This may sound kind of dumb to some but, it has always worked for me. If I
am in doubt as to what a switch or pot or such does, I try it with speaker
audio first. With eight ohms, i mean after the transformer, you can't hurt
anything or your self and then you know before using it in 1 10.

I have had an air compressor for a while now and never had any trouble
using my nail guns. I have three, a framing gun what they call a brad gun and a
middle size one. If the gun is not shooting hard enough tern up the pressure
some. I also have many other pneumatic tools and just connect them and go. In
fact, when I built my shop I ran p v c pipe thru the wall and put my compressor
in another room so it wouldn't be so noisy. I just have a switch to tern it on
and off in the shop, I never see the regulator at all.

[BlindHandyMan] The gathering.

2010-04-09 Thread Phil Parr
Semiannual gathering, The Fourth, Houston 20 10.

It's time again for another gathering of the faithful or faithless as the
case may be.

This document is to announce a gathering of good folks this fall at the
Marriott North Houston at Greenspoint. We will begin our celebration on Friday
October first and continue until Monday morning October the fourth. Some have
described this three day event as a great party and I, for one, wouldn't
disagree with that assessment. Our structure is very loose allowing for much
visiting, playing music, eating and drinking, and dancing. We do however have
a very flexible schedule of activities. Most attendees will arrive sometime
Friday and gather in our conference room for live music and a getting
acquainted period Friday evening. This will of course include a meeting of the
blind rifleman's association. However, we must insist as always, no actual
rifle shots be fired. In fact, the only shots there will be probably brought by
Carla or rifleman association president Dale Campbell. Speaking of Sir Dale,
we will be recording an episode of Cooking in the Dark Saturday at one p.m.
Dale of course will be on hand for the recording along with Cheryl Cummings and
her husband and audio engineer the awesome Tim Cummings. Our actual
introductory session is scheduled for Saturday morning at around nine thirty.
At that time we will record everyone's name and ask a little something about
each person. As always, I promise no speeches or lengthy lectures. Saturday
afternoon we are working on a all in play poker tournament. Details will be
fourth coming. Saturday, a great night of music and dancing until all hours.
Some individual performances and a group of us at times but much music. If you
play, sing, or whatever bring what you need and come on down you will be
welcome. Piano and key board will be provided for all. If your instrument needs
amplification you need to let me know so I can bring enough electronics. My
contact information will be at the bottom of this document.

Sunday morning, Miss Emma Lee, will host the singing of Hymns and a little
Sunday morning service for those who wish to attend. We do need more attendees
on Sunday morning or they are going to cut off our federal funding. Sunday
afternoon we will have our famous show and tell. If you have something made for
blind persons or a product you use that is blind friendly bring what ever and
show us. Sunday night, more music and dancing some live and some from other
sources, you will just have to take your chances.

As I stated, this gathering will be at the Marriott North Houston at greens
point very close to Bush international airport. The hotel has a free shuttle
that runs every 30 minutes to transport you from airport to hotel and back to
airport when you are ready to leave. By the way, dog guides are certainly
welcome. I have asked that we all be billeted on the same floor but we will
just have to wait and see if they honor that request. Jovina has much
information about the hotel and will post it to the list very soon. Cost of
rooms is 79$ per room, not per person. This means if you have a shared room the
cost will be half that. Rooms can be reserved by calling the Marriott north in
Houston at 281. 875. 4000.

Ask that your room be with the blind handyman gathering. You will need a credit
card to guarantee your room but, your card will not be charged until you arrive
in Houston to claim your room. It is my understanding that the reservations
office is open between the hours of 9 A M and 5 P M central time week days. We
have blocked 20 rooms for now but they assure me more can be acquired if
needed. I can tell you this hotel offers two restaurants so we won't go hungry.
Of course you will be on your own for meals so, how you handle this is up to
you.

Registration fee this year is 30$ per person and if possible needs to be
paid in advance of the gathering. We have done this by mailing a check the last
three times and that has worked out very well. The address to mail your
registration check is, Phil Parr, 16 04 Southwood drive Lufkin Texas, 7 5 9 0
4. Even if you live in Houston and plan to attend, please snail mail me your
check so if we need a larger conference room or more sleeping rooms this can be
arranged.Besides that, it is a real drag to get a sighted person to walk
around trying to figure out who paid and who didn't. There is an internet
connection in our conference room and we are going to try to set up a wireless
network so, bring your lap tops.

This gathering is not affiliated with any political party, blindness
organization, religion or movement of any kind. Many of us have very differing
opinions about such things but, we promise not to discuss these issues during
the gathering. This way their won't be any blood shed. This weekend is set
aside for making new friends, catching up with old

Because of the late playing of music on Saturday night Sunday religious
service will began at 9 30 A M. Don and his wife Emma Lee will host this mostly
singing and praising event.

At 11 Sunday morning we will record show 250 of the Blind Handyman. As
usual, we don't know what will happen during the show but, you'll want to be
their to witness it.

Sunday afternoon at around two we will do a Blind Like Me program
featuring-- well, a guest to be named later.

After that we will have, for lack of a better name, show and tell. There are
always some surprises and lots of fun during this event. Maybe you have
something blind friendly or unique you would like for all of us to see. Please,
bring what ever it is along and show it to us.

Sunday evening, more live music until about say 10.

At that time Carla Joe and Her friend Mary will start the dance party, or as
Tim would say, the awesome! dance party.

You can call me and get more details on any of these events or, just show up

As I stated at the outset, this is very much a public gathering and all,
that means you, are certainly invited. If you have suggestions for things we

the cat is absent I likewise have some guise in otherwise known as drinking
buddies. Actually the groupe usually consists of the two Don's, Tom Houston and
our friend John Conley from Dallas. Minus the ailing Tom Houston that is
exactly who is in residence for this one. From time to time I do invite others
to participate but this one came about with short notice so, just the regulars.
Point being, we plan to terrorize the blind handyman room over at for the
people tonight at say ninish eastern. Other then that, our plans for today
include ordering a stream for John Conley, checking on the new y figh radio
from c Crain and, eating and drinking copious amounts of comestibles and
liquids.
If your in the area stop by and if you arrive before maybe six P M I promise
some of us will be lucid.

Re: [BlindHandyMan] Circular or table

2007-11-02 Thread Phil Parr
Well, my friend Dale Levens pretty well said it all but, just a couple of
things.
With a table saw you and probably a friend are moving a sheet of ply wood
around. Unless you have a big room in witch to do this it is best done out of
doors. Besides that you will need lots of extensions and maybe a table to
support the ply wood as it is cut. A table saw is wonderful if you are working
with smaller peaces of lumber inside of a shop.
I would by both a circular or skill saw and a cheap table saw. Use the skill
saw for reducing ply wood to a manageable size and then use the table saw when
you need it. I have a cheap table saw I paid around 1 50$ for probably 10 years
ago. One must go slow with it but it works.

  Hi gang,

I am contemplating purchasing a circular saw or a table saw. I know I have to
cut some plywood to make a counter for the wet bar I am in the midst of, and
yes if you like keg beer come on over. I am also thinking about making a little
cupboard type of thing to put by my front door. The thing I don't know for sure
is which saw would be better for me. Are table saws safe for a total to use? I
think I would get the use out of either but don't know what would be best. Any
help would be greatly appreciated.

  Subject: [BlindHandyMan] Piano Hinge

Putting a thirty inch piano hinge on a toy box lid I am completing for the
  niece for Christmas.
If I put the hinge flat on the back of the box and the back edge of the lid,
(easiest) the hinge is exposed, on the back of the box of course.
If I hide the hinge, fold it in half, putting it on the top edge of the back
of the box, and under the lid, (hardest) the lid doesn't lay flat any
  longer.
OK, it is only a sixteenth of an inch, but I did try hard to make the lid to
  lay flush and flat.
I could remove a sixteenth of an inch off the top edge of the back, I
suppose, but don't really want to go there.
So, is one way correct and the other not, or is it just a matter of
  preference?

Dale, thanks for that explenation, I have read it several times and think I

[BlindHandyMan] I wonder.

2007-09-22 Thread Phil Parr
O k, I have a small toaster oven that I use mostly for warming up things and
here is my question. Say I put some frozen egg rolls in said oven and set the
timer for 25 minutes. When I take them out they are thawed, warm and ready to
eat. Remember they were frozen when I started. Now, I put a peace of left over
chicken out of the fridge in the same oven for the same length of time. Of
course the chicken is not frozen so one would think the chicken would be hot as
hell but, it is not. Yes it is sort of warm but not exceptionally hot. I
suppose their is some thermodynamic theorem going on here and I just don't
understand. But then I don't understand Spanish either so go figure.

Subject: [VRStream] HumanWare Message - VR Stream and NLS Expanded
DownloadPilot

 Dear Victor Reader Stream Customer:

NLS has recently began accepting applications from its patrons who wish to
be part of an NLS expanded pilot project for downloading NLS digital
 talking
 books and
 magazines.

To be eligible for NLS audio book service you must be a resident of the
United States or be an American citizen living abroad who is unable to
 read
or use standard print materials as a result of a temporary or permanent
visual or physical limitation. Each individual must be certified first
before accessing the NLS audio book services.

To qualify for the expanded pilot project you must: 1) be an eligible NLS
patron registered for NLS service by your local library; 2) have a
 computer
and Internet connection to download and unzip the books; and 3) have a
player capable of playing the books. The Victor Reader Stream is able to
play the NLS books providing it is
authorized to do so by NLS.

There are 3 steps to the process to participate in the NLS expanded
 download
pilot and authorize your Victor Reader Stream to play NLS books and
 magazines.

Step 1 - Apply Online to NLS
To apply for participation in the NLS expanded pilot visit:
 https://www.NLSTalkingBooks.org/DTB
This page provides basic information about the NLS service and a link to
 the
application form. Once you complete this online application form, you
 will
immediately receive an email from NLS confirming that NLS has received
 the
application. If you are approved to participate you will receive a second
confirmation email with additional information. If there is a problem with
your application you will also receive a message explaining the problem.

A third NLS email will include a username, password, instructions for
participation, and how to obtain help.

Step 2- HumanWare will contact you
If NLS approves your application to the expanded download pilot, they will
 also notify HumanWare.
HumanWare will then contact you by email with a link to our web form where
you will need to supply your player serial number. Please do not try to
complete the web form until you receive our email as we will be unable to
 process your information.

Step 3 - Sending the NLS Authorization Key to You
After you complete the HumanWare web form HumanWare will respond within 2
working days with a second email. Attached to this email will be an NLS
authorization key file to install on your Stream. The email will contain
the installation instructions. After you install the key file, you will
 be
able to play NLS digital talking books and magazines.

To minimize any delays, please follow the steps in order, waiting on the
prerequisite emails from NLS and HumanWare, and read carefully all the
information and instructions in those emails.

 Thank you,
 The HumanWare Support Team

[BlindHandyMan] Friday night.

2007-09-07 Thread Phil Parr
Yes, we will gather tonight in the blind handyman room at for the people at
some where around mine eastern.
As a little side note, yesterday my wife, princess Luan Luan, purchased an I
phone. It may very well be the most blind unfriendly appliance in the world.
All functions are done by touching, tapping, or scratching on the screen.
Their may be a way but, I don't think I could even answer said phone if it
rang. I often find my self sitting in the truck while She has gone in to fetch
something, pay a bill, or do a little shop lifting and Her phone will
invariably ring. I'll have other information on this thought provoking subject
later or, as soon as I learn more.

Hope to see you tonight, Phil Parr.

[BlindHandyMan] Another battery question?

2007-09-07 Thread Phil Parr
Back a few months ago we did batteries to death I no, but I am still not
clear about a couple of things. Did some one say the charging process for
charging a nickel cadmium and a n m h battery is the same. only difference is
the charger knowing when the battery is fully charged.
Here is my dilemma. I have an appliance that originally came with nickel
cadmium batteries and I am using n m h batteries in it now. If I am careful can
I use the charger that came with the thing cause it is a lot of trouble to take
then out and do the charging in a stand alone charger.

   Thanks, Phil Parr.

[BlindHandyMan] Radio shack.

2007-07-07 Thread Phil Parr
I became aware many years ago of the radio shack policy to purposely
discontinue anything that could be construed as remotely useful to blind
persons. Whether this practice was deliberate or simply an oversight, pardon
the pun, we plebeians could never discern. However, it seemed that, if it
talked it would appear and then be discontinued by one's next visit to the
store.
With that in mind I bought a talking outdoor indoor thermometer each time I
found my self in radio shack. In an attempt to stock up before the inevitable
obsolescence I have five of them. Point being, the button lay out and their
functions was a great help.
I also have five of the little fold up things that just give the time and
temperature. What I am wondering, of course, is do you have a button
configuration for that also.

Well, it's Friday and so, shell we gather in the blind handyman room at

Had a small problem last week. One Girl thought everyone was talking to just

not how a chat room works. Anyway we can try again tonight. My wife brought me
a half gallon of Jack so, come help me drink it.

[BlindHandyMan] Tonight.

2007-05-25 Thread Phil Parr
We have a good friend who is a percussionist with the Boston symphony and He
and his new Girl friend are going to be in town this weekend. This evening we
are having a small swim party with them so, what I am trying to say is, I will
be in the room but I will probably be late. Also at the little gathering will
be my guitar playing friend who plays some with Ray Price and a friend of ours
who is an excellent fiddle player. I would imagine we will play music for a
couple of hours and then, who knows.
See you all in the blind handyman room over at for the people some time
tonight.

[BlindHandyMan] Shows this week, two.

2007-05-18 Thread Phil Parr
In my hurry to get the announcement done I forgot an important part of the

Our old friend Dale Campbell came over and stayed for the duration. We
talked extensively about the synthetic material He is considering using for his
new deck. All in all, I think a good show, give a listen when you have a

[BlindHandyMan] Batteries.

2007-04-18 Thread Phil Parr
I am sure you all remember my dilemma concerning the nickel cadmium
batteries that wouldn't take a charge. Why how could I even think you wouldn't
remember, parish the thought.
Anyway, I returned to radio shack the four that wouldn't take a charge and
was given four more with the same condition. Last Saturday I took the second
package back and ask, o dear, what could the matter be. The young fellow at the
shack informed me they had been having trouble with the batteries in question.
He determined that two of the batteries I returned were good and two were bad.
I was given four that according to them are all good so, time alone will tell.
Point is, why wasn't I informed of the problem when I brought the first ones
back. Or better then that, I should have been told at the time of the initial
perches.
It is this kind of thing and the fact that they charge around 4$ for a small
length of wire with two connecters on each end that brings me to this
conclusion. With in five years their will be no more radio shacks.

   Agree, or disagree, Phil Parr.

[BlindHandyMan] Tonight.

2007-04-13 Thread Phil Parr
I will half to miss the usual Friday night festivities their in the blind
handyman room at for the people, I got a better offer. Our nephew John three is
playing a baseball game down at what is called the woodlands just this side of
Houston proper. I won't be at the game however, no no, Phil will be in the
truck with the h d radio. I have this kind of rabbit ears looking antenna I am
going to set on top of the truck and, I can here all of the Houston stations
that have h d. One might think of this as sort of a scientific experiment of
sorts since this will be my first three hour session with h d radio. These
rabbit ears ar around six feet long so folks might wonder just what the hell I
am doing when they see them sitting on top of my truck.
Now, this kind of gets back to the blind thing about looking as normal as
possible around sighted persons. I can think of at least three people who would
like to be right their with me checking out h d radio. None of these folks have
an eye problem they ar just radio nuts like me.
By the way Max, at least one of the Houston a m stations is running h d so I
will get to here that for the first time.
You all have a fine time tonight and, think of me and, I will see you all
next Friday.
O, I almost forgot. On the way home we will stop at, well, I don't know just
where but, a fine restaurant for a fine meal, something we don't have here in
Lufkin.

[BlindHandyMan] Batteries.

2007-04-03 Thread Phil Parr
We probably have discussed this before on the list but I either wasn't
paying attention or maybe I was under the influence of alcohol.
Anyway, I have charges that will charge nickel cadmium, nickel meddle
hydride, and I think lithium batteries. I don't understand why one charger
won't charge all three. Aren't you just hitting them with d c current to charge
them. Also, isn't their even a newer and better type of battery then nickel
medal hydride.

   Thanks in advance, Phil Parr.

  Phil,

The best thing I have used is white lithium grease in a spray can. You can
get it in other forms also.

If it is a cheap door, you may not have adjustments unless you take off the
door, which you may have to do anyway, if its been years of not cleaning.
Some doors have holes with plugs that you can remove to adjust the rollers
  with a screwdriver.

actual surface of the head.

  Phil,

If you have one of the C-1 cassette players made by Telex and used as the
donor players from NLS, there is a very easy way to get to the heads. There is
a removable plate between the buttons and the cassette door. To remove it, you
will find a small square hole on each side of this plate. You can put a 1/8
screwdriver in each hole and gently pry the tab toward the center of the plate
and at the same time, lift up. Do this to each side of the plate and you will
have full access to the heads, capstan and guides. They can be cleaned with
isopropyl alcohol on a cotton swab.

On other small players, you just have to be creative about getting the swab
in there.

I think I ask this some time ago but never got a satisfactory answer so, here
we go again.
We all have a player from our cooperating library service, or have seen such
a player. My question concerns the cleaning of the heads and that dam door. If
one could get it to go up another couple of inches you could get to the heads
and properly give them an alcohol bath. Maybe in the next five or ten years we
won't be using that player but for now it is a problem.

All suggestions will be appreciated, Phil Parr.

[BlindHandyMan] Here is what I wanted.

2007-01-14 Thread Phil Parr
I thought their might be a trigger somewhere that would allow that door to
be released so one could really get at the heads and capstan. On most
commercial cassette machines you can remove the door for proper cleaning and
that is what I thought about these players. .

[BlindHandyMan] A little left over.

2007-01-05 Thread Phil Parr
After carefully examining my supplies I find their is some egg nog and jack
left from the holidays. While I can't read the sell by date on the nog I
probably need to use it soon. So, how about tonight around nine eastern on for
the people, in the blind handyman room, be their.

   Phil Parr.

[BlindHandyMan] Christmas.

2006-12-23 Thread Phil Parr
I don't do Christmas but, I love the music. With that in mind, I am going to
perform at the cabaret tonight on for the people. Maybe perform was the wrong
word, maybe sing would have been a better choice of words. Anyway, come on over
if you can.

As a general rule some of us gather in the blind handyman room over at for
the people on Friday nights and shoot the breeze for a while. If you never have
attended well, it is kind of like the Houston thing. I guarantee you won't
learn much but you might enjoy the conversation and general chatter.

See you tonight, around nine eastern, Phil Parr.

Just listened to Noah weather radio and the forecast for Houston thru next
Sunday is good. Looks like lows in the low fifties and highs around seventy.
As things shape up now Tom and I plus Don and Mary Shaw will be arriving
around one this Friday afternoon. Don will have a family band radio with Him
tuned to channel 12 code 0. My sell number is 9 3 6. 6 3 5. 4 7 0 0. If you
need assistance finding the groupe feel free to call either way.

[BlindHandyMan] A couple of things.

2006-10-26 Thread Phil Parr
About the Houston gathering, we may not be in the El Paso room. The room
they have us in is called the Galveston room. This is not set in cement yet, I
am still in a debate with the hotel about it so, stay tuned. If we are forced
to make the change the Galveston room is the next one down the same hall so,
really no problem.
At press time I am holding an announcement about another luminary who has
decided to join our little groupe but, as for now, my lips are sealed.
By the way, the seldom scored on, undefeated Lufkin panthers ar playing on e
s p n two this evening at six central.

   See you in Houston, Phil.

[BlindHandyMan] Houston.

2006-10-09 Thread Phil Parr
Here I have been wondering if anyone was coming to the little gathering and
dam if we didn't need to add rooms today.
The hotel says they will honor the 72$ rate as long as they have plenty of
rooms. I don't exactly no what that means but, if you are planning on coming I
would go ahead and make reservations as soon as possible.

   Phil Parr.

[BlindHandyMan] Friday the thirteenth.

2006-10-06 Thread Phil Parr
Well, it is coming up fast and I for one am ready. Actually, really not but
I will be.
Remember Friday the thirteenth is the last day the hotel has to garentee the
72$ room rate they gave us. I believe they might make an exception or two but
they don't half to. Point being, if you are coming make your reservations
before that day to avoid any problems.

Good time in November, Phil Parr.

[BlindHandyMan] Luan said.

2006-10-06 Thread Phil Parr
My wife Luan said I didn't explain that very well so, well, She is My wife
and She must be correct.

When all of this began back in January I ask that twenty rooms be set aside
for our little gathering. The hotel said they would give us a rate of 72$ for
that many rooms. They also stated that we must fill the room quota by a certain
date or they had the right to rent the remaining rooms at what ever rate they
wanted to. Our cut off date is next Friday the thirteenth and say we have 16
reservations by then. I must guarantee payment on the remaining four rooms or
relinquish them and allow the hotel to put them back in their rooms for rent.
Also at that time I must guarantee payment for the conference room we are using
or allow it to be possibly used by some one else.

Sure hope this explanation satisfies my wife and everyone else.

Good weather the first weekend in November in Houston, Phil Parr.

[BlindHandyMan] This is how I feel this morning.

2006-10-04 Thread Phil Parr
I wonder just how to say this with out sounding to bitchey, condescending,
or giving the impression I feel sorry for my self.
Let me state that, know one is more excited about the Houston gathering
then yours truly. I made the decision to do it last January and have been
buying collecting and putting aside things I will need since then. Stuff like,
special cords, audio adapters, compressors, mike mixers and such. I think I've
covered all bases with the hotel or at least I hope so. To date I've sent out
more then 200 e mails to persons from my address and phone book who might have
an interest in a thing like this. So far looks like we just might need all the
rooms I had the hotel set a side for us. They have assured me however, they
have plenty more if we need them.
Now, I will get to the point of this little diatribe. No, it hasn't been a
lot of work, know, it hasn't taken up to much time. What it has been is
stressful. Their have been a couple of posts on the list about missing this one
and maybe planning to attend next year. Let me be very blunt and say, their may
not be a next year. What I am saying is just this. Their may be some brave sole
or a committee who put together another gathering but, I won't try this by my
self again. We are going to have a hell of a fine time in Houston this year
and, if you want to see some of us in person I would come on down this time.
If you are planning to call me better wait tell after lunch. Surely I will
be over this little childish temper fit by then, or maybe not.

Hope to see you all in November, Phil Parr.

Re: [BlindHandyMan] What a sacrifice.

2006-09-22 Thread Phil Parr
discerned by now, this gathering or convention is
not about learning anything or expanding one's perspective. I suppose you
might

posit this weekend is for the making of new friends and comparing other
blind persons lives to yours. In short, let's all come to Texas in November,
enjoy

the wonderful weather and have a fun time.

O, lest I forget and you half to ask, the dog relief area has already
been arraigned for.

Well, I suppose it's time to talk money.

Last time we used a travel agent but for this one you will need to make
your reservations directly with the Sheraton. Phone number is,

 2 8 1. 4 4 2. 5 1 0 0.

Tel the person at the reservations desk you want to reserve a room with
the blind handyman gathering in November. As of today they should know what

you are talking about.

Rooms are 72$ per night plus tax, single or double, they don't care. You
will need a major credit card to secure your room however, nothing will be

charged to your card until you arrive on Friday the third to clame your
room.

If you plan to come as a single let me no and I will end ever to match
you with a room mate.

The registration fee is 25$ per person, 50$ per couple, this time, down
from 40 per person last year. I think we will have quite a few more people
this

year so we can spread the cost around some. As was decided last time, the
only way to pay the registration fee is, just send me a check. Yes I could
collect

the money after we arrive, but, know know, just send me a check. Pleas make
said check payable to blind handyman gathering, and send it to Phil Parr 16

04 Southwood drive Lufkin Texas 7 5 9 0 4. None of this money will be spent
until after the cut off date so, if for some reason you had to cancel I
would

refund your money. Our cutoff date for making reservations and registering
for the gathering is Friday October 13 2006. After that date the hotel will

no longer Guarantee the special room rate and, the registration moneys will
have been already ear marked for spending.

I am sure you all understand this but here I go anyway. You, and you
alone, are personally responsible for arranging your flight to Houston and
back

and transportation to and from your domicile. If you don't know how to make
these arrangements we can find someone to help you I'm sure.

Here are a few amenities offered by this hotel.

Both an indoor and out door pool.

Full work out and exercise facilities.

   Accelerated check out by phone.

   Tanning beds.

A spa and massage on demand.

Well, that got a little more involved then I thought it would.

I think I covered most everything but, if you think of something let me
know.

   Phone, 9 3 6. 6 3 4. 9 5 0 0

[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Now, this year you can't say you didn't know soon enough, start saving and
come on down and see us.

See you all in Houston in November, Phil Parr.

 Hi Phil,

Still trying to work it out.

Can you resend me the info for booking?

 At 02:46 PM 9/21/2006 -0500, you wrote:

I just got a call and an offer to open for Ray Price in Austin
on the forth of November. The Maier and Governor will declare it
Ray price day in Texas and their I could be on that stage, in that

people coming down to Houston for a little gathering.

Now, after that sacrifice don't you think the least you could do
is make those reservations, send in your fee and, arrange for your
 flight.

Phil, still shedding just a few tears, Parr.

[BlindHandyMan] O K, plan b.

2006-08-03 Thread Phil Parr
Alright, since none of you wimpy bastards would step up to the plate and
take on the coveted job of guest coordinator for the shows we are forced to go
to plan b. Although, before I give up let me point out all the benefits
bestowed upon one by accepting such a challenge.
You would of course be associated with the most listened to blindness
related shows on either radio reading services or the internet. There would be
a special exhibit in the blind handyman hall of fame with your picture and a
description of your life and work both in print and brail. and last but
certainly not least, thru special arrangement you would be aloud to ask Dan
Rossi up to four questions per year. And as if that weren't enough, and it dam
well should be I have a bonus for you. If you can keep a secret I might tell
you Boops real name. O well, I suppose some persons just don't know a good
thing when it comes their way.

Seriously, here is plan b. If you can think or know of some one whom you
think might make a good guest for either show could you pleas apprise us of
that persons contact information. As I said, locating guests for both shows is
an every week thing and, any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. We
know their are thousands yea, hundreds of thousands of blind people who would
make wonderful guests for the shows the question is how do we make contact with
them.
In total their are almost four hundred persons on both lists. Now I know,
some of us are on both so here is the point. If all of you sent us a potential
guest we would have enough for several years. o k, if you are on both lists you
must send two.

Part of this little post has just been in jest but, we really do need all
the help we can get.

   Thanks, Phil Parr.

P S, I apologize for calling you a wimpy bastard.

[BlindHandyMan] More about f t p.

2006-07-24 Thread Phil Parr
As we all know, sometimes things lose a little in the translation and so on
we go.

I couldn't agree more, the nickname thing is a bit childish and just plain
annoying at times. I am here on my turf so I feel free to say this. In some
cases I do find the management over their a little condescending at times.

However, by and large I think it is one of the best ideas I've seen for the
communicating of blind persons with one another. As most of you know, I am a
firm believer in the commingling of the blind world with the sighted. Still I
do think it is important for blind folks to know some others of their elk. Like
this list I have met some persons over their whom I believe to be well adjusted
blind people. ON the other hand, their are some who will probably never be able
to function in society. If you decide to join you will observe those who always
seam to be on the sight. One would assume for the people is their life. Nothing
wrong with that I suppose and your correct, I shouldn't be so quick to judge.
Anyway, come judge for your self, what the hell, it's free.

As for the adjusting of your microphone, their is a thing they call the loop
back room where you can here what you sound like before you ever talk on the
sight. The program that allows you to talk is called a chat client. Within that
chat client are mike adjustments for fine tuning your sound. IN the interest of
saving you a little time, the loop back location is the first thing you will
find in the general family rooms category.

Hope to see you their, Phil Parr.
