what gives.

Hope this helps a little bit.

Hi All,

How do you get NVDA to tell you that there is an attachment?  For example;
When I am arrowing through my In Box Jaws tells me attachment if the
message has an attachment, and NVDA doesn't. Does anyone know of a way to
make NVDA speak when there is an attachment? All help will be gratefully
accepted. Take care.

Re: [Blind-Computing] why am I getting prompted for a password for thispersonalityz?

2009-12-13 Thread ROSEMARIE CHAVARRIA

Hi, Randy,

I know what you mean about your head starting to split because that's how
I'm feeling about windows messenger. I'm so tired of it coming up every time
I try to do email messages, go on the internet or even just go on the
desktop. I wish I was able to help you with eudora but I haven't used that
program before. One of the reasons I uninstalled thunderbird was it kept
asking me for my password--plus it was more complicated than I thought it
would be.

Hello, Yvonn,

When you type in your password, it says star star star. That's so nobody
can get a hold of it and try to hack your computer. When I first set up my
account, I didn't put the password in a folder of outlook express. I just
remembered it. It's actually the password for your email address. If you
forgot your password, you could call your provider and have them set you up
with a new one. You could also have a sighted friend help you set it up to.

Hope this helps some.

Hello,

Do you have a password for outlook express? If you do, that's the one you'd
use for thunderbird. I sent an email to a friend last night and didn't have
trouble with entering my password. As for Jaws, I have a much older version

Hello all,
Thunderbird 3 was released a few days ago. It works brilliantly with
JAWS 11 at my end, not sure about earlier versions. You can get it from

David I believe you can upload this on your site as it's free to

Hi, Chris,

I tried that setting but the messages didn't read out automatically. The

ah ok. Also reading your last message something you can try is to go into
run and type in msconfig. When it opens control tab to start up tab and
uncheck the thing that pertains to windows messenger. When done hit ok and
you will need to reboot. When this happens messenger should no longer
start

up. Hope this helps.

Hello there. Are you talking about windows messenger or windows live
messenger? Same company two different programs that bring you

the same thing. I know that if your using windows live messenger you
have

to
use the latest version. I know there is a work around to make earlier

I couldn't find anything that pertains to windows messenger so I looked at

Then

I restarted the computer. Let's hope it worked. If it didn't, I'll let you

ah ok. Also reading your last message something you can try is to go into
run and type in msconfig. When it opens control tab to start up tab and
uncheck the thing that pertains to windows messenger. When done hit ok
and

you will need to reboot. When this happens messenger should no longer
start
up. Hope this helps.

Hi Lois,

I just found out about a great program on this list a couple of weeks ago.
It's called cdex. all you do is put your CD in, start CDEX, it goes out to
an internet site and gets all the information about the CD including
Artist,
Track Titles, year, etc. Then you just hit either F8 to rip it in .wav
files
to your computer, or F9 to rip them as .mp3 files. It puts the CD in your
My

Music folder under your My Documents folder. I love it! It's so easy.

The direct link for the program off of the Blind Computer users programs
page is:

The other standard way of resolving these problems sounds odd but often
works.
Basically you have to re-install the Google Toolbar. Rerun whatever it is
you have installed that has put the google toolbar on your system. If
you
are not sure what this is find the recent things that you have installed
and

as well as tabbing to the next key on each setup stage keep on pressing
insert plus B to read each part of the install dialogues as they come up .
This will help you find the program which has installed the google
toolbar.

Once the Google toolbar is completely installed restart your PC.
Now go to add remove programs, make sure no other application is running
and retry removing the program . Hopefully it will come off now.

I just received my Coby MP200 MP3 player from JR, and it is truly simple
and totally blind accessible. On top of the unit is the earphone jack
into which you plug the included earbuds. The front panel has 5 discrete
buttons arranged in a vertical column. From top to bottom, the buttons
are skip forward, play/pause/power, skip backward, volume up and volume
down. Pressing and holding the second button from the top for 5 seconds
turns the unit on, and pressing and holding it again for 5 seconds turns
it off. That's all there is to it. The bottom of the unit has a USB
connector that plugs directly into a USB port, although a separate USB
cable is also included. You just plug it into your PC and copy and paste
the MP3 files you want to download. Just install the included AAA
battery

and you're good to go. The sound quality is surprisingly good, at least
using a better pair of earbuds than the included ones. There is
absolutely no learning curve, and no sighted assistance is required to
use

it. The included software, which I have not tried yet, is fully JAWS
accessible. With 2gb of memory, it can hold up to 1,000 songs. This is
probably the best blind accessible MP3 deal ever. It is still available
from JR for $10 with free shipping, but they probably won't last much
longer at that price. They make wonderful stocking stuffers. The
hardest

part of using this gizmo is getting it out of the plastic blister pack
which requires a heavy duty scissors to cut open.

[Blind-Computing] windows messenger interfering with outlook express

2009-11-18 Thread ROSEMARIE CHAVARRIA
Hi, everyone,

I was trying to reply to an email when all of a sudden windows messenger popped
up and asked me to type in contacts or something like that. I went into the
tools menu, hit O for options, went to the preference page and unchecked the
box for messenger not to start up when I boot up the computer. Apparently that
didn't do the trick. There's probably something wrong in outlook express.

Any help with this problem would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

 Hi
Today my IE 7 decided to update to IE 8. I thought it sounded like a
good idea. So, I told it to go ahead. Now it will only run with add ons
disabled and when I bring up my home page (Google) it says I need to press a
button to open parent document. First, how do I turn on add ons in IE 8 and
second, how do I get IE 8 to display the real Google page?
  Thank you for your help.

[Blind-Computing] shortcut takes me to the microsoft site

Hi, everyone,

I have the new google accessible search as my home page but something
weird is happening. When I hit my shortcut for internet explorer which

about that new search engine called bing. Instead of going to the
microsoft site, I'd like to go directly to my home page. Is there
something I can do to correct this problem?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

tab over to where it says settings.

if I'm correct, this is a radio button, it should be set to the first
option, use same settings as my incoming server. or something like that.

 then hit ok.

if yours is like mine, it will be set to the other radio button, this then
has boxes for username and password.

since I've changed this setting I don't get the log in screen, it just sends
emails as it used to do.

weird though, as I don't remember changing that setting.

any way, hope it helps solve your issue.

actually thinking about things, I'm sure I've got a text file here with all

[Blind-Computing] downloading the kitchens inc games

Hi, everyone

I'm thinking of downloading some of my favorite kitchens inc games. I

I checked my hard drive yesterday and I have 1.45 gigabytes left of

the games? I'm asking because I still have the LEFT BEHIND books on
the hard drive and want to eventually get them off.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] downloading the kitchens inc games

 Hi, everyone

I'm thinking of downloading some of my favorite kitchens inc games. I
used to have them before but in October of last year I had to have a
system restore done on my computer. I tried looking for the games but
my nephew said I'd probably have to reinstall them.

I checked my hard drive yesterday and I have 1.45 gigabytes left of
free space. Do you think it would be safe to download at least some of
the games? I'm asking because I still have the LEFT BEHIND books on
the hard drive and want to eventually get them off.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

 Many thanks in advance.

[Blind-Computing] finding the size of a large file

2009-06-04 Thread rosemarie chavarria
Hi, everyone

I'm thinking of putting all my LEFT BEHIND books on a thumb drive but
I don't know how to find the size of a file to see if it will fit. I
asked my nephew and he said to find it in properties but it's not
there. How do I find out how large the file is so I can put it on a
proper thumb drive?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Hi listers. I was hoping to use System Access to Go as a backup screen
reader to JAWS. When I download SA to Go, it works fine. However,
whenever I try to close it by pressing Insert-F4, my computer always
freezes. I hear the loggoff message and then a pinging sound over and
over from my speakers. My keyboard becomes completely frozen rendering it

unusable, and the only way to restore things to normal is to turn off my
computer using the front panel power button and then reboot. It is as if
my computer becomes stuck during the program close process. This has
happened every time I tried to close SA to Go. I have contacted Serotek
support a few times about this problem, but they never reply. Any ideas
on why closing SA to Go would cause my computer to freeze? Has anyone
else experienced this problem? Thanks for any help.

Hi, Lino

I used to use system access to go when I shopped on the Albertsons

JAWS is my normal default screen reader, and I only use System Access to Go
when I want to access a web page that JAWS has difficulty reading, or when I
lose JAWS speech. So when I'm finished using SA to Go, I want to be able to
close it and re-launch JAWS without having to restart my computer. But
restarting my computer from the turn off dialog while SA is still running
may be the only work around at this point as long as the tech guys at

Nice try, Mark. But I know that Pressing Insert-F4 is the correct keystroke

to close SA to Go because I make sure there are no other applications
running . I have also tried closing SA to Go from the System menu with the
same result. I hear the log-off message and then my computer seems to hang
or get stuck. When this happens, I hear a ping or ding sound over and
over from my speakers like a broken record. Since my keyboard is completely

frozen, I can't even launch JAWS or Narrator to get some speech. The only
thing I can do is to shut down my computer with the power button and reboot.

Fortunately, when I turn on my computer again, JAWS comes up speaking, and
everything seems back to normal with no apparent ill effects.

 Hi
I haven't had your exact trouble but there are a couple ideas that come

to mind. On my laptop computer I found that there was no insert key and so I

had to use a different key combination. The other thing is that insert alt
f4 may be set up as a hot key on your computer. This could cause the key
combination to perform any number of things that wouldn't be what you wanted

to have happen. I hope this helps.

[Blind-Computing] accessible mp4 players

2009-04-29 Thread Rosemarie Chavarria
Hi, everyone. Someone on another list I'm on is asking where you can get
accessible mp4 players. I don't know of any brands that are accessible or
where you can get them. Any information you could give me would be very much
appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Fw: External Hard Drive

2009-04-29 Thread Rosemarie Chavarria
Hi, George. Yes, all the Circuit City stores are closed now. Maybe Best
Buys might sell external hard drives too but I don't know for sure. I have
a nephew who runs a computer shop and I could ask him how much those drives
run for as far as price. I don't know enough about that where I could give
correct information.

I bought my 500gb at Circuit City but I think they are all closed now, but
buy.com has all kinds of them on there web site, for less than I paid back

Mine is 500 GB which I will never fill. The one I bought doesn't have to be
put together. I get it and just plug it in. That is probably the exchange
for the less room.

Hi Rogelio,
I just bought a Western Digital Elements external hard drive from the
walmart website for about the same price with about 640 GB. It all
depends how much you are going to put on it.
It has an USB cable and AC adapter. I haven't put it together yet, but I
soon will.
The only two things I wonder about is that there doesn't seem to be an
on/off switch on it, and it came pre formatted but doesn't say what the
format is.
I guess I'll have to connect it to find out the format.
Also, the instructions that came with it in the box aren't in English. :)
Thanks to the list for the discussion about the Windows Backup utility. I
didn't know that it existed until I read about it on here.
I now have it downloaded an installed.

Hi Rogelio,
The 160gb that you refer to is not memorey,
instead it is hard drive storage capacity, there is a big difference.
Yes, the price you paid isn't bad for that amount of storage.

Re: [Blind-Computing] the URL for google accessible search

2009-04-29 Thread Rosemarie Chavarria
Hi, Don. Glad you got the new home page working. Sorry the old URL
wouldn't delete. Did you try selecting it and then hitting the delete key?
That's what you have to do. Anyway, I'm glad you have accessible search as
your home page. That's my new home page too.

Hi, Don. Here's what to do to make it your home page.

1. Go to internet explorer and open the site you want to make your home
page. Hit enter on it.
2. Go to the tools menu with alt T and hit O for options.
Hit enter on it.
3. The first field will show the current home page. Select the address
and
delete it. Then type the address of the site you want to be your home
page.

4. Tab to use current page and hit space bar to select it.
5. Tab to ok and hit space bar to activate it. When you open internet
explorer again, your new home page should come up. Hope this helps.
