I called ACDelco last week and was told they've replaced PF25 with PF454.
That would almost sound cool except it's the short filter!

I used the PF35 on my sixes for years, then switched to the 1218 when I realized it
was same filter but with an anti drainback added. Nice to finally have their ok
I noticed on my 6 Cyl engines the PF1218 seems to get the oil pressure up sooner,
since it's supposedly still full of oil from last time engine was run. (filters go on
horizontally on an inline 6)

The first one was a chrome plated steel pump from Summit racing.
The latest is a chrome plated aluminum pump made by ???.
I found the receipt, and sent the people an e-mail, we'll see what
happens..
I think I'll just get a polished aluminum one..
these chrome ones have bit me twice, and it's starting to hurt!

As far as Chrome water pumps go they are not junk unless you get a
rebuilt one that is done with an inferior seal. Many chrome parts on a motor

install properly for example over torquing the bolts and crushing the gasket.
Chrome water pumps are a little different as they start life as a standard
cast water pump as would have originally come from the factory. Many other
chrome parts such a s timing covers and valve covers use very cheap and thin
metal as the base for there chrome product which makes them prone to oil

RE: [Chevelle-list] Which oil Filter do I use

2004-03-22 Thread Dale McIntosh
The standard filter for 68 to 72 (at least) is an AC Delco PF25, the longer
filter (1/2 qt more capacity) is an PF35 and the long filter with the
anti-drainback valve is PF1218. If you're using Fram, STP, Purolator, etc,
you'll have to x-ref those numbers.

The AC part nos. may have been superceded but any good parts store x-ref
book should get you to their brand.

I have had a Summit chrome pump (actually made by
'TuffStuff') on my big block since 1987 and never had any trouble with it.
Only difference I've found with this pump is the lower water connection is 1.75"
instead of the normal 2" which is OK since the lower radiator inlet is 1.75" as
well.

RE: [Chevelle-list] '65 Throttle Linkage Conversion

2004-03-22 Thread Dale McIntosh
I used a Lokar setup on my '67 with the Super Ram. The pedal itself is
pretty generic and I used the 'spoon' type (#SPO-6070)
http://www.lokar.com/images/smallthumbnails/smspoongas_pedal.jpg.

The cable is a 36" unit for a tuned port (#TC-1000TP36) that was cut to
length. I might have gotten away with the 24" unit, but that stuff is
easier to cut than to stretch. LOL

I also used their 'tuned port bracket' (#TCB-40TP1)
http://www.lokar.com/images/smallthumbnails/smtuneportbracket_hardware.jpg
and after installing my 700R-4, I switched to the two stud unit, #TCB-40TP2.

Check http://www.lokar.com/products.html for links to all their stuff.

I have some general engine photos at
http://www.dalesplace.com/htm/chevelle/the_engine.htm that show the cable
setup under the hood.

Ah, now your message makes perfect sense to me. Thanks for the idea
about spraying the glue on the back edge of the sail panel boards. I donât know
of any clips on the market for attaching sail panel boards. There is a metal
ridge there that the board sits into pretty naturally. I show windlaces
available for 1968-72 Chevelle/EC front, Chevelle rear, and EC rear, but no
clips.

It would
be great if you would measure that metal piece for the door panel. I think I am
going to have to start by lining it up though, and seeing where the lock knob
needs to come through, and stuff like that.

Thanks,

I honestly don’t know what cardboard you are referring to. Is that top piece
supposed to be cardboard on a Chevelle? It seems to me that it should be
metal, because you'd want to be able to lean on it w/o crushing it.

Thanks,
John

anybody know how the sail panels get attached?

hi John are you talking about how the material is attached to the card
board? or the cardboard to the car?
if the material- i just spray some of that glue on the back side edge of the
cardboard and wrap them like a x-mas gift- other wise the glue may bleed
through the card board (if sprayed on the front side). the cardboard usually
attaches to the car with a clip similar to the door panels- there should be
a little holder on the back side of the cardboard for the clip- it was on my
nova and my buick, i have never actually done a el camino- also i have a 71
and 72 elcamino i could measure how long the metal top plate is on them if
you wish.

RE: [Chevelle-list] Speedometer/Demon tuning problem

2004-03-22 Thread Dave Studly

I've
had the same thing happen with my Holley 750.  I think the problem is
either  1) fuel splashing out the secondary's vent hole and into the
venturi, effectively flooding the engine with unmetered fuel
or   2) under the hard braking, the primary jets are being uncovered
by the fuel moving forward in the bowl and stalling the
engine.

A vent
tube that connects the vent from the primary bowl vent to the secondary bowl
vent (forming an 'arch' ) with a hole cut in the top of the tube might
solve problem #1 and I've seen this on racecars before.

  The
one problem I had when I converted from the T350 to the Muncie was the speedo
stopped working. First I thought it was the cable or even the gauge, but after
driving around yesterday with the speedo cable unhooked from the gauge, I
watched it to see if it was moving. Nada. I pulled the gear out and it
appeared ok. If there a simple way to track down the problem? The cable has
been replaced and is in working order. I don’t want to attract any unwanted
  attention from local law enforcement…

  Also,
yesterday was the first day I really put some miles on her and was pretty
happy with the way she was running. The only problem was she stalled on me
twice when breaking hard. Is this a simple float bowl adjustment? I’ve got a
  Demon 750 with vacuum secondaries.

  thanks
