To unsubscribe from this service you must first purchase a
Craft-O-Matic Adjustable Subscription Cancellation Unit. The unit can be

obtained from most hardware stores and dental clinics.
Be sure to obtain the proper permits to operate the unit from the
Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Food and Drug Administration in

Washington D.C. USA.
Be sure to carefully unpack the kit and place each component in its

accompanying mesh safety bag.
Mount the Pershing DF4 mesinator on top of the perforated Gerring Mach

77 refibulator and attach them using the eight-millimeter torque
fork.
Be sure that the refibulator is mounted at a 66 degree angle and
properly dispersed so that it is flush with the curved section of the

Pyrex thistle tube.
Place the four sections of the triangular separation gear into the
posture cylinder and lock them into place using the band aid adhesive
strip.
Insert the wiggling pin into the wobbling hole, making sure that it

seated correctly.
Place the D cell battery and the eleven 9 volt batteries in the power

chamber.
The device should be calibrated before operation using the optional

digital corkscrew accessory pack prior to operation.
Insert the digital corkscrew through the electronic combustion service

chamber using caution not to touch the reinforced tungsten igniter
control module and quickly turn the inverter drive to 28.6 degrees.
Turn the Craft-O-Matic Adjustable Subscription Cancellation Unit upside

down and hit the bottom plate with a 48-ounce ball-peen hammer while

shaking the unit vigorously.
Force open the door to the incineration valve compartment and set the

pressure gauge to 719 psi.
Close the door and seal it shut with duct tape.
The unit should now be properly calibrated and ready to use.
Before activating the Craft-O-Matic Adjustable Subscription
Cancellation Unit, you must first elevate it to a height of 229 feet

above sea level to insure that the unit receives the proper oxygen level

and barometric pressure.
Point the aerial to 17 degrees north by northeast to within the
parameters of the Telstar GS-2 weather satellite and apply pressure to

the wing shaft on the southern most section of the modular
accelerator.
Using the special ratchet adapter supplied with the unit, rotate the

heater core to the on position. The on position
has been obtained
when the green light begins to flash, signifying that the red light is

about to go off.
Once the red light is off, flip the toggle switch labeled
ON/OFF to
the ON position and count to 47 before logging on to the
system.
Logon using your username and password and wait for the prompt.
Once prompted you must check the box with the appropriate action you

wish to take and then press the pressure release button and turn off the

compressor while turning the hand crank at 231 meters per minute.
Next, press control, alt, delete, caps lock, shift, number lock, escape

and tab simultaneously.
Press enter. You will have one second to complete the procedure.
If you fail to respond in the time limit allowed, simply purchase a new

Craft-O-Matic Adjustable Subscription Cancellation Unit and start from

the beginning.
Please remember that this is the only way we will accept for you to

unsubscribe from this service.
We have made every attempt to simplify the procedure for your
convenience. Failure to comply with the unsubscribe policy will result

in immediate termination of your subscription so please follow the above

John's question brought a related topic to mind. I know a guy on the
west side of Michigan who has a '74 GMC Sprint with a numbers matching
 454. It needs rocker panels and some other work. Engine is apart but
it's a good block and heads - never bored, etc. It is, says the owner,
one of only 79 examples built that year. I had looked at it for my
nephew but I am worried about how much work is involved in rocker
panels. I think it could be had for less than $2k...maybe even $1500.

The engine is T1120CWX54R5007137, date code K1673, the heads are 386781
(large oval) in case anyone knows the GMC number data, I'd be interested
to know if it is indeed a match to 1974.

Does anybody happen to know if the rocker panels from 1964-67 A-body
 cars
also fit 1968-72 El Camino? You never see them listed that way, but the
1964-67 floor pans are listed as also fitting 1968-72 El Camino. It
 would be
 handy to know.

 Thanks,

I haven't heard anything yet. I just don't know how hard rockers are to replace and,
especially, if heavy rocker rust would indicate other structural rust. I sure don't
want to get into a rust disaster but with only 66 copies of 1974 GMC Sprints out there
with the 454, I am somewhat motivated to save it. Here's the URL - the owner now has
it listed: http://www.cars-on-line.com/74gmc6748.html

What's the list's opinion...worth saving? Worth 2G's?

I
think GM used Hurst as early as 68 or 69 but it wasn't the Comp Plus you
have. The Comp Plus bolts to the trans where the factory model bolted to
the crossmember, if memory serves, causing the linkage to bind up. I'm
sure that's why a lot of owners went to the Comp Plus.

Actually Chevelles used Muncie shifters through 69. I'm not sure about
70. The Muncie's were crap so many guys changed them out shortly after
buying their cars. BOP did use Hurst shifters however. Why chevy didn't,
I have no idea.

RE: [Chevelle-List] 4 speed shifters

2002-12-06 Thread Stephen Lentz

My
70SS has a M21 transmission as well as a Muncie shifter. My car has a
console so I don't know if they came with different shaped handles for
non-console cars. My shifter handle bolts to the shifter assembly
horizontally with two bolts and then turns vertically at about 90 degrees coming
up through the shifter hump. About 1/3 of the way up the handle, it twists
a little and comes toward the drives seat (I assume so that the driver doesn't
have to reach over as far).

As
far as quality, I hate the stock shifter. It has a very long throw from
first to second and feels like you are shifting a sausage) I figure this
is why many Chevelle owners tossed the stock shifters out and bought Hurst
ones. I'm thinking about doing that myself and figuring out some way to
attach the original shifter handle to make it look stock (the handle says Muncie
on it).

RE: [Chevelle-List] 4 speed shifters

2002-12-06 Thread Stephen Lentz
Title: Message

Yes,
that is true. Mine transmission binds up often using the stock shifter
assembly...usually at shows when everyone is watching or when hot girls are
around. It's hard to look cool when you got to get out of the and rock it
back-an-forth a few times to knock it out of "Firverse" gear (not quite first
gear and not quite reverse).

  I
think GM used Hurst as early as 68 or 69 but it wasn't the Comp Plus you
have. The Comp Plus bolts to the trans where the factory model bolted to
the crossmember, if memory serves, causing the linkage to bind up. I'm
sure that's why a lot of owners went to the Comp Plus.

It's pretty much all Soff-Seal. I forgot to mention earlier that the window
felts come from Re-Pops.

Steele Rubber has lots more selection for less popular stuff, but Soff-Seal
has Chevelle / El Camino pretty well covered.

Also keep in mind that most 700R4's can't handle the same torque that a
TH400/GV unit can. I've got a '70 SS396 with a 700R4 that works GREAT!

I am also building a '70 vert with a ZZ502. For this project, we were
originally going to go with a 700R4, but found that the 700R4 tops out at
around 450 ft-lbs of torque. My understanding is that the weak link is the
Aluminum input shaft. We decided to switch gears (no pun intended) and
went with the TH400/GV setup.

However one final noteThere are companies that are addressing the 700R4
limitations. Bow Tie Overdrives in SoCal has a modified 700R4 that will
handle up to 600HP. I've already headed down the TH400/GV path, but it
might be worth looking into what you can get from a 700R4 these days.

Best bet is probably to go with a Gear Vendors Unit. Not cheap, but well

GM did use Hurst shifters, just not in Chevelles. The late Chevelle

There
is another brand of shifter that you hardly ever hear about, but the quality
from what I have seen and heard is above anything out there. Chuck Hansen put
one in his Chevelle Wagon on a Horse Power TV show. I had a tranny demo guy at a
car show tell me there is no better shifter made and looking at them I can
believe it. Chuck Hanson when I talked to him on the phone confirmed his belief
in their quality and said they can't be beat.

I know
they come standard on some types of trannys when you buy them but don't remember
which ones. Tremec 5 speeds maybe?

The
trouble? Very hard to find a place that sells one outright, and they are not
cheap, around $450 for a 4 speed I believe. I think you have to go directly to
the manufacturer now. For whatever reason I don't know Jegs doesn't carry them
and Summit stopped.

The
name brand? "LONG" brand of Shifter.

Not hard at all. The biggest job is removing the old and cleaning the area
in preparation for your install.
I like the black 3-M black heavy duty weather strip adhesive, runiinh a
1/6 to 1/8 bead between the locating plugs.
As for brands. Soft Seal or Metro ( I never used Steel)
Metro rubber is Softer sponger on compression. They both are good
products. But the Soft Seal on a Door wheater Strip, takes longe for the
foam/rubber to compress and let the door sit flush. And you still most
likly will have to readjust the striker pin.
After some time everything will conform and then IMO. both products are
the same.

[Chevelle-List] more Flowmaster facts

2002-12-06 Thread John Nasta
As I start to understand it all a little better...

Ever notice how Flowmaster mufflers are referred to as 4-inch or 5-inch?
Well, that number represents thickness of the muffler. Both the 30 series
and the 50 series have a 23-inch overall length and 17 case length. The 30
series are 5-inch thick by 10 inches wide, and 50 series come in both 4-inch
thick by 9.75 inches wide, and 5-inch thick by 10 inches wide. So, 30 and 50
series are all pretty much the same size.

The 40 series is another story completely. They are all 4-inches thick by
9.75 inches wide, but have a case length of 13-inches and an overall length
of 19 inches (much shorter). Those can't be easily interchanged like the 30s
 50s.

Anyway, I thought it was interesting.

There is a door frame weatherstrip that goes around the shell of the door
(completely around on 2 4 door sedans and El Caminos or just around the
bottom sides on coupes and convertibles).

Then there is a roof rail weatherstrip for coupes, where the door glass
meets the roof rail.

Then there is window glass run channel, which goes into the vertical bar
behind the vent window on pre-1969 coupes and convertibles w/ vent windows,
and around the top both sides of the door glass on 2 4 door sedans and
El Caminos w/ vent windows.

Then there is the vent window seal for pre-1969 coupes convertibles and 2
4 door sedans El Caminos w/ vent windows.

Finally there are the window felts, which sit in the channel where the door
glass comes out of the door shell (and where the quarter window glass comes
out of the rear quarter on 2dr models).

Re: [Chevelle-List] CS-130 alternator wiring help - UPDATE

2002-12-06 Thread Rodney.
Alternator's charging now!

Here's what happened. Hopefully this will help someone else down the road.

I had everything wired correctly and so I kept taking the alternator down to
Autozone to have it tested. Each time it tested great, and they said they
can't exchange it if it tests good. So, I'd go home and put it back in the
car. Still nothing worked. I kept searching the Internet for help, but
kept coming up with the same ideas, suggestions and wiring diagrams. I
found a service manual for the CS-130 at
http://www.alternatorparts.com/cs130_sbpage1.htm It includes a
troubleshooting section. That was what I needed to give me the confidence
that the alternator was bad.

I went to Pepboys and bought a new alternator with a lifetime warantee and
put it in. Whaddya know, it worked. So after weeks of banging my head, it
was the alternator the whole time. Now I don't know know whether to be
pissed becuase I had to spend another $170 or happy because it's all working
now. I'm going to take that other alternator down to Autozone and have a
talk with somebody to see what they'll do for me.

Moral of the story: Just becuase it tests okay on the machine, doesn't mean
it's working CORRECTLY.

I found that diagram, but I've found 3 other sites that that's incorrect.
Also, I tried it that way and it didn't work at all.

As far as consulting the tech support, I tried that and they spoke in
circles around me. I really had no clue what that guy was talking about.
He didn't sound too sure himself, but he used a lot of electrical jargon
that I'm just not able to follow. Their kits come with a harness for a
12SI alternator and the directions explain how to hook that up. When I
called and mentioned a CS-130 he kind of stumbled and acted like I was the
first one to ever do this or call about it.

I also called Mark at MAD Electrical (some of you may be familiar with his
website... VERY good website if you haven't checked out the tech section
yet
DO SO)... and he talked me through my current setup. By all accounts,
this
 SHOULD work and it's not.

And lastly, there is no fuse for this tan wire at the fuse panel. It does
have 12v though so I know it's okay.

  Thanks for the suggestions.

Oh yes! Mention the competition... it should help you out. I know your pain... My apologizes to anyone that works at one of these places... but 95% of these people know diddly crap about what they sell. I had a similar problem with a place here. When I purchased my Chevelle it was barely drivable, but I wanted to drive it about 40 miles home rather then tow it. Of course the kid I bought it from was nice enough to leave me a roached out battery. Only place open I went and got a battery and drove it home after some time the battery just didn't hold a charge for anything. It held full voltage and would fail a load test. I returned it for an exchange and of course got flack... well we have to charge it cause it was .2 volts from full... irritated I said fine. The next day they tested it and said it was ok. For anyone who doesn't know... I'm a ASE technician and I tested the battery at the shop I work at. I think it is safe to say I know how to test a battery ;) I kindly asked how much of a load they tested it at. I got the old :well uhhh uhhh... the machine just sticks the right amount of load on it" Ah sorry wrong answer buddy. I finally called the regional rep or manager and he stopped by the shop... I verified my results... and wow did I get some schmoozing. Got a refund for the amount I paid for a new battery I used of the shelf (A good Interstate cause I was tired of waiting to get some other work done on the chevelle)... got a new top of the line battery and ton of apologizes. So you can win these battles... at this point I would talk only to a head store manager and would threaten to take all you business to their competitors if they do not make this right.Good Luck. Hopefully this will help someone else down theroad. I had everything wired correctly and so I kept taking the alternator downto Autozone to have it tested. Each time it tested great, and they said they can't exchange it if it tests good. So, I'd go home and put it back inthe car. Still nothing worked. I kept searching the Internet for help, but kept coming up with the same ideas, suggestions and wiring diagrams. I found a service manual for the CS-130 at http://www.alternatorparts.com/cs130_sbpage1.htm It includes a troubleshooting section. That was what I needed to give me the confidence that the alternator was bad. I went to Pepboys and bought a new alternator with a lifetime warantee and put it in. Whaddya know, it worked. So after weeks of banging my head,it was the alternator the whole time. Now I don't know know whether to be pissed becuase I had to spend another $170 or happy because it's allworking now. I'm going to take that other alternator down to Autozone and have a talk with somebody to see what they'll do for me. Moral of the story: Just becuase it tests okay on the machine, doesn'tmean it's working CORRECTLY. Rodney. 71 Chevelle El Mirage, AZ - Original Message - From: "Rodney." Also, I tried it that way and it didn't work at all. As far as consulting the tech support, I tried that and they spoke in circles around me. I really had no clue what that guy was talkingabout. He didn't sound too sure himself, but he used a lot of electrical jargon that I'm just not able to follow. Their kits come with a harness for a 12SI alternator and the directions explain how to hook that up. When I called and mentioned a CS-130 he kind of stumbled and acted like I wasthe first one to ever do this or call about it. I also called Mark at MAD Electrical (some of you may be familiar withhis website... VERY good website if you haven't checked out the tech section yet DO SO)... and he talked me through my current setup. By all accounts, this SHOULD work and it's not. And lastly, there is no fuse for this tan wire at the fuse panel. Itdoes have 12v though so I know it's okay. Thanks for the suggestions.Rodney. 71 Chevelle El Mirage, AZ - Original Message - From: "Chevelle 69" [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, December 04, 2002 7:10 PM Subject: RE: [Chevelle-List] CS-130 alternator wiring help - LONG Verify against this..after checking the fuse:

Could be machine or tester..I would raise a tall gripe with someone way
up at Autozone.  Be sure to mention Pepboys solved the problem.  That may
get more response than anything!
