James, Have you considered having your seats redone? With new springs and
foam over new covers you would not believe how much better they sit.

I installed Corbeau seats. They come with bases that
bolt in the stock position. They look good but are pretty hard. I
couldn't afford Recaro. http://racing-seats-usa.com

I installed seats from a late model firebird in my elky. The biggest problem is
the floor pan. On our cars, the floor pan is very uneven, I had to make 3 different
height spacers to get them level. After that, you need to remember to reinforce the
floor pan so the mount bolts don't pull loose in an accident.

[Chevelle-list] rim paint

2004-08-22 Thread Melanie Lopez

Anybody know the paint NUMBER for the paint needed
for 71 Chevelle rims (it's a special gray). I know they sell it by the can
in catalogs, but we have a friend who will mix up the paint to spray it
ourselves, but we need the ID #.

By the way, ourTOTAL restoration is coming
along, slow but steady. The frame as well as other underside parts have
been sand blasted and painted. We were surprised to find out the rear end
was not posi. It's been worked on, but now we have to add the posi unit.
The motor has been worked on(ask my husband for details, cuz I don't know
- supposed to be over 500 HP) and is progressing well too. My husband is
gonna try to get the body work completed before the weather changes so he can
paint it before winter. I am HOPING it will be ready to go in the spring
as we'll work on the interior over the winter.
Went to a big car show in Valpo today and got a
cowl induction hood. We havethe original super sporthood for
sale for$275 if anybodyneeds one (71 Chevelle).
Thanks

Hello Everyone,

I just bought a 1968 El Camino BBfrom Missouri,(MO does not require the
weight on their registrations) I need the curb weight for New York State to
register it. A friend of minehas a 1970 SS El Camino that weighs in

1968 El Camino. Thanks in advance.

[Chevelle-list] Vandalized!!!

2004-08-22 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

My Chevelle was vandalized last night. I didn't care that they
stole all the loose stuff and I am grateful the stereo and speakers were still
in place, they could have done some real damage getting them out.

What really gets me is that these little jerks lit fireworks off
INSIDE THE CAR! I thank God the whole car didn't burn up asit
possibly could have. It burned the seats, the floor andthe
aftermarket gauges. It left behind that burned smoke residue and melted
plastic where they finally burned out so it melded into the seats. It
might have been smoke bombs, I dont know. There was one left in there that
didn't go off and I am really glad it didn't as it looked like it would have
done some real damage, again ... thank you Lord!

Obviously it was some really dumb kids and I don't think it was
personal but it really irritates me to get violated like this. That was
one of the really nice parts of my Chevelle, a near perfect original
interior. I got most of it cleaned up OK but the front bench seat is
ruined and so are the gauge faces. Obviously I am going to have to change
some things around here in the area of security.

Thanks for listening!!!

Darren

Published curb weight (empty vehicle ready to drive plus
weights of gasoline and water) is listedby GM as 3675 for a 13880 (SS big
block) 1968 El Camino. Options such as TH400, A/C, buckets, p/s, etc will
add weight.
