[OSL | CCIE_Voice] Changing your exam date

2012-08-29 Thread Paul Kruger
Hey guys,

Not sure if this has ever been asked. I'm sure there is a policy that
states you can't, but has anyone ever tried to move their lab date within
the 3-month cut-off period? Just found out I need to be traveling on
business around the time my lab is scheduled for.

Do I have a shot at asking pretty please, move it out by a week, or am I
down $1500?

Thanks,
Paul

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Question regarding dialing NATIONAL calls outside the U.S.

2012-08-10 Thread Paul Kruger
It definitely differs from country to country, but in the lab, or any
practice lab, it should tell you exactly what the dialing format is for
local, national, international.

If you are struggling to find the difference between national and local,
it's more than likely that they only require on or the other format to be
configured and tested.

Many times they'll ask that for the different sites, local should look like
this, and national should look like that, and international should look
like so. But when you get to configuration time, you only need to provision
dialing for local and international (as an example).

If all else fails, and you are required to configure (and test) calls in a
certain format, but it's not clear on the exam paper what that format is,
then your best bet would be to speak to the proctor to get clarity.

HTH,
Paul

 Hi All,

It's probably a silly question, but it's some I struggle with more often
 than I like.

Can some clarify for me how a LOCAL and NATIONAL call generally need
to be dialed / presented outside the U.S.

In all the practice labs I've done, dialing international is usually
straight forward - something like 90014085551212.

But my head spins when trying to understand what is a national call verus
 a local call.

Lets say I have a International e164 phone number at +743 2202 4xxx at my
 Site C location.

Is a local number anything in the format?
What would a National number in this example ?

It seems to me anything other than , would be a International
 call.
So I don't see where National fits in.

Also , when I see a number like XX on the PSTN phone, is that
 automatically a International call ?

As long as they get the result required, phone displaying the 'TO' and
'FROM' correctly (if they ask), and more importantly: debug isdn q931

configure it.

Yeah. What Tam said. Just to note: the MRGL used for your trunk should
include the IOS MTP you configured, and this MUST be registered with CUCM.
Keep this in mind, since the Xcoder would be registered to CUCME on HQ-RTR.

Hey Amr,,
This is what i was trying to tell you earlier. You want to register the MTP
in CUCM, right? But look at your address in the 2nd line of your config:

sccp ccm 10.10.200.3 identifier 1 version 5.0.1

This is pointing to your GW, not CUCM. The MTP needs to be as part of
another sccp ccm group. Try this:

sccp ccm x.x.x.x id 2 ver 7 (where x.x.x.x is the IP of your Primary
CPE/SUB)
sccp ccm x.x.x.y id 3 ver 7 (where x.x.x.y is the IP of your Secondary

!
sccp ccm group 2
 associate ccm 2 priority 1
 associate ccm 3 priority 2
 associate profile 10 register hq-mtp

2010-09-16 Thread Paul Kruger
What is the extension configured in CUC? 4 digits? If so, then it won't
work. Your number you have configured here in SRST is the full 10-dig
extension. You would have to add a redirecting voice translation-pattern to
match 4-digits to go out and hit the correct extension in CUC.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Mgcp

2010-08-16 Thread Paul Kruger
Hi Pithog,

All the settings you see there on the CCM page under the section Product
Specific Configuration Layout will be downloaded by your gw if you have
these two commands configured: ccm-manager config server x.x.x.x
and ccm-manager config. By putting those two cmds in, the gw will download
an xml file with all the settings you configured under Product Specific
Configuration Layout.

If you are configuring your gw manually it will honor whatever isdn
switch-type you configured it for. Just note that you can specify this
command globally as a default for all your pots interfaces, or you can
specify the switch-type per interface.

Card-type will only be used if you have a card that supports both E1 and T1.
Then you gotta tell the gw which one you want it to be configured for. An
example would be: NM-HDV2-2T1/E1

If you only have cards that support just E1 and just T1, then that command
is not needed.

Now for your question on network-clock-select 1 T1 0/0/0, I'm going to use
Graham's approach, and ask YOU: What do you think it means?

Questions are always welcome, and probably the core use of this mailing
list. But I think you will get a lot more (and quicker) help, and understand
your question a lot better, if you do a bit of research first, and then post
here. Start your questions with something to the tune of:
I'm trying to understand command *so-and-so* and went to cisco's web site,
and found *doc-so-and-so* which gave me this explanation: *quote on the doc*.
But I don't understand what they mean with: *sub quote of the doc*. Can
anyone explain that a bit better?

That usually invokes a fair bit of assistance. Otherwise people might think
you're just asking to be spoon-fed. :)

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] First attempt

2010-07-30 Thread Paul Kruger
Let my chip in and give my 2c. Disclaimer: This might have changed since
last I wrote (Jan 2010)

In my first attempt I failed the dial plan miserably and got 0, which in
itself, is a section that if you get 0, getting 100% for the rest still
isn't enough to pass. Yet I had sections marked throughout with some 0, some
perfect and some in between all the way to the end.

On my second attempt, I failed the OEQ section, which also if you can
remember is a fail this and you fail the exam section. Still, the rest of
my exam was scored all the way through.

During lunch I realized that I made a mistake on my OEQ's and would fail,
and asked the proctor what the policy was, and it was quite the reverse from
what the perception is on this forum. He said. if you have earned enough
points to pass you, they stop marking. You've passed. But they will keep
marking all the way through if you have not.

And after my first attempt, I couldn't believe getting 0 for dialplan, as I
tested and tested everything, except for one question which I couldn't get
working. So thought at the least, I should get a few marks for that section.
But then spent a lot of time trying to figure out what I did wrong in
dial-plan, and sure enough the error was with me. There was one small little
thing that I did not include in any of my dialplan answers that bit me and
got me a zero.

Second time around, I just read the questions a lot more thoroughly and my
dial plan score was great! Still didn't have enough to pass, but at least I
had gained the belief that if a section was scored badly, I needed to pay
attention to that area.

I've heard this from Cisco employees as well that when the proctors reach
the conclusion that the candidate cannot make it up the 80% they just stop
the correction. This is something I will definetely ask whenever there is
another ask the expert forum. By the way has anyone ever looked for this
info in the ask the expert archives?

I know this forum is packed with Cisco staff. Can any of you clarify this

I don't see how this can be correct, if it is it makes the report
meaningless. You could screw up a few early sections, fail on 79% and still
have most of the report as 0. Of course as the score report is subject to
 NDA we'll never know.

Still Ohamien keep working on it and you will get there.

To my knowledge, once you lose more than 20 points, they simply stop
grading your exam. So the later section may have 0’s but you configured
 them correctly.

I feel like this is a big problem with the already vague score reports. I
wish they would change this. If you are paying $1400, you deserve a full
 report in my opinion.

I am sure you will figure out what mistakes you made which resulted in 0%.
I know its very hard to find out when you are sure your solution is 100%
but believe me I have been through this and you will come to know how a tiny
mistake in that particular section or may be in some other section resulted
in 0% for this section :)

I hope you pass in 2nd attempt. Don't forget to break down your scores and
analyze exactly which question you lost points. That will help you to work
 out on specific areas.

Not 100% sure, but think it is only applicable for outbound, and inbound
will match on matched digits.

From the Cisco IOS Voice Command Reference:

session protocol cisco - The cisco keyword is applicable only to VoIP on
the Cisco 1750, Cisco 1751, Cisco 3600 series, and Cisco 7200 series
routers.

  Hi,

I'm a bit confused why the session protocol command is not necessary for an
 incoming VoIP dial-peer.
Even if it is H.323 dial-peer (session protocol cisco) a SIP call can
match. Any ANI/DNIS matching rule is enough.

 Sb can makes me clear?

Hi Mike,

While your logic seems air-tight, I just want to let you guys know that you
shouldn't count on the OEQ's giving you 21 points anymore. They've changed
it to 4 points only. At least for the Voice Lab. I can't vouch for the other
tracks. But! It is still mandatory pass this section to pass the lab. Even
if it is only 4 points. If you fail this and get full 96 points from the
lab, you still fail.

Keep that in mind. It's an important bit to know, as it makes the test
harder. I had my second attempt at the end of Jan, and this was implemented
already. Third attempt: Aug/Sep.

Would you rather spend 480 minutes getting 100 points (.2083 points per

I think about two months ago.

I didn't see ANY announcements on it. I just saw it in my test. And thought
- cool! Only 4 points. What a bonus - there goes some pressure.

I stuffed up one of my four questions. And well... there was another one I
which didn't have a clue. So stuffing up that question was a big mistake. It
was an easy question, and one that I kinda brushed aside and figured - too
easy.

Only during lunch, I realized that I had answered it wrong! But thought, 4
points wasted, not too bad. But then during lunch the proctor also told us
that even though the Core Knowledge section is only worth 4 points, you
still have to pass it to pass the exam.

It sucked knowing for 5hours that no matter what I'm busy with now, it won't
change my result. I pushed through just to practice speed, and see gotchas
with the lab.

And there were a couple...

Interesting note, in the past 35 days, the number of RS CCIEs has

 letting their certs expire...

For Voice, since the live date of July 16th for v3, less than 62 have
passed the lab (less than because we should presume that some number
0 passed the V2 lab from June 26th to July 16th).
