Re: [Blind-Computing] Reading Tables in MS Word with Jaws
You can use the arrow keys to navigate a table, but that will move you character by character when you use the right and left arrows, and line by line with the up and down arrows. This is fine, but can require a lot of key presses. Another option is using Control+Alt+arrows. When using the key combination with the up and down arrows you will move up and down from row to row within the same column and JAWS will read the entire contents of the cell. When using the key combination with the right and left arrows, you will move right and left across a row. Again, JAWS will read the content of the cell as you move into that cell. You can also use Tab and Shift+Tab to move through a table. When using the TAB key you will move from left to right across a row. When you get to the end of the row, another press of the TAB key will move you to the first cell of the next row. Shift+Tab will do the reverse, moving you from right to left and from bottom to top. When using Tab to move through the table, and you press it when you are in the last cell in the last row, a new row will be added. If you did not want to do this, use Control+z to Undo this action. Re: [Blind-Computing] Reading Tables in MS Word with Jaws
When entering data in a cell of a table, there are a few things to be aware of. When using TAB and Shift+TAB to move through your table, the contents of the cell will be highlighted when you land in the cell. If you press a character , Enter or SpaceBar, the contents will be erased from the cell and replaced with whatever you pressed. This is an ideal way of replacing the contents of a cell when you want to paste new info. If there is information in the cell and you need to add more info into that cell, you will use the arrow keys and/or Control+right or left arrow to move to the location in the cell where you want to add the new information. Re: [Blind-Computing] Reading Tables in MS Word with Jaws
Personally, I find using tables in word to be awkward and tedious. My solution is to go to excel and open a new worksheet; go to the table in word select all and copy (Control a, Control c); then paste this into to the excel workbook you have opened. The same table you had in word will appear in the columns in your excel worksheet. I find an excel table far easier to use then a word table. -Original Message- From: Blind-Computing [mailto:blind-computing-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of mark Sent: Tuesday, October 02, 2012 9:27 PM To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com Subject: [Blind-Computing] Reading Tables in MS Word with Jaws Hi I recently received an important MS word document that has a table with data I need to enter. Re: [Blind-Computing] Reading Tables in MS Word with Jaws
Hello, Firstly, I am not a JAWS user, but since I am with low vision, I use the keyboard alot. So say you go to cell A1 (row 1 column 1) and want to move to the next cell, you press the TAB key. When you reach the last cell (last row last column) and you press a TAB key, Word will open a blank row for you bellow the last one, with the number of cells equal to those of the last one. The left and down arrow key are not of an use because it doesn't move a cell to the left or down, just a character left and a line down. If you have trouble using the TAB key due to a key confilict you may use as well (alt down=tab and alt up=shift tab) for the tables.
