RE: Calendar Application to Consolidate Many Nonprofit Organizations

2009-05-21 Thread Nick Gleason

Hi Chris. Our application (see www.citysoft.com) provides this kind of
functionality. It's CF based, but not free unless your client qualifies for
our donation program (www.citysoft.com/donationprogram). I expect you might
need to tweak it a bit to meet your exact requirements, but the scenarios
that you describe below are pretty well covered. Feel free to contact me
off list for more info.

Chris, I built an SaaS app called Calabunga that might be able to do what
you're looking for. There's a 30-day free trial that's full featured so you
can test it out. Hit me up offline if you have any questions.

Yes, as I mentioned in my original post, but my experience with this,
after some experimentation, is that it can't handle importing more than
about a half dozen calendars into one master calendar. I'll go back and
look at it again, though, since it's been almost a year since I last
played with it. Maybe they've bumped up the number of calendars that can
be merged into one.

Thanks for the lead, but this app (and others that I've looked at so
far) don't seem to have the ability to allow remote sites to display
their data or manage their calendar data except by logging into the one
site where it's running. I was just fishing to see if any such calendar
app exists that would allow this capability. I've not messed with web
services yet, so this might be my first leap into the frying pan. :)

Cheers.

Have you considered (Since your doing it for free) using Google Calendar?
It already has a ton of tools built into it, you would just need to
implement it on the site.

Jason,

Sorry if I didn't make myself clear. The calendar as written highlights
the current date (today's date) only and is linked to the master events
calendar for that given week. What I would like to do is have all the
dates active and linked to their perspective events. I have attached the
entire code.

Not sure what you're looking for Steve ... just the syntax for adding your
'dayview' value to the URL string? Also, as a side note, you can get rid of
most of those # signs ... The following will add your computed date to the URL
string in a 'safe' format, passing it as a variable called 'date':

I searched google and also the following site
http://www.bennadel.com/blog/877-ColdFusion-Calendar-Event-Scripting-Inspired-By-Peter-Bell-.htm

This site is really good but doesn't cover the part which I am looking for.

My approach is following
-
PatternbaseTable
---
Pattern Id--> 0,1,2,3
Pattern value --> daily,weekly,monthly,yearly

EventTable
-
Pattern Id,
Start time
end time
start date
end date
isRecurence --> which indicates if it is recur event or not.
no_of_occurence
counter --> to keep track on number of recurrences which are over

EventPattern

Patternid Primary value secondary value
--
0 [ Daily ]  2NULL --> This row means event is daily
and will recur every 2 days
0 [ Daily ] NULL   1 --> This row means recur every
 weekday
1 [ weekly ]  2   MTW --> this row indicates recur every
2 weeks and the days are M
  [ monday] T [ tuesday ] and
  [wednesday]
2 [ Monthly ] xxx --> I am not clear on how to
   fill for monthly
3 [Yearly ]   xxx   --> Not clear

So i want to know if my approach is clear. If yes then what values should I fill
for monthly and yearly.

For monthly I am having the options like
"The first sunday of every 3 months"

For yearly I am having the options like
"The first week of march"

The values "first" "sunday" are shown in the drop down list.

So any expert suggestions.

Thanks
Ravi

You might find this link helpful:

It discusses the "How-to" of recurring events.

What a group! You guys sound like you are terrified of helping a newbie, yet
you pass code back and forth between each other without inhibition. I
suppose you were all born knowing CF and SQL so you never needed help from
anyone to understand the principles involved.

Ravi, don't forget to try Google for answers, too.

Re: Calendar with Recurring Events

2007-10-28 Thread Mike Kear
Jake, I built one - it took me ages because i kept changing my mind
about how to handle recurring events. I've built it about a dozen
times now. Here's what I settled on (it has advantages and
disadvantages - there was no clear winner in the contest to find the
best way to do it, which is why it took so long to do)

I have a event table, which contains all the details of the event
itself - event name, venue, image name, ticket price, link to 'more
info' web site, etc etc.

And a eventDate table, which has the date(s) this event will occur
on. This table links to the event table with a foreign key to the
event table.

In the input side, the user first completes the event details, then is
passed to a dates page and can enter the dates for the appearance as
far forward as they want.

The recurring options included are :

Daily for X days
Weekly for x weeks
fortnightly for x fortnights
Monthly for x months
Bi-monthly for x occurrances
quarterly
6 monthly
annually
on the (first, second, third, forth, fifth) (dayof week) of the month
starting from (date)

The tricky bit was the way to handle the recurring aspects. And i
finally settled on creating a single event in the events table, and
multiple dates in the eventDates table The action page inserts date
records in the eventDates table the appropriate number of times based
on what is selected on the dates options page.

The calculation of the dates forward is handled by a
EventDatesGatesDAO.cfc which has methods that can figure out the
dates on each interval .. i.e. give getdateWeekly() a date and it'll
return a date object with the date a week hence. Give
getdateFortnightly() a date and it will return a date object of two
week's hence. Give getYearForward() a date and you'll get back the
same day a year hence. GIve getnextnthofmonth() a date, the nth, and
a day, and it'll return the date of the nth day (e.g. 3rd monday) in
the next month after the date given.

It's not perfect, but it is a series of compromises for me.

The drawback with this approach is that if the user changes the text
of the event, it's changed for all occurrances. For example, if they
change the details of the listing to show 'Special Christmas meeting",
then the listing in the March calendar will also show "Special
Christmas meeting"

But i decided that was a lesser evil than creating a whole event
record for each date, and then if for example the venue changed (which
happens often in this organisation), the user would have to go through
and edit every occurrance of that event in the future.

Once you have the database containing the events records and the
dates/times they're to appear on, the display side of it is fairly
straightforward.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Very nice, but it doesn't do recurring events as far as I can see.

The Vivio Calendar does this. You can even add recurring events that
happen on out-of-order dates.

RE: Calendar with Recurring Events

2007-10-26 Thread Ryan J. Heldt
Hi Jake-

A couple years back, I was involved with a project where had to do this
exact thing for a client. Here's a few things that might help get you
started. The calendar allowed for both recurring and concurring events,
although I don't have the ability to do recurring events that span multiple
days (yikes!). Here's the basic database structure I used. There's actually
more, but I left only the parts that deal with recurrence:

Events
--
EventID (int) PK
Name (varchar)
StartDate (date)
EndDate (date)
Recurring (boolean)
RecurringValue (int)
RecurringInterval (varchar)
RecurringEndDate (date)
RecurringParentID (int)

EventDays
-
EventDayID (int)
EventID (int) FK
DayInterval (int)

Obviously, when the Recurring field is true, then we're dealing with a
recurring event. RecurringValue and RecurringInterval work together, so
let's say you have an event that recurs every 3 days, RecurringValue would
be "3" and RecurringInterval would be "day" RecurringInterval can be day,
week, month, or year. RecurringEndDate is the day when the recurring event
ends, obviously. In my system this is optional, so a RecurringEndDate that
is NULL never ends! RecurringParentID is used when there is a split, either
if someone changes information about the recurring event mid stream (like
"apply these changes to this and all future dates") or deletes a single
occurrence, etc. That's really one of the biggest pains in the system is
dealing with those.

The EventDays table keeps track of things like lets say you want an event to
take place every two weeks on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Then I would
have three DayInterval entries for 2 (Mon), 4 (Wed), and 6 (Fri) in the
database. It also keeps track of Monthly settings like "Every second Tuesday
of the week."

I hope this helps get you going in the right direction. I would love to
share the code base with you, but don't think the client would appreciate
that much, but please let me know if you have any more questions and I'll be
happy to help!

Tim I developed a small calendar app a while ago that could do this. It uses a
database for the events, but could easily be modified to do what you want. You
can download it at http://www.lyonsmorris.com/test/calendar.zip.

You can see examples of the calendar at
http://www.lyonsmorris.com/GLM/Calendar/index.cfm
and
http://www.mydinnercompany.com/schedule.cfm
(BTW I didn't do this site, just supplied the calendar module).

RE: Calendar Application

2005-11-17 Thread Peterson, Andrew S.
At www.springfieldfirst.com/calendar.zip is a 1.2 MB file containing the
calendar. The DSN to set up in the Administrator is Calendar (which
connects to calendar.mdb), and you can log in with admin/admin.

Lemme know if you have any problems. It's a great little calendar that I
didn't write :-)

Sincerely,

Andrew

I started to build one for a project that used Simon's Calendar API.

Then the last time this was asked on the list I saw this calendar mentioned
but never tried it.

Re: Calendar

2005-06-07 Thread Greg Benson
AS Rey posted here is information on my coldfusion calendar. Thanks for the post
Rey!

I have two web calendar products that have been developed and
upgraded, since 2000. The Current version is 1WebCalendarV3.3

One is a LITE version for only $19.99. This supports cf 4.5 and above
and comes with a MSAccess 97 database. This calendar has a single
user login to add/edit data.

The FULL version offers the features of the LITE version and has many
more features, like multiple users document uploading and the option
to make events only appear for certain users. This one starts at
$39.99

To view the demo go here:
http://www.bensonITsolutions.com

And click into the calendar demo. This also has more information on the
differences between the LITE and FULL versions.

Other notes:
Currently the image display is not working in the lite version(on the demo
only), but this does work in the full version.

You can change the color style sheet to one of several preset ones by changing a
variable in the application file. The directory path and data source info are
also here for easy configuration.

Both products are open source, non encrypted coldfusion calendars
that are easy to modify and fit into your site.

These have not been completely tested with cf7, but should work ok.
Support for basic questions is available via email.

Let me know if you have any questions,
Greg

Larry,

I would like to join the "Me Too" club as well. I have a javascript

your calendar for possible replacement.

Thanks

Re: Calendar

2005-06-06 Thread Tony Weeg
larry...

im close, but not done with my version, or i'd offer that up.

however, im close, and i just have to get my wifes website done first.

you can view what ive got so far at

www.mydinnercompany.com

you can look at the schedule by clicking, well, on the schedule link.

my plan was to make this a cfc that spits out a calendar object, complete
with some other values (a string of events, and id's) and then make that open
source, with the sql for the table of events, etc...

no time... but you can see where i am so far there.

later.

RE: Calendar table layout issue

2005-04-11 Thread Mark Henderson

So, what I need to do is detect when the last entry on a given date is,
close the cell and only THEN add 1 to cellcount (as opposed to adding
one to cellcount each time it finds a valid entry, even before closing
the cell).

This seems to work

#DateFormat(start_date, " d, ")#

  #Title#  [#Start_time#]

Re: Calendar Apps?

2004-11-30 Thread Jordan Michaels
Okay. =)

http://calendar.viviotech.net/demo/basic_calendar.tgz

Requires a postgresql database. Built using Blue Dragon on SuSE Linux
but should also work on CFMX on windows (untested) if that's the only
platform available to you.

Basic installation instructions:

- create a datasource that points to the postgresql database you want to
use.
- update the Application.cfm files in both the main directory and the
admin directory to values appropriate to your system.
- open the site in a web browser, and the installer should do most of
the hard work for you.

The installer is the part that is incomplete, and to be honest, I don't
remember where we left off. However, it should be extremely close to
being complete.

The code is open, so if you feel like chipping in to a product that will
be distributed for free, we'll always be willing to accept
contributions. Credit will be given where it's due.

If you have any questions, you know how to get in touch with me. =)

We'll work on it more when we have time.

Warm regards,
Jordan Michaels

Take a look at CFX_ISOCalendar

highly flexible for this sort of thing.  Written by Jukka Manner - him
of CFX_IMAGE fame.

Make sure you get a fairly recent version, (no more than a year or so
old - I can supply the version) as there was a bug I found in earlier
versions.

We have a lot of events here at our retail store coming up and I'm
considering implementing a calendar for our web site. Just need
something to post on the home page and then link to a full size

I'm sure some of you have already implemented this or found something.

something to post on the home page and then link to a full size

I'm sure some of you have already implemented this or found something.

Re: Calendar data structure

2004-08-09 Thread Ewok
I have done this a couple of times and from experience I'd suggest this...
one table to hold the event information, what where who etc...
anopther table that holds dates with an EventID to tie it back to a particular event

Also, in The Date table, I'd try something like DateID, SingleDate, StartDate, EndDate
single dates would hold a onetime date , start and end dates would hold ranges.
or even just StartDate and EndDate.. if it is a single date, put that date in BOTH fields

I had a compnay tell me it was absolutley going to be 4 day events so all they needed were date ranges... Once it was written to do just that... they needed to exclude days in that range making it just 3 single dates (or a 2 day range and a single day) and it was a pain to change! If I had just done it this way to start with, it would have been fine.

I'd suggest doing it this way just to save you the headaches for when it happens... and it will

as for a calendar app, I have no suggestions for thridparty apps since I havent used any but if you decide to write your own, here is a VERY basic tutorial to get started with that I wrote way back when but dont tell anyone  : )

RE: Calendar data structure

2004-08-09 Thread Alistair Davidson
Read up on the iCal / vCal formats - they're attempted / de-facto
standards for transfer of calendar data between applications, and they
handle repeating events in a fairly straightforward manner. Last year I
had to completely re-write a massive international calendar app from
scratch, and the iCal / vCal formats were a very helpful starting point

RE: Calendar query?

2004-01-29 Thread Ian Skinner
I provide an answer for this in another thread, my example was even based on a table of holidays just like you are looking for.  As once mentioned, you can create in temporary table to join against the table with the dates.  I did mine inline.  This is an oracle base example, but I'm sure a similar solution would exist for most major DBMS.

SELECT
    DATETEST.DATE_COL,
    All_DAYS.DAYS,
    DATETEST.R_MED_EDATE,
    DATETEST.R_MED_DESC

FROM
    DATETEST,
    (    SELECT
 TO_DATE('01/01/2004', 'MM/DD/') - 1 + rownum AS DAYS
 FROM
 all_objects
  WHERE
 TO_DATE('01/01/2004', 'MM/DD/') - 1 + rownum <= TO_DATE('01/31/2004', 'MM/DD/')
    ) All_DAYS

WHERE
    ALL_DAYS.DAYS = DATETEST.DATE_COL(+)

Subject: Calendar query?

Does anyone know of a way to create a query with a range of dates and any
matching records that might match in a database in one query?  For example,
if I'm looking at a table that has the following:

ID | Date   | Event
---++---
1 | 01/01/2004 | New Years Day
2 | 02/14/2004 | Valentine's Day
3 | 01/26/2004 | Mom's Birthday
4 | 02/04/2004 | Doctor's Appointment

Say I wanted to show all of the days between 01/15/2004 and 02/15/2004 along
with any matching events in the database.  Is there a way to do this with
one query?  So far the only two ways that I can see doing it otherwise is to
loop through the date range and perform individual queries... Which IMO is a
little inefficient.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

RE: Calendar query?

2004-01-29 Thread Stefan Salzbrunn
Hi Hatton,

What works is to JOIN with a table that has all the dates for your range in
it, it will just display NULLs for the days that you don’t have any matching
records.

If you do not have such a table in your database, create a temp table on the
fly...

This should work in SQL Server (notice the ## for cfquery)

CREATE TABLE ##tc(calendar_date smalldatetime)
DECLARE @dummy smalldatetime
SET @dummy='1/1/2004'
WHILE @dummy < '3/1/2004'
BEGIN
	INSERT ##tc VALUES (@dummy)
	SET @dummy=DATEADD(day,1,@dummy)
END

SELECT ##tc.calendar_date, e.ID, e.event_name
FROM ##tc LEFT JOIN events e ON ##tc.calendar_date = e.event_date

DROP TABLE ##tc

Hope that helps,

Stefan

Sorry, rereading the question I didn't mention the fact that the database
only contains records that have events.  The recordset I keyed in is what I
would like for a result set, not what is in the database.

SELECT a.date,b.event

DRK = DevNet Resource Kit.  It's a quarterly CD of components, custom
tags, sample applications, etc. for several different products
(ColdFusion, Flash and Dreamweaver, primarily).  You can get
information on DRK 3 here:

http://www.macromedia.com/go/drk3

(For fear of doing too much promoting on this list, if you have any
more questions, I would be happy to answer them off-list.)

If you decide you want to roll your own, there is a calendar component
on DRK 3.  I used it to build a system similar to the one you are
describing (it was actually a weblog, but it had similar
functionality), and the calendar component gave me a big head start.

I wrote a calendar-based app that I use internally to keep track of
Macromedia product development. I installed a version of it outside
the firewall so people could take a look and try it out:

http://www.markme.com/cantrell/commtracker/

It's not pretty, but the functionality is decent. Again, it's just
something I wrote for my own personal use (don't be surprised if you
are able to generate an error), but I was able to put the whole thing
together pretty quickly. I generate the calendar using the
calendar.cfc from DRK 3 which made the whole project go much faster.
I'm still working on the code off and on, so maybe I'll release it when
it's finally ready.

Tired of your bookmarks/favourites being limited to one computer? Move

www.stuffbythane.com/webfavourites makes it easy to keep all your
favourites in one place and
access them from any computer that's attached to the Internet.
