Re: Vmware and CF 8+

2010-09-16 Thread Arsalan Tariq Keen

:)...
I am seeing this kind of discussion first time here :)
Well being a B.E Electronics I can say ... high voltage generally means
less current. Current is basically the phenomena which causes heating and it's
the consumption of current which is measured to bill the subscribers.
However, for any particular machine, it can not be said consuming high
voltage means it would be consuming less current or less POWER :) ... it can
only be determined checking out the machines power requirement.

Brook... your company may be charging you mainly for converting your regular
110 V supply to 220V. Obviously, in my country no one would charge for this
because we have 220V regularly available :)

Best of luck with your venture (Y)

Arsalan

Re: duplication of cookies on each request

2010-09-16 Thread Duncan

@Andrew I have tried this with NO cfcookie tags in the code, and CF still
insists on setting them each request.

Wierder stillis that the Google Analytics code is doing it too, and I have
NO control over it.

@Michael - yes we have tried setting the cookie again, but using cfcookie
appears to force a new cookie in the browserm it doesnt overwrite the
existing cookie, its like isDefined() returns false all the time

Again doesnt explain why the GA cookies are doing it

@Kym, creating new cookies on starting a new session I would understand, but
take a look at my logging, each request is within the current session, CF is
not calling onSessionStart on each page refresh. We still end up with
duplicte cookies, all with values accumulated from the previous request.

Its a standard trick to change the "expires" attribute for the cookie so
it expires immediately.

Close browser, open browser and it becomes a new session rather than
using the still-existing cookies from before.

Re: Wrapping text before writing to an image

2010-09-16 Thread Leigh

I have not used it myself, but I checked and ImageUtils.cfc does have a
DrawTextArea() function. That might be what you are looking for.

Also, for simple line wrapping, you could use a LineBreakMeasurer. A while back
I wrote a sample function that demonstrates how it works.

Am I just tired or is this a little redundant? Set a local var equal to the
cookie value, then overwrite the cookie value with the local var value?
Surely I'm just reading this wrong.

Re: Problem with getting cfhttp to do a post

2010-09-16 Thread Andrei Kondrashev

If POST from a browser works AND it is NOT an authetication issue, you should
be able
successuly POST using CFHTTP or CFX_HTTP5.

Wondering, why do you have encoded="no" set? Browsers, do URL-encoding of
values before POST.
So, you might be rejected, because some values you are posting are not decoded
properly on their side.

I am 99% sure at least one of the open source cfc's has an existing function

Re: cfquery not returning results with apostrophe

2010-09-16 Thread Richard White

thanks for everyones help, its now solved!

the reason i am building it through a string is because it is interacting with
various extjs grids, which apply filters. i have a generic function that
creates the havingclause to filter the data.

i ran the havingclause through a loop printing out 1 character at a time. the
apostophe was printed as '%apos;' even though it appeared as ' in the sql
statement!

have taken on board comments re cfqueryparam and now that this error is fixed
will update it to include the sql injection

thanks for all the help :)

duplication of cookies on each request

2010-09-16 Thread Duncan

Hi Folks,

I have a cookie dupication problem that I cannot get my head around. This is
a duplication of my thread on cf-aussie, so apologies to those who are
seeing this twice.

See this page for example.

http://www.biowishtechnologies.com/au/information/our-company1/senior-management-team/lorenzo-gella/

If you click through a few pages on this site, then view the cookies that
have been set for it you will see they have been multiplied a lot of times,
I am guessing unnecessarily. I believe these cookies should be set only once
in the root of the site. This happens for the CF and Google Analytics
cookies.

This issue appears to occur on CF9 in development and in CF8 on live. I have
tried different combinations of cfcookie and settings but nothing seems to
stop it happening. I believe that this issue is causes Internet Explorer
users to receive a blank page every now and again because the limit on the
number of cookies is being reached.

In our application.cfc we have used this code in onRequestStart() to set
UID, and cf vars

I have tried to use domain="www.biowishtechnologies.com" path="/" but it
makes no difference.

The application is set out like this:

We have also removed all cfcookie tags, and then CF set the jsessionid in a
cookie. This has no change. We also moved the cookie tags into the
onSessionStart, but again no difference.

I put some logging in to my on session start and on app start, and here is
what I found:

application set as follows:

creates one jsessionid cookie & 4 x GA cookies _utma _utmb _utmc _utmz (all
in lowercase)

go to a sub page

get an extra 2 x jsessionid cookies, 2 more sets of GA cookies but this time
the names are in uppercase

go to a third page

I get 3 more jsessionid cookies (now a total of 6, and now have a set of 8
utma cookies.

The logging suggests that the session stays, and that the onsessionstart is
only called once.

"Information","jrpp-11","09/16/10","13:06:45","LOCAL.BIOWISH.LOCAL","running
app new session"
"Information","jrpp-11","09/16/10","13:06:45","LOCAL.BIOWISH.LOCAL","running
app on req start"

"Information","jrpp-11","09/16/10","13:07:35","LOCAL.BIOWISH.LOCAL","running
app on req start"

"Information","jrpp-11","09/16/10","13:08:29","LOCAL.BIOWISH.LOCAL","running
app on req start"

--

The exact same thing is happening on live with the GA cookies too. This
leads me to think its not about the CF code. Why would the Google Analytics
cookies be replicated and increased each request?

Thanks!

Re: Consuming webservices using CF8

2010-09-16 Thread Olav Andreas Antonsen

I don't think the problem is related to the proxy, because I get the same
problem
when I try to consume a simple (local) test ws.

wsargs = structnew();
wsargs.refreshwsdl="yes";
wsargs.savejava="yes";
//wsargs.proxyServer = "proxy";
//wsargs.proxyPort = "8080";
//wsargs.wsdl2JavaArgs = "-D -v -w -W";
ws =
createObject("webservice","http://localhost:8500/eCID/ecws/ecoaa.cfc?wsdl",wsargs);

org.apache.xerces.impl.XMLErrorReporter.reportError(Unknown Source) at

The "sad" part is that I'm not having any problems consuming the same ws using
C# ;-(

Debugging my C# testapp reveals that this is the request I'm sending:

xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema";>

And this is the response I'm getting:

Wrapping text before writing to an image

2010-09-16 Thread Eric Roberts

OK...on to the next project...

We have a function that is currently using cfx_imageflare that creates an
800x600 black image and puts whatever text you want on it. If the text goes
longer than the image, it wraps it. Any ideas on how do do this in CF or
java? the CF Wrap function doesn't work for this purpose as the
ImageDrawText function doesnt seem to recognize line breaks. The only think
my searching found was a word wrap function in a class (that is an extension
of java.lang.Object called sim.utils.WordWrap...apparently this is not a
standard java library and I couldn't find any source to get a copy. I could
do something to break the quote up into several vars to simulate different
lines, but I would like something a litte friendlier than that ;-) I really
hate to reinvent the wheel if i don;t have to. If anyone has any ideas, I
would appreceiate it.

Eric

Re: cfquery not returning results with apostrophe

2010-09-16 Thread Jason Fisher

If it was MSSQL, you would want single quotes, so more like this:

SELECT viewname, categoryname FROM views LEFT OUTER JOIN viewcategories on
views.categoryid = viewcategories.categoryid GROUP BY viewname HAVING 0 = 0
AND categoryname IN ('''s') ORDER BY viewname ASC LIMIT 0, 300
Instead of setting your "havingClause" variable and messing with
preserveSingleQuotes(), can you just do this?

SELECT viewname, categoryname
FROM views LEFT OUTER JOIN
viewcategories ON views.categoryid = viewcategories.categoryid
GROUP BY viewname
HAVING 0 = 0
AND categoryname IN (  )
ORDER BY viewname ASC LIMIT 0, 300

Re: cfquery not returning results with apostrophe

2010-09-16 Thread Richard White

thanks, although the problem is there is no error to catch. when we run a
cfdump of the query, the sql is as follows:

SELECT viewname, categoryname FROM views LEFT OUTER JOIN viewcategories on
views.categoryid = viewcategories.categoryid GROUP BY viewname HAVING 0 = 0 AND
categoryname IN ("'s") ORDER BY viewname ASC LIMIT 0, 300

it just doesnt pull out the data, but if we copy it directly into mysql command
line it works fine

we do not even know how to trace the error as how can it work in mysql command
line but not in coldfusion? completely lost on this one!

If they told me it would be an *extra* $300 per *month*, I'd say

Re: Vmware and CF 8+

Russ,

240v power supplies run more efficiently than 120v. The voltage being double
doesn't mean it uses more electricity. It'll actually probably use LESS. The
fee is probably to do with logistics. They may not have 240v circuits run to
all their racks.

Re: CFFM 1.32 Released

2010-09-16 Thread Rick Root

It's this line of javascript causing the problem in IE

for (var class in classes2) {

Here's test code that errors at that line:

var classes = 'foo bar bar2 bar3 bar4';
var classes2 = classes.split(' ');
var actions =
'download,delete,rename,copymove,editimage,unzip,editfile,viewsource';
var arrActions = actions.split(',');
alert(classes2.length);
for (class in classes2) {
for (var action in arrActions) {
if ( classes2[class] == 'cffm-menu-'+arrActions[action] ) {
alert('ok');
}
}
}

Anyone know why IE is failing there?

RE: Vmware and CF 8+

2010-09-16 Thread Justin Scott

> Would it make sense to do this?

Absolutely! Several months ago we began consolidating some of our older
servers on to a Dell 2950 with 32GB and lots of RAIDed hard drive space. We
installed VMware ESXi on the base machine and then copied the ISO images for
our server installs. We use vSphere to manage it remotely. It doesn't have
all of the features of the paid VMware solutions, but it's enough to run a
bunch of virtual machines which all hum along nicely without any trouble.

I believe that ESXi only supports two processors though, so you likely
wouldn't be able to take full advantage with the free version.

Re: Vmware and CF 8+

2010-09-16 Thread Russ Michaels

Rick,

in the current climate companies have to be responsible for their energy
efficiency and carbon footprint, and data centres are increasingly aware of
this and often have strict guidelines with regards to power usage.In
addition power hungry servers like this will usually run quite hot, which
will overheat the rack. Each rack has a max voltage output and generally
should not exceed this.
So it may be that Brooks mega server is using the same power as 3-4 regular
servers, meaning that they can put less in the rack so as to stay within the
voltage and temp limits. the extra cost is probably to cover that loss.

Some data centres wouldn't even let you do it period.

Of course it may also be that he is not hosting directly with the data
centre as most hosts do not own the data centre, in which case the host also
has to adhere to the data centres restrictions and incur additional costs.

I've been digging on Xen lately. Before that I was using ESXi.

You can turn that machine into like, 4 to 8 VMs, easy, depending on
how much ram and processors you want to give each.

VMs freaking roxor.

Wow, and *extra* $300 for per *month* for an upgraded circuit?
Sounds like at least a very extravagant charge for a one-time
upgrade on their end, which *may* have cost $300 *one time*...

If they told me it would be an *extra* $300 per *month*, I'd say
forget that and find myself another spot for co-location.

Just .02 on that situation, but sorry, I have no advice on the
vmware aspect.

However, I can say that I could purchase the use of 3 complete
virtual servers running Win 2008 Server and CF8 or 9 and all the
support I need for the cost of your circuit upgrade of $300 per month.
(and about 18 months and zero downtime with my current VPS provider...)

If you are running windows 2008 then you don't need vmware, you have hyper-v
built right in, and as this is a new machine your CPU and mobo will have
hyper-v support built in as well.
I'd read on that first before you go making more work for yourself.

CFFM 1.32 Released

2010-09-16 Thread Rick Root

Okay, I've finished updating CFFM to version 1.32

- removed uploadify (flash based uploader), replaced with fileuploader
jquery plugin
- added context menus for file actions (delete, copy, download, etc)
- fixed a "bug" where CFFM didn't work in BlueDragon 7.1 becaue
bluedragon didn't auto-uppercase struct elements

Still compatible back to old versions of BD and CF (6.1) as far as I know ...

Demo: http://www.opensourcecf.com/cffm/demo
Download:  http://www.opensourcecf.com/cffm/download.cfm
Subversion:  http://svn.riaforge.org/cffm
Project Page: http://cffm.riaforge.org

Thanks.  Enjoy!

Dan,

If the problem is client vars it is not enough to simply switch it to a DB.
CF will still try to clean up the registry keys because, while client vars
are no longer stored there "by default", that storage is still available to
CF to use. I always manually delete that file or (more risky) remove the
registry from the defaults - by editing the xml file.

Sorry for being pedantic - there's every chance this is not even your issue

Re: Rounding Numbers

2010-09-16 Thread Phillip Vector

Couldn't you divide it by 1000 then round, then multiply by 1000?

I don't know if that will work and it's early in the morning, so the
code may be wrong, but I suspect you get the idea.

Rounding Numbers

2010-09-16 Thread Jeanmarie Richardson

Hi --

I need to round numbers consistently to the highest 1000. Is there a CF
Function that will do this? I found something called intervalRound from Rob
Rusher but it rounds to the nearest 1000 (rounding down in some cases) which is
not what I need. An example would be great!

Ok I switched it to use an empty database for the client vars.

Also I do have the option of dropping back to developer mode. I
googled and didn't see how to do drop back to developer mode, is this
an XML file somewhere?

Thanks for suggestions so far, all.

Or instead of using a variable, if you can just put the clause in the SQL
statement, let the list param do the work for you:

Consuming webservices using CF8

2010-09-16 Thread OLav Andreas Antonsen

I recently upgraded to CF8 and I’m not able to consume webservices from my
dev edition on my personal PC.

I have tried making my own simple test webservice, but I’m not able to
consume them using CF. (I’m able to consume the ws using .Net or Java, but
not from CF itself).

I always get the following error:

org.apache.axis.ConfigurationException: org.xml.sax.SAXException: Fatal Error:
URI=null Line=40: The string "--" is not permitted within comments.

This is the code I’m using:

wsargs = structnew();
wsargs.proxyServer = "proxy";
wsargs.proxyPort = "8080";
ws =
createObject("webservice","http://ws.fraudlabs.com/zipcodeworldUS_webservice.asmx?wsdl",wsargs);

I know that the WSDL is ok since the WS works in .Net and Java. I also know
that I can retrieve the wsdl using

http://ws.fraudlabs.com/zipcodeworldUS_webservice.asmx?wsdl";
result="myRes" proxyserver="proxy" proxyport="8080"/>

So why do I get the “The string "--" is not permitted within comments.”
error?

I know that
1. I get the same error for all ws I try to consume from CF, even simple
test ws made using CF.
2. The ws work, because I can consume them using .Net and Java.
3. CFINVOKE gives me the same error

Thanks,
Olav, Oslo, Norway

You should be looking at the actual SQL that is being sent to the
database. It would be provide clear evidence of what is wrong.

Looking at this line:

You may want to investigate the listQualify() function.

Russ,

You can remove the Registry manually from the XML config file and restart
the CF server... this will mean CF will not include the registry in the
purge - at least that was one point of my post. But some aps will specify
registry as the storage mechanism, so this could cause you other issues.

I would also add that it is actually not possible to STOP the registry being
used via CF. So if you have other sites on the server which you do not
control they could also be causing you issues.
In order to stop the registry being used you have to deny access to the
registry key to EVERYONE.
I have always used COOKIE as the default storage for years now and it has
worked fine.

2010-09-16 Thread Mark A. Kruger

Russ,

I would still move it to a datasource... see this post.

http://www.coldfusionmuse.com/index.cfm/2009/10/27/registry.bad.datasource.g
ood

Sometimes you are created entries even though you are not using client vars.

What makes me think this is that you are indicating that the only thing
running is the internal processes... the server is generally idle so
something the server does on its own is the culprit.

If you have the option to temporarily switch it to developer mode, you will
be aable to access the server monitor.

I'm with Rick. You should really change it up a wee bit so you can use
cfqueryparam. It has many advantages.

Re: cfquery not returning results with apostrophe

2010-09-16 Thread Rick Root

Aside from my trepidations about generating SQL like this because it
prevents you from using , what you're looking for is
#preserveSingleQuotes()#

coldfusion automatically escapes any single quotes in variables that
are within a tag so if your query SQL is a variable

select blah blah blah
from blah
group by blah
#preserveSingleQuotes(havingClause)#

Otherwise, the single quotes get doubled up and you'll get errors.

cfquery not returning results with apostrophe

2010-09-16 Thread Richard White

hi, we are running a cfquery with the following sql statement:

SELECT viewname, categoryname FROM views LEFT OUTER JOIN viewcategories on
views.categoryid = viewcategories.categoryid GROUP BY viewname HAVING
categoryname IN ("'s") ORDER BY viewname ASC LIMIT 0, 300

if we type this directly into mysql it works fine, similarly if we type it
directly into a it works fine. however the having clause is getting
built from following code and is causing the problem:

the problem is occuring due to the apostrophe '. we have tried
preserveSingleQuotes but still does not work.

is there any way around this?

thanks

RE: Web Service and SSL

2010-09-16 Thread Bobby Hartsfield

I believe you can add the invalid cert to the java key store to solve that.
I've done it a couple of times but would still have to look up the steps on
Google.

I'm invoking a web service that when browsed gives a security certificate
warning. This is a temporary issue and will be fixed. But to use it now,
does anyone know if there is a way to make the web service call ignore or
accept the certificate warning?

RE: Is there a way to force lock release on Access database? (CF9)

2010-09-16 Thread Bobby Hartsfield

If I recall, when we would need to upload a new copy of an MDB it would say
it was in use and not allow it. We would just run a bad query against it and
then it would allow us to overwrite it. " Select 1 from
soemTableThatDoesntExist"

Maybe that will work for you. It has been a lng time since I used an
Access database so it may or may not work anymore.

There is also the "Suspend all client connections" setting within the CF
Admin (there is for SQL Server datasources at least). I'm sure you can
change that value programmatically through the admin API.

I have to make an Access database containing updated data from my
SQLServer database, which can be downloaded by my users by FTP.I
can make the Access database a coldfusion datasource, and fill it up
with the data I want, but I need to release it from the lock
ColdFusion puts on it. Does anyone have a technique for releasing
that lock nowdays? (I'm using CF9 Enterprise).

IN CF5, which is the last time i used Access with ColdFusion, it was
a simple case of doing an invalid query but that doesnt work in MX
days. There was a non-documented function once as well ...
CFusion_DBConnections_Flush( )   ... but that's not valid in CF9.

Has anyone found a way to break that connection programmatically in CF9?
