RE: [Chevelle-list] 10 bolt size

2004-05-11 Thread Dave Studly
We just went through this a week or two ago. I think it was determined that
an 8.2 10-bolt has a 1 1/8" pinion nut, while a 8.5 has a 1 1/4" pinion nut.
Someone posted a web link that also showed some minor housing differences,
but the pinion nut seemed like the easiest, most verifiable way without
having to open it up. (although you'd have to remove the driveshaft)

Most likely an 8.2" rear. Not many 8.5" rears made it into Chevelles.
Count
the splines on the pinion to be sure. 8.2's have a 25 spline pinion while
8.5's have 30 spline pinion.

2004-05-11 Thread Mack Miller
Hey clint, yea I'm trying to sell it. I have been
looking for a 70 buick skylark or gran sport for the
last couple of years but I wanted one that needed some
work not a restored one but I found one in a salvage
yyard for 400 bucks that is a real cream puff, 36k
orginal miles and just rebuilt buick 350 that I just
fired up sunday. My asking price for the wagon is
around 4,000 but I am negioable because I dont know if
that is a little high or not.
Thanks,
Mack

[Chevelle-list] 64 wagon

2004-05-11 Thread Mack Miller
Since I seem to have some interest here I'll go ahead
and post some more info.
64 Malibu Wagon
orginal #'s matching 327 rebuilt with approx 10k miles
on it
weiand manifold with carter 625 cfm carb
cant remember specs on cam but will post if wanted
hooker headers with full 2.5" pipes and 40 series
flowmaster muffs, flowtech cutouts if u want it loud
converted to hei with performance hei distributer
1.25" front sway bar and chevelle ss rear sway bar
with boxed control arms, its not slouchy for a wagon
3.08 open rear, rebuilt, new u joints and brakes have
been checked out
front discs with 2" drop spindles from classic
performance products
Th350 with transgo shift kit
alternator converted to internal regulator type.
had a/c but took it all out except for the compressor
(blew 30 degrees with r12 before i took it out) and i
still have all of this, this car was ALL orginal when
i got it and had been a little old lady car
no dash cracks and has 88k orginal miles
I have almost all of the stock parts and they will
come with the car if desired, such as the old 2 speed
powerglide.
tranny has a little leak but will be fixed before it
is sold, once that is fixed i would drive this wagon
anywhere, it is damned reliable, the most reliable car
i ever had and i just hate to get rid of it but i
found a 70 buick skylark for cheap and just got to buy
it.
needs a little bit of body work but might be fine for
someone else, i just painted it for the winter so it
wouldnt rust since i was driving it. it also needs
some interior work but thats it. here are some older
pics of it i took last fall
http://photos.yahoo.com/chevrolet721
the engine was took out since then and i fixed the
leaks it had. and cleaned it up so it looks more
presentable. the short block looked very good, flat
top pistons and the other good parts of the 60's. I'm
looking for a fast sale so I can pay off the buick.

RE: [Chevelle-list] torn seat belt

2004-05-11 Thread Gunner
Yo! Jim!

I just talked to a buddy of mine that runs a body shop. In Florida it's
against the law to repair a seat belt. It shouldn't be a difficult job to
find somebody to use the original mounting end and latch piece with new
material. I expect anyone experienced with restorations could tell ya where
to look.

Wish I was more help!

That belt can't be repaired as no one would want the liability. There are
businesses out there that can replace the belt but keep your ends.

Funny you should mention the aviation world, as my

If I have to replace the material, I guess it's no
biggie- I was just more concerned about the ends than
anything (the metal pieces).

Hey Jim!

> My passenger side seat belt, female section, has a tear on
> the material that joins the bracket that bolts to the floor.

Man, that's a tough one. Doing a "repair" on the material of a seat belt is
"Iffy" at best. In the aviation world it isn't allowed at all, "remove and
replace" is the only fix. Depending on how much material is left between
the end piece and the tear you might be able to find someone who can stitch
a "patch" there. An old fashioned shoe repair shop would have a heavy-duty
sewing machine that can handle that kind of material. An automotive
upholstery shop might have the equipment, or the ability to do some kind of
splice, so the belt wouldn't be shortened any. Needless to say, the
integrity of the belt is the most important issue.

Best of luck!

Since
it is going into a Buick, the 3800 is certainly a unique, but fitting,
choice.  However, if you go that route, I'd try to get a supercharged
version.  I had one in a '98 Pontiac GTP and it ran strong.  there
might be block differences between FWD and RWD, though.

OK I just looked a a few engine combo's.. they are:  (going in 64
  buick skylark)

3800/W 5spd out of a camaro and the same but with a auto/4spd.
all of them come with computer and all accessory .

the reason I like this combo is that it is Buick engine and its
  different.

SO what-cha think ? I see that painless sells wiring and I would have to
get a different gas tank made..

and I was thinking of a 2000 Ls1 V-8 with auto tranny its a little more
money but the looks again would be great.

AND one more a 350/350 with a paxton carb supercharger it would be about
the same as the ALUM 350 Ls1 but way more fun and hella fast  :)

  1 2 or 3 what ya think

[Chevelle-list] torn seat belt

2004-05-11 Thread J. Brady
I'm just full of questions this week...

My passenger side seat belt, female section, has a
tear on the material that joins the bracket that bolts
to the floor. The tear is not all the way across the
belt, and since they're original belts I'd like to try
to save it at all possible..

Can anyone recommend a thread or other type of
material to sew the belt rip and to make it as strong
as possible? Anyone else had to do this?

Thanks,

Jim

RE: [Chevelle-list] 69 El Camino update / headliner question

2004-05-11 Thread John Nasta
BTW, the El Camino is pretty much finished and I do plan to sell it. I still
need to do the sail panels, sill plates, armrests & handles, but that's
about it for cosmetics. Mechanically, I have to install the vac modulator
line, get the Flowmaster pipes welded to my down-pipes, and get the wheels
aligned.

I know lots of you think I shouldn't sell this car, but I really have no
place to keep it. It's been at a friend's house for about a year now and his
wife wants to see it go.

Contact me if interested.

Thanks,
John Nasta

RE: [Chevelle-list] 69 El Camino update / headliner question

2004-05-11 Thread John Nasta
Thanks Mike,

For some reason I only seem to be able to get the side windlaces for 64-67.
I'm thinking they'll work though.

The front & rear ones are rubber. Nice but expensive.

John, My 65 Elky has edge moulding all the way from the step plate front to
step plate rear. It is the standard vinyl edging that pushes on the metal
lip that runs the entire door opening. I would think your Elky would use the
same.

Re: [Chevelle-list] time for the "what

2004-05-11 Thread J. Brady
I got under the car last night, and can't find
anything broken or loose. I checked the exhaust and
the shock connectivity, and they seemed fine- I do
admit (head hanging low) that I do have air shocks on
the car, but I don't have much pressure in them, and
they are also coupled with higher lift springs. I
will check again tonight to see if the mount managed
to break, but I haven't noticed it in the past.

Thanks to all for your help,

Jim

After 1.5 years I finally got to hear my 396 run tonight and it sounded so
good I could have listened to that Big Block with open headers all night.
After the 30 minute cam break-in I still wanted to hear more but I shut her
down for tonight. There is nothing sweeter than hearing your baby come to
life after hours of hard work. I don't know if I'll be able to sleep
tonight. I just had to tell somebody. Thanks for listening to me dote over
my baby.

RE: [Chevelle-list] fuel gauge

2004-05-11 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Dave,

I think you need a new sender (or gauge).
If it was to change from 90 to 240 straight you could just put a 150ohm resistor
inline and be done.
But since you want a scale (std chevy being 0 to 90 ohms) that would make it go from
150-240ohms instead.
I dont know how much the bottom scale on that 240ohm gauge is but its either 0 or like
30 or so if i remember well.
The sweep of the gauge would therefore be from approx. half tank (when tank is empty)
to full tank (when tank is full)

Ciao
André
