You can also use the svn:external tag to bring projects together - the
nice thing then is you can import a tagged version of a project (say
some sort of common library) you depend on, so that you can keep
updating the project without breaking everything else that uses it.

Hi Brett,

We've come full circle from that in recent CF projects, where our
project is a package hierarchy like this:

/com
   /company
 /project
   /vhosts
 /thewebroot
 ...other web roots
 ...other projects
   ...code from other companies
/test
...test cases in packages mirroring those above

...and the web root(s) are placed under the projects they belong to.
When installing the application we set up the appropriate cf mappings
to point to the package hierarchy (which contains all our CFML, not
just cfcs) and then add vhosts to the web roots in Apache.

We think of our CF apps as applications that happen to contain some
web sites (and maybe other forms of access like gateways, scheduled
tasks and such), not web sites that happen to be applications.

Cheers,
Robin

Adam Lehman was on cf hour and the Suite idea came up.
Whilst he would not make a comment on it, he was saying how the development
life-cycles of all the eclipse based product were going to be kept in sync.
He then said you an draw your own conclusions from that.

The point he was also making was that if it was to be included in the CS
suite, then they would have to keep it in sync with that life-cyle. His
tone/attitude/read-between-the-lines was that was not going to happen.

Well, that was my take on the pod cast.

Wouldn't you want to check it out, at the very least to find out if it will
make you more productive (which I'm finding it is for me, for sure), and if
so, make an argument to the ROI of buying a licence for you?

If it costs $500 (to pick a number out of thin air), I'd be surprised if a
company would balk over paying for it, if it's going to cut development time
over an extended period.

That being said, I've been surprised before.

[cfaussie] Re: Bolt

2009-07-28 Thread Mike Kear

Given that at WebDU a couple of years ago, one of the Adobe guys told
me that the principal business of Adobe was building development
tools, I doubt if they would make it free or near-free.

And that would also mean they should be preparing quite a lot of
documentation and other materials showing why paying for Bolt is
better than using CFEclipse for free.

Just my speculation.

2009-07-24 Thread AJ Mercer
you can add a new directory that is just a link
right-click - select new folder
click 'Advanced >>' button
check 'link to folder'
browse to directory

Then when you search a project, it will search these folders too

[cfaussie] Re: Bolt

2009-07-24 Thread Mark Mandel
There is no reason you can't have more than 1 project dedicated to an
application.

Quite often I have done this, where I have had all the CFCs I am using,
which are stored off the webroot in one project, and the actual view code in
another project.

Something like:
project-wwwroot
project-mapped

I often set them up as related projects, so they will both open together.

..Also! Although I haven't played with it - in the ColdFusion settings for a
project, you can link to source not found in the project, and there is a
checkbox in which to specify that cfc's are stored there.

So lots of options!

You can link directories into a project by File->New->Folder at the
bottom of the dialog click the advanced button and check the "Link to
folder in the file system" and then browse for that folder.

The remote search dialog has a folder field with a browse button next
to it. You can select any directory on your system and they don't have
to be contained within any projects.

Also, to search only a sub-directory of a project, in the Package or
Navigator view select the sub-directory and then in the scope section
of the search dialog choose "Selected resources" and searching will
search that sub-directory.

[cfaussie] Re: Bolt

2009-07-23 Thread Brett Payne-Rhodes

Thanks Mark,

I didn't expect it to be pain free and this is the first major issue that I
have found so maybe it is a sign that it is time to bite the bullet...

'Projects' have been a bit of a pain in the past though because of the
structure I have adopted where most 'sites' are just skeletons and all the code
is safely tucked away in another directory far removed from the web root. If CF
Builder will let me specify separate directories as part of a single project
then that will help, but it hasn't been possible in other IDEs that I have
tried. Is the 'project' structure used by CF Builder common to all Eclipse type
IDEs? By which I mean if I go looking for a tutorial on 'Projects in Eclipse'
will that help me find out what I need to know?

Thanks again,

Brett

This is where the difference lies in a proper IDE ;o)

A 'project' is necessary, so that it knows things about what you are
developing, such as paths to where SVN is, or how you have set up your unit
tests, or even which server you are using.

If you try and use Eclipse / ColdFusion Builder like Homesite, you're going
to be in for a rough time, as that's not how it was designed.

Come to the dark side, it's nice and warm over here with our projects :oD I
swear you will like it.

[cfaussie] Re: Bolt

2009-07-23 Thread Brett Payne-Rhodes

This is where I have to admit to being a dinosaur and long time user of
Homesite which knows nothing of things like 'projects' but has a very good text
search facility that I use all the time. Trying to use a search facility
outside of the IDE isn't going to fly because it is just too painful to go
backwards and forwards - having found the file I want to just click on it, and
to be honest I just want it built in...

Many thanks!

[cfaussie] Re: Bolt

2009-07-23 Thread Mark Mandel
So you are correct!

I never really search outside my projects (if I do I grep), so I just
assumed you could specify any folder.

Stupid question though - why do you want to search outside of your projects?

If you are on windows (and don't have grep), try out:
http://www.wingrep.com/

It's a nice general search and replace tool I've used before.

2009-07-23 Thread Brett Payne-Rhodes

Thanks Mark,

I found the Remote Search ... What I am referring to is the 'scope' of the
search... How do I specify a directory to search rather than a 'workspace'? The
popup from the Browse button isn't a directory/file browser.

You want to use the Remote Search. It's a tab when you hit CTRL+H
