Hello Lopo,

that is true. For us we have a direct requirement - there is a ERP needed.
So I have also looked for free and open source ERP system and found some (
But your list is really nice). For the first step I planned to go the quite
easiest way: Use an ERP system with the same technical conception: PHP and
Mysql. Aim: to scratch up interfaces. Next would be integration of other ERP
system and to find standardized interfaces.

You mentioned that the ERP system should not even integrated to care2x. Yes
and no. typically answer from accounting people I would say:-). The
usability, the user acceptance is really important. So it should have a
feeling of integration. These psychological aspects are important by the
acceptance of the software and of the user - who have the feeling just to
use a web application and not a really stupid complex ERP system like SAP.
Risks of staff making mistakes in reason of having fear of -seeming- complex
software is higher than using a ERP system what not fulfil each requirement
but can be added later.

Hi all,

My modest opinion on this is that Care2x should have a plugin that would
allow external access to data to the
billing applications, some sort of SOAP or even based on XHP server that is
already there.

Making modules for external ERP packages to talk to Care2x would be a better
idea and would require a small branch to coordinate that.

Many entities have their own billing application and fiscal and taxation
policies are too diferent from
country to country that you don't have a real FOSS application that can do
it all without a lot
of tweakning. There are already several F/OSS ERP/CRM packages (
http://www.principiolegal.com/software/erpcrm.php
http://www.principiolegal.com/software/erpcrm.php) and each entity should be
able to choose it freely.

Also, billling staff in most hospitals are not even related with operating
staff so they don't even need to deal with this. They just need to have
acess to costumers, exams, medicines and other medical events and
prices don't need or even should be inside Care2x (although it could have
eventually access with plugins).

Tightly integrating an ERP with Care2x will bloat it more and will force
many to hardcode it out.

In Portugal all national state hospitals and public institutions must use a
special kind of fiscal policy that is diferent from private sector and even
diferent from local autorities; so two hospitals (one private and one
public) will have huge problems with a tightly integrated ERP.
SimpleInvoice is neat but completely useless in our fiscal environment here.

Just my opinion.

Lopo

Re: [Care2002-developers] Care2x and SimpleInvoice Integration

2007-07-05 Thread steve

If an entity has a considerable number of hospitals, possibly the government, possibly an entity that owns considerable other "business", then they could be forced to use whatever ERP they use.

Not having ERP available could very well mean double work and significant error. Without ERP Care2x is an autonomous systemthat demands extensive manual work by the hospital in order to bill, get paid and accountor a full amount of customized workin order to have even billing, let alone ERP. HavingERP available offersa "complete" solution.

Sosome entities will needERP and some would seem not to want or need. Also, as with many other projects, their resources and knowledge are focused on the main work of the project, as should be. Therefore I would suggest "interfacing" will be much better than "integrating". In this way, the project is not forced to commit to a particular ERP,offers the least impactandis not saddled with somehow keeping up with integrating upgrades...good luck with that!

Interfacing is a much bigger challenge than integrating, however, when done right it offers the greatest ongoing flexibility and the least interference to the project.

Hi,

We also integrated an invoice system. It is not kissed by css or AJAX, it is
more focused on functional design.

But the handling could be difficult. When there is a invoice system in my
eyes, there should be a minimum of paper and double work. All information
what should be shown in a invoice are still in the system and there is no
reason that the billing officer has do to double work by selecting the
correct patient or selecting the items what should be paid.

We decided to integrate it on one more abstraction layer: Who can say that
the patient can afford it, which makes the guarantee that there is no
patient running away without paying. So there should be also a tiny
accounting system who should point the payment to “self pay”, “insured” and
some more accounts.

That is for this time running well, accounting is quite more abstract. Also
we thought to integrate another third party product what covers all these
accounting and stock issues. We focused now webERP as a possible solution
for that.

We should also know that the requirements of accounting almost different.
And when there is a software integration on a European hospital a typically
competitor to care2x is Siemens or SAP.

There is almost a quite small frontier between the software for hospital’s
work and for stock and accounting.

I think first of all we need a list of requirements what we should agree
that this software should fulfil. When we are starting at the most difficult
part, accounting, we have all focused to us – it is the most interesting
part for hospitals. What do you think of redesign of existing care2x and
bringing up some interfaces to different accounting systems?

adding more than 4 items into a bill?

I have thought of integrating another open source project for the billing

into Care2x. I have been using it for sometime now and it looks promising. I
still have to find a way to make it pull appropriate data such as
customers=patients, etc. It think it would be able to handle billing for
pharmaceutical items too since it has a nice inventory system and reporting
too.

Any suggestions Robert?

In the drop down list of Customer Name... e.g. we have 40.000 registered
patients. Does it is not really heavy to use in that way? (We choose a quite
more simple way: When there is a patient got any service of the hospital

is a kind of quotation list for all these patients got any service, even
when there are now discharged - out of that kind of quotation you could make
an invoice.

When we merge the workflow and the nice front end maybe that could be a
really nice system at the end... what do you think?

That is true. That is what integration is suppose to achieve, to reduce
double work and increase efficiency.
Please discuss with Claudio about including your work in following releases
instead of just leaving them in a separate
branch. I know that your work is more focused on Tanzania hospital
environment but if both of you discuss the
pros and cons, your solutions might be generic enough for the main releases.

Re: [Care2002-developers] Care2x and SimpleInvoice Integration

2007-07-03 Thread Robert Meggle
Hi jENELLE,

Exactly, you got the point. Accounting is really complex and if you try to
cover all the common requirements of a hospital you will have an ERP system.
My idea was to cover all these requirements by a other product and just
implement interfaces. These interfaces could be either standardized XML
messages or a transfer table.. but the “foreign” ERP system should be able
to read it.

This idea comes up by visiting a hospital in east Africa. The main stock is
different from the hospital stock and the work of this main stock is more
and less an administrative layer. On the same layer you will find also the
accounting with all these accounts for salary, purchasers and much more of
accounting tasks.

Idea was to focus the care2x development to the work on the hospital itself
and outsource the accounting to products what is made for. But we also
integrated a invoice system, just for the common daily work with
outpatients. So there will be always cash flow, even when there is a
parallel working ERP system at backend.

We started to integrate this part of stock and accounting and recognized
that this is really hard work, hard work still done by e.g. webERP what
could be easily adapt to care2x because it is based on apache, php and
mysql.

I've been checking out WebErp and it seems that its quite complicated
indeed.

But this is what we have in mind, complete the billing module for Care2x
(including billing capabilities for pertinent pharmacy, billing dept,
laboratory, diagnostics, etc.), then start interfacing WebErp from there? I
think WebERP does not need to be 'aware' of everything Care2x does, i think
it just needs to be aware of the financial data generated by the relevant
departments and modules?

Thanks,

Hi,

As per responses, I guess the best temporary way would be to implement a
Billing module which would also compose of reporting functions which would
generate the necessary data Accountants would need, and then implement a
separate WebERP application on the same host accessible only by accountants.
The accountants would then be able to input the data into WebERP?

Once the link between WebERP and Care2x has been made, we could probably
import the necessary data from the old WebERP into the new and integrated
WebERP?

Thanks,

into Care2x. I have been using it for sometime now and it looks promising. I
still have to find a way to make it pull appropriate data such as
customers=patients, etc. It think it would be able to handle billing for
pharmaceutical items too since it has a nice inventory system and reporting
too.

Any suggestions Robert?

Thanks,

jENELLE

 Hi Carers,

If i may, i would like to take this opportunity to
share with you all certain details pertaining to
 Care2x billing module.

I have been able to integrate care2x with
SimpleInvoice (another open source project at
http://www.simpleinvoices.org/). I would also like to
place my appreciation and special thanks to the
simpleinvoices team and more specifically to
Mr.Nicolas Ruflin and Justin. Their contact details
are given below for your reference and you could feel
free to contact them for any other queries related to
 SimpleInvoice.

 Mr. Justin
 [EMAIL PROTECTED]

This is a very simple integration and in my opinion is
a very good replacement to ecombill. If you are
interested, please take a look at the demo at
 www.softants.com/his (userid:demo, pwd:pass).

I am just in the process of putting together a very
simple documentation and shall be ready by the
week-end to post the same. Once when that is ready, i
could post the source code and the documentation to
this forum or as per the advise of the moderator.

Care2x is a great project and i am committed to
contribute much more than the current one. A brief on
 my agenda...

 1. I am exploring to rework the Lab module to
something similar to Bika Labs which is ISO 17025
ready. I could not integrate Bika Labs since it is
 under Plone/Zope.

 2. I am exploring options to include a dicom viewer
 which has an inbuilt ecgviewer.

 3. I have a data model for pharmacy which i am
planning to incorporate within care2x which includes
 billing of its own.

 4. I have been following discussions on the new
generation of care2x and in my opinion considering
rubyonrails and spring framework would be worth the
 while.

I would also like to place my special thanks to the
community for the initiatives and more specifically to
Elpidio Latorilla for intitiating this project in the
 first place.

 Regards

It's not a problem. I have an AJAX for 765.000 terms. The dropdown
organizes the information alphabetically first, then shows the first 25
results. It's quite fast when you index the data on MySQL.
Best,

 Hi Robert,

I think that dropdown on the customers will also become troublesome
when you have more than a couple of entries. Bala, would it be
possible to create a search field for it instead? Another question
Bala, how do we go about adding more than 4 items into a bill?

I have thought of integrating another open source project for the
