RE: XML with ColdFusion

I am glad you brought up this tag. I am curently playing around with it. I
have no problem getting xml from a query using cf2xml, my question is how
can I add a style sheet to the output to display html. I keep getting
errors. Is this even possible?

Hi,
Have a look at siteobjects.com's soxml tag (also available at the allaire
tag gallery) It use cfobject to invoke an instance of the msxml parser and
run the methods, (just like asp!).

I have a version that uses xerces instead of msxml (in case you have
Linux/Solaris CF server) if you want it, mail me off list and I can send it
to you (Its not in tag gallery yet as it is not fully featured yet)

OT SQL Server last time :-)

2001-06-14 Thread ibtoad

Yesterday i asked a very simple question about the datatypes of SQL Server
2000. I don't want to waste the time of the list with anymore SQL server
questions since this is supposed to be a CF list. So I would like to know
what book would be best for someone who knows Access 2000 very well and
wishes to migrate to SQL server 2000. There seem to be a lot of differences
in syntax between the 2.

Thanks in advance for your help,
Rich

OK I got it. Now that I have the primary key set with datatype int, the

You must set a field to be identity and not null. You can set its seed to
any number (start autonumbering at 1000 for example.)

Not really because the text labels do not fill the space alocated anyway.
The lables are centered with plenty of space around them.

RE: Query Help!!

OK I have resolved the problems I was having.

I have one more question about MS Access. I set a field to number and have
decimal places set to auto and it rounds the numbers to whole numbers. I
then tried setting the decimal places to 2 and it still rounded the numbers.
Whats the deal with this?

Sound like the data type for that field is not integer or currency as the
output would suggest. That's probably why you are getting the mixed results.
If it is possible I would convert the data and type in that field to
currency and you may get better results.

RE: Query Help!! Problems???

2001-05-11 Thread ibtoad

OK when I use:

select shiprate from shipratesdollars
where '#total#' >=shipfrom
and '#total#' <= shipto

I get multiple records returned.

When I get rid of the tick marks:

select shiprate from shipratesdollars
where #total# >=shipfrom
and #total# <= shipto

I get Data type mismatch in criteria expression.

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG??

HELP,
Rich

it's impossible to know what's wrong without knowing the values of the
session variables at any given time

You'll notice that you don't need to do a comparison on both numbers:
= #val(session.total)#

Either of these will return the one value you need

Also if you're sure the columns in the DB will always be sorted in ascending
order then just do this:
= #val(session.total)#

This time the first record in the DB where shipTo is greater than your
session variable is the one you want and will be the only one returned.

You may have noticed by now that you only need to have shipFrom OR shipTo in
the DB table, you do not need both :)

It seems like the quesry is only looking at the first digit in the shipfrom

I compare the entire number?

Macromedia has announced that Spectra 1.5 will be the last release to the
product. They will continue to sell and support Spectra 1.5 for two years,
and will then roll it over to a community supported product that I would
suspect would be akin to how the Allaire's Forums product went.

As for alternatives, we're taking a very close look at CommonSpot 2.0 by
PaperThin ( www.paperthin.com ). I believe that they're close to launching
a v2.5 if I understood correctly. At any rate, from what we've seen so far,
it's more mature and user friendly than Spectra was. Tomorrow and Monday,
we'll be having a couple of demos with them. Email me off list and I'll be
glad to give you my impressions then.

I spent 20 mins looking around trying to find information on the 'demise' of

product.

We are a web co that has been developing Spectra apps for our clients mainly
because of its content management (CM) functionality. With the demise of
Spectra, does anyone know of a reliable and robust ColdFusion CMS that is
commercially available?

RE: Ultradev & Studio

2001-05-04 Thread ibtoad

This is from the Allaire website:

Is the long-term plan to combine ColdFusion Studio and UltraDev?

We plan to continue to bundle ColdFusion Studio with UltraDev as we are with
ColdFusion 4.5 UltraDev 4 Studio and over time more closely integrate these
products. Our mission is to listen to users and build great tools for
ColdFusion developers. We recognize that different developers have different
needs, and that neither exceptional visual development tools nor superb
code-based development will solve the needs of all developers. As such, we
are firmly committed to improving the development experience for both.

That should clear up this discussion a little,

Actually, it is a completely different engine, but they have invested quite
a bit of effort in making it function the same as the old engine. :) In
fact, it is the same engine used for Internet Explorer on the Mac, which
would lead me to believe it is less integrated with the operating system. :)

I haven't got any hard facts to back this up but as far as I can see IE6 is
IE5.5 - there dont really seem to be many changes. It does seem to integrate
with os but apart from that i think its the same html engine.

Can i delete a directory and all of its contents? Im deleting a record from

I thought i could delete the directory and all of its contents at the same

Is this just an issue with Win98 or would it be the same story with Win2000?

I am disspointed in this 'improvement.'

Unlikely that CF version is the problem. There are many other factors that
come in to play when using other people as hosts, for example:

- MDAC version
- default client variable storage
- permissions such as CFFILE, CFREGISTRY, CFCONTENT, etc...
- custom tags directory
- load balancing in clusters

and many others. What exactly is the error that stops your app from
running?

You can cheat a little..
create a table that holds the cfid and cftoken. Add a field that is a
unique ID. Fill it with createuuid()..
Pass that unique ID to the payment processor, then when it returns, look up
the cfid and cftoken.. then cflocate to whereever you want.

You have to install the CFX_Http tag on your system to run this. I haven't
upgraded it to use the new features in the latest CFHTTP. Once the CFX is
installed, just run munchkinlan.cfm and follow the instructions

Dynamic Select Box??

2001-03-01 Thread ibtoad

Does anyone know of a custom tag that allows a 2 array select box that is
dynamically populated? Is this even possible? In other words, the 2nd
column will be populated differently depending on what is selected in teh
1st column with both columns being populated through output queries.

Any Ideas?

Subject: looking for CF host references

I'm looking for people's opinions on their cold fusion hosts. It is easy
enough to find pricing information on different hosts, but I'm interested in
finding out the quality of their service.

The main areas I consider are
1) How good is their customer service (i.e. how long are you put on hold)
2) How knowledgeable are their techs
3) How reliable is their service (amount of down time, configuration of
their servers etc.)
4) How much access you the developer are given to your site (i.e. control
panels)

Basically I want to find a good quality Cold Fusion host without having to
try them all first.
Any references to (non biased) articles on this subject would also be
greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Part of the problem is that when you store the private key totally off the
server as stated, such as, behind a firewall that lies behind the server,
protected from network entry, you have an issue retrieving the Credit Card
info for the sake of the user, which could be the problem in this case.
Encryption is not as much of a problem as decryption. You can set up your
network to allow decryption behind the firewall behind the server but that
means that you can't put the CC number in the form, which is what this is
normally used for. The server can't make requests to the other side of the
firewall, which is why the private key is safe.

Basically it's a big nasty mess. Besides, if your encryption scheme isn't
strong enough a hacker doesn't need a private key.

You could store the last four digits in the database unencrypted and send
that to the browser for user confirmation but your order processing would
have to be on the other side of the firewall.

Storing credit cards = bad.

Ok - here's the deal. For each share of Allaire we get .2 share of MACR and
3 bucks. S (as it stands now with MACR at $40) if Allaire goes above
11.00 a share (it finished at 10 1/8 in after market so it is not an
unreasonable suggestion) you'd better sell - because you will make less
money on the deal by holding.

NOT TO MENTION the folks like myself who bought before the freefall. How

depending on what URL the user reached the page from.

Thanks,
Rich

RE: Repeat Question still needing help

2000-12-27 Thread ibtoad

I want to upload files at a particular website but store them at a seperate
server where we have additional storage space. We would also like to be
able to query that database through our main site. So how can write a
query to a datasource that is on a seperate server?

I'm curious. What does CFFILE have to do with a remote database?

Perhaps you could explain the problem in more detail?

Maybe you've even got a technical spec? (crosses his fingers)

What kind of database? In general you can access a desktop or SQL database
if you configure it properly in ODBC. For desktop DBs I'm pretty sure that
the ColdFusion service needs to be logged in as a user with rights to the
other server.

Do you have access to the code of the target page?

All my tags and the find() and len() functions add and subtract
characters from the CFHTTP.FileContent variable...giving me parts of the web
page I want to display. Watch out, if the target page changes, your code
needs to change.

In my code the "Start" variable is where I start, the "Stop" is where I stop
and the "Headline" is that part of the page I want to display.

Rich,

To parse a web page you first grab the content with the tag, then
"read" the content using the CFHTTP.FileContent variable. In the code below
I use the find and len functions to figure out where to start and stop the
reading/parsing of the page.

This code works only when the page you are parsing is set up just like the
code. Where to start and stop depends on what piece of what page you are
trying to parse...if you want the entire page, it lives in the
CFHTTP.FileContent variable returned by the call. The online help
in CF Studio is worth a read to understand the tag.

Jeff:

This actually shouldn't be too difficult as long as you are good friends
with regular expressions. Michael Dinowitz actually used eBay as an example
for creating a Intelligent Agent at the 2000 Dev Conference last month.

The real problem with this is that one ebay changes their site, you have to
write all new regular expressions to be able parse the data.

I think you can get that code from either Allaire's Conference web site or
probably just by e-mail Michael.
