Re: [BlindHandyMan] Ambutek graphite canes?
They are similar but technically there is a difference. I have built a lot of golf clubs using graphite shafts, but only a few carbon fiber shafts. I couldn't give an accurate difference between the 2 types, because they are both light weight and obviously if you can put a steel head on the end of one and swing at over 100 MPH to hit a golf ball and the shaft doesn't break, they are very durable. If I was to guess, I'd say the graphite might be more flexible than carbon fiber. But that's a guess. Both are strong. - Original Message - From: Jerry Richer To: blindhandyman@yahoogroups.com Sent: Tuesday, March 23, 2010 8:24 AM Subject: Re: [BlindHandyMan] Ambutek graphite canes? Is graphite the same as carbon fiber? I bought two carbon fiber, two piece folding canes from NFB last Fall. They're great! The two halves are connected by an alastic cord but they're still very light and strong. I could even lean on them if needed or use them as a weapon. Only $10. Inexpensive when compared to their six piece telescoping carbon fiber canes for $35. Jerry [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Re: [BlindHandyMan] Ambutek graphite canes?
Al, Most recently I have been using their aluminum canes and of course before that I believe they pretty well all came from Europe, Swedish I think. It is just that when I opened the package it looked more or less like my aluminum canes although certainly the main shaft of each segment feels more like it might have been a thicker plasticated coating. Never having had one before now I just wondered if maybe I had been sent a fancy aluminum model. They do sell three or four models all of varying price. I have just received two of what are supposed to be Ambutek graphite folding canes. I have never met such equipment before now and hope someone on the list knows more about them than I. These appear to me to be metallic although the outer coating might well be something like graphite. The insertion points are very certainly metal, probably aluminum. Is this correct or did someone put the wrong equipment in the parcel? Thanks. Re: [BlindHandyMan] Ambutek graphite canes?
Hi Dale, Ambuteck uses aluminum ferrells (spelling) and a nylon ring at the joints. I think they are the best graffite cane out there. the tip is a nylon/teflon on that one and it runs on a bench snader test longer than the standard by about 2.5 times. tony russell at Ambuteck is a great guy and his assistant Donna is a peach. Best of luck and safe travels. On Mon, 22 Mar 2010, Dale Leavens wrote: > I have just received two of what are supposed to be Ambutek graphite folding > canes. Re: [BlindHandyMan] Ambutek graphite canes?
I have a graphite Ambutech folding white cane and it appears to have aluminum where the parts of the cane fit together. This aluminum doesn't run the full length of the cane. If it did the cane would be heavier and mine weighs a lot less than an all aluminum ambutech folding cane. The only thing I don't like about mine is; if you crack it, which I did, you can get some hellish carbon fiber slivers in your hands when unfolding it. - Original Message - From: Dale Leavens To: blindhandyman@yahoogroups.com Sent: Monday, March 22, 2010 8:33 PM Subject: [BlindHandyMan] Ambutek graphite canes?
