Hi Alex,
That all makes sense. What tho about users browsing to IIS, will they URL to
one or the other or both somehow via a load balancer?
Regards, Carl.

 - On BOX1 connect IIS to the local cluster

 - On BOX2 connect IIS to the local cluster

 Does this sound correct?
 Is there anything I overlooked?

I am having this problem with CF 8 and apache 2.2, did this issue ever get
fixed, if so, how?

This usually happens because of a connector failure. The webserver is
picking up the cfm file as text and sending it to the browser without
being rendered by the CFMX server.

Check your connector config...

Re: CFMX 7 - Oracle CLOB / cfstoredproc

2008-10-14 Thread pmolaro
I was having the same issue. I was getting a clob back and then couldn't
figure out out to get the content to display. One of our Java guys helped
me figure this out. So what I learned is that a CLOB is an object and
there are a lot of attributes to it, including the actual character values
which is really what you want in the end. That little output you saw is the
object's string identifier. So in Coldfusion, to get the character set we
had to create a Java string object and pass the clob into the constructor.
It seems the constructor recoginizes that the value is a clob and when it
creates the string it assigns the char set as the value. The end code was
(using your example):

cfset x = CreateObject(java,java.lang.String).init(myXMLOutput)

cfoutput#x#/cfoutput

I have been messing with this issue all day - searched around without

to work (test.xml is a simple xml file):

 **
 cffile action=Read
 file=C:\testing\Test.xml
 variable=variables.myXMLInput

 cfstoredproc procedure=TESTCLOB datasource=MYDNS
  cfprocparam cfsqltype=CF_SQL_CLOB type=In
 value=#variables.myXMLInput#
  cfprocparam cfsqltype=CF_SQL_CLOB type=Out
 variable=variables.myXMLOutput
 /cfstoredproc

 cfoutput#variables.myXMLOutput#/cfoutput
 **

The stored procedure is just copying the value passed in into the output
variable. I've tested the procedure through PL/SQL developer and it
 works fine.

The output of the above test code is this:
 [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I realize what this is - the default ToString of a Java object - the
address changes every time I refresh. The question is, how do I get to
the value of the CLOB from this variable? I've tried to do a CFDUMP of
the variable, but it actually causes CF to crash. Through debugging I
can see the input was handled correctly - just can't get to the output.
 Any help would be appreciated.

 MG

Maybe someone can help shed some light on a frustrating problem with CF
i have, the windows services (CFMX AS) keep randomly stopping. I've
deleted one of the instances and recreated a new one which seemed to
stabilize that particular windows service for a few days (coincidence?),
now it's up to its old tricks again.

I have 3 CFMX windows services and each one will just suddenly stop
randomly, sometimes 2 will drop, other times it's just one which dies.

Has anybody else experienced this? if so any help getting to the bottom
of this will be well appreciated.

I'm not sure if you'll be able to avoid reinstalling CFMX simply because I
haven't done such an upgrade. However, you can simply back up and restore
your CFMX settings if necessary, so it shouldn't be a problem.

What should be the expected behavior? When a node in the cluster comes
down should the CFMX throw and error or automatically switch to the other
node? We are doing some testing and when a node comes down we get a cfquery
error. However, wait a minute and hit refresh and the page continues to
work.. Is this the correct behavior? I guess I was expecting a slight

Am I off base here? Or is there something else I am missing?

RE: CFMX 7 - Java class reloading

2007-12-06 Thread Rich
Do Java classes automatically get reloaded when placed in the default
 location of C:\CFusionMX7\wwwroot\WEB-INF\classes?

No, you must restart the server instance. I don't know if this has been
suggested, but another route is to use a URL classloader to avoid having to
restart the instance. See Mark Mandel's excellent JavaLoader
(http://www.compoundtheory.com/?action=javaloader.index).

You can manually run the garbage collection via the service factory if I

quick google search would get it too.

RE: CFMX 7 - Jrun 100%

2007-10-25 Thread Jenny Gavin-Wear
Back to the drawing board.

It is a Verity collection indexing process that is causing Jrun to run high.
I have it set as a scheduled hourly event.

I have two Verity collections, let's call them Site A and Site B.

Site A has been up and running for about 2 years. I added Site B last week.

Indexing for Site B is running fine. Indexing for Site A causes Jrun to run
at 100%.

I have tried deleting then recreating the Site A collection, but as soon as
I run the indexing Jrun again runs out of control.

Does anyone know what I can do to resolve this please?

Many thanks,

Jenny

Lots of things could cause JRun to max out, including but not limited
too; bad code or client variable clean up.

Check your logs to see what's going on.

No, you don't need to have CF6 installed to upgrade to 7. After you
stick in your CF7 upgrade key, the install process should detect it's
an upgrade and simply ask for your CF6 license key.

RE: CFMX 7 - Jrun 100%

2007-10-24 Thread Gaulin, Mark
If you have access to the web server (remote desktop is great) then you
get an extremely useful thread dump of the jrun server process using the
steps described below... They talk about CF 6 but it applies to CF7 too.

SUMMARY:

Try to get a stack trace (technote 18339 -
http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_18339)

When you see it start to spike, set focus to the DOS Window and hit
Control+(Pause/Break) (not control-C which everyone does by instinct -
that kills JRun).

One thing: For 6.1 at least, you don't have to run jrun from the command
line; if you change the service to interact with desktop and restart
it, it will
open a command window and you can ctrl-break in it to create the dumps,
which go the one of the jrun log files. You need to be able to connect
to the machine's desktop to use this approach though.

Thanks
Mark

Hi Steve,

The JDBD connector that comes with CF is a thin connector so no RAC, but that
doesnt mean anything for you. Just install the Oracle client software on your
server so i.e. SQL Plus works that will also install the Oracle ODBC drivers.
Create a System ODBC connection called i.e. ORACLE_myDBSID and in the
ColdFusion Administrator make a connection to the ODBC connection called
DB_ORACLE_myDBSID. As long as your Oracle TNS file is setup for RAC your all
set, it works great! Any questions feel free to email me [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Officially CF7 isn't supported on Vista (CF7 arrived nearly two years before

Re: CFMX 7 / Vista

2007-08-07 Thread Jeff Chastain
Randy,

It is possible, but it takes a bit of extra work. In order to get the
installer itself to run, you have to right click on it and select 'Run as
Administrator'. Then, once the installer does run, you will have JVM issues as
the JVM that comes with Vista is newer than what CFMX 7 can handle. So, you
will need to install JVM 1.4.2 and reconfigure CFMX to look there. In order to
get the service and ISAPI mappings working, there are a couple of command line
scripts you will have to run, again using the lower JVM version.

I had an article in one of the last editions of CFDJ that talked about running
CFMX 7 and CFMX 8 side by side and most of it applies for Vista as that is what
I am running on as well. Check this out ...

ok...i'm hoping someone can shed some light on this issue. i have a

query, writes a text file, and then kicks off a perl script. i have
outputfile set in the cfexecute tag and the file gets generated, but its
empty. there are no errors in any of the cfmx log files. there are no
error messages in /var/adm/messages (this is a solaris 9 box).

what reasons are there why this task works when i run it manually, but
not when the cf scheduler runs it?

i hope this is enough info.

Re: CFMX memory usage under load : is this normal?

2007-06-05 Thread James Holmes
Yes this is normal. Our busy SPARC server has a 2.5 GB JVM and frees
over 600MB when it does a GC. It does this at roughly 30 second
intervals or so, like your figures show.

On 6/6/07, Terry Ford [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
I've never actually paid much attention to CFMX's memory usage before, but I
just started monitoring our memory, and I'm a little unsure whether what
we're seeing is normal or not.

 Setup: CFMX6.1, linux ES4, 800MB Xmx. Server averages 30 templates/second.
Cached queries set to 0 (same thing happens for different values of cached
queries anyway). I'm noticing the same behavior on CF8 pub beta.

 Monitoring java.lang.Runtime.getRunTime()'s freeMemory()

Here's a sample of our free memory output at 5 second intervals:
 493mb
 356mb
 66mb
 66mb
 59mb
 350mb
 57mb

Over the course of a minute, the free memory value is flying all over the
place. It dives down to 50mb or so, and then I assume the GC cleans up and
it's back up in the 350+s. Then it drops rapidly back to 50mb, and flies
 back up again.

The app is not doing anything that I'd consider memory intensive. Lots of DB
queries, but none are that large memory wise. 100 rows here, 2 rows there,
but done many times each minute.

There is no notable strain on the server (pages load fast, server load avg is
low), but I'm wondering if this is symptomatic of a memory problem/leak
somewhere, or if it's completely normal for a loaded server to be allocating
and freeing memory at such a frantic pace.

Re: CFMX memory usage under load : is this normal?

2007-06-05 Thread Terry Ford
Thanks.

I guess the developer in me isn't quite comfortable with so much temporary
object creation and destruction. CFMX pools db connections and threads; why
not pool query objects, instead of instantiating new ones on each request?

Looks like the JRE creates and destroys new query objects for every single
request that touches queries, creating lots of memory garbage. Easy to show
this by performing queries and printing free allocated mem after each.

I would think that a more efficient method would be to have a query object pool
that gets allocated once and used by threads on demand (you'd have to bound
query result size). That way you could reuse the same query objects and take
pressure off the GC.

Surely your application doesn't really need to temporarily allocate and free
600MB of memory every 30 seconds? Or is this object-creation-happy use of
memory cleaned up by the GC actually more efficient than reuse would?

The current usage of memory just seems wrong to me.

Yes this is normal. Our busy SPARC server has a 2.5 GB JVM and frees

Hello,
I'm not sure what to do my CFMX servers running on RHEL AS 3 are

Is there something I can check?

Re: CFMX 7.0.2 Pro, Orace 10g R2, Ref Cursors, Stored Procs

2007-03-28 Thread James Holmes
You have 3 choices:

1) Get Enterprise
2) Buy the DataDirect Oracle driver and install that.
3) Write your own JDBC driver

I'll assume that 3 is out of the question. As for the other two,
getting Enterprise is the better investment, considering the feature
that it offers.

On 3/29/07, Nathanial Thelen [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
I have installed all the latest hotfixes and data direct drivers. I have the

cursors to return from a stored procedure on coldfusion professional. The
 error I get is:

 THIN OCI:

 ODBC:
 [Macromedia][SequeLink JDBC Driver][ODBC Socket][Microsoft][ODBC driver for

Enterprise works every time but we are talking about almost a $5000
difference per server just for Oracle connectivity. Any ideas?

Re: CFMX Enterprise, JRun and Flash Remoting

2007-03-02 Thread adrian lynch
Did you find the solution to this?

Adrian

We recently upgraded our ColdFusion server from Pro to Enterprise and
now we can't seem to get Flash Remoting working. When I browse to
flashservices/gateway I get a blank page, but when I try to connect to a
service from the Flash Service Browser I get the following error:
Service threw an exception during method invocation: No service named
myservice is known to Flash Remoting MX.

This is a multihomed Windows 2003 server. JRun is connected to IIS and
ColdFusion is deployed as an .ear.

I've seen a few items in the archives and on the MM site that deal with
Flash Remoting on multihomed ColdFusion Pro, but I can't seem to find
anything on Enterprise.

I've gone through this checklist in this Flash Remoting TechNote
(http://www.macromedia.com/support/flash_remoting/ts/documents/cfmx_fr_c
hecklist.htm) and noticed I didn't have the flashgateway.ear deployed. I
tried deploying that ear and I still get a blank page when I browse to
flashservices/gateway, but I still can't find my services.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

There's probably other things, but thats a starter for 10.

As far as the former, the site can only be accessed by

Just to clarify, since it seems to get asked a lot...it is localhost +
the first 2 IP addresses to hit the box after CF starts. If you want it
to be a different 2 IP addresses, you can just shut down CF and restart it.

RE: CFMX Developer Edition

2007-02-13 Thread Eric Roberts
It limits the number of IP addresses that can access the server. Once you
have achieved that limit, no other IP's can hit the server without you
restarting CF. I think the limit is localhost plus 2 or 3 others.
Otherwise...it is the same as a licensed version.

I believe this means that the CF server crashed and was restarted. I
believe this is done automatically by windows. Check the server logs around
the same time and see if there are any exceptions. Also try monitoring
stuff with SeeFusion or FusionReactor. Make sure you're not running out of
ram. FusionReactor has crash protection settings which might help you if
memory is your issue.

Re: CFMX 6.1 and FC5?

2007-01-30 Thread Paul Huml
Has anyone been able to get CFMX 6.1 installed on CentOS 4.4?? I can get CFMX
7 installed, no issues, but CFMX 6.1 is giving me fits... I abandoned it two
weeks ago, but would like to try again.

Thanks!
~Paul

Please confirm the name of the missing library. I believe it may be
libc.so.6 not .5.

Using the rpm command it can be determined which package should have
installed a file. Try rpm --query --redhatprovides filename (ref 1).
On a RHEL4 system, /lib/libc.so.6 is installed by the glibc-2.3.4
package, same as CentOS.

I don't have my FC5 installation in front of me, but I believe it has a
newer glibc version. Checking Fedora package list I see it has 2.4-11
(ref 2), and it does appear that 2.4-11 should have installed libc.so.6
(ref 3). You may want to confirm the missing library name, confirm the
package which should have installed the library, and then install that
package.

On the topic of distributions, if you must run a distro which is
unsupported by Red Hat and unsupported by ColdFusion, then I would
recommend CentOS rather than Fedora. Even Red Hat will tell you this.
CentOS is a legal clone of Red Hat Enterprise Linux so Cent shares the
same stability, reliability, and security as RHEL (ref 4). Fedora on
the other hand is a bleeding edge distribution with the most bells and
whistles and features which have not necessarily been tested to the
extent that RHEL is tested. Since ColdFusion is supported for use on
RHEL4, while you cannot open a support ticket with Adobe for support of
CF on Cent, you can assume that CF will install and run the same,
whereas results with Fedora will be in question.

For the last 2 months I have been using ColdFusion MX 7 on CentOS (among
other OSes), and have been very satisfied.

RE: CFMX 6.1 Session Variables and Stored Data Question

2007-01-16 Thread Dave Watts
Hello everyone I am new to the house of fusion and look
forward to communicating with everyone. I am using
coldfusion MX 6.1 and have noticed several references in many
articles that puzzle my mind. The first one includes that
session variables are referred as shared data. The second
one includes the statement Coldfusion Server will fail under
load if you do not utilize cflock around your session variables.

Those references may be somewhat out of date.

Session variables are specific to a single user (or more accurately, a
single browser), but they are shared in a sense - they are available
automatically for any requests made by that browser. It is quite possible
for the browser to submit more than one request simultaneously, so the
potential exists for concurrent access to those variables.

In CF 5 and earlier versions, it was very important to limit concurrent
access to these variables, along with Application and Server variables, so
you would need to use CFLOCK in many cases to prevent failure under load.
However, in CFMX 6 and higher, it is no longer necessary to use CFLOCK to
prevent this failure under load. The possibility of concurrent access
changing variables in potentially unexpected ways, which is generally called
a race condition, still exists, so you may want to use CFLOCK to prevent
this.

RE: CFMX datasource connection metric

2007-01-10 Thread Dave Watts
We have CFMX 7 deployed in a Jrun instance. I need to be able
track the number of connections in use for a given CFMX datasource.

I have metric turned on in Jrun and can succesfully track a
 Jrun data source via:
 attribute name=metricsFormatJDBC timeouts:
 {jdbc.suny_enrollmgt.timeouts} pool size:
 {jdbc.suny_enrollmgt.poolSize} active connections:
 {jdbc.suny_enrollmgt.activeConnections} query duration:
 {jdbc.suny_enrollmgt.queryDuration} query
 count:{jdbc.suny_enrollmgt.queryCount}/attribute \

But when I replace suny_enrollmgt with the CFMX datasource
name it fails to log anything.

 How can I do this?

I think you can use JRun datasources directly within CF. You could change
your CF datasources to JRun datasources for monitoring purposes.

I have an idea for a free ColdFusion server product that would I like to put
out there for discussion : A CF runtime server

The runtime server is like the CF server, but with no compiler.
You develop and compile your web application on a licensed product, and then
package it up as a sourceless deploy. This could then be put on a server
with the CF runtime product.

ISPs would then be able to provide Free CF hosting and be able to compete
with PHP and ASP, and Adobe would still get to sell licenses.

Cheers,
Andrew

RE: CFMX on Apache 2.2 on Cygwin?

2006-12-29 Thread Dave Watts
I was figuring that it might be easier to manage, given I'll
be running other tools under Cygwin. Actually use of Cygwin
started from a need for a good way to SSH into the server and
to have a full shell environment. It is a good point,
 though, maybe I should reconsider..

I think that running a web server through Cygwin is a bad idea when native
versions of the same web server are available.

  What's wrong with Putty?

PuTTY is an SSH client, not a server. I need a server.

Oh, sorry. I thought you were using Cygwin as an ssh client, not a server.

Re: CFMX on Apache 2.2 on Cygwin?

2006-12-28 Thread Adrian Moreno
I've had CFMX 6.1 running on both Apache 2 and JBoss on Cygwin for development.
I've also got CFMX 7.0.2 on Apache 2.2, but just in Windows.

If you're going to use Apache 2.2, make sure you read this TechNote as there's
a newer connector than the one that ships with the CFMX installer.

HTH,

Adrian

Has anyone tried running CFMX with Apache 2.2 on Cygwin, or any version of
Apache for that matter? Thanks.

Ok, I have to ask. Why? Apache runs perfectly well under Windows, why
would you want to run it in a Unix emulator? I'm sure you've got a good
reason, I'm just curious what it is.

Re: CFMX CFMAIL and message-ID

2006-12-24 Thread Matt Robertson
It has done this since CF went to Java in 6.0. To get around it
you're going to have to bypass CFMail entirely, or change your forum
software to look at a different header that you then insert.

Unless someone knows a way to defeat this from the Java side?
