Re: cfm bb

2005-07-12 Thread Stan Winchester
No offense taken, but don't you get it; I said we will give away MULTIPLE FREE
licenses to those who help in the beta test. If we need to add features to be
equal to phpbb, then we will see what we can do.

I wish I could offer the forum for free, but I have to eat and so does my
family, so free is not an option. The MSRP is only $89.95 and developers
automatically get 25% off with the very first purchase! After you sell 50 the
price is only $44.98 which equals a 50% discount! So in a way, we are almost
giving the forums away.

I hope I don't offend anyone by sharing this much information about the
marketing, I'm just trying to get beta testers, and responding to "Dave the
disruptor"

Well - you're welcome to use my BBML parser:

http://www.depressedpress.com/depressedpress/Content/Development/ColdFusion/
Extensions/DP_ParseBBML/Index.cfm

It was written in 4.5 but still works a treat in MX+ (and there's not much
I'd change were I to do it again). I wrote it, originally, as the precursor
to a forums application that never materialized.

I believe the level of support is about what you'd find in phpBB.

I'd be willing to modify it to work better for the integration effort if you
needed it as well.

it is a clusterf*ck-o-code but if it was in cfm at least it would be easy to
manipulate it how you want it.

I use it all the time and would love to have it in cfm instead of the headache
inducing php but even if it's not for that it's for the community and by ppl
not doing anything it puts us right were we are now (as far as sharing apps
goes, way behind)

RE: Making a flash movie a link.

2005-07-12 Thread Parker, Kevin
Not that I know of. You have to create a button the size of the movie in
flash and apply the getURL command.

I just looked in Flash Help and there are no parameters for creating a
link. You could try wrapping the tags in and/or tags
to produce a link. You would probably need to use javascript onClick
methods for this.

Re: Purging client variables

2005-07-12 Thread Barney Boisvert
I use client variables (well, client variable-like storage)
extensively. Can I get slammed too? Client variables aren't
inherently bad, just in many (most ?) situations their drawbacks
outweigh their advantages, and if you use them without understanding
their characteristics you're just asking for trouble.

cheers,

RE: Java class called from CF errors

2005-07-12 Thread Taco
Funny thing is when I look at the fingerprint from
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\.keystore
I get
asiccert, 6/07/2005, trustedCertEntry,
Certificate fingerprint (MD5):
AE:A9:A6:61:D4:EE:D5:4A:B6:14:56:AC:6A:46:CB:2C
shelco, 6/07/2005, keyEntry,
Certificate fingerprint (MD5):
E0:05:34:7C:9C:A2:E9:9E:E6:0E:A8:66:4D:60:3A:F2

But when I look at the fingerprint from
C:\CFusionMX\runtime\jre\lib\security\cacerts
I get

asiccert, 13/07/2005, trustedCertEntry,
Certificate fingerprint (MD5):
E0:05:34:7C:9C:A2:E9:9E:E6:0E:A8:66:4D:60:3A:F2

I'm still kind of wet behind the ears when it comes to certificates and
keys. Anyone know of a good tutorial out there? I got it working for Java
but don't ask me how I did it, I won't be able to replicate it, I did it bit
by bit via articles.

The CF admin has a setting for exactly that, with a length of time you
want to keep them around. Other than that, just doing a DELETE

Yes, you'd need to convert the data from binary to base 64. Not having dealt
with this problem at all recently, I'm not sure whether it'll be as simple
as fetching the field and using ToBase64 on it, though.

He (or I) typo'd the function call... in the code that was posted the
function called was "ReplaceNoCase"... the function should be
REReplaceNoCase (we dropped the "re") -- or REReplace() would work
actually, since the expression doesn't include anything but

The CF admin has a setting for exactly that, with a length of time you
want to keep them around. Other than that, just doing a DELETE
against the database will wipe them out quite effectively.

It's not restricted to CFM developers - if anything, web developers are
more likely to be comfortable with a greater number of different

changing UID to string in MSSQL

We have a userUId column of type uniqueidentifier in our MS SQL database.
We are running into some issues where sometimes the UID's are cut off when
passed in url's (from email clients, etc). I think the problem may be the -
character, where certain email clients and browsers decide to chop things
off at the - character.

So we've decided to create another column, userStrUid of type varchar, and
set the formula to (left(replace([userUId],'-',''),40)).

Now this works as expected, and it populated data for all exisiting users
for this field. Now, however, when I do inserts, I get this error:

[Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver][SQLServer]INSERT failed because the
following SET options have incorrect settings: 'ARITHABORT'.

I am not using this column on the insert, and there is no default set
(should there be?). Also the primary key is inserted by getting a
max(userid) + 1 and then inserting it. I'd like to switch it to an identity
column, but wondering if that will mess up my data.

I've taken out the column and the insert works fine now. Why is it failing?

The "why" is that a CFC setup as a web service ignores local CF
mappings...thus "file not found".

As I just posted this was a known issue/bug in CFMX 6.1, but I'm not sure if
it also applies to 7

Solutions for Jrun hogging memory?

What would be a good check list of problems that could cause Jrun to slowly hog
too much memory, chocking the server after a few weeks?

Especially ones that could continue to be a problem after an upgrade from 6.1
to 7, which we hope to do in the near future?

My experience everywhere else, even here at work has been the holier than

it was the use of pipelined functions to deal with some lists of data being
sent in. Although I have written a few SPs in the past few months to help
out with ref integrity checking/messaging that hopefully will help this
group out here.
My only beef with Oracle has always been the general attitude of people
when seeking help. Although their forums tend to have a good group of people
in them. Maybe I just have been spoiled with out CFM people are.

RE: Show the code not the conversion.

No, I want the htmleditformat, but I would like it to display the escaped code,
not convert it back. This is for a tool to take html, escape all the code so
that it can be put into an XML node. The tool works for geeks like me, since I
can get the code by looking at the source. But I was hoping there was an
obscure CFML or HTML tag that would not convert the code when displaying; thus
eliminating the need to view the source.

Oh... you want to double-up the htmledit formatting?

i think you have to write your own equivalent of htmleditformat --
since I don't think the native function will double itself up like
that.

function doubleUp(text) {
return
rereplacenocase(htmleditformat(text),"&([^;[:space:]]+);","&am
p;\1;","ALL");

}

Yeah, you have to add a virtual directory in the jrun-web.xml file under
{webroot}/WEB-INF

Re: include udf in fusebox 4.1?

You can't. The INCLUDE verb in FB4.x is a fusebox thing, not a CF
thing. More specifically, it's an include to a fuse inside the
circuit you're currently operating, while CFINCLUDE is an include to
an arbitrary CFM file on the server. If you want CFINCLUDE's
behaviour, you have to use CFINCLUDE, most likely within an action
fuse.

This seems weird at first, but it makes sense. FB only knows about
fuses, it doesn't know about CF templates. So if you want to include
an arbitrary CF template, that's actual application logic, it's not a
FB instruction. And since you wrap application logic in action fuses
(or CFCs), you need to put the CFINCLUDE in an action fuse as well.

This same thing applies to CFMODULE and other custom tags; you wrap
the call in an act_ fuse or UDF/CFC method.

Re: retrieve ID from db insert

Guess it depends on your definition of "life easier" and ones understanding
of features, after all someone with a limited view would think using
triggers to plug in sequence values is using "cool" oracle features.
Only reason I state that is I can think of a lot of "developers" here at
this company that if you were to try to get them to get the nextval of the
sequence and then insert it you would get deer in the headlight looks.
Actually not too sure any of then use the transaction tag either and bet if
any do they put no attributes on it.
I often wonder how many CFM developers that work with Oracle use and
understand all the features that all that money was spent on. And if they do
not understand the features well enough, what could have been intended to
make their life/jobs easier could quickly make it harder but that is just
part of life and anything out there.

The VARIABLE attribute is new to CFMX 7. In the absence of this attribute,
you will need to either write the file to disk then use CFCONTENT to refer
to the file, or you will need to encode the binary content appropriately
then output it yourself after the CFCONTENT tag.

RE: Storing and retrieving images from SQL Server 2000

Dave,

Any hint on the latter part of your statement? Is that where I'd need
to convert to base64 or to string and then store in the db and when
pulled out do tobinary()? What exactly is it coming out of the db as
when I insert it? Notice in my first post, I'm having trouble inserting
as well. Not quite sure of all the conversions that need to happen at
the moment. Any advice you can give would be great!

RE: retrieve ID from db insert

As i see it, the benefit of this approach is that it will be more
portable across different databases (as long as they understand
transactions). The down side is that if you want this to work you will
have to use - "repeatable_read"
won't cut it if another transaction has finished in the mean time.
Unfortunately, some other products implement this level of isolation by
locking the whole table - which means that only one thread at a time
will be able to insert into this table.

My advice: oracle cost a lot of money, so get your money's worth: use
oracle specific features when they make your life easier. It's what
they're for.

RE: Storing and retrieving images from SQL Server 2000

Ben,

Thanks for the response, but I'm curious as to why the documentation
doesn't show the variable attribute for
http://livedocs.macromedia.com/coldfusion/6.1/htmldocs/tags-a17.htm#wp28
50760

Is this going to be deprecated or is this new or what? I'm using CFMX
6.1.

Subject: Storing and retrieving images from SQL Server 2000

I've looked in the archives and can't find a good answer to this. I know
I've done it in the past, I just can't remember how and my brain hurts
so i figured i'd ask the list. I have no say about storing the images
in the DB and that decision is already made, so I just need help putting
them in there and getting them out.

Right now, the DB is set up with a column of the type BLOB. I'm trying
to figure out how to let a user upload a file and then read that file
back off of the server and insert it into the database using
but it's not working for me. Do I need to do any conversions using any
cf functions before the insert?

When I'm trying to pull it from the DB, I have a page that does the
query and uses to set the type to image/gif and then output
the result of the query using #queryname.value# and
i'm calling that page using but I'm not
getting the result as expected.

I think it all goes back to how I'm putting it in and pulling it from
the DB. Any help would be greatly appreciated and I'd like to stay away
from CFX tags if at all possible. We have tried a couple and have
gotten patchy results. Thanks for your help while my brain is out to
lunch!

RE: Show the code not the conversion.

Oh... you want to double-up the htmledit formatting?

i think you have to write your own equivalent of htmleditformat --
since I don't think the native function will double itself up like
that.

function doubleUp(text) {
return rereplacenocase(htmleditformat(text),"&([^;[:space:]]+);","&am
p;\1;","ALL");

}

Hi,

I have a udf library that is outside of the application root folder. I
created a mapping to it, but I can't seem to include it in the fuseaction.
How do you include udf in your fuseaction?

Uh-oh. Let the flame wars begin...

John, email me off-list and I will send you some files that will allow
you to store any type of files in a database.

Personally, I see nothing wrong with storing images/files in a DB as
long as you are aware of any issues related to the practice.

There is a mapping already called "appCFCs" to the CFCs directoryused to
call the local/internal CFC. The problem is that the mapping doesn't seem
to work when the container web service (on the same server) uses that
mapping to call the local/internal CFC.

Am I not "gettin" you Joe? ;-)

Re: Canadian CF hosting & CC processing?

Little late to this myself...

I know CrystalTech got panned on here a few months back...at that time I'd
never used them. I know some people swear by them, but since the panning I
have worked on a project hosted with them. I've been pretty unimpressed so
farconsistent intermittent MAJOR slow downs and lots of forwared mail
goes missing or is deleiverd days late.but heyjust one persons

Just a heads uplike I said...lots of people have no tribble at all ;-)

Personally I use Uniserve.com$24.95 month gets ya CF hosting with FREE
MS SQL Server (although I'm sure you pay if you go over acertain size
limit...but I haven't hit it yet).

Hey Brian,

Maybe try adding a ColdFusion mapping called "appCFCs" to wherever the
appCFCs directory is - I've had issues with CFC resolution in
containers other than CFM where I've needed explicit mappings, namely
remote gateways.

Web service caling local CFC

Hey All,

An associate is having an issue with a web service calling a method in a local
CFC. Both the web service and the local CFC are on the same server just
different directories. Of course the local CFC uses access="public" and the
web service CFC uses access="remote".

There is a CF mapping to the local CFC called "appCFCs"

Any local CF templates calling the local CFC work just fine using the code
below:

When the web service cals the same method in the CFC above it uses:

The call above generates an error: "Could not find the ColdFusion Component
appCFCs.FOS.groundfish"

NOTE: The web service is in a different directory on the server than the local
CFC as it will be SSL secured (but isn't currently)

Personally I've never had a web service cal a local CFC, but I have had local
CFCs call each other with not problemsso I'm not quite sure why this is
happening.

Any thoughts?

Storing and retrieving images from SQL Server 2000

Thanks for your help while my brain is out to
lunch!

Re: query sum or group by

Here's the rule. It's pretty simple.

You can not select aggregate function (sum, count, max, min, etc)
columns and regular columns without using group by. Every column in
the select statement must either have an aggregate function, or must
be in the group by clause. What you're trying to do above will work if
you add food_item and pkg_size to the group by, and total the gs_price
column.

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to confuse. It's a very similar query as the first
one, but it is a different query.
You're right, except I'm not doing a SUM on the price per item. I'm just trying
to find out how many orange juices there are at whatever price they're at. I
tried adjusting yours and mine to this:
SELECT s.food_item,s.pkg_size,s.gs_price, COUNT(p.food_store_id) AS item_total
FROM fsnep_food_store_purchases p, fsnep_food_store s
WHERE p.food_store_id = s.food_store_id
AND p.gi_id = #cookie.fsnep_bargain_hunt_gi_id#
GROUP BY s.food_item

but I receive the same error that I always receive, "not a GROUP BY expression"
and I never know why it's not a valid groupby expression.

Re: query sum or group by

I'm a bit confused as to what you're trying to count and total. It
looks to me like you're now doing a count and price by item, whereas
before you wanted a grand total. IF you want a count and price by
item, you'd just do:

SELECT itemname, SUM(pricecolumn) as totalpricebyitem, COUNT(itemid)
AS countbyitem
FROM yourtables
group by itemname

If you NEED to do this, change the web server to have cold fusion
handle .txt files, and put the formatting in the application.cfm and

Re: retrieve ID from db insert

We appear to just be going around in circles on this one. If you have a
query that selects the sequence next value then you do not need a
CFTRANSACTION but you do have to remember to always select the next value
since I'd assume this uses no trigger to handle it on any other inserts?
What do you do for mass inserts from another table, guess just a little
addition to the SQL and really no biggie on that one.
Or you take the approach of never inserting anything manually into the "ID"
column and just little a trigger/sequence handle it. That means using
CFTRANSACTION so that after you insert it you do the SELECT MAX(ID) AS NEWID
Since there seems to be no adverse reason to using CFTRANSACTION unless
in some of the already noted situations which seem more out of the norm than
the norm, then this method just to me seems like an easier approach.

Re: retrieve ID from db insert

The two query approach secures the id from the sequence though. No other
thread, request, etc can get the same sequence value.

Now, if you were to manually build and control a numeric sequence ala SELECT
Max(id) + 1 as newid FROM tblname, then you would have to worry about this
issue and use a transaction or lock orsomething. But with Oracle's sequence,
no need to worry.

So, why would I get the error, "not a group by expression" when I add a column
to the group by? I receive this error freqently and never understand why. In
this case, I'm using the food store unique id for each food item.

Also, since I'm asking, I'm trying to figure out how to get the number of items
in a grouped set or if they should not be grouped but instead sorted, how do I
get a count of those items. In other words, I return a list of purchased
items. I may have 4 drinks and 2 waters. I want to list the shopping cart
just like that:
4 drink 6oz 3.19
2 water 32 oz 1.69

but I only know how to return a list.

Here's a picture of the current setup to hopefully make my explanation clearer.

under quantity in this case is just the food_item_id. In this case there are
only two unique items and in place of the current food_item_id, I'd like to put
the quantity of each item.

oh, I'm using the same query as displayed above, though on a different page
this time.

and sorry for all the DB questions, but I'm just out of my league today. I'm
not really a TOTAL loser.

Reference an ActionScript Variable in a CFQUERY?

Here is what I am trying to achieve...

var SearchItem = SelectClientNum.selectedItem.data

SELECT BasicInfo.IDID, IDNo, Identity.ID,
(Trim(Identity.LastName)+", "+Trim(Identity.FirstName)+"
"+Trim(Identity.MI)) AS FullName
FROM (BasicInfo
INNER JOIN Identity ON BasicInfo.IDID = Identity.ID)
WHERE IDNo = '#SearchItem#'

I can't seem to get #SearchItem# to equal the value of
SelectClientNum.selectedItem.data

Further in my code I can reference SelectClientNum.selectedItem.data and
it is correct.

How do I refer to an ActionScript variable within a ???

RE: Query to text file.

I'd tend to go with an export from SQL server via DTS, but there's also a
custom tag out there we use for various data imports called CF_QueryToText.
I think it's still available at:

http://www.cfmcentral.com/gallery/detail.cfm?Script_ID=23

It's pretty easy to use too:

I'm not sure of it's limitations as far as query size, but it's been able to
handle whatever we've thrown at it so far.
Just a thought

I would recommend that you try using it from another COM client, like
Windows Script Host, to see if it works from there. That will tell you
whether it's a CF problem or a problem with that COM object.

Re: retrieve ID from db insert

Yes, but isn't the point in doing the CFTRANSACTION in the way I am
describing to ensure that you get the ID of what you just inserted in order
to pass it back to the website? More than likely to pass it back with a URL
for telling the user hey this is where you go to view status or to edit what
you just put in our database. I thought the point in doing the CFTRANSACTION
for this was not so that you can do a rollback on the sequence(which we all
agree can not happen anyway) but was to ensure when things are being
inserted by multiple people and around the same times that each person gets
the ID that belongs to them.

On 7/12/05, Douglas Knudsen

ok. as I mentioned earlier in the this thread, a rollback does not effect a
sequence. So wrapping a transaction around these too queries is no different
really then wrapping it around the single insert.

Re: query sum or group by

I gave it a try, with the where clause duplicating the outside one, but it gave
me an unusually large number, so I'll have to give it a bit more time.

thanks!

Re: query sum or group by

Of course, that total_price subselect will undoubtedly need to be
altered with a where clause too, but you know your data, so play with
that some until it's the specific total you want. Then you will have
that column containing the total alongside all your others.

MSXML in CF5? class not registered

   Hi ppl ,

i have some problem using msXML in cf5 , Coldfusion just says the object
class is not registered

 tried :

 register the dll using regsrv32
 upgrading the MDAC to 2.8
 installed msXML 4.0
looking for the right name of the progID and CLSID with OleView and use each
to test... but the same error keeps on screen :-S
change permisions to access that object for all users in the machine.

Any ideas?... i was used before in CFMX with no errors like this.

Re: null null errors

OMG! I think I just found a solution for this (at least in my instance). Based
on the information that this was being thrown by the tag, and
that it probably had something to do with missing CFTOKEN information, I added
the folloiwng line of code just above the tag:

All this does is just check for the existence of CFTOKEN in the URL, and if it
doesn't exist, it creates it. BTW, I tried this using a variety of scopes, and
URL seemed to work the best in all the scenarios I was able to test. Since
adding this code yesterday morning, I haven't received a single "null null"
error on my site (down from usually ~20-30 a day). Does anyone see any
potential pitfalls with using this code this way?

Ack. Don't do that. If you want to learn how to do it in a sub-query,
then by all means, research subqueries. But doing an extra trip back
to the DB is very inefficient and bad design, when all the information
you need is already right there in memory for you.
