RE: experience with cfm-resources
I understand that CFM-Resources have some problems now and then. But I have nothing but good things to say about Pablo Verando. I had some problems, and asked for a service that was not offered at the time. Pablo called me and worked with me to get everything working. I no longer have an account there (not because of CFM-resources) so I am not biased. I think what Pablo is trying to do there is commendable. We should support his efforts. Yes, I tried to set up a free account with them to evaluate their services so I could have a better look at CF. It has been impossible to upload to the site. They ignore all emails on this and other subjects. Their own Forum is full of similar experiences. I posted a note saying it was commercial madness since many would (like me) sign up for the freebie before jumping. They ignored that too. RE: experience with cfm-resources
It took almost six months before I had any sort of notification that my account was active at cfm-resources. So I never bothered uploading my site there. On the otherhand, I've been getting lots of emails from them and their affiliates lately (3 or 4 times a month). As for cheap CFM hosting, try www.readyhosting.com - $99 usd / year for 500 meg of storage, with CF 4.5.2 support. They have been good in the past, although in the last week or so I did not get a reply to a question I posted regarding their support for CF5. And sometimes their server is a little slow to respond to page requests. Otherwise, I've had little trouble with them. I only have one site there at the moment though, which is dynamic, but not complex. So don't know if this would be a fair assessment. Re: cfm-resources?
They went down over the weekend to install a wireless t1 connection for the freebie sites. >From an email I got last week from cfm-resources.com... We'd like to let you know that we have just ordered a Wireless T1 connection strictly for the free sites, therefore we will be turning them off for two days. Starting May 11th, 2001 until May 13th, 2001. This is a necessary action, to provide better service and much more reliability. A dedicated T1 connection will be in place only for the free server, therefore giving our free customers faster access and more uptime! We do however appologize for the downtime, but it is necessary for the system to be installed on that machine. After May 13th, 2001 you will no longer experience downtime. All paying sites (Bronze and higher, will remain up with no changes to the sites, whatsoever). HTH! Check out www.cybersmarts.net They offer very inexpensive CF/ASP/Perl hosting (10 domains for $49.95) They host 5 domains for me (I only pay $25/mo) and I've been very happy with their customer service. The only bummer is that they only offer Access databases but it works just fine for me since all I host there are personal sites HTH, - - - Jeanne - Original Message - From: Kay Smoljak <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: CF-Talk <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Sunday, May 13, 2001 5:53 AM Subject: Re: cfm-resources? > On Fri, 11 May 2001 11:40:56 -0700, "Raymond B." <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > wrote: > > >You might want to move to a language such as PHP, Perl, (ick) ASP, etc. > >Using CF, which is really meant to be an enterprise product and costs min. > >$1.2k USD, might not be the solution. Not all emails take that long. Some emails yes, but most of them are simply. My FTP isn't working (because the user didn't wait the 24 hour period it takes to create FTP, so I simply copy/paste the following: FTP's can take up to 24 hours to become active, please wait 24 hours. Re: cfm-resources?
The best you could have done is to call out toll free number (888) 929-1001. The free sites are getting a dedicated T1 line this weekend directly for that server, so we're currently configuring the machine for that. The biggest problem with downtime and problems, was that that server is currently getting over 2,000,000 daily page views and it's really bandwidth consuming. If you call our toll free support line and select the "Webmaster" option, you can leave me a message and it'll come directly to my cellular phone. Or you can reply to this email :) Best regards, Pablo Varando Webmaster CFM-Resources.Com http://www.cfm-resources.com - Original Message - From: Kay Smoljak <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: CF-Talk <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Friday, May 11, 2001 10:39 AM Subject: cfm-resources? > Hi all, > > I was wondering if anyone else was having problems with free accounts at > cfm-resources.com? RE: cfm-resources?
You might want to move to a language such as PHP, Perl, (ick) ASP, etc. Using CF, which is really meant to be an enterprise product and costs min. $1.2k USD, might not be the solution. I realise it's often much more rapid development and has a quicker learning curve overall, but PHP and Perl are free, ASP is in the sense it can be hosted w/ chillisoft bypassing having to pay for the OS... Server such as this have lower operating costs to begin w/ so can often offer much lower rates. I'm almost sure to get flamed for suggesting something other than CF, but it's all about the right tool for the job. If the site will be manageable enough through your admin section then the need for someone unskilled to edit the source won't occur frequently. Just a though. -Original Message- From: Robert J. I'd be reluctant to risk them after my experiences with the free service. What are the other low cost hosting services out there like? Sorry to bitch but this is driving me insane! Hi all, I was wondering if anyone else was having problems with free accounts at cfm-resources.com? First my password stopped working, and when I got no response to repeated emails, I gave up and signed up for another account. (Incidently, after a number of errors were thrown in the registration scripts, I ended up with three accounts but that's a different story.) Attempts to FTP in are successful after on average three or four timeouts. Everytime I do actually manage to connect, it timeouts before I can upload any files. The site itself takes ages to load and then I get server errors. The cfm-resources control panel is not even up. Now, before you tell me that you get what you pay for, I totally agree. I'm developing a site for a non-profit organisation with next to zero funding, which promotes science and technology career paths for high school students, girls in particular. The aim is to create a site that they can update and maintain themselves, thereby requiring no more funding for web work. My plan being, if I can get the site running on the free hosting service, and they see how great and easy it is and maybe interest some benefactors, I will get them to move to one of the low cost hosting services. Offical: CFM-Resources Are Alive
Earlier today, after some frustrating days not being able to get anywhere contacting Pablo or Tito at CFM-Resources I posted a message on this list under the subject: CFM-Resources? Are they alive? I'm pleased to report that Pablo saw that message and invited us to contact him directly. This I did with the message I'd been trying to get through to him for a week. Pablo addressed my questions immediately, and after a brief exchange of a few emails, my issues were resolved within the hour and I'm a happy CFM-Resources camper once more. Just thought you'd all like to know that in addition to offering a fantastic value-for-money package, CFM-Resources are responsive to their customers too. And I'm prepared to be patient and put up with things that aren't quite right while you get it all organised. The important things are all working beautifully. But a couple of things are not quite right for me and I'd appreciate if you could clarify. (1) Free or paid? Passwords confusing me... I started with a free site, then when you offered the $5 for life thing, I took up that option with my domain www.modelwarship.comNow the password changes have confused me greatly. I picked up the new password, but my ftp account doesn't work with that password. Only with the old password. So I concluded from that that the new passwords only applied to free accounts. Then I tried to get into the helpdesk, neither password worked. It just said account mw72 wasn't recognised. The control panel only grants access using the old password, the helpdesk not at all. Can you clarify this for me please? Do I actually have two accounts ... my paid account and the old free one still left as a legacy of the earlier days? I'm glad to see you're going to add a facility to let us change our passwords. Typing in the new password your system generated is a bitch, even with the printed page in front of me. And it's totally impossible to remember. It'll be good when we can change it again. (Like many on the net, I have a couple of dozen access passwords to manage) (2) To www or not? At one stage you had things set up to recognise sites with or without the www. This is a highly desirable way to organise it, yet since the moves, this has stopped. I can no longer access my site with http://modelwarship.com Will you be restoring this setup eventually? (The reason I'm anxious about this is I have started to publicise my site without the www and anyone responding to that will not find my site). Again, congratulations on a superlative service, and more power to your magic wands! RE: cfm-resources: Dangerous, avoid at all costs.
To all concerned... My credit card was charged twice I have manged to contact Pablo He says it will be refunded CFM-resources is cheap - I use it for personal stuff - would not put client stuff on there... I have overall been very happy with what I have recieved... just a few problems that hopefully will soon get sorted... -Original Message- From: Jeffry Houser [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: 12 February 2001 03:17 To: CF-Talk Subject: Re: cfm-resources: Dangerous, avoid at all costs. Re: cfm-resources: Dangerous, avoid at all costs.
What I meant Jeffry was to dispute the charges, that way they (cfm-resources) should get something in writing and a verbal, from the credit card firm. Which in turn lets cfm know that your not going to just let this go away, its just as easy to swipe the card, and take an amount, as it is to swipe the card, and credit the account, I was through this 5 years ago, when I ordered something on the web and my credit card was credited the extra (double charge) back and posted to my account within 24 hours, and through my local credit union. HTH and good luck. "Jeffry Houser" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote in message [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... > > If the card wasn't stolen, this may not be the best move. Re: cfm-resources: Dangerous, avoid at all costs.
Well there trying, and to all the people here that suggested what host to goto, I can say that I am honestly happy with CrystalTech, and the answers and response's that I get from them, everything was done within 11 hours, and the registration was through www.inww.com which hit with in 36 hours of initial setup, I have the 1st plan which is all I need, and only use this so that I can put the pages I do for people up someplace and have them review and make changes or except what I have done. CFM-Resources is good, but the lack of support and people answering the phone and saying that so and so is not there when he or she maybe there, and lack of internal communications, well lets just say I wish them the best of luck and hope they get things together. CrystalTech has 24/7 phone support and since I am still new to this and don't KNOW all the in's and out's I went with them , there was another company and I don't off hand remember there name ATS something or another and they were my second choice. Well sorry if I rambled on, but that's just my version of the cfm thingy "Andrea W" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote in message [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... > Not only that, but he lost all paid customers database and template files, > with no hope of recovery. cfm-resources, security
Hi guys, What woul you say about the security of hosting a site for free with cfm-resources.com? The site will contain the very basic membership details in a DB (username, poassword, email) and that is probably all. Anyway if I looked to add more to the DB in the future, would you recommend m,oving away from cfm-resources, or is cfm-resources as secure as any pay-per site hosting company? Any thoughts, opinions would be appreciated. I am just concerned about the ez of hacking that may be opened up with going with a free host. Also if anybody knows anything about the security of www.freeservers.com - the name speaks for itself. Cheers, Martin. _ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Re: Security hole Re: cfm-resources??
That is not the only hole you will find when multiple CF sites are hosted on the same server. Although, most hackers are not paying customers, so this usually is not a problem. If you are that sensitive about security, you should have a dedicated web server. Although I would like to see a version of CF Server aimed towards web hosters, that maybe includes more isolation of each site on a server. jon - Original Message - From: "Gena" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "CF-Talk" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Thursday, October 12, 2000 9:32 PM Subject: Security hole Re: cfm-resources?? > By the way http://www.cfm-resources.com has big security hole. Security hole Re: cfm-resources??
By the way http://www.cfm-resources.com has big security hole. They didn't disable CFDIRECORY tag and anyone can walk through whole HD drive and took all templates/database using CF. But to say true we found that _ALL_ hosting company we used have the same problem. I think its done alphabetically. I think I worked it out last night. I set up region2ops and now I find it at http://www.cfm-resources.com/r/region2ops It used to be http://www.cfm-reources.com/members/region2ops. The "members" is dropped and replaced with the first letter of the site name. Hope this works for you.
