Re: [BVARC] Please explain this end fed antenna

Ok you hang the balun on the mast and string the wire to a tree? To work 20
meters, you’d have a 20 meter wire? Does that sound plausible?

To me, it sounds like this is written by someone who doesn't understand
antennas or that English is their second or third language.

It is a typical EFHW descriptionSo who is the manufacturer or the seller?
 Sounds commercial, not home brew.

Thanks for the suggestions. What I want to do is have a couple of wireless mics
- one for the presenter and one for the person on the podium. I think that will
help with the audio.

[BVARC] Meeting audio

2024-04-12 Thread John Parmalee via BVARC
Mike, I live a couple of counties north of your meeting fire station. I
have come down a couple of time but it is a long drive home and with the
random violence that seems to be occurring randomly after dark I prefer to
come to the meetings via zoom. This despite the offer of free food which I
heard was pretty good.

The video is a bit sketchy but what is difficult is the audio. It is loud
enough but the rumble in the room makes it difficult to understand. The
lack of a close microphone.

Could I suggest that there be a microphone or two dedicated close to the
speakers each and a mixer maned by some on with headphones on listing to the
mix. A cameraman watching a monitor would be nice too but an hearing
improvement would be golden.

Re: [BVARC] Want to point

Well actually - this will be during the evening and night. I want to
actually shine a laser at the satellite so I can see where it is. The
onboard computers and compass will do all the pointing (AZ/El) by motors
and compass to keep true to heading and elevation.

I can’t speak for Gpredict, but when we’re using SatPC32, there is an
additional application called SUM, for Sun and Moon, that will track the SUN or
the MOON, so you can check and calibrate your system against.

So put on your Eclipse glasses, and line the antennas up with the sun, or wait
till later in the day and line it up with the moon.

Hope that helps,

Walter/K5WH

Subject: [BVARC] Want to point

I am designing a satellite PT mount for my satellite antenna. I know about not
pointing lasers at airplanes and I do NOT plan on that.

But what I am looking for is what pointer they use to show stars in the sky. I
want to use Predict and track Comm Satellite automatically. But what I also
want to do is point it out as the unit pans.

I am going to use a Yagi and mount it on top of that. I plan on having a 12v
battery to drive the unit. I also am going to use a .9 step angle motor with
57oz hold power. So the unit can not be very heavy. I also plan on using about
3 amp - 5 amps, for safety, say 8 amps with onboard computers and drivers. I
plan on using shielded cable in the antenna and to the radio. The frequencies
are from 137mhz to 440mhz.

I hope that is enough info to give me an idea.

And thoughts?

[BVARC] Another question...

Has anyone ever bought a slip ring for antennas and what do you recommend?
I am making this rotator and realized that after 3 spins, the coax gets
caught on the legs and trips the base.
Details: 50w max, 137 - 440mhz, at least 20 feet away.

Again ... Any thoughts?
