RE: The 0 byte CFMail bug
It's still buggy. :-) It ran fine for me on my test servers during the beta cycle, but since I've put it on my production machines I find two or three blank files in the spool directory. They aren't zero byte and there isn't a CPU issue, but I can't figure out where they are coming from. Nothing changed on the server other than going from 4.5 to 5.0. I finally moved some of our Cold Fusion Access databases to SQL Server 7 on a separate server. Things are running well, but I notice that over several days SQL uses more and more memory. This is an old knowledge base article, but here's some info about configuring the data sources to minimize memory leaks: -- Please make the following performance tuning configurations within the ColdFusion Administrator. 1. Uncheck the "Maintain Database Connection" for all Access and SQL datasources. This should be done whether they are utilized or not. 2. The max buffer in all Access datasources should be set to 0. 3. RE: Service pack 6a?
I just have to chime in with my two cents here. Jochem makes an excellent point about being late with patching servers to fix a well-publicized security hole. I own and manage a small hardware store in a New York suburb. We have two small web servers, do some ecommerce and a bit of web hosting. Out ecommerce and web hosting make up about .5% of our annual revenues, so it's a TINY portion of our business. I subscribe to NTBugtraq, all the MS security lists, MS-Info, SANS newsletter, Website Talk (no .ida problems with Website Pro!), CF-Talk and CF-Community, and several others related to web servers. I install every patch, update, service pack, virus update, etc. Honestly, our Internet stuff is almost a hobby...so I'm constantly amazed when people who maintain servers and GET PAID FOR IT neglect to keep up with the latest security patches and updates. OK, back to cutting some keys and selling some grass seed. Performance questions
On the Allaire site, they have a performance tuning article that mentions the following registry settings under HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\TCPIP\Parameters: MaxUserPort - 0xfffe TcpWindowSize - 65535 MaxFreeTcbs - 72000 MaxHashTableSize - 65536 TcpTimedWaitDelay - 60 Has anyone made these changes? I assume that the last four are entered as Decimal values. I made the changes, and seemed to experience system slowdowns and CF timeouts after the changes. I removed the entries to see if things return to normal, but I jsut wondered if anyone else has tweaked these numbers. My server has 256 mb RAM, NT 4 Server. Thanks! I installed Forums on my server, and since then I've noticed that outgoing mail accumulates in the /spool folder. Any idea why the mail would sit for hours in that folder before going out? It appears that it might even sit until I do a restart of the CF Application Server program. Thanks! Rental reservation system
I'm about to embark on a rental reservation system for equipment, but it would probably be similar to video, auto, or other rental systems. Has anyone built one of these already, and if so can they point me to the application and/or email me with any tips or custom tags that might have made the job easier? I'm just starting to write the spec for the application, so even examples of working systems would help me get a feel for what I would want to include. Thanks! CFIDE access control
I had originally set up my Website Pro/Cold Fusion server with the /CFIDE directory protected by access control (user name/password). I figured this would be an extra level of security, but recently I realized that the Java.cab files are stored in /CFIDE/classes. Is it safe to leave the /CFIDE open, or should I set up a special access control for the /classes subdirectory? Thanks! Network login dialog appearing for some pages
When I access pages from a CF project I'm working on from some Windows machines, I get a login dialog in the browser. The dialog is the standard user/password, and the realm it shows the login for is "localhost". It happens for some of my Windows machines, but not all, and for some Internet users (but not all). If the user clicks on CANCEL they can view the page properly, so no name or password is actually required. The pages are all within a project that has a COM object defined in the application.cfm template. My is that this is what is causing the login to pop up... but I don't know how to fix it. The application.cfm code is: http://www.cornells.com/customerlink"> Any ideas? Thanks! RE: shipping costs
Laura, Since UPS only changes their rates once per year, you could always implement a "local" rate lookup on your own rate data. Our Able Commerce storefronts use a tag they created called Able Shipper. It consults rate charts on our own web server and avoids the UPS site bottleneck. I don't know if they make this tag available as a stand-alone, but they might (www.ablecommerce.com). That's when we contacted UPS. They now have these extensive "on-line" tools based on java, etc., that are just too time consuming to implement -- but, hey, they're free :) We're now trying to steer our customers to a standard shipping price as opposed to individually calculating shipping per order. Not all are happy with this, tho', so we are searching for alternatives. SQL query problem
I'm trying to do a query where I have data in two different formats... SELECT Customer, TransNumber, Date FROM test.Header Where Customer = "#session.customer#" The problem I have is that the value of #session.customer# contains the customer number (260) with no leading characters while the test.header Customer field comes back with leading 000 characters (000260). If I hard code it as "WHERE Customer = "000260" it works. My guess is that I need to do something to pad session.customer with leading zeros up the the length of the Customer field (which is 6 characters). I can't find a manipulation function that does this... any ideas? Thanks! RE: Newbie ASP to CF question
I managed to figure out the problem I was having with moving some ASP to CF... but I don't understand why. When using the .dll in an ASP page, I don't need to specify the host IP and port number: sResult = E4W.bConnect() However, in CF I need to do the following: The DLL is an MS VB 5.0 DLL. Any idea why CF would require the address and port to be specified while ASP does not? Thanks! Newbie ASP to CF question
I'm trying to get a .dll working within some CF pages. The original installation had an ASP page, so I have sample code that I need to convert. The following checks if we can connect to the "Eagle" system: Dim E4W Set E4W = Server.CreateObject("triadwebapi.cls3webapi") Initialize Sub ConnectToEagle sResult = E4W.bConnect() IF sResult = "FALSE" Then bDisplayMsg = True vMsg = "Unable to Connect to Eagle" End If End Sub I tried to do the same using CF with the code below: Unable to Connect to Eagle Connected to Eagle I get the following error: Arguments expected by object does not match arguments specified in the tag. Error building an argument list for: BCONNECT Any hints as to what I'm doing wrong? Thanks!
