Pause running code
Is there a simple way to pause a CF page for a set time at some point in the code then continue running it. I seem to remember seeing how to do this on a forum once - but can't find any reference. any help much appreciated. Re: Pause running code
Thanks for the very helpful replies I want to use this function for a workflow engine - where no user is present just for running various housekeeping tasks and grabbing XML webservices... so there would most likely be only 1 thread sleeping where required. Its on a hosted CFMX6.1. Would a hosted box throw a wobbly using martins sleeping function??? I'm also working in a shared hosted environment which has a big heap of SQL 2000 databases. I use an Access Project to connect to a 750 table database on SQL server - it works much better than Enterprise Manager which is so slow. Re: PostgreSQL database size
very interesting stuff Our issues are to do with history. NZERN has built this working legacy app (2000 pg's spagetti code) and is putting up a cheap to run mapservice using mapserver on another box. ESRI donated all the goodies couple weeks back (SDE, ArcIMS, ArcInfo9 etc) but I figure it will probably take 18 months to get that up on-line and working. The mapserver site will then migrate to ArcIMS. I've seen flash interfaces on ArcIMS and they seem to run much faster than the java stuff. Our main website which is a content management system runs on CF and we are hoping to put up an alternative flash remoting interface on that for users who want it. The CMS will call and insert the maps into the CMS pages both cf and flash. Well thats the idea. Thanks Paul and Jochem Thats the answer I was hoping for. We have a hosted server running PostgreSQL/PostGIS/Mapserver running at www.gis.bush.org.nz hosting by limelyte. But no inhouse experience with even installing PostgreSQL. We use MSDE2 inhouse but it has a 2GB limit. Being able to integrate CF with mapserver would be fantastic. Re: PostgreSQL database size
Thanks for your help Ubqtous I have a large 60GB data set of land parcel and related information for NZ which has to be imported from some kind of txt files. One table is apparently 5 GB. The data then needs to be transformed and then accessed via cold fusion on an in house server. I've seen reviews claiming that MySQL and PostgreSQL fall over at the 100GB limit - so kind of curious about the truth in that. I notice that Macromedia don't include PostgreSQL as a supported database fof Coldfusion MX6.1 Server but Bluedragon do. Hmmm curious Mike NZERN -- Original Message -- From: Ubqtous <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Mon, 29 Nov 2004 00:15:02 -0500 Perhaps you're looking for testimonials, but according to http://www.postgresql.org/docs/faqs/FAQ.html: 4.5) What is the maximum size for a row, a table, and a database? These are the limits: Maximum size for a database? unlimited (32 TB databases exist) Maximum size for a table?32 TB Maximum size for a row? 1.6TB Maximum size for a field?1 GB Maximum number of rows in a table? unlimited Maximum number of columns in a table?250-1600 depending on column types Maximum number of indexes on a table?unlimited Of course, these are not actually unlimited, but limited to available disk space and memory/swap space. Performance may suffer when these values get unusually large. The maximum table size of 32 TB does not require large file support from the operating system. Large tables are stored as multiple 1 GB files so file system size limits are not important. The maximum table size and maximum number of columns can be quadrupled by increasing the default block size to 32k. Re: Re templates held in database
Thats 400 cf content templates replacing 50,000 static web pages. There are another 200 CF tempates as well. Coldfusion has been our salvation. It really is great. The SQL 7 database sitting behind it has 370 tables, another 400 GIS data tables to add later this year. I'm teaching myself as I go. I'm looking for ways to make this website (with 200 applications accessable to members) managable. At the Macromedia MX launch in Christchurch today, I became convinced to add fusebox 2 by talking to Matthew Walker (contributor to CFTalk). Mike NZERN National Office Mail: PO Box 9000, Christchurch (03) 338-5451 E-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.bush.org.nz It sounds as if you don't need a database-driven site. I see no reason to 'build' 400 separate / independent pages just to store the data in a database. If lots of the data is similar, and you only have to build 10 or 20 templates, that might be a different story. Are these 400 pages of data unique? Are they related in some way that would give you benefits of using a database? At 05:12 PM 6/24/2002 +1200, you wrote: >It is tags. >Perhaps there is another way to approach this. Re templates held in database
It is tags. Perhaps there is another way to approach this. The website uses a standard CF template that includes 3 other templates using CFInclude (top, footer, bar) plus one with the content that is always different. The Content template querys are different, layout is different, some are lists, other based on a row in table. Grouping Query

Expected 1 Cant CF work off As [Year] I'm using Ben Fortas "ColdFusion 4.0 Application Kit" here is the initial query - SELECT tblOrgRef.OrgID, DatePart("",[RefDate]) AS [Year], tblReference.RefDate, tblReference.RefAuthor, tblReference.RefName, tblReference.RefPubNote, tblArticle.ArticleID FROM (tblOrgRef INNER JOIN tblReference ON tblOrgRef.RefID = tblReference.RefID) LEFT JOIN tblArticle ON tblReference.ArticleID = tblArticle.ArticleID WHERE (((tblOrgRef.OrgID)=1)) ORDER BY DatePart("",[RefDate]), tblReference.RefAuthor, tblReference.RefName; - here is the offending grouping query - #Year# http://www.bush.org.nz/article/#ArticleID#.html";>#RefAuthor#, #RefName#, #RefPubNote#, (#DateFormat(MyDate, "")#) -- Thanks in advance for any help Mike Peters NZERN Mail: PO Box 9000, Christchurch (03) 338-5451 E-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.bush.org.nz __ Why Share? Re: Maps
Hi Dave That seems a very workable solution. We have 2 sites. The main site is 50,000 static pages plus images. The coldfusion site and database back ends it within frames and is totally dynamic. I guess the CF site can mine the static one for maps with the system you suggest. Thanks Mike NZERN Mail: PO Box 9000, Christchurch (03) 338-5451 E-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.bush.org.nz You can give each map an X,Y coordinate number. Have a table with MAPID, XCord, YCord and FileName as the columns. Then, you can surround each map with links to the adjoining X,Y coords, hit the database to get the file names. You can populate the links dynamically using whatever sequencing method you use to assign the X,Y coordinates to each map. Re: Maps
Thanks Len for your suggestion We will still use ArcIMS accessed via a password area for community groups to change their maps. This will be hosted elsewhere. ESRI has been helping us out so would be a bit opportunist to "jump ship". The maps will be batch generated and stored as static jpeg files accessed via the coldfusion site for general public to look at or download. We have a solution dynamic mapping for Coldfusion using MapInfo as a dynamic map generator. the maps are gifs drawn in real time. zoom in/out, pan, find nearest, populate the map with various POI, etc, etc. it's of course an OEM tool need integration with your specific maps. >Our development box is win2000, access 2000, IIS 5, CF which matches our >hosting ISP.
