The cheapest way is to find a 1964-1972 chevelle, GTO, Cutlass in the
junkyard that had disc brakes, and pull it off. Preferably the single
piston kind.
I think the cutlass is the easier find in my opinion.

I got a set off ebarf for $290 in good shape (after shipping). They are off
of a '71 Cutlass

The easiest swap would be a stock type kit for your chevelle. You would
need to reomove the wheel spindles, but with the right tools its not tooo
bad a job. Make sure that the "kit" includes all you will need, master
cylinder- booster??, lines, proportioning valve , etc.

Another easy swap that would cost more is to get an aftermarket kit that
bolts on to your stock spindles. I believe that Baer (& probably others)
makes such a kit. With these its just an R&R operation. Check with
Clint44 (member here). He is a Baer dealer and can probably get you a good
price for a kit.

problems, some say it is not a big deal, some say that you can find a 12 "

Welcome to the List,Hans. Glad to have another Elky lover aboard.
Looks like you have your work cut out for you but it's a good
start,nonetheless.
If I might make a suggestion, forget about a fiberglass front end and stick
with steel. Glass front ends aren't really good for anything but
racecars,IMO.
As for your drop-spindle and spring question,a 2"drop is quite a bit so I
probably wouldn't go with more than a 1" drop spring.

Hi folks

Let me first of all introduce myself, my name is Hans Edlund, originally
from Sweden, but since a couple of years located in Southern California.
Just so you understand why my expressions in English is not perfect, but I'm
aiming for improvements and your appreciate corrections, if I'm not clear
enough. I signed up for this great list some weeks ago, and have been
lurking in the background a little bit.
Well I am not an owner of Chevelle but an El Camino from 71, and honestly
it's a restoration project, which I bought a while ago. It was a originally
a three on the three and a 307, replaced with a 305 and a M-22 (acc to the
seller). Strange combination, but there was a "nice sound" from the gearbox
L
Well it was supposed to be a rolling project, have you heard it before??
I was looking for a fiberglass clip-on front, they are available for
Chevelles but not for Caminos, finally I met a guy who promised to build one
for me if he could borrow the fenders. So since that weekend, its not a
rolling project. I sold the 305 almost a give away, took a look at the M-22,
which was a M-21. The nice sound was the need for a complete restoration...
The 350 4-bolt I had in the garage is now stroked, bored and prepared for a
charger. Just need the money for a Vortech charger.

The car has been moved to the body shop, and will soon be a frame off. The
frame is supposed to be powder-coated and the front drum brakes will be
replaced with discs.
Here is my first question to you; I have bought the 2" drop spindles, should
I use standard springs or also "lower springs"?

Well honestly this is the first time I restore a car so drastically, so it
will take time for me to complete it, both time and money wise. The car was
in a very bad shape, so no desire to keep it original, plans will most
likely change during the project J. Support and ideas are appreciated.

I placed some simple pics on the web, if you like have a look in the album
"El Camino" on www.fotki.com/eldoradoconv , its also some pics from my

[Chevelle-list] all the moldings from a 69 El Camino Custom (used)

2004-07-08 Thread John Nasta
I have all the old moldings from my 69 El Camino Custom. None of them are
pristine (or they wouldn't have been replaced), but if anybody wants them,
let me know. these are mainly the eyebrows, header panel moldings, side body
moldings, bed/tailgate moldings, plus probably some other stuff lurking in
the basement. Free if you can pick them up (Brooklyn, NY). Best offer +
shipping if they have to be shipped.

The original grill & extensions were trashed, so I don't have those. I
should have the headlight bezels & probably the buckets. I have the tail
bezels & lenses too, but I could sell those on the evil auction site. I also
have what was advertised as a NOS 350 marker bezel (not used but some
shelf-wear). Could be polished up. Anyway, a bunch of used stuff from a 69
El Camino Custom. Contact me privately if interested.

Thanks,

Re: [Chevelle-list] firewall insulation pad

2004-07-08 Thread Wayne
The fire wall pad ( insulation) can be a PITA to do, with your heater box
out of the way, it;it's just fitting around the steering column and pedal
brace, emergency brake bracket, fuse box. it helps if the dash gauge /radio
is pulled, for more room behind that area, the next challenge is the push
through plastic fasteners..
I cut the end off an old stubby screw driver , to fit inside the plastic
depth , and used it with a mallet like a driver/dowel. that with a
liberal coating of spray silicone
achieved there insertion...

Re: [Chevelle-list] It goed, then stopped - now it goes again (I think)

2004-07-08 Thread mike f
That was probably it. According to MAD web page, the
entire system depends upon this section of wire from
battery to horn relay and chevrolet designed to to
produce a specific amount of voltage drop. If this was
loose or not connected at all everything shuts down.
And raising the hood up could have jiggles the wires
back together.
