Hi All,
Can CFX tags installed on one CFServer be called from a second server /
site which doesn't have the tags installed on its CFServer?

Thanks,

CFX Tags

2000-10-13 Thread Gary J. Groomer

Is there a way to use a CFX tag without registering it through the
ColdFusion administrator? The site that I want to use the CFX tag on is
being hosted on a shared server and they don't allow access to the CF
Administrator nor will they register it for me.

CFX tags

2000-10-23 Thread W Luke

Hi,

Could someone resolve an argument I've been having all day with a colleague
about CFX tags?

I'm hardly an expert on CF, but am pretty sure that to create CFX tags, you
don't just press an "Export to CFX DLL" button :) Am I right in thinking
you have to write it in a different lanugage?

Thanks in advance?

cfx tags

2000-12-15 Thread Jay Brushett

Hi all,

I'm in the midst of building my first cfx tag using visual c++ 6.

I've gotten to the point where the dll is compiled. What I need to know now
is the whole process of registering it.
Mainly I need to know if it has to be registered both with the operating
system and coldfusion or just coldfusion.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

TIA,

CFX tags

2001-05-22 Thread Ray Bujarski

I am using solaris/NetscapeWebServer/CFServer4.5 and am trying to use the
cfx_make_tree tag. I am new to the solaris environment so I am not sure

Well Not unless you start messing about with writing CFC wrappers for
the CFX tag to handle the data passed in and passing back the results , even
then it'll get a bit cold in the fridge

To the best of my knowledge you need to define the CFX tag on the local
server, and have a local copy or a mapped drive to the location of the CFX
tags on the other server.

RE: CFX Tags

2000-10-13 Thread Hatton Humphrey

Neil,

I had to use the tag I mentioned because, while the host I use was
willing to add the CFX I needed for my site, they never did it. I
requested the addition a month and a half before I needed it. It
never got added, and in desperation, I had to resort to "circumventing
the system".

I agree that if a host does not allow CFX tags then other programming
should be implemented.

I wrote it. It requires CFREGISTRY to be turned on. It directly adds the
required entires to the registry to "register" a CFX tag.

So... if you can use CFREGISTRY, you can add them yourself. Of course... you
should probably be expected to be kicked off their systems if they find out
you've done that. :-) But it might be possible.

Re: CFX tags

You are absolutely correct. The simple explanation is that CFX tags are
executables (dll or class files) that utilize the ColdFusion API. Thus,
they must be written in a separate language. However, if your colleague
can show us the "button", we'd all be eternally grateful.

To addd to that: The "X" in CFX, as I recall, is for eXtension. A CFX
extends the capabilities of CF beyond what it ships with via other more
low-level languages. For the most part exporting plain cfml into a cfx
wouldn't be a good idea anyway. It might run faster to be sure, but it most
likely be harder to maintain and be less cross-portable.

It needs to be registered only with ColdFusion. You can do this from the
administrator or you can copy the settings from another entry in the CF
Registry. My company has a program that registers our cfx tags with cf

To register it a entry that CF uses needs to be added to the registry. You
can use the CF Administrator to do this or I write a cf script a while back
that will do this automatically. cf_autoaddcfx.
http://www.intrafoundation.com/freeware.html.

I use the script with several of the free cfx's I've written to
auto-register them.

Those dll were build for Windows platform. If you have access to the source
code try to build them with a c compiler for Sun.

Unfortunately, CFX tags aren't cross-platform, so you can't simply take one
that works on Windows and use it on Solaris. You'd need to modify the source
code so that it would work, then compile it on Solaris. To the best of my
knowledge, very few people are using CFX tags on Solaris because of this.

If this project sounds like too much work, you might use a regular CFML
custom tag instead. I would guess that there's a CFML equivalent to
CFX_MAKETREE on the Developers' Gallery. Of course, it won't run as fast in
most cases, I guess.

Re: CFX tags

2001-05-22 Thread Joseph Thompson

There are two "CFTREE" tags (one to build an FTP tree, one to build a
"Directory" tree) here at CFHub.

They are "slow", but because they build the entire tree into a "static" form
you only need to run them when the directory structure/files change.

What you wind up with is a "CFTREE" except that it can be given a simple
html extension as realy it is just a "static" applet.

RE: Compiling CFX Tags

2000-07-06 Thread Conrad, Christopher

I know Allaire told me that I had to upgrade to Sun's 5.0 compiler when I
went to 4.51.

I just got 4.51 installed on our Solaris server here and I see something
kind of crazy. I register a CFX, compile it with Sun's 4.2 compiler. When I
hit the test template - I get a server error - it kills the server and
REMOVES the CFX tag from the CF admin!

Strange - I'm going to call our support person for this.

We have gnu 2.9 installed - I'll see if I can get that to work.

Just out of curiousity, why are you using the Sun compiler at all?

My boss' fiance worked for Sun, and she got us a couple of old Sparcs

Is there some other reason for using Sun over GNU compilers?

Hello,

I use the gnu compiler myself (I love it and have been using it for years) on the
Solaris and Linux (and even Win (ie. DOS) machines !).

The reason for using it is that *Allaire* seems to have built this latest version (CF
Server 4.5.1) so that it *requires* the Sun compiler verion 5. Hm...

By the way, do you know otherwise ? Does it really have to use the Sun compiler?

Re: Java CFX Tags

2001-02-17 Thread Jeff Sarsoun

Nick,

Connecting to a ssl server is possible through JAVA ala JSSE and JDK1.2.
http://java.sun.com/products/jsse/

You should be able to modify your existing cfx tag to implement https
support.

Although I haven't had an occasion to use cfhttp with a https url I believe
that it was possible. Borrowing advice from David Watts you could use a
recording proxy to log the conversation between the servers. The two he
recommends are:

Stretch
http://www.kestral.com.au/devtools/

HTTPSniffer (requires Perl)
http://www.compansr.demon.co.uk/

Hope this helps.

CFX Tags and CF5

2001-07-05 Thread Julian McNamara

Greetings all,
I recently upgraded a server to CF5.0 and a CFX tag immediately stopped
working. I read another post about problems with the EXCEL tag and CF5.0 I
re-registered the tag I'm using in the CF administrator but it didn't solve
the problem.

The tag appears to execute, there are no errors, but there are also no results.
I'm using the CFX_PRINTREPORT tag to call a Crystal report from within the
browser.

Does anyone have any idea where to start solving this one?

Thanks in advance,
julian

cfx tags on tomcat

2004-12-16 Thread Hugo Ahlenius
Hi,

I was just about to register my first c++ cfx tag, but I got a box
saying "You must configure your application server to enable native CFX
support." [etc].

As far I can see, from the documentation, all that is needed to do is to
add the WEB-INF/cfusion/lib dir to the jvm classpath, and that is done
(verified in the system information in the CFMX administrator).

This is CFMX 6.1 on J2EE, deployed on a tomcat server running on
Solaris.

/H.

CFX tags and CFMX6.1

2003-08-14 Thread Douglas.Knudsen
I'm having the darndeset time trying to get a couple CFX cutom tags to work. One of
them is cfx_jspellcheck from cfdev.com. I have installed CFMX6.1 as an app on
Jrun..the J2EE path. I registerd the cfx tag in the cfadmin tool. And for the moment
have the jar file for the tag file in
jrun4/servers/cfusion/cfusion-ear/cfusion-war/web-inf/cfusion/lib.  I get this error
schtuff in the logs. I'm suspecting something big has changed with CFX Java tag
creation. This the case? I also found I can't mod the class path in the JRun admin
tool. If I try it mucks up Jrun and I can't get any of the servers to load. In fact,
it ate up the IIS meta directory once even...luckily I have this backed up.
wierdness. Any thoughts? These CFX tags worked fine under CFMX6.0

ColdFusion MX and CFX tags

I have installed the trail version of coldfusion mx on a development server.
I'm having a problem with my cfx tags. I have two cfx tags written in c++

Every time I try and access the tags I receive an error.
Error 1:

message Error occurred in tag CFX_CONSOLECOMMAND
Error 2:
type coldfusion.tagext.DerivedNativeCFXException
message Unable to load library

I've not found any info on how to do this. If you find any info, please
let me know. I've asked Allaire tech reps, this group numerous times,
other web forums, etc. The most I have ever found is some info talking
about Visual C++, which of course is totally useless on Solaris...

:) I guess you would wouldn't you. Oops.

Sec. Ok, I rezipped it. Just download off the freeware page as usual.
See if that works. I noticed the project file had MFC included for
some odd reason (cat must have done it 3 years ago -- yes, the last
time coonsolecommand was compiled was in 1999.).

Also rebuilt cfxexecute and rezipped as well.

Re: Memory Leaks in CFX tags

2000-07-06 Thread Jeremy Allen

I have a suggestion you may wish to try :)
Instead of csvtoquery, which I am assuming is a comma
delimited file. Check out the CFHTTP tag. You can specify
a delimiter and you can specify a file to point it at and it will
turn the xyz delimited file into a query.

A hosting company that doesn't consider adding CFX tags for a client doesn't
really understand ColdFusion, and I'd wonder whether they're serious about
supporting it.

There are two main concerns with CFX tags - [A]  are there likely to be any
consequences for other clients of the misuse of this CFX tag?  (for example
heavy use of the processor, hogging the RAM perhaps, opening up security
holes),  and

[B] since it's installed and available to anyone on the system,  what if
other clients start using the CFX tag?  Will there be any consequences then?
Copyright/licensing issues perhaps?  Misuse or incorrect use leading to the
sorts of problems described above.

For the vast majority of CFX tags, these aren't issues and we'd just install
them and let the client go ahead and use them.   For some we'd want to take
a little while and test them or verify the licensing etc.

It also depends somewhat on the client.  Some clients shouldn't really be
allowed to walk the streets without a nanny holding their hands, others know
what they're doing and you can leave them to their own devices.

But in short, we'd consider any CFX tag (or CFC, mapping, DSN, or any other
CFAdministrator setting  too if it comes to that) and decide whether to do
what's asked depending on the circumstances.  If the answer has to be 'no',
we'll try to find an alternative way to do what the client wants.

The default answer is YES.  (Unlike when I started hosting - my first sites
were at SHANJE.COM where the default answer is "NO!"  and the exception
answer is "YOU'D BE KIDDING! -  NOT A CHANCE!")

What about utilizing java classes? How fast are you to take down the
server when updating a class path? Or do all the classes go in one
common folder?

Agreed. Especially with the security settings in CFMX, every hosting
company should offer this. I think most hosts that don't offer this
think you still have to configure sandboxing or just have no drive to
learn CF.

CFX tags and CFMX6.1 and activespell

2003-08-14 Thread Douglas.Knudsen
I'm having the darndeset time trying to get a couple CFX cutom tags to work. One of
them is cfx_jspellcheck from cfdev.com. I have installed CFMX6.1 as an app on
Jrun..the J2EE path. I registerd the cfx tag in the cfadmin tool and have the jar
file for the tag file in
jrun4/servers/cfusion/cfusion-ear/cfusion-war/web-inf/cfusion/lib.
These CFX tags worked fine under CFMX6.0

cfx tags w/ java are a pain

2000-06-19 Thread Larry Meadors

Am I missing something?

I'm writing my first java cfx tag for CF4.5, and to get an new version after I compile
it I have to restart the cf services.

I know there's a better way.

The docs talk about "modifying the coldfusion.cfx.class.reload setting of the
config/jvm.init file" but after looking high and low on the web server, I could find
no such animal. Thinking maybe it got moved into the registry, I searched for
coldfusion.cfx.class, but to no avail.

There's talk about a reload attribute too, but it's unclear whether that is for the
tag (i.e., ) or where it goes. I haven't yet tried putting
the class in the classes directory yet (I just saw that) and will try that (with
reload="always" in the tag) next.

If I see anything helpful, I'll pass it along here.

If any one has any helpful hints, I'd sure appreciate them!

Larry

I'd imagine that you could use:

Regsvr32 /u your.dll to unregister it and
Regsvr32 your.dll to reregister it

Not sure how effective this will be if you are keeping the DLL loaded.\

RE: CFX tags and CFMX6.1 and activespell

2003-08-14 Thread Douglas.Knudsen
WOOHOO!!! After many late hours this weekend I finally got it to work. Thanks to a
lead from Greg at CFDev concerning the class path set in JRun. Here's the scoop

place cfx Java tags in (this is where cfx.jar is at which contains the com.allaire.cfx
classes)

:\JRun4\servers\cfusion\cfusion-ear\cfusion-war\WEB-INF\lib

add this to your custom tag paths in the CFAdmin tool

:\JRun4\servers\cfusion\cfusion-ear\cfusion-war\WEB-INF\lib

now add this to the JVM class path in :\JRun4\bin\jvm.config
(DO THIS STEP MANUALLY YOU CAN NOT USE THE JRun admin tool for this Buggy!)

{application.home}/servers/cfusion/cfusion-ear/cfusion-war/WEB-INF/lib

Now bounce your CFUSION server via the JRun admin tool, JRun launcher tool, or the
services MMC.

BAMM!

HTH someone out there!

This error indicates that the cfx.jar (in WEB-INF/lib) is not on
ColdFusion's classpath which seems pretty strange...

CFX tags not staying in memory on MX

2003-02-25 Thread Mike Townend
Hi (sorry for the cross post),

Has anyone had any luck with CFX tags persisting in memory on MX?

We have a tag which ups a counter on every call, and when unloaded resets to
0.

On CF5 with the "Check this box to retain the library in RAM" checked the
tag perfoms as requested... Use mulitple times in a page the counter goes
up... Use once and refresh the page, counter goes up.

Under MX the counter never goes up... So its being called then unloaded...
Even tho this option is checked.

The tag is a C++ tag, running on Win2k with MX and Updater 2 applied...

Anyone got any thoughts or know a work around for this?

TIA

Is it possible to write CFX tags in Java or is it only
limited to C++.

Appreciate.

You can write them in Java using the tag in 4.0x or using
 in 4.5x. Documentation is available at

2000-06-19 Thread Reilly, Jim

Larry,

I (and many other per both this and Allaire's Forums )
have had the same problem and have not found a
resolution to this yet. If you find one, definitely
pass it along!

I also have tried the 'reload' in the cfx tag, but that
did not work either.

Subject: cfx tags w/ java are a pain

Am I missing something?

I'm writing my first java cfx tag for CF4.5, and to get an new version after
I compile it I have to restart the cf services.

I know there's a better way.

The docs talk about "modifying the coldfusion.cfx.class.reload setting of
the config/jvm.init file" but after looking high and low on the web server,
I could find no such animal. Thinking maybe it got moved into the registry,
I searched for coldfusion.cfx.class, but to no avail.

There's talk about a reload attribute too, but it's unclear whether that is
for the tag (i.e., ) or where it goes. I haven't
yet tried putting the class in the classes directory yet (I just saw that)
and will try that (with reload="always" in the tag) next.

If I see anything helpful, I'll pass it along here.

If any one has any helpful hints, I'd sure appreciate them!

Larry

RE: CFX tags not staying in memory on MX

2003-02-25 Thread webguy
I couple of ideas, pointers etc.

1) First of all make sure that the DLL is being unloaded
Use list dlls http://sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/listdlls.shtml

2) CFMX, I think,uses JNI to call dlls , look in this area. (Sean could
confirm this?)
3) Write a wrapper in Java, using JNI, that using the dll
4) Rewrite your whole tag in Java, use static for the VAR you
5) Write a COM that loads the dll etc and use it from cfobject

Subject: CFX tags not staying in memory on MX

TIA

(for you, anyway)  :-)

I tried that before, and now again, after your success,
and it still does not work. I changed my java code,
re-complied, made sure the reload="always" was there,
the .class file re-compiled to the correct dir,

so I tried your case (of RELOAD) and that still did not work.
Although when the CF server stops and start, it works!

One question, in the CF Admin in the Edit Java CFX Tag
do you have the '.class' on the Class Name text field. I have
Class Name:  HelloColdFusion
Should it be HelloColdFusion.class ?

When I add the .class, my cfm file errors out with this cmd.

Here is my cmd:

Any comments / suggestion would be great!

Here's my setup - strikingly similar to yours! ;-)

Load JVM when starting: checked
JVM path: C:\JRun\jre\bin\classic\jvm.dll
Class path: C:\java\jt400.zip (for my IBM AS/400 specific needs, irrelevant for this)
Init heap: 1024
Max heap: 16384
System options: (empty)
Imp. options: (empty)
CFX jar path: d:\cfusion\java\classes

In d:\cfusion\java\classes I have these files:
cfx.jar - comes w/ CF
hi.class - my compiled tag
hi.java - my tag's source

The tag source:
import com.allaire.cfx.* ;
public class hi implements CustomTag {
   public void processRequest( Request request, Response response )
throws Exception {
response.write( "Hi.") ;
   }
}

In the cfadmin > cfx tags page I registered my class as "hi", not "hi.class".

The cfm page that I'm testing reads like this:

Untitled

#gettickcount()#

#gettickcount()#

That's everything I know. Hope it helps you catch the joy. ;-)

If you have more questions, I'll answer as best I can.

Big test for the Java people out there: static initialisers in CFX tags.

2004-12-06 Thread Keith Gaughan
I'm writing a tag right now, and for some reason static initialisers
aren't working for me. Some background first:

The tag I'm writing interfaces with another server using some odd
bespoke protocol that the developers dreamt up. The protocol has a
variety of different message types, each of which returns a set of
records.

Now, there's a lot of these and I don't need to implement the whole
protocol right now, nor do I want to go fiddling around rebuilding
the jar file each time I need to handle a new message. So I came up
with the following outline of a design:

I have a class called "Handler": this acts as the base class for all
the various message handlers. Besides the instance methods, it has
a pair of static methods that allow handlers to register themselves
to handle a certain message type, and for other classes to look up
the message handler that deals with the message type it needs processed:

public class Handler...
 private static Map g_handlers = new HashMap();

 // ...

 protected static void register(final String msgCode, Class cls)
 {
 synchronized (g_handlers)
 {
 g_handlers.put(msgCode, cls);
 }
 }

 public static Handler getHandler(final String msgCode)
 throws Exception
 {
 Class cls;

 synchronized (g_handlers)
 {
 // We don't want to swallow the message, so notify the
 // calling template that we can't handle it.
 if (!g_handlers.containsKey(msgCode))
 throw new Exception(
 "Don't know a Handler for message code: " +
 msgCode);

 // We know how to handle it! Get the handler class.
 cls = (Class) g_handlers.get(msgCode);
 }

 return (Handler) cls.newInstance();
 }

Meanwhile, the subclasses are meant to register themselves using
a static initialiser when they're loaded:

public class GDPHandler extends Handler...
 static
 {
 Handler.registerHandler("GDP", GDPHandler.class);
 }

Now, I don't know if I'm being very thick or what, but I can't figure
out why they aren't registering timeselves. I'm sure I'm missing
something bloody obvious and I've just been staring at this code for too
long.

So if anybody can give me a slap on the back of the head and tell me
what I'm forgetting in my current state of tiredness and frustration,
I'd really appreciate it.[1]

K.

[1] The slap is optional and I'd prefer to be helped without it. ;-)

2004-12-06 Thread Katz, Dov B (IT)
How are the subclasses loaded? I suspect you need to load them
somewhere

Perhaps a bunch of Class.forName("the.package.TheClass") invocations
will be needed to actually load these up. (implicitly calling their
static intializers).

Dov

PS- if you use a hashtable instead of a hashmap , it is internally
synchronized...

Yup, I realised the same myself.

I think I just needed a rest from the code. BTW, though I'm probably the
last person in the world to get to see it in the cinema, The Incredibles
is an excellent movie and I'd thoroughly recommend it to everyone.

Yeah, I know. But the actual code (what I posted up was a
simplification) is a bit longer and I needed to lock it for a bit
longer, so it wouldn't have made sense to use a Hashtable in preference
to a Map in this context.

Anyway, cheers!
