[Callers] NEFFA 75th Choreography Contest Dances
Here are the entries for the NEFFA 75th Contra Contest. Thanks again to all of you who submitted dances. The dances are presented as written, mostly unedited. [Callers] Neffa 75th contra winner
The winner of the Neffa 75th Contra Choreography Contest is Diamonds Are For Neffa, written by Chris Page. The judges feel that his dance has good flow, is suitable for the NEFFA audience, and includes very NEFFA-appropriate inter-set allemandes and a celebratory diamond. Even the title is clever. We honor Chris for this wonderful contribution to the NEFFA tradition. Congratulations! Thanks to the many people who submitted dances. There were 21 entries, with only one repetition of title (Diamond Jubilee). Bob Isaacs and I had fun trying out the dances in various parts of the country. Choreography for all of the submissions will be posted after the Festival. Bob will call the winning dance at the Festival’s 75th Dance Bash on Saturday, April 13. We hope that many of you will be there to help us celebrate. [Callers] Neffa 75th cotra choreography contest
NEFFA 75th Contra Contest To help NEFFA celebrate our Diamond Jubilee, we hereby open up the NEFFA 75th Anniversary Contra Choreography Contest. The winning dance, as judged by Bob Isaacs and Lisa Greenleaf, will be called by Mr. Isaacs at the Festival's celebration dance on Saturday, April 13. Besides fame and glory, the winner will also be awarded a Neffa T shirt. We are looking for a contra dance with good story line and flow, and would prefer to have a mostly equal-action dance with good movement for everyone, although we will entertain submissions that favor the ones, or that alternate between the ones and twos. Contra Choreography Parameters: -The title must reflect Neffa somehow, and perhaps the 75th -32 bars long -Contra formation -Intermediate skill level: commonly-used figures, moderate piece count, and nothing too complicated out of the minor set -Good flow -Limit three submissions per person -Deadline is Feb 15, 2019 -Do not need to be at the Festival to win Send your clearly worded and annotated-as-necessary submissions to Lisa Greenleaf at neffacon...@yahoo.com (or you can reply to this email; just don’t hit reply all). Don’t delay—get crackin’! Lisa Greenleaf ___ List Name: Callers mailing list List Address: Callers@lists.sharedweight.net Archives: https://www.mail-archive.com/callers@lists.sharedweight.net/

[Callers] NEFFA Dance ID
Can any of you help me identify a dance that we danced during the last NEFFA session on Sunday? The dance in question was called with the Festival Orchestra playing and it may have been called by Sue Rosen. The key figures were 2 "past through to an ocean wave" figures. In one case you end with your neighbor in your right hand, and the other time you end with your partner in the same place. The dance flowed very smoothly and i liked it a lot, so any help with the title, author, or the choreography would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rich Hart.

In years past, there has been an unofficial spot in the bleachers of the main hall. In Natick, it was the bleachers to the left of the stage when you were facing them. I'll print out a tasteful SharedWeight sign and tape it to the wall in the High School dance hall as a gathering point in the bleachers. Maybe people can write something on their nametags so we can know each other? (SW?) Otherwise, just introduce yourselves! [Callers] Neffa workshop
I've been asked to let folks know that I'll be repeating my contra tune discussion/workshop at Neffa, but this time it will be geared towards musicians. I'll also be joined by Jaige Trudel and Adam Broome from Crowfoot. This is a good opportunity for callers and musicians to learn about choosing tunes for contras, and how different kinds of tunes affect dancers. I'll have pre-recorded examples, and I expect Jaige and Adam will contribute a few riffs of their own. The workshop is called "Bands and Contra Tunes" and is Sunday at 1PM in High School Room 103. See you soon at Neffa, -- Lisa

[Callers] NEFFA fun
Hi Everyone who was at NEFFA, It was very fun getting to meet many of you in person. I think it worked well to have a couple of options and different times for gatherings. Aside from the great dancing and getting to call, my favorite part about NEFFA is getting to meet and talk with other callers. It's one of the few times I get to even DANCE with caller friends -- Jeremy Korr and I had our first dance, had to go to Boston to do it, even though we are both in California! It was also an amazing experience to cheer on the other callers before and after everyone called their gigs/ spots. It was great comraderie and not often that we can all be there to support friends; as we're usually off at seperate locations, calling dances. Even the sound engineer in the Main Hall said to me on the stage while I was calling "wow, you have your own cheering section"! when my caller friends clapped, cheered and smiled from the bleachers when I "saved" my second dance... I also enjoyed how easy it was to find people. Most were either in the Main Hall, the Lower Hall, or hanging out in the cafeteria, which we did a lot of. So wonderful to just have some time to sit with each other, talk and exchange ideas, share learnings. I took a few pictures which I'll hope to post, with other's permission. But I probably won't get to that until 1 - 2 weeks. Thanks again, and hope to see at Pinewoods, for those that are going. I'm interested! I'll be there from Friday through Sunday, will have to miss the Thursday dance, alas, unless I decide to forego sleep which I may well do! I'll need to take a closer look at the schedule, so much good stuff, that I'm sure we all don't want to miss. Please let me know if anyone else is interested, I will also be at the Thursday nite Springstep dance, so pls say HELLO.
