Re: [Blind-Computing] Laptop Battery vrs AC Power

2012-10-31 Thread Mark Torgerson
Hi
On my one HP laptop, the cable has a tendency to feel like it is
plugged in even when it is not. I always have to double check it. One way
to see if your charger is plugged in is to pop the battery out while your
computer is plugged in. If your computer stays running, you are definitely
connected to wall power.
A second issue I have run in to is when something happens to the
charger. I have managed to break the cable on several chargers. It never
hertz to have a second charger just in case.

God bless,
Mark

I have noticed of late, that while in my system's tray, one item states I
have 80% battery power and today it shows a message saying, I need to change
my battery.
I have the laptop plugged in at all times, so shouldn't it state it's on AC
power rather than battery?

Is there a button on the laptop that could have been flipped to battery vrs
AC, or is this a setting within the computer I need to check?

This laptop is an ASUS running windows 7 Home.

Any help appreciated..

[Blind-Computing] laptop screen rotated 90 degrees left

2012-10-31 Thread Sharon Gosling
Yesterday my computer froze, at least the sound did so I shut it down. When I
turned it back on there was no
sound. So I asked my husband what was on the screen. He said it was my regular
desktop but the top was at the left edge and the normal bottom was at the right
edge. I used the laptop keys to unmute the computer and it works normally with
Jaws now. But it makes my husband crazy that the info on the screen is laying
on its side.
Any idea how to rotate the screen back to the right?
I am not sure exactly when it got tipped but it was normal Sunday evening when
my sister used it.

[Blind-Computing] JAWS 14 Saying "Leaving Table"

2012-10-31 Thread Donnie Parrett
When going through my FaceBook posts from The Friend Mail, I hit the letter
H to take me from post to post. Several times while going thru a list of 50
or so posts I keep hearing JAWS 14 say "Leaving Table". This really gets
annoying. How can I stop JAWS from saying this?

Hi
My best guess then is that you will need a new battery. If you know the
mottle number of the computer, you can usually get a good deal on a battery
through E-Bay.
 I hope this helps.

Open Internet Explorer. Go to Quick Settings with Insert + v and type
table into the search box. Now arrow down to "Table show start and
end", and hit Enter. Press Space until it is unchecked. Hit Enter to
save the change and close.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Laptop Battery vrs AC Power

2012-10-31 Thread inthaneelf
a note for future reference, leaving the battery in while on wall power all
the time kills the battery!

at a minimum, you should take the computer off wall power and run the
battery until it dies, not until it says you need to change it, but until it
literally says good night and goes to sleep on you at least once a month, I
usually do mine twice a month and my last machine, lets see its 4 years old
now and I think I may be seeing a small amount of fall off in battery
longevity...

I have all that serial number stuff on here somewhere. Is there a universal
battery that works for all brands of laptops?
It's sitting at 78%, long as it's on AC guess it's not a priority. I did get
an email from Amazon on computers and accessories today sale, since I
purchased this from them maybe I can get a deal, think I stand a "ghost" of
a chance?
