups at the
end of the day before turning in. What I do is start them out and when
Replicator is finish the batch file shuts the system down. The other manner you
could accomplish this task is to make a good guess as to when the job in
question will be finished and set the system to shut itself down at or slightly
after that time.

If this is some interest to you let me know and I will give you further

Is there any way to have the system shut down after a particular task is
completed? I am coping some large files to an external drive. I do not want to
wait until it is done for me to shut down, would like it to be automatic.
I never leave without shutting down. A few years ago I was at my daughter’s
home. We were all outside and there was a loud explosion. When we got into the
home we found that the computer’s power supply exploded. At least there was no
fire but what an ugly sound and smell. Just checked the copy has 28 minutes

Have you tried, alt+v=view?
When you press the alt+key, do you not hear;
Home tab 1 of 4.
Let's start there.
As I said, you can use the jaws virtual ribbon,
However, my personal opinion is,
If you use the virtual ribbon feature, you're really not taking the time to
learn the actual ribbon and how to navigate properly.

I'm thinking that you don't although it is usable but not as easy as Outlook
Express. Here again as was mentioned in a previous post on another subject
such is the price of progress. My thinking is that Outlook Express worked
too well and was far too easy to use and we can't have that in the computer

The product I think you are talking about is t-a-p-i-n radio, not
t-a-p-i-n-g radio. (No big deal unless you are trying to do a google search
or something like that.)

Anyway, the website you want is: http://www.raimersoft.com/tapinradio.aspx

Hope this helps.

Hi Arianna,
The installation for the Classic Shell is pretty straight forward,
everything is selected by default unless you are using IE8, in which case
the IE9 option will be unavailable.
If at any time after installing you decide you want to
use the search box in Windows 7, just put the focus on the start button,
as you might if you were wanting the properties of the start menu,
then route Jaws to PC, and press shift + the left mouse button, and the
Windows 7 start menu will appear with the search box in focus.
Keep in mind, that this will have to be repeated each time you want to use
the search box.
Otherwise, each time you press the Windows key, you should have a start
menu

like Windows XP.
HTH,
Rick Justice

Well, this add-on, free software can make the windows7 start menu look
and act a bit more like windows XP, if you want it to - and it also
changes a couple of other interface features in windows 7 to make them
act a bit more classic FWIW:

ON my windows7 machine, where the display theme is set to windows7
basic, from search box, if I arrow up once, and then right once, and
then down arrow a couple of times, then I can sort of find something
similar to the older windows XP start menu, if I then hit like the
letter A until it focuses on accessories, but, honestly, I generally
might just use the search box to find something specific.

[Blind-Computing] Classic Shell for Windows 7

2012-05-06 Thread Rick Justice
Hi Arianna,
The installation for the Classic Shell is pretty straight forward,
everything is selected by default unless you are using IE8, in which case
the IE9 option will be unavailable.
Otherwise, each time you press the Windows key, you should have a start menu
like Windows XP.
HTH,
Rick Justice

Hi Trish,
Sound Recorder in Win7 is pretty straight-up, as far as recording goes,
but you are stuck with the .wma format.

Hello there;
Actually, I did suggest he consider a digital recorder such as, the Olympus.
He could record the guitar lesson while home, and then transfer the file to
his computer, and then practice along with the audio through the computer.

However, I did indicate to him, I would look around for him.

For that purpose, he is probably better off with a small portable MP3 player
that he can operate easily, put in his pocket, and take around anywhere.

2012-05-06 Thread Rich De Steno
If he really wants to use the computer, a simpler program to use is MP3
Direct Cut. It is also free and will record directly in MP3. It is
much easier to operate than Audacity. If he just wants to play, record
and listen, and does not need sound effects or sound processing, it is a
simpler solution.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Audacity for Window's 7

2012-05-06 Thread David
Good morning all;
Well, I've just started working with a new client who is a musician he's a
drummer, however, he has an interest in taking guitar lessons.
Would this audacity program allow him to record his lessons, so he could
follow along in his practice sessions?
If so, where could I find some keystrokes/instructions.
I'm looking for a simple program for my client to use.
Something like,
R=record,
S=stop,
P=play/pause.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Need help with start menu in Windows 7

2012-05-06 Thread Rick Justice
Hi Jacob,
Classic Shell works very well for me on my Win7 system.
It also works so far on Windows 8.

Only like tested/tried it out once, for a little while, so can't tell you
too much, but don't remember having any real problems etc. off-hand.

Stay well

ON my windows7 machine, where the display theme is set to windows7
basic, from search box, if I arrow up once, and then right once, and
then down arrow a couple of times, then I can sort of find something
similar to the older windows XP start menu, if I then hit like the
letter A until it focuses on accessories, but, honestly, I generally
might just use the search box to find something specific.

 Stay well
