The manual rear antenna was option U73
1965 production was 2794 (Interesting as this was exactly how many am-fm
radios were made and there was no charge)
 1966 production was 66,846
 1967 production was 46,911
 1968 production was 35,218
 1969 production was 33,117
All U73's from 1966-1969 were $9.50
U75 power rear antenna (one year only-1966) production was 962 with a cost
of $28.45

I have owned one of my 69's since it was new.
Antenna was on front fender from factory.  Since that time I have acquire 2
other 69's and both had front mounted antennas.  Guess you could order rear
antenna as you could order almost anything in those days.

If you have never rebuilt an engine before, keep in mind that it's much
easier if you pull it out of the car first. In the meantime I'll assume
that

That is sort of a double-edged sword. It’s easy to take things apart and
much harder to put them back together. I learned how to build engines by
necessity, because my first car was a $125.00 1967 Nova that burned more
oil
than gas. It wasn't long before it became painfully obvious that it needed
a
rebuild, and I couldn’t afford to do it any other way. I had a buddy
helping

me though, and he was (and still is) a professional mechanic. We rebuilt
that engine in the back of his Chevy van, on an engine stand that was tied
down so it wouldn’t fall over when he drove the van to and from work every
day. After that I worked as a professional mechanic for a while, and since
then I have built several engines on my own, but some 25 years later the
same guy helped me build the engine that is currently purring away in my El
Camino (but this time we had the engine stand in a garage instead of a
van).

The point is that if you have never done this before you should at least
have somebody helping you who has, and hopefully it will make for some fun
memories in the process. Otherwise you should probably hire a pro.

I would have to agree. Something
don’t sound right and since you have already broke a gear, there is a
chance that you may have debris from that. Better safe then sorry.

[Chevelle-list] 14X5 Steel Wheels

2006-03-20 Thread Scott

I am new to the list but am a TC(68L79ELCAMINO) and ACES member. I posted this on TC and had little luck. I have a 68 elcamino with factory disc brakes, the 4 piston caliper kind. I am looking for some original style steel wheels to fit my car. They are 14x5 with 3.5 inch back spacing. The tough part is they must have the groove in the wheel to clear the caliper. I don't care about codes or dates. If it helps, the code on my original spare is XD. This code shows up no where in any book that I have found. It may be a 68 only, wheel. If anyone has any wheels that fit this description let me know. I am starting to get desperate. Thanks Scott HillJoin Excite! - http://www.excite.comThe most personalized portal on the Web!

I have seen pictures of a roller rocker that lost it's needle bearings. The
owner had to tear the engine down to find them so I would inspect them all
while you are in there. I am guessing that the pump could suck one up thru the

Re: [Chevelle-list] Buying 69 Chevelle

2006-03-20 Thread Trooper
The rear mount antenna was a factory option in 69 Chevelles. You could order
it that way. It was not a dealer installed option. It was installed at the
factory just like the front mount. It should be mounted on the pass rear
quarter. You could get it with AM antenna or AM/FM antenna.
My L78 purchased by my uncle new and by me in 1975 has a rear mount AM
antenna.

Steve,

After closer inspection of your "new" Chevelle, I noticed the radio
antenna is located on the rear fender where as the antenna on my 69 is
located on the passenger side front fender. My Chevelle is all orginial
and I was wondering if anybody knows if the rear mounted antenna was owner
installed or if the rear mounting was a dealer option.

Do you remember where yours was mounted way back then?

Steve,
One thing I noticed on that E-bay car is that the A/c if an
aftermarket

setup. They are using the factory compressor but they way the hoses go
into the firewall indicates an aftermarket setup. Aftermarket A/c
isn't

necessarily a bad thing but the seller should have mentioned it.

Different animals, but I know that on some Oldsmobiles of that era, if you
got a power antenna, it was mounted in the back. I've never seen it on a

I can't speak to 1969 Chevelles, My basket case 66 came with a 66 Malibu
front fender that had an antenna hole (which looked to be factory), and the
original passenger side SS396 quarter had an antenna hole in it.

Somewhere else to start looking is the pump driveshaft and see if it's
binding up. An oil pump locking up is very unusual.
