Testing

2007-03-27 Thread Dinner
I know this is a recurring thread, so I figured I be the one to reoccur it. =]

What are folks using for testing? When I say testing, I mean the whole
package- unit tests, application tests, application/server load tests...

I really like the Selenium plugin for FF, and unless I hear different, I'll
be looking into the server side of that whole deal (not quite sure what
all is involved).

I tried OpenSTA, but it sorta seems to suck. :-/ Could just be my
own incompetence, obviously, so if I hear it's the cat's whiskers or
the elephant's ankles, I'll put some more neurons to the grinder for
it-- from some limited testing tho... niet!

So...

Let the annual "what are people using" testing thread commence!
(and if it dies with this post, so be it.)

form testing

2010-04-13 Thread success

Heya! I'm testing an in house developed app and I'm wondering what the best wat
to post data to a form is that gets around client side validation (including
the maxlength property of a text field and select boxes having pre-defined
data).

I basically want to ensure the server side validation is solid. I figured there
would be a firefox extension for this but my google fu is weak today.

Thanks for the tips.

Testing Assignment

2000-07-10 Thread Michael Dinowitz

Just for fun and keeping on the topic of testing and such, I'm assigning a
test to the CF community. Lets say you have an IP address. (207.31.122.141)
This IP address can also be seen as a long binary number using dotless IP
addressing (3474946701). The way the internet works, either address will
work properly. Now using the search terms "dotless IP address binary
decimal", find the information on how to convert from a standard Ip to a
long binary IP. Once you have the information, write a module that takes an
IP address and converts it.

I'm holding back from posting my tag result to the gallery so I can see what
others will try. If anyone wants the tag now without trying to do it
themselves, contact me off list.

Re: testing

2002-01-04 Thread Michael Dinowitz

Actually, the list is obeying the character wrap used by your mail package.

Your probably using outlook which auto-wraps at 73. The 75th character
thing on the other hand is interesting. I'm forwarding it to Howie. I just

put in a new CFX which may be causing it.

I originally sent that email to Doug after seeing several messages from him
that were doing that. I also captured headers from both a direct email from
him as well as one from him to the list for comparison.

RE: testing

2002-01-04 Thread Michael Dinowitz

I just sent an email to the test list (www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists) from
eudora with wordwrap turned off. It came out perfectly. I know that outlook
has a solid wordwrap set at 73 that can be moved up to 132 or something of
the sort. I'm talking to howie about this and looking for the best
 solution.

Penetration Testing

2001-07-23 Thread Daryl Fullerton

Hi all,

Has any one ever had penetration testing carried out on a CF
application.

Appreciate any advice from any one that has information or experience on
this.

Are there any good URL's or has anyone got specific CF penetration
documents.

Thanks in advance.

Performance Testing ????

2003-03-18 Thread Michael Hoffman
I was doing some performance testing using JRun 4. I have a stateless
session bean deployed on a server running JRun 4. The session bean does a
simple insert into an Oracle DB. I have a CF page talking to the session
bean remotely. It appears that it takes 9 seconds to insert a row into the
table. Now I ran the same test locally with the bean deployed in the same
instance that the client CF page is deployed in. The results of this test
were 21 seconds for a 1000 inserts. If I run a 1000 tests remotely it would
take 2 and a half hours at 9 seconds an insert. I have tried to run this
test and about half way through the test I get the error below. I know the
problem is not within the network cause I have made a simple stand alone
java application that performs the 1000 inserts in about 120 seconds. Also
I have tried a jsp and a servlet both of them return an insert in 9 seconds
so that rules out CF. Does JRun 4 have any settings that may increase its
performance? Here is the error. Clustering in the jrun.xml is not enabled.

application testing

2004-08-31 Thread john_chase
Hello,
It's been awhile since I've posted but this seems like a good time to =
get some expert opinions.=20

I have been tasked with evaluating application testing software and =
would like to get an idea what other CF developer's use. I'm primarily =
interested in static, functional and regression testing, and some load =
analysis would be helpful but not necessary. I'm looking at:

Seapine's QA Wizard
Parasoft's WebKing
Empirix's E-Test Suite
OpenDemand's OpenLoad

We do a lot of extranet sites with multiple users and entitlements. Not =
much in the way of public or high demand enterprise e-commerce sites.

Any experiences, insights, or thread references are greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,

XML Testing

2004-09-05 Thread Paul Giesenhagen
How do you test to see if an XML variable is defined or not?  I have tried IsDefined, but it errors out.

Basically I am testing to see if the XML code has an error block, if everything is fine,  this variable is NOT valid #xmlresponse.error.err.xmlText#  IF there is a problem, it is and it is the error response code.  So what I would like to do is FIRST check to see if this variable exists ...

Any suggestions?

Load testing

2004-06-18 Thread Yves Arsenault
Hello,

I was wondering what was the general pratice for testing your app is

Is there any way of similating a certain number of hits per minute?

I'd like to test some sections of some apps and see what kind of performance
my code is getting (or not getting).

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how this test could be done?

There are some projects that are coming up that I would  really love to use
some kind of checking to really tighten up performance as much as possible.
I liked the example on the houseoffusion.com home page where the question
was asked, "Is CFLOOP really needed?"... little tricks like that, I'm sure
are almost trivial but running sloppy queries/loopsetc... Just want to
tighten it up.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

I'm going to wait until CF 8...there'll probably be too much to learn

Selenium is great for functional testing -- and hooking it into Ant
for running nightly/continuous tests is great.

I think all of the load-testing tools, open and commercial, are a
pain. I think if you're after load testing on Windows in the CF world,
Paessler's web stress tool is probably the best balance of expense and
features. I've used Grinder (open) and Empirix (). Argh.

I'm teaching a preconference course on this sort of thing at CFUnited,
though starting with the basics of SVN and automation with Ant to make
a complete package :)

Hot dang! That sounds excellent. I'll have to look into that aspect
of Selenium-- perhaps it could wear a couple of hats.

Well thanks for the suggestions, and insight. I can run whatever platforms
I need to, for the best tools, so I guess I'll widen my spread (thanks for
mentioning Grinder, I'd forgotten that one, been meaning to check it).

Sounds like they're all painful tho... hmmm... probably not a good
application for CF, neh? That is, creating a CF-based load tester
would be like writing a CF-based huge-text-file parser, right?

And if they are all that "rough" to use, it's probably not trivial at all.

M yeah, guess I'll check grinder next, and cycle 'round to
OpenSTA again. Give 'em some shaking and see what falls out.

I'll check out the $$$ ones a bit too, one of my projects might
spring for something like that. Makes me wish is was a bit easier
to test them out tho... ouch... /me looks at the clock

Well that is just plain beautiful. Someday I'll get the Office to pay for
me to go to a con... almost made it to a couple of fun ones a bit ago--
if they went for those they'll probably go for something CF related...

Luckily I've been blessed with the experience of SVN and ANT, so it
sounds like a great course. I'd recommend anyone pick those skills up.

May your course be a full one! We need more folks with the knowledge.

Thanks for the contribution to this thread, JP! Great stuff!

Disable JavaScript would be an easy one.

You could also create your own form on a stand alone page, and just point
the action attribute of your new form to the action attribute of the form to

// 2 vars for tag:
// ip = address to translate
// variable = name of returned var
// ex.
// #thisIP#
   ipArray = listToArray(attributes.ip,".");

Re: Testing Assignment

2000-07-10 Thread Michael Dinowitz

They're hex addresses as well? I didn't know that. My solution was:

I'm going to write an extension to do hex returns as well. Thanks for the
info. :)
