CD-Rec... Help.... =)

2004-03-04 Thread
Hi.
I have the SPARC Station 20 with Solaris 2.5.1. I need install CD
writing program to that SPARC. As a writing device i use TEAC CDW
512SB, and program cdrecord-2.0 for writing. Solaris identifies this
device and even lets read the information from this device. Entering
(Stop+A)the PROM the command probe-scsi is answering positively. So,
it means the divice is connected and alive. But there is a problem.
Program cdrecord-2.0 doesn't find this device, though CDROM (TEAC CDW
512SB) is indicated as a supported device. I wonted that the problem
is? And help me if it's possible.

P.S. TEAC CDW 512SB it is installed as external.
P.S.S. Sorry for my English... =)

2004-03-04 Thread Andy Polyakov
I have a small problem with my dvd recorder. It's a NEC ND-1300A (dual
 format). It writes DVD+/-R at 4x, DVD-RW at 2x and DVD+RW at 2.4x.
cdrecord (either from cdrtools or ProDVD) reports that the drive can
 write at most at 2x:

   Write speed # 1: 1411 kB/s CLV/PCAV (CD 8x, DVD 1x)
   Write speed # 2: 706 kB/s CLV/PCAV (CD 4x, DVD 0x)

It refuse to work at 4x (with 4x media of course) even using -force.

You need to use media that is certified for 4x by NEC.

*Write* speeds reported through page 2A by NEC units [and their

in DVD context. In other words one can't use the above values to judge
if unit in question has erroneously recognized 4x media as 2x. The
effective speed values for currently mounted DVD media are returned by
NEC units through GET PERFORMANCE command, and not through page 2A. This
is not violation of MMC specification, because page 2A was declared as
no longer recommended for use in multi-media devices. A.

The only really minor problem I've found so far is that the reported

occasional problem formatting/rewriting DVD+RW disk with Sony DRU530A burner.

2004-03-04 Thread steven dao
I have 2 DVD burners on the same machine, the SONY DRU530A (primary) and the
SONY 510A (slave). I have no problem burning DVD+R and DVD+RW using DRU510A. I
have occasional problem formatting and rewriting data (use -Z option) on DVD+RW
disks using the DRU530A. The problem only happens with the DVD+RW disks. I have
no problem formatting a virgin DVD+RW disk the first time using DRU530A. The
problem occurs when rewriting data (or ISO image) the second time or after with
different size of data from the previous one. The message on the terminal shows
that it keeps the 0% (data written) for a while and frozen at the step of
de-icing (I have to turn off PC machine and reboot after). It also fails to
reformat the disk when this problem occurs. However, I can reformat the same
disk using the SONY DRU510A.
I notice that the 2 machine firmware format the DVD+RW disks differently. The
DRU530A formats very fast. I don't even see the % of disk formatted. When I
check (run dv+rw-format without the -force option), the DRU530A only format a
disk to 0.1% of capacity while the DRU510A formats to 11% of disk capacity.
Any idea about this problem?
Thanks
Steven D.

There was a severe kernel bug introduced in scsi layer in 2.6.3 (search

Re: extension of mkisofs for incremental backups

This is a program written by Bill Shannon (the inventor
of the vnode interface that also was the base for the NFS
 rpc interface.

I have been unable to find a homepage of Bill Shannon
or cstyle, although he turns up in some Google hits,
mostly related to his current work on Java for Sun.

I am currently trying to convince Sun that this program may be
officially distributed. It seems that there has been lo leak
so far...

fixed the places that you mentioned manually. Please
be patient if I didn't get all of them right and perhaps
consider making cstyle available on your web site if you
expect patches to be cstyle-clean (especially the correct
line continuation isn't clear to me).

Looks better now (only one deviation):

multi.c: 1615: continuation line not indented by 4 spaces
 strcmp(new_orig_contents[i]-name,
reloc_old_root) != 0) {

But it seems that you have a strange editor:

if (merge_image != NULL) {
if (merge_previouS_session(ROOT, MROOTP,

reloc_root, reloc_old_root)  0) {

Regarding evaluating the patch: you can fairly easily
conclude that it doesn't break anything by assuming
reloc_old_root == NULL in multi.c (the default when
no -old-root is used). Then it is obvious that the
new code is completely inactive and the same code as
without the patch is executed.

Didn't you see this:

  #define OPTION_CHRP_BOOT  2042

+ #define OPTION_RELOC_ROOT 2042
+ #define OPTION_RELOC_OLD_ROOT 2043
+

occasional problem formatting/rewriting DVD+RW disk with Sony DRU530A burner.

Thanks
Steven D.
