Re: cfecipse: ctrl+i triggers

2005-03-17 Thread Rob
Yeah in the newer versions it's ctrl+shift+i (and it should stay that
way). It changed because ctrl+i is the homesite keystroke for em (as
you now know) and it was messing up quite a few converts it seems

If you want to change it you can go to Window > Preferences > Keys
(which is sounds like you did but you just removed it not changed it)

Cheers,
Rob

I am too lazy to go to his site right now, but I recall "containers"
and "n-selects" being two completely different examples. The
"containers" I think were essentially some built in functionality. I
have always been a big fan of qForms and would have loved to see 2.0
come out but certainly do not get the impression it will be.

**
Michael Smith: This time we are talking with Charlie Arehart about his CFUNITED-
05 talk "Integrating CFML and ASP.NET Server Controls". So why should a
developer come to your session Charlie?

Charlie Arehart: Whether you're being forced to move to .NET, or you are just
curious, it's now possible to integrate your CFML with ASP.NET in ways that you
couldn't even with CFML and JSPs. Putting it another way, if your organization
is moving to .NET, you don't need to rewrite your CFML apps! More important, you
can do things with your CFML-based code when running on .NET that you couldn't
ever do with Java-based CFMX, as I hinted at in the description.

MS: How is that possible?

CA: BlueDragon for the Microsoft .NET Framework enables you to simply run the
CFML on .NET. The code remains CFML--we've just enabled the .NET framework to
know how to run CFML (like Macromedia rebuilt CFMX on top of J2EE). No CF or
BlueDragon server/service is required.

MS: But you do need a license for deploying on each server, right?

CA: Yes, that's right. BlueDragon.NET (a shortcut we use to refer to it) is a
licensed product from New Atlanta. You can install it free for trial purposes
and like ColdFusion it reverts to a single IP developer edition after 30 days.
If you want to use it for production purposes, you would buy a license. Pricing
starts at just $2499 per CPU, with volume discounts and other details posted on
our web site.

MS: So isn't .Net related to ASP?

CA: I know that for many years CF folks have regarded ASP as the evil "other web
app server". ASP.NET, and in particular the .NET framework, are very different.
Indeed, the .NET Framework can be considered Microsoft's answer to J2EE. Where
ColdFusion leverages J2EE only, BlueDragon can leverage either J2EE or .NET. Not
only is that something Macromedia has not done (and as far as we kno

RE: Get Disk Space from CF?

2005-03-17 Thread Taco Fleur
You can use the Scripting.FileSystemObject to get this information.

FSO = createObject( "COM", "Scripting.FileSystemObject" );
Drive = FSO.getDrive( FSO.getDriveName( "D" ) );
diskSpaceLeft = Drive.freeSpace() / 1024;

There might be some errors there as I typed it in this email, but it will
get you going ;-)

Exactly - one of the things you give up with Lucene is the set of document

you have to find your own text extraction parsers to feed the text to

Re: SQL licensing question

2005-03-17 Thread Jim McAtee
Another thing to consider: I don't know whether this applies to your
situation at all, but if you resell services on the server, then you must
use service provider licensing (SPLA).

An example would be offering MS SQL to web hosting customers in a shared
environment. Another would be operating as an ASP where you're reselling
applications using MS SQL.

http://www.microsoft.com/serviceproviders/licensing/default.mspx

SPLA licensing is paid for on a monthly basis, like a subscription, and
isn't available as a one-time license fee. You'd also need to license the
underlying Windows OS in the same manner.

Re: [Fwd: upgrade 6.1 to 7]

2005-03-17 Thread Jared Rypka-Hauer - CMG, LLC
The process is basically this:

Install CF7 beside 6.1
Launch CF7 administrator, which will migrate your settings from CF6.1
Uninstall CF6.1

CF7 will co-opt your webserver settings during the install... so CF6.1
will be running headlessly. When you're done installing MX7, it will
launch the Admin, the first phase of which is actually running a
migration wizard from MX6.1.

Does that help?

Re: spelling suggestion

2005-03-17 Thread Barney Boisvert
Probably use some kind of spelling engine (I like aspell) that will
generate suggestions for misspellings. create a table that has two
columns 'word' and 'suggestions' (normalize as you see fit). WHen you
get a search term, check and see if it's in the table. If it is, just
use the suggestions, but if it's not, run it through aspell, and store
the suggestions in the table for next time. I'm sure there's better
ways, but that should get you started, and shouldn't provide a
terrible amount of processing overhead.

cheers,

RE: HELP cfx_payflowpro

2005-03-17 Thread Ken Ferguson
That's just the way it outputs it.

I just fixed it though. The problem was that my classpath was to the
Verisign.jar file, as the docs said it should be, but I finally found a
post in the archives saying that post-6.0, that isn't necessary. I
changed the classpath to the directory and it works perfectly.

Thanks!!!

Re: Strange error kills sessions

2005-03-17 Thread James Edmunds
This sounds like a mapping issue. I had this happen at CT (oddly
enough, it was between two of my own, totally unrelated sites which
happened to be on the same server!!) and fixed it by simply
re-entering the mapping for custom tags on each of the sites.

Try re-entering the tags mapping for your site in the control center,
and if this doesn't help, see if the site phat-media.com has a
webmaster address so that you can contact the webmaster there and see
if he/she is having a similar problem, even if you have to look at the
source code to get some kind of email address for them.

But you can certainly let CT know that this kind of mapping issue is
not unknown, and can in fact occur without your making any action on
your part to attempt to load another site's tags.

I hope this is helpful,

RE: SQL licensing question

2005-03-17 Thread Connie DeCinko
Depends upon who will be using the application. Microsoft told us that the
license is different for say an intranet application vs. an Internet
application. For an internal app, you would use CALs.

What is the general practice in terms of licensing SQL server for use in a

Yea, I remember hearing about a 2.0 version of qForms although iirc
the last mention of it I'd seen was on his blog over a year ago... I
could be wrong, but he seems to have largely fallen off the radar...
not sure why... I know managing a popular open source project can be
frustrating at times and I imagine he may have felt like he needed
some "space"...

Though didn't the qForms API have a two-selects related feature?

I used qForms for a while -- actually was rather fond of it. For a
while toward the beginning of the onTap project (or maybe even before
onTap when I was still promoting the TAPI libraries) I had intended to
integrate with the qForms library in the onTap framework. I'd created
a preliminary management API -- something that would abstract the
qForms API further to eliminate a lot of common, repetitive
form-management tasks. I emailed Dan about it asking what his opinion
was, but that was about the time he seemed to sort of disappear and I
never heard anything back... Since then I've replicated many (most?)
of the qForms features in the onTap framework, and a number of
features that qForms simply couldn't accomodate due to it's
client-side nature (the onTap equivalents are client-server bundled
features, so just about anything you can do client-side you can also
do server-side with similar cf syntax).

I've also implemented a javascript client-server tool in the framework
but didn't use wddx or xml (or any iframes) to accomplish it.

Yea, that's dedication. I made a 4 hr drive from Dallas to Austin a
little over a year ago to promote the onTap framework. Although I only
had to make the drive once each direction. I wanted to make the same
trip to present in Houston but at the time I couldn't find any
information about a Houston CFUG and I hear from one of the guys there
that there wasn't really an active CFUG at the time... there was one,
but it wasn't active or was just getting started.

Mike,

I think I know you mean. Shared, but with some reasonable load limit. I am
using Intermedia.net and have
for years. They a more expensive, but have great reliability. I also had
very good service with CrystalTech.
Would still be with CrystalTech except their event scheduling granularity
is way too slow for me. Something
like 15 min to an hour. I can schedules events down to the minute with
Intermedia.

Isaac,

Actually I have used Dan's client server JSAPI for quite some time.
I've found it much more stable and easier to implement than
alternatives like the two selects related tag. I know he was planning
a version 2.0 of QForms and I believe the JSAPI, but so far it hasn't
been released.

Our whole CFUG adapted QForms after Dan spoke to our group two years
ago. Not many speakers would drive from Columbus to East Lansing and
return the same night to speak about an open source product but we
were glad that he did.

RE: Quick, how much is CF

2005-03-17 Thread Nick Call
Many of the credit card clearing houses will not allow you to store card
numbers anymore, neither electronically nor on paper. Every one of my
restaurant clients got hit with this rule in 2003/2004 by their card
processors. We had to update their POS systems and go through every one of
their back-office computers to make sure they were compliant.

They say that you can store the batch number and the authorization number.
That's it. Some of my clients push the envelope and keep the last 4 digits
of the card number, in case the customer comes back and they need some
reference. I can't blame them there.

Anyway, don't store card numbers and your life will be much easier.

I've actually had a client turn down doing something in CF simply
because of the cost of CF. I upped my quote for doing it in another
language by $1500, he verbally accepted that, and then I mentioned
that I could knock a few hundred off that and get him CF for "free"...

I have a prospective client that wants an app to collect CC#'s. That's IT!
But he wants it on his own IIS server. When we talked bout the prospects of
installing cf and it was gonna COST something, he shyed away and said look,
I'll just use ASP cause it won't cost anything. I'm like look, I can build
you an app in half the time. Didn't matter, he was finished with me at that
point.

But I always use shared hosting and have never installed cf myself on a
machine other than development.

Exactly what kind of price would we be talkin for somethin like this?

Thanks,

Strange error kills sessions

2005-03-17 Thread Shawna Hampton
I'm experiencing a very weird error on my CFMX 6.1 site (shared hosting at
CrystalTech). I didn't follow the recent thread on CT's issues with sessions --
this could be related.

I receive e-mail notifications whenever someone experiences an error on our
site that tells me the time, the error, and the page it occurred on. I've
noticed the last week or so several e-mails of the following nature:

access denied (java.io.FilePermission D:\Inetpub\phat-media\ctags read) null
The error occurred on line -1.

They all happen within a cluster of time and all occur on individual pages of
the site at once -- just a random selection of pages, never really the same
pages twice. I've tried going to one of the pages that experiences the error
and can never duplicate the issue.

I contacted CT's support and let's just say they were less than helpful.
Basically the support tech told me something in my code on the site was trying
to access this directory on someone else's site -- which is NOT the case. There
is indeed a domain hosted on CT called Phat-media.com. I've never heard of them
and I can absolutely say with 100% certainty nothing in my code is trying to
access this site's ctags directory. I've checked and double-checked.

However, today I noticed while actually using the site that all my individual
sessions were being killed over and over, within like 5 minutes of being set.
Sure enough a crop of error messages came in from all over the site with the
same timestamp that I experienced the killed sessions. I don't know for a fact
that it's related, but it's an awful darn coincidence.

Call me dumb, but I'm just not that advanced with the server administration
part of CF. Is this a simple fix? Does anyone have a clue for me about what's
going on here?

Thanks so much,
Shawna

It's not a problem with CFMX7 and FB4 since some people (myself included)
have FB4 and FB4.1 apps running on 7 with no problem. Something else is
causing the problem, and changing the Duplicate() to StructCopy() within the
core files is not an appropriate solution IMO, despite it floating around
online as being "the fix". Someone from Team Fusebox will probably chime in
with the cause/solution...

Re: I Hate Macromedia

2005-03-17 Thread Peter Farrell
< RANT mode="ON">
I hate to be the bad one and support Macromedia, but they have a business model
they want to protect and valuable one for all of their livelyhoods. When you
buy the software - you are buying a LICENSE that allows you to use it.
Licenses are crazy, but if you want to use that software you have to agree to
it. Enough on that - I'm sure everybody knows that.

Secondly, the $25 they want to transfer the license to a different platform
probably didn't cover the cost of the phone call you made to them. Operating a
call centre is very expensive and Macromedia is a "small" company when
comparing the "fishes of the sea".

Thirdly, anybody who's ever created anything for free or for profit - wants to
get compensated for their time spent and the lack thereof of time spend for fun
and with family. I understand that in this time and day - honesty is not a
wide-spread virtue any more. I'm sure that's why MM has a digital rights
management system in place to protect their software.

Lastly, I was personally involved in a copyright disagreement last summer ('04)
regarding a website that I have designed pro-bono for a non-profit. Every bone
in my body was hurt terribly by this blatant infrigement I believed they
comitted. Sadly in this day and age, I can really no longer take someone's
word for it any more - despite how badly I want to believe. As a perspective,
just look at how many pre-nuptuals are being signed.
< RANT mode="OFF" >

I've spoken my peace and please take this all with a grain of salt. Please, no
flames - I probably won't take the time to respond.

As is XMLHttpRequest.

All the solutions mentioned so far (xmlHTTPRequest, iFrame and an image) are
all HTTP requests. They all have the overhead of making a request in the HTTP
format and getting a response.

I really doubt that for sending up resolution data any of them are markedly
faster or slower than the others.

Personally I find using an image the most reliable for the task at hand (it's
more backward compatible) but that's a personal preference. If I had to
transfer more data however I wouldn't dream of using an image (sent is limited
to the amount of the data allowable on the URL and response data is limited to
the amount in a cookie).

But for res data I'm only passing a comma-separated list of 6 numbers (height,
width, availHeight, availWidth, color depth and JS version). Passing it on the
query string is quick and simple.

Yeah I guess, but I've been doing it since before the term existed so
it seems odd calling it that. Actually what neruomancer is is an
abstraction layer above ajax so you do things like

httpfactory.getInstance().doPost(myxml);

in any browser - it takes care of the setup and browser differences
for you. There is a bunch of other stuff too like turning a wsdl into
a javascript object - that is *not* ajax but it uses it

I've been on a cleaning spree the past bit. I am going to do another
release pretty soon (probably tonight if I get time) but there is no
link at present (there was one but the server got hosed). I'll post
the releases to the ajax list if you care (or just keep checking that
documentation link)

Conversely, at least currently, I don't find clients that can't/won't fork

But he wants it on his own IIS server. When we talked bout the prospects of
installing cf and it was gonna COST something, he shyed away and said look,
I'll just use ASP cause it won't cost anything. I'm like look, I can build
you an app in half the time. Didn't matter, he was finished with me at that

But I always use shared hosting and have never installed cf myself on a

Exactly what kind of price would we be talkin for somethin like this?

Obviously, based on your somewhat specious comments in response to the
accessibility issue :)

Seriously, as a web developer, you owe it to yourself to read up on it
and learn exactly what it does (and does NOT) mean for web design. It
doesn't prevent you from using lots of techniques, it merely requires
that there are alternatives (you *can* use images, but provide
appropriate 'alt' tags; you *can* use Javascript but the site must
also be usable without it; you *can* use Flash but you need to program
in the accessibility - and Flash has support for that these days).

CFMX 7, CFForms, and Javascript

2005-03-17 Thread Don Neizer
We have a beginning CFForm application where a dropdown list passes data over
to another dropdown list. Values passed to the second list can also be removed.

We've tried using javascript code from another project, however, CFMX7 returns
"Errors, warnings or exceptions were found when compiling
/cfbci-tlc/admin/dsp_Organization.cfm. Visit the online Flex documentation or
API reference for further information." when we use;

We sure could use some help. I researched the actionscript side but that's
unfamiliar territory, but I suspect the answer lies there.

The complete code follows for dsp_Organization.cfm

Thanks in advance,
Don

If you are using a J2EE ear/war installation of CFMX, then there are
post-install instructions on Macromedia.com. Navigating to them is
sometimes challenging, but if you specify the J2EE server I can help.

If you are using a CFMX Server or JRun (install option 1 or 2), then the
problem is that ColdFusion can't load CFXNeo.dll or libCFXNeo.so. You
might want to check the jvm library path and make sure that $CFHOME/lib
is in the java.library.path in jvm.config. It looks like server config
sets this path, the equivalent: {application.home}/../lib

You don't need to use XML to take advantage of XmlHTTPRequest, you can
simply use it to fetch things via HTTP, which is a good thing to be able to
do since you can avoid using frames/iframes/new windows, etc. You can just
look into your responseText property instead of responseXML.

RE: cflogin tag and the browser back button

2005-03-17 Thread Dawson, Michael
Once they have logged out, redirect them to the sign-in page using
CFLOCATION or a javascipt redirect. That will clear the form
submission.

Then, on each page request, you need to instruct the browser not to use
the cached copies of the pages.

I just posted some non-caching code this morning, but I don't remember
which newsgroup it was, this or cf-community or the cfc list.

How do you get form data out of the browser's memory so that after a
user logs into a secure website, then logs out, if you click the back

"The page you are trying to view contains POSTDATA that has expired from

Compliance doesn't mean not using whatever features you like, it means
providing interfaces for those who can't use these features. If you can't
afford to build multiple interfaces, you're probably better off building
something that everyone can use.

Re: Ajax

2005-03-17 Thread S . Isaac Dealey
I forgot to mention FusionScript -- although I have no idea where that
project's going -- or gone as the case may be... I'm under the
impression that making the later versions commercial pretty much
killed its advancement -- at least I remember hearing someone tell me
the author gave a presentation in which he mentioned regretting not
leaving it open-source ultimately.

Dan Switzer had one he called "Client/Server Gateway JSAPI" ... part
of the problem with names -- I'd bet it would have had more ubiquity
if it had a simpler name like qForms ... Matt Walker also had
something similar he called Simple Remote Scripting (SRS).

As names go, AJAX is a good name not only because it's short and easy
to say but also because it has the kind of _sound_ that people
remember (psychology of sound -- like the psychology of color).

The onTap framework has some tools that accomplish the same ends, I
just don't see the need for XmlHTTPRequest as a transport medium. Part
of the reason I wasn't too hip to use Dan Switzer's API in spite of it
being a pretty small library... I'd think you'd only need or want to
use XML if you planned to send data between different domains hosted
on separate servers, rather than within an individual application
where it seems to me it would be much more efficient to _not_ need to
continaully serialize and deserialize XML packets.

are at least attempting to go way too far... So yes, it's good for
handicapped people to be able to do the same things as the rest of us
-- to a point... But to demand that all things must be accessible to
all people regardless of handicap is just going to put handcuffs on
everyone. Wait, no, you can't use graphics, because some people can't
see... Wait, no you can't use audio, because some people can't hear...
What about people who are deaf _and_ blind? How are we supposed to
accomodate them? And is it really necessary that because some people
can't see or can't see well that _no_one_, not even people with severe
miopia should be declined a job where their primary responsibility is
to manage content of a visual nature (text) which logically _should_
require at least average visual accuity? If you're that miopic,
shouldn't you logically be trying to find some other way of making a
living or moving in with family who can support you when you can't
work anymore? When does the creep of the straightjacket stop? When can
we stop and say "okay, some things are just not reasonable". Not that
I'm really terribly read up on 508 -- what I know about it could
probably fill a thimble... I just think about the possibility of
LIBRARIES as typically government-run institutions demanding that
their jobs be available to any person no matter how myopic they might
be and I have to think "my god, what a freakishly frustrating handcuff
to put on people -- a good cause taken to an extreme in a place where
it logically shouldn't apply." And I wouldn't be surprised if it's not
the case with the current state of 508 regulations that it will become
that way.

Rob,

I think what you're doing would be defined as Ajax - the term is
fairly new. Definitely interested in the offer of demos.

Also the link posted was to the docs, was there a link to the code on

RE: I Hate Macromedia

2005-03-17 Thread Ken Ferguson
"The BSA has no independent law enforcement authority of any kind. Its
rights are derived from a power of attorney provided by its member
software companies. Those companies have rights created by their
software license agreements and under the laws protecting copyrights."
(from Scott & Scott, LLP)

The BSA is a private organization and while they can use any information
against you in litigation, they cannot come into your business and
demand to see your computers with any legal authority. The only power
that they have is give to them by the companies they represent. The BSA
has no more right to walk into your business and demand access to your
server room than Microsoft does. These rights can only be granted after
litigation has been initiated. They can do all of the investigation they
want from outside and they can stand outside of your door talking to
employees... They can even come into your server room if *you agree* to
let them in, but they have no legal right to enter until explicitly
given that right either by you or by the courts.

Besides, even in the absolute largest cases they file, the first step
they take 99% of the time is to request a company perform a self-audit.
Then they will negotiate penalties and fines as an out-of-court
settlement. If you refuse to perform a self-audit or if you ignore them,
they will file suit in court and they could subsequently be granted the
right to audit your machines...

I spent a hell of a lot of time researching this when a previous
employer was accused of piracy. The BSA threatened all kinds of action
(shutting down the business for two weeks to go through our system,
chaining the doors and locking us out...), but they don't have any legal
power and as soon as I did the research to prove that, we simply
directed them to our new BSA-specialist attorney and they stopped
lobbing up their baseless threats and started asking very nicely for us
to help them straighten things out. In the end, we ended up with one
Windows 2000 server out of 27 that was unlicensed and 3 installations of
Symantec Ghost that were unlicensed (the company didn't even know about
Ghost). Our company ended up settling out with the BSA for the cost of
the licenses and a $500 penalty.

Sorry to go on and on about this, but I really don't want anyone to read
that last post and get frightened about the Software-Gestapo coming to
get them.

Of course, I'm not emailing from "lawyers weekly" and I have no legal
training. I just know how to do a lot of research. Oh, and I did stay at
a Holiday Inn Express last night!

As for the BSA, they notify you before they begin their crusades through
your offices, IIRC they have no legal backing to just waltz in and
examine what they want without doing so first. Its not like you're
hiding dead bodies, its software.

cflogin tag and the browser back button

2005-03-17 Thread Rebecca Wells
How do you get form data out of the browser's memory so that after a
user logs into a secure website, then logs out, if you click the back
button on the browser, a dialog box pops up warning :

"The page you are trying to view contains POSTDATA that has expired
from cache. If you resend the data, any action the form carried out
(such as a search or online purchase) will be repeated. To resend the
data, click OK. Otherwise, click cancel." (using FireFox)

or

"Warning: Page has Expired The page you requested was created using
information you submitted in a form. This page is no longer available.
As a security precaution, Internet Explorer does not automatically
resubmit your information for you. To resubmit your information and view
this Web page, click the Refresh button." (using IE).

Sometimes you have to click the back button several times to go back in
the browser history to the point where it had the form data. I'm using
MX 6.1 with the cflogin/cflogout tags.

I tried putting a cflocation right after the cfloginuser tag to
redirect the user to the index page, but then the user keeps getting the
login form instead of the index page after being authenticated. Which is
weird because I thought that the cflogin tag was supposed to not execute
if the user is logged in. How can that even be happening?

This is ugly. Anybody know what the solution is?

Just a quick question and if possible a point to tell how to do this.

I have Eclipse installed, i have CFEclipse Installed (latest nightly
build), i have the VSS Plugin Installed.

What I want to do is develop locally and then deploy to a development
testing server. I have my VSS to use my local computer as the place to
pull the files down to, and it will check-in and checkout AOK but i
can't figure out how to get the files form my local machine up to our

I know this is a REALLY basic question but i'm VERY new to Eclipse /
CFEclipse.

any help is appreciated!

I wouldn't say it's a step backwards; it's more like walking side-by-side. A
lot of the ideas behind Flash RIAs and Flex are intended to address the
deficiencies in DHTML interfaces, and Flash (or something like it) will
probably replace DHTML interfaces in the long term. But a few of the
problems of DHTML have resolved themselves. For example, more-or-less
cross-platform DHTML is easier now than it used to be. Also, DHTML
programming isn't all that hard. Being a "domscript guru" simply isn't that
hard for an experienced programmer.

As for MM shooting themselves in the foot, the price of Flex is simply not
that much given the typical development time for a complex web application,
so I don't buy that at all. There are some interface problems that Flash is
simply not ready to solve, and in the short term DHTML interfaces may be a
better answer than Flash for those problems. The tables may turn when Flash
Player 8 comes out, for all I know.

My webroot was on another drive from c:\cfusionmxI wanted the same
config so I used the same webroot from CF 7everything went
perfect...then I uninstalledd CF 6 which toasted the CFIDE directory in my
webroot...argh...no cf admin ;-)

So I had to re-instal CF 7 to get everything workin again
