I would suggest CF Builder 3 (just released, and trial will revert to free ed), or Brackets. Hi Brian, Sorry for the delay in responding. First my message(s) didn't get posted until days after I sent them, then I was out of town last week . . . I was referring to a number of assorted issues with FTP in DW CS6 including connecting to remote servers, maintaing connections with remote servers, permissions on uploaded files changing when they arrive at the remote server, etc. Lots of folks reverted back to DW CS5.5 or earlier. I ran into that issue and adobe was no help either however I found a solution and can share the info if that's the problem your asking about? To Edit Coldfusion Files in Dreamweaver CC, DO THIS
Already posted this - but there seems to be a lot of confused folks (me too), so thought it needed a new topic In Dreamweaver CC: 1. Go to preferences 2. In the choose external applications section, hit the + and enter .cfm. 3. In the editor window, select your Dreamweaver app and make it the primary editor. Done and works just like before. I know - I've been using it all day. *Note*: if you enter .cfm in the Open in Code View list, you will be able to open CF pages in *ONLY* code view. Probably not what you want. So don't do that! Adobe really needs to just add a checkbox to choose Coldfusion if you want. Shouldn't have to jump through the hoops above. Write them a letter and bitch about it. I did. ~| Order the Adobe Coldfusion Anthology now! http://www.amazon.com/Adobe-Coldfusion-Anthology/dp/1430272155/?tag=houseoffusion Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/message.cfm/messageid:356005 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/unsubscribe.cfm

Dreamweaver cs5 tip
I have been having problems for a long time when closing dreamweaver... it would crash, or take forever and sometimes scramble some files and not be able to reopen. I looked all over for a solution but stumbled upon it myself.. It seems that I have too many files in my most frequently used site. (About 19,000).. So I created a new site that only has 1 file in it. Before I close dreamweaver, I change to that site, and Dreamweaver closes instantly, and starts up quickly.. then I change back to my working site! True, all of what I am working on is Windows based machines. The UI though is different in CS5 but I never found myself once trying to figure out where something went or how to do something different in it. My guess is in Windows it is nothing to fear, I'd not know for Macs since don't have DW installed on either of those. Hi Ray, I'm using CS3 right now. I had a look at the Adobe site to see what is new in CS5 I could benefit from. For example, I have a little bit of code that displays the contents of a query. I have it set to drop ten items in each column, then close the cell and start a fresh one. Works fine. Re: Dreamweaver CS3 Mac issues with opening files/changing code
Oh I've been through this. What the issue is is, DW *hates* p tags without closing /p tags. And opening a file with p tags, it will sometimes rejigger perfectly valid tags. Lost count of how many times I would start with /cfcase /cfswitch in my code and then save my changes, to find that those two tags had changed position - breaking the page execution. SO dumb. ~| Want to reach the ColdFusion community with something they want? Coldfusion 8 localHost, DreamWeaver CS4, CSS Caching problem
Has anyone else had this problem and solved it? Scenario is this: I have Adobe Creative Suite Standard CS4 installed on my Windows Vista laptop. I also have Coldfusion 8,0,1,195765 Developer edition installed. Then when saving a htm or cfm file in DreamWeaver while also displaying it on my CF Localhost in a web browser after I make a change to page and that also involves a change to a CSS file I get the following error: A sharing violation occurred while accessing C:\[name of the file] - where the file name is the htm page - not the CSS file. I searched the web and someone mentioned that it was a caching problem and they fix it by logging into CF Admin and going to the Caching page and clicking Clear Cache twice, then the submit changes button. And indead, if I do that, then I can click save in DreamWeaver and the error does not occur. You actually have to do the exact sequence in CF Admin to make the error go away. Any clue? It's trying to copy pages over to where they are web accessible, and in return being locked up by coldfusion because you have active requests or something on those pages, and dreamweaver is trying to do something spiffy when it copies your edits over to testing site. Perhaps people are not ignoring issues but simply are not experiencing the issues. Not one of the DW installations over here in this group has a single issue. Versions range from 8 to CS4. Not saying you and others are not experiencing legitimate issues. I actually have had more issues with Eclipse than I have had with DW but that is just me and it truly was not a ton of issues. If you're having problems, I would strongly suggest it's to do with you and your specific situation, not Dreamweaver, otherwise a great many more people would be having problems. One thing I would possibly look into is doing a system restore and roll back to a previous system state. I know that one of the patches for XP hosed my wireless network on my spare lappy and after I rolled back it worked fine. If it stopped working after an install or a patch that might do the trick. There are plenty of reasons for software to start flaking out. If it is an old XP install you might have a case of OS decay. http://www.google.com/search?q=OS+decay There are many ways to skin a cat (what a creepy phrase). If you simply cant afford to wipe the box you can try using a VM or a portable XP install until you can get thing in order or when you get the project finished. Or you can do a partial' reinstall. http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-reinstall-windows-without-losing-your-data/ Or you can use MojoPack (just install it on your hard drive or a portable HD). http://www.mojopac.com/ G! If i can jump in here... I've seen DW crash before and this is the reason, In DW CS3 go to View, at the bottom of the list you'll see display external files make sure this does not have a check by it. I think every version of Dreamweaver will allow you to display the contents of a CFInclude when editing. It's a major resource drain and should be turned off by default. Also unless you have an absolute need for it, turn off live data, again it's a resource drain. Re: Dreamweaver CRASHES!!!
I haven't had a crash at all. And i have that feature (display external files) turned on. So it's not necessarily an application killer in all cases, in the way the old CFStudio died whenever you tried to use the design view. Remember that?If you didnt completely disable that feature, there'd always be someone who would try it and wail loudly when everything came crashing down. I ditched DW when I switched to an AMD Turion 64x2 processor. DW spikes 50% on one of the dual cores and stays that way until a drop down menu is selected. The issue showed up on the Adobe boards, but there was never a resolution that I saw. I'm pretty sure this was only with CS3... but I never tried CS4 to find out. surely it couldn't be vista! ;) cfeclipse isn't difficult and there are plenty of blogs that show you how. 1. dl install eclipse 2. install cfeclipse, follow instructions on http://www.cfeclipse.org/download.cfm 1. Select the Help-Software Updates-Find and install menu option. 2. On the screen that is displayed, select 'Search for new features to install' and click the 'Next' button. Now click the 'New Remote Site' button. 3. Enter a name for the update site, for example CFEclipse. In the URL box, enter http://www.cfeclipse.org/update; and click the OK button. 4. You should now have a 'CFEclipse' node in the 'Sites to include in search' box. 5. Tick the 'Stable CFEclipse' box and click 'Next'. 6. Eclipse will contact the CFEclipse site and retrieve the list of available plugins. Tick the plugin with the highest version number and click 'Next'. 7. The next instructions are self-explanatory, agree to the license, install the software and restart Eclipse 8. Once Eclipse has restarted CFEclipse should have been successfully installed. 3. open eclipse and right click in navigator panel and choose new project 4. that brings up a window called select wizard, open up the cfeclipse folder and choose cfml project 5. new window called cfeclipse project: type in your project (or sites name), next if it is a new empty site and you want to use the default location hit next, if you want to use your own location uncheck the use default location box and choose your location. For example since I am on a mac I keep my web site folders in a directory called sites, so I brouse to that folder and go in and select my projects folder and hit next and you should be done. 6. open up the project in navigator pane and go to work. ~| Adobe® ColdFusion® 8 software 8 is the most important and dramatic release to date Get the Free Trial http://ad.doubleclick.net/clk;207172674;29440083;f Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/message.cfm/messageid:318595 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.4
Re: Dreamweaver CRASHES!!!
I have found Dreamweaver to be a very stable application. From version 8 to CS3 to CS4.If you were really interested in solving your problem, I'd get rid of it completely and start again from the beginning. I'd adivise: [1] Uninstalling it completely. [2] Delete any folders or files that might be left in the install directory [3] Delete any user preferences (in windows, they're in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS4\en_US\Configuration [4] remove any keys in the registry [5] reboot. Then you should have removed every reference to Dreamweaver. Then I'd advise starting again from the beginning. I suspect the reason your DW is crashing all the time is there is some remnant somewhere from a previous installation that's not being overwritten by a reinstall, or some corrupted file somewhere that's not removed by the previous uninstall. I have experienced DW crashing...but i don't think that was since the first or second version (5 6 I believe)that came out after Macromedia bought Allaire. I don't recall having that issue with 8. http://trac.cfeclipse.org/cfeclipse/ Currently CFEclipse does not work well with Ganymede (line numbers are broken). If you want stable - we recommend you continue using Eclipse 3.3 (Europa) for a stable user experience. http://trac.cfeclipse.org/cfeclipse/wiki/InstallingCfeclipse You must first have Eclipse installed. Re: Is Dreamweaver CS4 taking off as an IDE?
I've been using Dreamweaver since I've started playing around with web development. First stuff I did was a WYSIWYG ASP/MS ACCESS site which was really cool for me as I had no experience. After doing that for half a year I took some Macromedia courses (fast track SQL, FT Coldfusion MX, Advanced Coldfusion MX, Flash design, FT Flash Development, Ria Development CF Flash, yes I was a good Macromedia Training customer). Because I've learned to do everything with Dreamweaver, I never switched to CFEclipse. I've used it and sometimes during flex development when I need to change a cfc real quickly I use cfeclipse, but thats about it. It ll comes to what you're used to. Dreamweaver is a great product if you also do CSS work and other front end development. Also the integration with the rest of the suite (Fireworks and all) makes it an ideal tool for the allround developer. But just what I think of it, everyone is different and everyone has his/her likes and dislikes for development tool. Although I really look forward to the Bolt IDE, I will always have a Dreamweaver copy installed, just for the overall website management (upload/design/css) Michael van Leest 2008/12/12 Tom Chiverton tom.chiver...@halliwells.com CS4 an IDE ? Hey Tom, there's no need for more immature 'my IDE's bigger than you IDE'.Your IDE suits you. Terrific. But it's not a zero sum game. IT doesnt make any difference to anyone else which one you like. And if i like another IDE what do you care? You use yours. Great. I'll use mine.Who cares? What counts is does MY IDE work for ME in the kind of work i do. It might or might not work for you too, but I dont care. Your implied criticism just smacks of those stupid and very tiresome 'mac is better than pc no pc is better than mac' arguments that never got anyone anywhere As a development community we need a range of tools available to choose from. We know from every other aspect of IT life, that each choice has pros and cons and its up to each of us to weigh them up in our own circumstances and make a choice for us.A choice i should add which will never be perfect. The best we can ever hope for is that it be as close to perfect as we can get it. SO i dont care if you use the same IDE as me or not. If yours suits you, take a bow. It's got nothing to do with what i use or anyone else for that matter. You're not a superior human being because you use whatever it is you use. To me Spry has its places as does jQuery. I use both quite a bit, honestly use jQuery more so than Spry but certain things I find a lot easier to use Spry for so it is one of the tools in my toolbox. CS4 has support for each but I have yet to experience that support to really comment on it, just know it is there. I have heard some interesting things on how they can be integrated into a layout when using the WSYWIG features of CS4 but since I never use that feature then I will never really know how that all works. I can say from my experience teaching Spry that most folks who aren't too familiar with JS or Ajax find it quite easy to use. Personally I found Spry a heck of a lot easier to learn than jQuery. Of course, not every style of development will work for every developer. -- Aaron Rouse http://www.happyhacker.com/ ~| Adobe® ColdFusion® 8 software 8 is the most important and dramatic release to date Get the Free Trial http://ad.doubleclick.net/clk;207172674;29440083;f Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/message.cfm/messageid:316700 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.4
Re: Dreamweaver question
How does one get the buttons back above the filenames? Back in DW8 it had some tabs for things like HTML, CFML and so on then under each tab were buttons for common things like making an HTML table. The only thing I appeared to use quite often in there was the comment block for CF because I keep going to use it and realize it disappeared when I upgraded. Re: Is Dreamweaver CS4 taking off as an IDE?
And if i like another IDE what do you care? You use yours. Great. I'll use mine.Who cares? What counts is does MY IDE work for ME in the kind of work i do. It might or might not work for you too, but I dont care. Your implied criticism just smacks of those stupid and very tiresome 'mac is better than pc no pc is better than mac' arguments that never got anyone anywhere I think you're missing his point a bit. An IDE is more than an editor. Dreamweaver is arguably a great editor, but it doesn't have a lot of things that an IDE should have, such as line debugging. Adobe makes a line debugger for Eclipse, but not for Dreamweaver, indicating that they don't really see Dreamweaver as an IDE either. Tom mentions refactoring, which is something else you typically see in IDEs for OO languages, but you don't see in editors. And, as Mike points out, Tom's email signature isn't his fault. RE: Dreamweaver question
There really isn't a good way to do it. You are looking for the Insert panel. If you view that, you can hide the button labels and make the panel wide. However, you can't make the panel short (height) enough to simulate the DW8 button bar. Switch to the CODER PLUS workspace to find it. Personally, I would create a snippet/keyboard shortcut to wrap selected text with a CF comment.
