Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Gatekeeper 4 Digit call

2010-06-11 Thread Roger Källberg
Hi,
Ash already made a really good explanation of what they do, but this is a Cisco
statement regards to these commands that I got from one of my study mates
during my preparation,

"Calls placed through a Cisco Unified Border Element may fail to connect when
the originating or terminating H.323 device is a non-Cisco IOS VoIP device such
as Cisco Unified Communications Manager.
The default behavior of H.323-to-H.323 calls through a Cisco Unified Border
Element is to delay sending a H.225 Connect message to the originating H323
device until the H245 TCS/MSD/OLC negotiation takes place. During this process,
an H.225 Connect message with an H.245 address present from the terminating
H.323 device is changed to an H.225 Progress message, followed by an H.225
Facility message with the embedded H.245 address. This can cause connection
failures if the originating H.323 device is waiting for the H.225 Connect
message to begin the H245 TCS/MSD/OLC negotiation.
The h225 connect-passthru command is used to immediately pass H.225 connect
messages from the trunking gateway to the outgoing gateway via a Cisco Unified
Border Element.
Configuring the h225 connect-passthru command in H.323 voice-service
configuration is recommended for all calls passed through the Cisco Unified
Border Element. This command option will be present only when the
allow-connections command is configured.
This command is often configured with the h245 passthru tcsnonstd-passthru
command and emptycapability command when interworking is configured between
non-Cisco IOS H.323 devices."

This lines summarize and explain the above pretty good

1. the remote phone is picking up . and sending an "H225 connect message"
back to the CUBE.
2. The CUBE by default is not sending the H225 connect message back to the HQ
phone because it is waiting for the H245 negotiation to take place.
3. The CUBE changes the H225 connect message to a progress message, followed by
an H225 facility message and sends to the HQ phone.
4. The HQ phone is waiting for the H225 connect message to begin the H245
negotiation.

Best of luck

Write down of my strategy going in to the lab.

My strategy was to first put every question and the points on one of the scrap
papers, even before I read the lab. I then crossed of each off these when I had
configured it and most important verified that it
work as requested. This was very much like Pushkar have written in his
excellent blog,

http://pushkarbhatkoti.wordpress.com/category/ccie-voice-lab-strategies/.
Thank you Push for that very helpful post.
Then I read trough the entire lab, but just browsed trough the dial-plan
section, to see if there were anything in it that I needed to take into
consideration in the other section.
Then my strategy was this:

·
Do everything with infrastructure, including basic VGW config (incoming call
and outgoing emergency service call. I also included basic setup of CUE in to
this section.

·
Do QoS for both campus and wan. I didn’t really stick 100% to this, but that
was my intension going in to it. I did some of the next bullet point before
QoS, like media and SRST.

·
Configure everything, but the dial plan. This included every customisation of
the phones, setup off VM, SRST, media, and every other think that has to do
with applications and so on.
My goal was to finish this by lunch, I didn’t quite manage that, I needed about
1-1½ hours after the break to finish this.
Next part of my strategy was this:

·
Configure dial-plan question by question, paying special attention to what the
question asked for when it comes to type of number and number plan. I verified
all along when I configured, shutting down the primary path if that was the
case,
and testing the backup path. I then redid the test of the primary path after I
had brought that up again, just to see that it still worked.
Yet again I had a goal with this section and that was to finish the dial-plan
with 1-1½ hours to spare. This time I planned to have used for going over each
of the questions once more and marking them of on
the scrap paper one more time. But because of that I didn’t manage to stick
to my pre lunch game plan I ended up configuring right to the very end off my
lab. When the proctor announced that it was five minutes left
I was just about wrap up my last dial plan question. Last thing I did was to
verify that all ISDN links were in the up state, saved my switch and router
config’s for the last time and then I removed all my text files that I had
stored on the desktop. In the
end I had 1-2 minutes to spare, luckily it ended up to be just enough to pass.

Thank you everyone that have congratulated me.

I also want to thank Vik, Amy and Mark for there hard work with the update of
the material after the update of the blueprint last year. You guys rock.

Apart from this I would like to send a special thanks to my study mates,
Matthew Berry, Patrick Fischer, Vishal Preenja, Jody Marshall and Sean
Hurricane. Your help was invaluable and a
 monumental help in my preparation.

Regards

The reason I ask is, wouldn't unchecking the H.245 TCS on the Trunk
resolved the ringback issue?

This is an issue where the CUBE waits in H225_WAIT_FOR_H245
status for the initiating h323 GW (CUCM) to do h245 negotiation
while CUCM on other hand is waiting for H225 connect message and hence
the deadlock. Besides adding what Roger hinted below, I would also go
ahead and uncheck "wait for h245 TCS at GK Trunk".

Just responding for the archives:

Interface Vlan400 was up | down. I had shut down the phones connected to
the BR2 ESW and never brought them back up. This put Vlan400 in up |

Doing a no shut on one of the BR2 phones (fa0/3/0 or 0/3/1) brought the
Vlan400 up | up, and the X-Lite registered immediately. :)

Subject: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] X-Lite SIP Client not registering to BR2 CME

I've noticed some odd behavior the last few weeks with my X-Lite SIP
client (BR2 Ph4, DN 3006; using software VPN to connect to the vRacks).

The X-Lite SIP client doesn't seem to want to register to the CME. It
comes up with the error "Registration error 408 - Request Timeout" on
the display.

The only other time I've hit this symptom was a couple of months ago,
when I and a few other folks hit the IP addressing issue discussed in
this thread:

http://www.mail-archive.com/ccie_voice@onlinestudylist.com/msg16149.html

Since then I've been careful to run this "fix" on the HQ and BR2 routers
before each lab, and none of the other symptoms mentioned in that thread
have occurred.

But the "Registration error 408 - Request Timeout" has popped up again
for the last few weeks.

Different pods, too: twice on pod 14 and twice on pod 12.

As per another archive thread, I removed "type 7960" from the voice
register pool 2 - didn't help. Have reloaded the router, no create prof
/ create prof (all the usual fixes).

No issues with the BR2 SCCP (IPblue) softclient.

Searched the archives and the Web but no further hits. Any ideas?

cheers, sd

2010-06-11 Thread Steve Denney (stdenney)
By the way - This fix had the added bonus of also fixing my "X-Lite SIP
Client not registering to BR2 CME" issue from earlier.

Amazing how much stuff breaks when the Vlan is down...sheesh :)

You will need to add the tech prefix 1 for these calls (as you were doing)

then for calls from ucm to ucme let say from 2001 to 4001 add the following:

zone prefix GK 4 GW-PRiority 10 CUCME
zone prefix GK 4 GW-PRiority 0 GK_Trunk_1

I'm assuming that you have the correct route pattern, css and dial-peer
configuration on ucm and ucme.

- Second: after that explain a littel bit more your cube call (scenarion number
dialed, etc)

Hi Dani,

Have you looked in the terminating gw, with deb voip dialpeer, do you see if
the call reaches the CME box? To route the call to the end point in CME and in
the UCM you need to remove the tech prefix. This can be done with either voice
translation rule or num-exp on the CME and with a TP on the UCM. Just make sure
that this TP is in a PT that only the GK can see in it's incoming CSS. This is
not strictly needed, just makes it a lot easier to troubleshoot if needed.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] I passed CCIE Voice (# 26199)

2010-06-11 Thread Roger Källberg
Write down of my strategy going in to the lab.

My strategy was to first put every question and the points on one of the scrap
papers, even before I read the lab. I then crossed of each off these when I had
configured it and most important verified that it work as requested. This was
very much like Pushkar have written in his excellent blog,
http://pushkarbhatkoti.wordpress.com/category/ccie-voice-lab-strategies/. Thank
you Push for that very helpful post.
Then I read trough the entire lab, but just browsed trough the dial-plan
section, to see if there were anything in it that I needed to take into
consideration in the other section.
Then my strategy was this:

· Do everything with infrastructure, including basic VGW config
(incoming call and outgoing emergency service call. I also included basic setup
of CUE in to this section.

· Do QoS for both campus and wan. I didn’t really stick 100% to this,
but that was my intension going in to it. I did some of the next bullet point
before QoS, like media and SRST.

· Configure everything, but the dial plan. This included every
customisation of the phones, setup off VM, SRST, media, and every other think
that has to do with applications and so on.
My goal was to finish this by lunch, I didn’t quite manage that, I needed about
1-1½ hours after the break to finish this.
Next part of my strategy was this:

· Configure dial-plan question by question, paying special attention to
what the question asked for when it comes to type of number and number plan. I
verified all along when I configured, shutting down the primary path if that
was the case, and testing the backup path. I then redid the test of the primary
path after I had brought that up again, just to see that it still worked.
Yet again I had a goal with this section and that was to finish the dial-plan
with 1-1½ hours to spare. This time I planned to have used for going over each
of the questions once more and marking them of on the scrap paper one more
time. But because of that I didn’t manage to stick to my pre lunch game plan I
ended up configuring right to the very end off my lab. When the proctor
announced that it was five minutes left I was just about wrap up my last dial
plan question. Last thing I did was to verify that all ISDN links were in the
up state, saved my switch and router config’s for the last time and then I
removed all my text files that I had stored on the desktop. In the end I had
1-2 minutes to spare, luckily it ended up to be just enough to pass.

Hurricane. Your help was invaluable and a monumental help in my preparation.

you generally use them if you are doing NTP authentication and using ACL to

Doesn't hurt to add but technically they are not required.

(Disadvantage : windows time does not seem to sync up since only app

I believe it depends on your location, but normally they walk you to a
local Cisco cafeteria with a voucher for your lunch (up to a certain
price).

During lunch are we stuck in the lab area or can we go and buy?

I ve had the exact same problem couple of days back.
You can fix it by changing the smtp domain name in ucon and rebooting it.

This looks like a limatition/problem of cuc smtp server to send the full domain

configuration is adding the following at CUE side:

network location id "666"
 email domain cisco.lab
 name "fake"
 end location

This way messages are accepted and working in both directions

Any idea would be apreciated

Which way would you go ?

- Configure NTP on the UCCX app itself during Integration. (Faster & Seems

Any ideas?

cheers, sd

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] VPIM problem

2010-06-11 Thread Angel Perez

Hi:

I've the following DNS configuration:

cue->  cue.cisco.lab

cuc->  cuc.cisco.lab (ip address 150.200.30.13)

Both cue and cuc have properly dns address and domain configured

Cue config:

network location id "440"
 email domain cue.cisco.lab
 name "cue"
 end location

network location id "330"
 email domain cuc.cisco.lab
 name "cuc"
 end location

network local location id 440

Cuc config:

-smtp server addres cuc.cisco.lab

-vpim location added for cue (440)

-converstion manager reloaded

-smtp server reloaded

-remote users added (to dial by number to remote ext)

-If I check cuc user I can see: hq2 @ cuc.cisco.lab (extension 6002)

-Also I reloaded the box

At this point I can send vpim messages from cue to cuc but when I try to send
it in the opposite direction (cuc to cue) I get this error on cue:

cue# show trace buffer tail
Press to exit...

4402 06/11 20:14:05.584 netw smtp 2

10444 06/11 20:14:05.697 netw smtp 6 MAIL FROM:: QUIT
10444 06/11 20:14:05.698 netw smtp 5 221 closing channel

Although everything looks like it is configured correctly on CUC the smtp
address I'm reciving at CUE is @ cisco.lab instead of @ cuc.cisco.lab, so CUE
is rejecting the message

This looks like a limatition/problem of cuc smtp server to send the full domain
name to CUE the only workaround i have found to make this work with this dns
configuration is adding the following at CUE side:

network location id "666"
 email domain cisco.lab
 name "fake"
 end location

This way messages are accepted and working in both directions

Any idea would be apreciated

Thanks

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] X-Lite SIP Client not registering to BR2 CME

2010-06-11 Thread Steve Denney (stdenney)

Any ideas?

cheers, sd

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Better Voice Lab Locations

2010-06-11 Thread Rogers Ochieng
Lunch at the lab is traditional lunch break where one gets to eat not the
modern lunch which has become a time period. It's paid for in your $1400,
that's why we say you get to have a very expensive lunch if you don't pass
the lab.

OK, this might work. But another part of the task is providing this information
to the customer. The task is vague about this - how would you do this?

2010/6/11 Mouhammad Nasser

Hi Kobel,

In the "Get Reporting Statistic" step, one can retrieve the number of total
contacs in queue, which is defined as:

" Number of total contacts since the statistics were last reset for this CSQ "

But I didn't try it before, so I am not sure if one can choose which CSQ to
retrieve information about, or we have to:

- apply select resource (with no connect)

- Retrieve the required statistics

- dequeue the call from that queue

and repeat the above till all informatoin is available

Hello Angel

Thanks a lot for this it has worked by configuring IOS MTP.

May I ask you if call transfers worked fine for you as well?

In my setup call transfers are not working properly. If for instance I send a
call from a CME phone to a CUCM phone then press transfer, the CME phone
remains on hold after call is completed with the transfer-to party. The only
way to complete transfer is by pressing hold twice on the CME phone. Anyone
got call transfers to work perfectly? Same behaviour seen with Supervised or
Blind xfer.

Hello all

After completing lab 2 of volume 2 Gatekeeper section I found the following
behaviour when testing call hold between phones registered to CUCM and CME
respectively:
By saying successful I mean the ability to place call on hold and resume
Calls from CUCM phones bound for CME phones placed on hold by either CUCM or
CME phones are successful
Calls from CME phones bound for CUCM phones placed on hold by CUCM phones are
not successful. The problem manifestates as not allowing me to resume the call.
Same scenario but pushing hold from a CME phone is successful.

With this scenario in mind the following was done:
MTP required checkbox in trunk is checked and added to MRL of trunk's device
pool and the trunk page itself, software MTPs and Hardware IOS xcoders

While testing with these Media Resources configured show perf query class
counters were not incrementing at all when I pushed hold on the CUCM phone - I
was expecting to see MTP usage once pushing the hold.button - Am I right to
expect it to happen? show sccp connections did not show anything either as I
thought that the xcoder was being used instead.

In addition, wait for TCS on trunk were unchecked and outbound faststart was
also configured as last resort to see if any difference could be seen in
behaviour.

this resources are not available for your trunk/phones.

Also be sure that in the trunk/phones mrgl the ios mtp rosource is above other
ucm software resources.

Then place a call, press hold and verify with sh sccp con

Subject: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] CME CUCM call hold problems

In addition, wait for TCS on trunk were unchecked and outbound faststart was
also configured as last resort to see if any difference could be seen in
behaviour.

rebooting servers did not help either.

Anyone experienced this?

Cheers

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] UCCX reporting

2010-06-11 Thread Mouhammad Nasser

HTH
