If you have something like kerzweil or open book I think you can open it
with that. You can then save it as a text document.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Managing notes and course material

 Hello All,

I am going to be taking a training later this week in which I have been
given the very large document of course materials in an accessible PDF.
 The
course instructor quickly moves through the material sequentially but
 only
talks about specific items in the material that are either new, or best
support the topic being discussed. I would love to be able to follow
 along
in the PDF and then be able to make notes that correspond to the item
 the
instructor is highlighting. This is an annual training that I am
 required
to attend each year, so in the past I've tried following along in the
 PDF
and then ALT+TAB to write notes in the open Word doc, and I've also
 tried
not even bothering with the PDF and just taking notes in the Word doc.
 The
problem is that I can't match up my notes with the information in the
 course
material. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can read through the info
 in
the PDF and be able to take notes without leaving the program displaying
 the
PDF. I've got access to a Windows 7 64 bit laptop with JAWS 11 and 12,
 a
Verizon iPhone and an iPad first generation. I do not have a Bluetooth
keyboard for my i-devices, but if that is all I am missing to make some
 app
work, a trip to the apple store could be worked out.

 Any ideas would be appreciated.

 Thanks,

 Annette

Re: [Blind-Computing] My difficulty with drop box

2011-08-29 Thread Matthew C
The easiest way to do this is to create a folder you want to share in either
the drop box folder on the desktop or my drop box folder in the documents
folder. Once the folder is created go into applications and enter on the
drop box sub menu and then enter on create folder. You will be brought to
the site where you can log in if need be and enter an address you want to
share the folder with and it will send a request to the person or persons.
You can also paste a file or files in the public folder and then hit
applications and follow the instructions I gave to get to the drop box sub
menu and enter on copy to public link. You can paste this into a message or
email. Remember doing it this way, at least if you have a free account I
think, if too many people download from it you will be suspended for a time.
Hope this helps. The public folder at least.

1. While in Outlook Express, without any messages open you want to go to

2. You will be in the General tab when Tools Options opens so, tab about
6 times to, Check for new messages every, make sure this box is checked.
3. Now tab 1 more time to, Every minutes spin box, arrow up or down until
you have reached the number of minutes you want the computer to check for
new messages after. I have my computer set for 15 minutes. After setting
your minutes, tab to Okay, press enter to save your changes close. If you

want to check for messages sooner, you can press the, F5 key.

Hope this helps. Take care.

First of all, your subject line needs work, it doesn't tell us anything
  about your question,
which is why I changed it.
Secondly, it would be helpful to know what e-mail client you are using, if
that is the messages you are referring to.
Then, we could have a more relevant subject line.

I'm mentioning this because it could easily happen to anyone using a

I had a rehearsal and was bringing up the words to a song when my singer

After the computer was running for about five minutes, a picture of a
woman's breasts appeared with a link below it that said, To see more,

I was very embarrassed to say the least.
Apparently, my so-called friend had been visiting one of the X rated web

I scanned the system, performing a full scan which takes hours but the

I'm assuming the game itself is actually opening up. To fix this There's a
few solutions:

1. Start Menu:

a. Activate the Start button
b. then go to All Programs,
c. Then go to Startup.
d. Right-click the game in the Startup folder e. Select Delete to remove it
from the Startup folder.

2. MSCONFIG Settings:

a. Hold the Windows key and press R to open the Run window.
b. Type msconfig and press Enter.
c. Click the Startup tab.
d. Uncheck any startup program you don't want to run during startup.
e. Click OK.

You can then choose to restart your computer immediately or later.

3. The Program Itself:

a. Either you or your youngin' open the program you wish to disable from
running at startup.
b/ Look for its Options or Preferences.
c. Browse through these options for an option to Run Program at Startup.
Disable it.

[Blind-Computing] using jaws for sighted

2011-07-07 Thread Matthew C
It can be done. Realistically though that is what the insert f4 command is
for. Also Jaws reads internet pages sideways as it were left to right. I do
know it can be changed to be more like up and down but it has been a long

I don't understand how anybody with sight can realistically use JAWS.
Most users primarily use the mouse, and causes all sorts of difficulties
as JAWS constantly takes control of the focus. Browsing the web is
probably the worst. My now grown children have never been able to use
my computer with JAWS running. Furthermore, I can not even install JAWS
on their computers because some of their games do not work with the JAWS
display drivers installed.

 Hi, John,

I don't blame you for being careful when it comes to letting just
anybody use your computer. Sometimes you even have to be careful
with some family members. One time I had a sighted nephew work on
my computer and when I asked him what he was doing, he wouldn't
tell me. He never put porn sites on my computer or anything like

Hi Leslie,

Personally I have never had any luck sending anything in the Public folder
unless it has been zipped up. So, after zipping up the file, try the
following;
1. Copy / Cut the zipped up file into your Public folder wait until it has

been loaded into the folder.
2. Close the Pubblic folder close Dropbox. Depending on the size of the
file you are sharing it might take a little time for the file to upload. To

check the status of the upload, press Insert / Jaws key + F11, for the
system tray, arrow down to Dropbox, wait until Jaws reads all files up to
date.
3. After Dropbox says all files up to date then do the following:
1.A. Open the My Dropbox folder.
2.B. Open the Public folder.
3.C. Select the file, press the applications key, down arrow or press d
for Dropbox, open the submenu with right arrow or enter, down arrow or
press c until you hear Copy Public Link. Press enter on Copy Public
Link . By pressing enter right here, you have created a link that has been
copied to the clipboard by the Dropbox program.
4.D. Now, create a new email for whoever you want to have this Dropbox file.
After you have addressed the email and written whatever message in the edit
field, press your paste keystroke, control + V, and the download link will
be pasted into the email. When whoever gets the email, all they have to do
is click on the link and a download dialogue box will open to download the
file. Have the recipients of the file choose the save option when they get
the download dialog box.

Hope this helps. Take care.

My Dell laptop is about 5 years old.
Recently we have been getting the error message that we have the wrong AC
adapter plugged in.
However, it is the same adapter that came with the machine.
And it is apparent that it is feeding power to the computer, because the
screen is much brighter when it is plugged in.
Could this simply be a sign that the battery is weak?
The computer does not last very long off the AC adapter, and sometimes
won't boot up at all if it is disconnected from the adapter.
Any thoughts you have would be welcome.

In Windows Media Player use Press the Alt key and then right arrow until you
come to the Play menu then go down and there should be a Volume control

If that is the wrong menu then it will be on one of the other menus.

No not really though if the volume is set in WMP then it should stay at that
level unless you have changed the overall volume which will then change that
of WMP.

hello Larry
I have as the subject box states changed the text contained within it.
thank you to both yourself and Mathew for replying.
what I actually wanted was one level for everything.
for instance an m p 3 file plays a lot louder than a CD that the really not
interested blind society send out.
the m p 3 files can be heard 2 doors down while the CD'S I have to be
virtually sat on the loudspeakers.
so I wanted to know if there is a volume level that will play everything at
the same level unless I press f7, f8 and f9.
how did you get on with Maggie's netbook?

You MUST change the subject else no-one will check the message for the
latest question you ask in your mail!

In Windows Media Player use Press the Alt key and then right arrow until
 you
come to the Play menu then go down and there should be a Volume control
 there.

If that is the wrong menu then it will be on one of the other menus.

Sorry I don't use WMP that often.

highlight the one you want to open and hit applications and enter on open

Everytime I open up an attachment that requires WinAmp to open in order to
play the attachment I cannot get Winamp to close down using alt f4. This
does not only occur with the attachments and it is not just periodic, but
everytime I open WinAmp it seems like it is continuing to run in the

If anyone can help in solving my problem it will be greatly appreciated. I
would like to know how to solve the current problem of completely shutting
down WinAmp after it opens and also how to reassign the file extensions to
open with an alternative program. I do not believe it has anything to do

Hello there. Your Jaws key should work but you will have to install the 64
bit version of jaws on to the machine. This version can be easily found in
the downloads section of FS. It will be listed right under the 32 bit
version. I would uninstall Jaws then upgrade to the 64 bit version then
either have had downloaded the 64 bit version to a thumb drive or some sort

Hi All,

Below is a question asked from another list that he can't seem to find an
answer for. Can the members of this list give him a hand?
Here's the question;
Is someone able to share with me the protocol for uninstalling IE9 from
vista 32 bit, running Jaws11 latest?

I know I've typed this before but not sure if the message is getting out
there about the uninstall.

I've gone to Programs and looked for internet explorer in every way I've
seen someone type it here in the list. I went through the whole program
list and didn't see it. I went through the Updates list and don't see it
there either with the words internet explorer. I see something about
Windows kb repeatedly...maybe about 40 or more occurrences of that.

I am not seeing where to uninstall this program to be able to install IE 8.
The link someone shared with me for IE 8 32-bit works great but of course I
have to uninstall 9which is not showing up in any list that I know to
check.

Any suggestions on how to uninstall IE9 will be greatly appreciated.

Okay folks, can anyone give this guy a hand? Thanks a lot, you're a great
bunch. Take care.

2011-06-14 Thread Matthew C
Is it the same USB? I phrased that wrong but that is all I can think of this
time and with as little coffee as I have had lol. What I mean I guess is
that do they have the same speed? 1.0 or 2.0 that kind of thing. It may not
be able to be used on it due to age? Also have you tried different ports? As
sometimes some might not see a peripheral that is hooked up.

Hi list.
I have some old files on an old desktop computer running windows 98 second
edition. I want to move these files onto an external USB drive that I have.
So I can access them on my desktop running XP home. However, as I understand
it. The 98 system is probably formatted in fat 32. While I think this
external hard drive is formatted in NTFS. If I plug in the drive to the 98
machine? Can I just use the send to option to transfer the files? I think I
may have had trouble having the drive being recognized by the 98 machine
before. If this is true? Can I get around this issue?
Thanks Jason

Dan,

Glad to hear that you're enjoying the podcast. We're having fun doing them
and also learning a lot.

The answer to your question is: Yes, JAWS works fine on a netbook. I have
JAWS 12 running on a Windows 7 netbook with only 1 GB of RAM. We mostly use
it when traveling - Very handy and does everything.

One little lot: The speakers on some of these netbooks aren't very powerful.
In a noisy environment I will often use earbuds with the netbook. If you
want to play music (we listen to our home town radio station over the
internet when on the road), we use portable battery powered speakers.

Hope that helps. Try the Toshiba netbooks - some of them have very useable
keyboards.

If you don't require Braille output, a small netbook is the best bet.
 Just
choose one with a keyboard that is easy to use for the blind. I have a
Toshiba netbook which runs around $300. The keyboard is very well laid
 out
and the function keys, arrow keys, etc. are very easy to find because of
their spacing and occasional tactile dots.
 [PT]
If you do require Braille, the Pacmate is a great device. I used this at
work for many years. The virtue of having a Braille display is that you
 can
readily take notes, refer to your own notes and documents, etc. while at a
meeting and not disturb others with distracting speech or other noises.

The other advantage of the Pacmate is that it is compatible with all of
 the
Office applications that you are likely running on your PC - It has mobile
versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc. It is also easy to
 keep
documents, calendars, mail, etc. synced between the Pacmate and a Windows
 PC.

I use the PacMate Braille display to follow my show notes when recording
 our
weekly, half hour radio program / podcast on living with low vision (see
www.viewpoints.torpey.info for more info and links to the podcast).

One other advantage of the Pacmate's Braille display is that it can be
disconnected from the Pacmate and connected to your desktop or other PC to
be used as a Braille display for that computer.

Finally, before making a final decision, you might want to check out the
 new
PDA / Braille display which the National Braille Press plans to release
later this year. Their main goal was to make Braille displays more
affordable, so I'm sure it will have an attractive price point compared to
 some other Braille PDA's.

 Hope that helps.

We are sorry for the inconvenience!

We have been reported for such problem about a couple of users before and we
know that there is a incompatibility issue with the screen readers. The
reason is because we use a specific user library interface and for the
moment Revo Uninstaller is not fully compatible with screen readers.

We will look how to improve the accessibility on Revo Uninstaller and screen

especially at bootup

Hello everyone.

Recently I've noticed that my Acer machine, an old workhorse from 2007
running Windows XP and Jaws 11.0, , takes a really long time to boot up. I
can expect to wait about three minutes for this process to happen, and that
seems quite unnecessary. I'd like to keep this thing going for as long as
possible, and I've managed to eliminate a number of unnecessary processes,
services, etc, and recently with the help of CCleaner removed a bunch of
junk from my system which seems to have resulted in an appreciable increase
in speed. The bootup process still seems to take an age, though, and it's a
little frustrating to me that I can't see what's going on at bootup to
determine what might be making it so sluggish. My work machine is also
running XP, isn't much newer than this system, has a bunch of network
drive/connections to establish and yet still boots in thirty seconds or
less. I know there's a step by step bootup option you can enable so that
you can see each step in the boot process as it happens and select whether
you want to run this or that process, but that doesn't do me a lot of good
as Jaws is always one of the last things to run. So, is there any way of
making a bootlog that has the same information which I can read in a
textfile? How about any tweaks or suggestions users here might have? I've
found a number of useful sites, including process libraries that explain the

function of various system and non-essential processes that might load at
startup, but I'm wondering if anybody here might have any useful info to
pass along. In addition to increasing bootup speed, I'm also keen on ways I
might be able to decrease the general load on my CPU to make the system run
a little more smoothly. I am certainly aware of the need to do
defragmentations on the hard drive, but maybe the one that comes with
Windows isn't the best solution out there? I've heard this from other folks,

but I have no idea what programme i ought to use for this as I've always
used the native Windows defrag. How about msconfig? I know many people don't

use it, preferring a third party alternative...what of folks on the list
here?

Thanks!

JM

Hello David. Jaws will run fine on the machine. She does not need to copy
the authorization. All she needs to do is either contact fs to get her
authorization code. She can also go up to the fs website and there is a
section for checking authorizations. She can then generate one if she
doesn't know hers. All she will need is her unlock coe and serial number.
This can be found on the cd or in the about jaws dialogue box on a computer
she already has authorized. If you need further explanation feel free to
email me at mcare...@att.net and I can explain more clearly. What basically
will happen when she has that code is she will install the latest version of
jaws she is authorized for and choose authorize and follow the promts to
authorize using a key on line. It is pretty self explanatory.

Hi.
I have a student who is considering the purchase of a new netbook. My

this is true I know that this OS is limited to 2 GB of RAM. Considering
this what can she expect from overall performance when using this with a

Also, can the contents of the JAWS authorization CD be copied onto a USB

That is probably the same code I was referring to grin. I keep a text with
mine in it and it is 20 digits long. When I authorize I just copy and paste
that into the appropriate field and I am off and running. The only thing I
miss about the old style is that when you take off and auth it vanishes and
you have to call fs for a refill. If you have bad luck with computers like I

My
assumption is that most netbooks are installed with windows 7 Starter. If
this is true I know that this OS is limited to 2 GB of RAM. Considering
this what can she expect from overall performance when using this with a
screen reader. She owns JAWS but is also willing to use NVDA. She is
mainly interested in using her Web browser, email client, word processor and
spreadsheet.
Also, can the contents of the JAWS authorization CD be copied onto a USB
thumb drive so that I can successfully install and activate her copy of
JAWS?

Chris,
I use Outlook 2003 but I believe that the information should be the same.
Unfortunately, Matt isn't quite on target with this. The only way to
effectively set up different accounts with Outlook is in the Control Panel.
The key word is Mail and that will take you directly to the various
accounts in Outlook unless you have another program which has been
designated as your primary e-mail tool. As matt had indicated, it looks
like you can set them up directly in Outlook but they don't work for some
odd reason.
You have to set up each account individually. there's almost always one
called Outlook of course.
Now here's a very important point. When you are setting up these accounts,
there is a check box indicating that you want to be prompted for which
account to use.
If you are using Verizon as I am, there is a setting in the additional
options section which has to be checked as well. That one indicates that
authentification is required.

Once you have successfully set up these accounts, you will have the option
of creating separate folders, contact lists and so on for each individual
account.
I got this information from someone right on this list by the way.

Hello. I am not sure how to use avast, but one thing you can try
is booting your computer into safe mode, and then try to remove
the program. However, you may need sighted help to do this,
because you will not be able to use your screen reader. To boot
into safe mode, press the F 8 key while the computer is booting.
From the advanced boot options menu that appears, you will need
to go to the safe mode option with your arrow keys, and press
enter. After your computer boots into safe mode, try removing
the program. There may be a better solution, but as I am not
familiar with the Avast software, this is the only solution I can
think of at this time. You could also try removing the program
manually, but this process can be complicated, and dangerous if
you delete the wrong thing. Have a good day.

Hi,

Yes, but one needs to save the playlist, lest the last playlist be
overwritten by the new one.

Or, even worse, the new playlist gets added to the previous one, this would
especially happen if you used the include in Winamp option in your
applications menu.

You can ideally use the keystroke of control+S to save the playlist as an
M3U file, which you can name and position in the ensuing dialog box, which,
I'm assuming you know how to play with.

Just remember, and I can't remember the keystroke to at someone else gave on

how to do this, but, if you're going to create a second playlist,
control+tab to the playlist window, press control+A to highlight all the
tracks in the playlist, and press the delete key to clear the playlist.

At that point, one would press the letter L to add files to the playlist as
one requires.

I'm glad you got things working for you.

Hi Matthew,
The technician will probably install software on your computer, but you will

not need to use it, so it shouldn't be a problem for your screen-reader.
They may tell you it is necessary, but it is not, it is just for their
technical support staff's convenience,
since they can't think outside of a script. smile
I have none of their software on my computers.
I don't believe that the actual U-verse service goes on the computer, it is
more for the TV.
If you are using ATT service for the first time, as your ISP, beware
of the following:
If you have other e-mail addresses, like g-mail, they will have to be
registered with ATT before you can
use them for sending mail thru ATT's server.
I don't have the U-Verse service with them, just the dsl, but from what I
hear, your internet connection thru U-Verse should be pretty quick.
Good Luck,

Hello there. Here are 2 tips to also help with that ind depth and helpful
tutorial. To clear out a playlist even faster just be on the playlist editor
and hit control n for new. It will remove all tracks. Secondly you can move
files around with the combination of alt and either up or down arrow. Also
never, unless you really want a random selection hit control shift r. it is
a randomizer and can easily be hit by accident when using the control shift
t for time remaining.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Creating and Managing Playlist in Winamp using
Jaws

I wrote this tutorial up some time ago for someone else, and, given the
currently circulating thread of Winamp playlists, I thought I would post it.

Basically, it deals with creating and managing playlists using Winamp and
Jaws.

I'm sure there are no end of ways to create and manage playlists, so, keep
in mind that the below instructions are of my own method, and I've been
using the below method for quite some time.

Hope people get a use out of it.

***Begin Tutorial***

Believe it or not, it's easier to create a playlist with Winamp, than it
sounds.

First, go to your desktop, or where ever you keep the Winamp shortcut, and
enter on it.

Once the Winamp window opens, control+tab twice to get to the playlist
editor.

If you find that you've used the control+tab keystroke twice, and Jaws
didn't say playlist editor, then that means you have the playlist editor
closed.

You can open it in one of two ways.

You can press the keystroke of alt+E, or you can press alt+F, then arrow
down to playlist editor and enter on it.

I think you'll find the alt+E keystroke is easier. Smile.

In any case, once Jaws reports that the playlist editor is opened,
control+tab up to the playlist editor.

Now, this is going to sound weird, but go with me on this.

Once you land in the playlist editor, press control+A to highlight
everything, then press delete.

Don't worry if Jaws doesn't say anything, what you've essentially done is
delete any tracks that were in there from the last time you used Winamp to
listen to something.

Unfortunately, Winamp likes to leave residual ghost images of files it's
played in the last instance, and so, in order to create a clean playlist,
you have to delete what was previously there.

So, now that you've done that, press the letter L for lists, and this will
open up an open dialog box.

Those of you familiar with downloading from send space, or saving as and the
like, will be familiar with this dialog box.

When this dialog box opens, you'll land on the filename edit box. Do a
shift+tab to go to the file list window just above the filename edit box.

Now, depending on where you last took Winamp, you won't know where you'll be
in the file list, so a good rule of thumb is to press the backspace key
seven or eight times until Jaws stops talking.

When he does, do a say line command with insert+up arrow, and Jaws should
read out, Not Selected My Documents.

This means you're on your desktop, and you can now go to the folder where
the files are that you want to play.

So, if the files are in a folder three levels deep into your my documents
folder, let's call it Thea's audio files, you would press the spacebar to
select My Documents, press the enter key to go into that folder, then arrow
or find the folder titled Thea's Personal Files, highlight it, then press
enter.

Once in that folder, find the next folder, called Thea in Hawaii, enter on
it, and finally go to Thea's audio files, and press enter.

Be careful here, you don't want to make a common mistake that everyone
makes, even me before I realized it, smile, do not touch any of the arrow
keys, or the spacebar key, or anything on your keyboard until you've done a
select all with control+A, and I'll explain later.

Once you've done the control+A, tab to the open button in the dialog box,
and press the spacebar to allow Winamp to place all the files you just
selected into the playlist.

There is an even easier way to create a playlist, if you aren't selective
about what it is you're wanting to play, in other words, if you're not
actually trying to create a playlist for a party, or just want some music
playing in the background while you're cleaning house, or a book playing
while you're knitting or something like that, you can just go to your
desktop, without opening Winamp, navigate to the folder where the music
files are that you wish to play, now, this could be a music album, or an
audio book of some kind, and highlight it without going into the folder.

Once you do this, press your applications key, which is generally the first
key to the left of the right control key (*keep in mind your keyboard
configuration my be different from other configurations*), and arrow down to
Play in Winamp, or

Re: [Blind-Computing] muting jaws

benefit.
If you mute jaws, the clock is still running, and your 40-minute mode will
expire whether Jaws is talking or not.
Why not keep Jaws from loading at start-up, and use NVDA, and then use your

 Hi G.Braille;

The steps you have posted are correct but, you have to have NVDA Jaws
running at the same time to do this. I tried the sleep mode thing on my
computer let me tell you, it was a major pain! You have both programs
yakking at you at the same time. The biggest pain is that you still have
 to
use the NVDA pass through keystroke to get to the Jaws configuration
manager. Personally what I do is, if I am going to run NVDA is unload
 Jaws
first then, start NVDA but, there are times I have had to start NVDA while
Jaws is also running and, that is where it's nice to know the pass through
keystroke for NVDA, to get Jaws shut down while NVDA is running. I have
used the sleep mode option in the past with other self voicing programs
 but,
I don't like using it with NBDA. This is my personal preference and I am
 by
no means suggesting that my way, is the way others should do this. After
trying the sleep mode with NVDA, I was ready for a snooze as well, on
 Doctor
 Phil's couch!! LOL

 Take care.
 Mike

What about if you make jaws to sleep? Snoring too! Smile
Here is the instruction from jaws configuration.
This dialog is found within Configuration Manager, under the Set Options
  menu.

  Sleeping Mode

These check boxes are used to turn off JAWS processing within specific
applications. This is generally used in applications that provide their
 own
  speech or Braille support.

We recommend you do not set this option in Default.jcf, as this would
 stop
  all processing of JAWS commands.

a.. Enable: If checked, this option enables sleep mode, and turns off
 JAWS
processing. This check box is cleared by default.
b.. Unload Synthesizer: If checked, the synthesizer is unloaded from
memory, freeing it for use by other applications. This check box is
 cleared
by default. This check box is only available if the Enable check box is
  checked.

   Hi Yvonne;

If you have Jaws running you start NVDA, Jaws keystrokes will no
 longer
work. Try the following when you have NVDA Jaws running at the same
   time.

   1. Press Insert + F2, This is, Pass next key through NVDA+f2 Tells NVDA
 to
pass the next key straight through.
   2. Now, use the Jaws keystroke of Insert / Jaws key + F4, then press
 enter
to unload / shut down Jaws. Jaws will shut down only NVDA will be
running. If you want to use Jaws again, press Insert + Q, to shut down
NVDA. Then invoke whatever your shortcut keystroke is for starting
 Jaws.
This is what I do on a XP computer, hopefully it will work the same way
   with
   Windows7.

   Hope this helps. Take care.

Not 100% sure but I believe if you try and start NVDA with Jaws

   it
will close jaws.

And if it doesn't then you will have lots of problems because even
 though
Jaws is silent you still have the competing keyboard commands ... so

Hello all.

I am using Jaws 11 and Windows XP along with Excel 2007.

I have the need to compile a list of words and alphabetize them so I have
done so with no problem.

However, when trying to copy the words to clipboard so I can emboss them,
cell and table information is copied as well.

How do I copy only the word list?

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

have read that the MAC comes with it's own screen reader, that Apple

software versions. What I don't know is:
1. Is the MAC user friendly for a blind person?
2. Is there scanning software that is compatible with the MAC (I currently
use Open Book, but this is not compatible with the MAC.

Any and all advice including pros and cons would be greatly appreciated.

My advice is do not upgrade! I absolutely hate Windows Live Mail and so
wish I had Windows Mail. But, Windows 7 ships with Windows Live Mail so I

have it. It has ribbons and although it works with Jaws, the interface is

not as smooth. Example, I have no way of knowing if a message has been
read or not. I can't easily get to the Date without being in a message,
the ribbons are confusing, and on and on. I wouldn't do it if I had a
 choice in the matter.

 it.After
installing it just exit it from the system ttray. Then go to my
 computer
local c drive program files and into windows live. Find msnmgr.exe and
 go
into properties for it. Control tab and check run as and in the drop
 box
menu tell it as win 2000. This will disable the upgrading and it works
better. Would be better if you at least had jaws 10 but it may work.
 You

Without sighted help, your only other option to solve the captcha would
 be
to use Firefox with the Webvisum add-on. Webvisum uses a proprietary
process to solve image captchas . When you encounter a page that
 contains
such a captcha like the one on the Yahoo page you are having trouble
 with,
you simply press Alt-Control-numrow 6, and the captcha is submitted to
Webvisum, which decodes it and returns the result in the clipboard,
 ready
to paste into the appropriate edit field. But it only works with
 Firefox
and not IE, so if you don't already have Firefox, you would need to
download and install it first before you can install Webvisum. To learn
 more about Webvisum, visit:

msn messenger is in essence the same program as windows live messenger. It
is just a more stripped down version.

Hello Mark and all. Mark you will want to downgrade to an earlier version of
wlm. Say version 14. Something. I can get it to you if you need it.After
installing it just exit it from the system ttray. Then go to my computer
local c drive program files and into windows live. Find msnmgr.exe and go
into properties for it. Control tab and check run as and in the drop box
menu tell it as win 2000. This will disable the upgrading and it works
better. Would be better if you at least had jaws 10 but it may work. You may
even have to go earlier than the one I said.

Go into preferences of win amp with control p. Then hit f until it says
filetypes. Tab to the list and hit f until it says flak. Make sure this is
checked. You should also be able to tell it to check all. If not just make
 sure flak is checked.
