RE: [BlindHandyMan] water question

2010-01-12 Thread Joe Plummer
No I wouldn't drain the water. I would put a whole house filter on my house.
I would also put one on the kitchen and the bathroom sinks. This is just me.
I would see wat this did after putting it on. Giving it about two weeks to
get things filter out. By flushing the water heater you are just fixing
things temporally at the best.

doesn't include detremental effects of the reason I'm dumping and giving

well, there might be a short run of it.
Karen says it's the strongest in the kitchen, which is oddly the closest
to the main line, and secondary is the smallest bathroom, which is second
closest. I can't figure this out very well.

Re: [BlindHandyMan] water question

2010-01-11 Thread Max Robinson
If you run a glass of hot water it will look cloudy because of very tiny
bubbles resulting from dissolved air in the water. As the glass stands
undisturbed the cloudiness will begin to clear from the bottom as the
bubbles rise to the top and burst. After a couple of minutes the water will
be as clear as the cold water. If this does happen there is nothing you can
do about it. It's determined by the laws of physics. On the other hand, if
it doesn't clear as described then you have a problem.

Air dissolves more easily in hot water and also in water under pressure.
Combine the two and you can get a lot of dissolved air. After the pressure
is relieved and the water cools a little the dissolved air comes out of
solution in the form of tiny bubbles.

Here's a Carnac for you. Answer Don Hoe. Contents of envelope. I see
someone named Don on the horizon.

Regards.

Hmmm... I think it's 1957 copper. What effect comes with galvanized?
I am starting to think it's the remainder of taste from hot in the pipes
until cold is flushed. But I'll have to investigate.
What's the best use for all hat hot water heater flush so it's not 80 gal
totally wasted?
Washing machine for rags? I can't think of anything good. Too cold to
water the lawn, haha.

Wanted thoughts from more experienced persons.
Water company in his area, (big city Philadelphia) says all from 6 feet
prior to the main valve is *your problem* and didn't want to pay a plumber
if there was info on a list of great guys; which as before could lead me
to knowledge or solution.
Thanks much.

Re: [BlindHandyMan] water question

2010-01-11 Thread spiro

RE: [BlindHandyMan] water question

2010-01-11 Thread Tom Hodges
I haven't followed this thread completely, but it has been going on for
quite a few messages. Maybe I missed this but If you have a problem with
your electrical service, you call the electric company. If you have a
problem with your phone service, you call the phone company. Unless you're
on a cistern or a water well, why don't you just call the water company?
Anyway, just curious about why someone would spend so much time trying to
fix a problem that you are already paying someone else to maintain.

Did I miss something on this thread about this? Thanks, but just curious.

I don't know. Maybe the city done something? What does the water taste like?
Try to give me a example? A water filter might still be your best bet.

None of this is easy done. Can it be done yes. That old of water heater
especially if it is electric would do more harm than good. It will more than
likely break causing you to have to buy another one. My recommendation is a
whole house water filter. This will fix your present problem but want fix
the pipes or water heater. Also a second water filter on your bathroom
lavatories and your kitchen sink and one on your refrigerator, if you have a
ice maker or ice and water thru the door. This is just me what I would do.

My female cohabitants have been noticing the following concerns with the

cloudy hot, musty smelling and tasting cold.
I may have noticed that the other day.
We haven't drained he hot water tank ever, twenty years, and I plan on it.
