Re: [Chevelle-list] Buying 69 Chevelle
I have owned one of my 69's since it was new. Antenna was on front fender from factory. Since that time I have acquire 2 other 69's and both had front mounted antennas. Guess you could order rear antenna as you could order almost anything in those days. We rebuilt that engine in the back of his Chevy van, on an engine stand that was tied down so it wouldnt fall over when he drove the van to and from work every day. After that I worked as a professional mechanic for a while, and since then I have built several engines on my own, but some 25 years later the same guy helped me build the engine that is currently purring away in my El Camino (but this time we had the engine stand in a garage instead of a van). I would have to agree. Something don’t sound right and since you have already broke a gear, there is a chance that you may have debris from that. Better safe then sorry. May I suggest you take apart the oil pump and see if anything got pulled into it. If so, you may be able to identify where it came from. gm66 --- [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: From: "Al Hembd" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "The Chevelle Mailing List" Subject: Re: [Chevelle-list] Oil pump froze up Date: Mon, 20 Mar 2006 12:37:02 -0600 Well I got the motor pulled out that was as far as I got. [Chevelle-list] 14X5 Steel Wheels
I am new to the list but am a TC(68L79ELCAMINO) and ACES member. I posted this on TC and had little luck. I have a 68 elcamino with factory disc brakes, the 4 piston caliper kind. I am looking for some original style steel wheels to fit my car. They are 14x5 with 3.5 inch back spacing. The tough part is they must have the groove in the wheel to clear the caliper. I don't care about codes or dates. If it helps, the code on my original spare is XD. This code shows up no where in any book that I have found. It may be a 68 only, wheel. If anyone has any wheels that fit this description let me know. I am starting to get desperate. Thanks Scott HillJoin Excite! - http://www.excite.comThe most personalized portal on the Web!

I have seen pictures of a roller rocker that lost it's needle bearings. The owner had to tear the engine down to find them so I would inspect them all while you are in there. I am guessing that the pump could suck one up thru the screen. Re: [Chevelle-list] Buying 69 Chevelle
The rear mount antenna was a factory option in 69 Chevelles. You could order it that way. It was not a dealer installed option. It was installed at the factory just like the front mount. It should be mounted on the pass rear quarter. You could get it with AM antenna or AM/FM antenna. My L78 purchased by my uncle new and by me in 1975 has a rear mount AM antenna. I think I would if you don't have ( you'll need it if you install a new pump anyway) oil pump pre oiling tool... I would drop it ion and with my drill rotate it and watch the oil pressure gauge. if the is a fluctuation in pressure and binding as you stated. IMO it;'s time for a replacementAnd as one guy said plastic gauge the bearings rod/main when you have access after dropping the oil pan. You do not have to pull the eng to do this job.Gl WayneClint: >Somewhere else to start looking is the pump driveshaft and see if it's>binding up. Re: [Chevelle-list] Buying 69 Chevelle
Rich, I noticed the same thing... Mine is all original and mounted on the pass fender as well. It seems like I have seen the rear mounted for different options. Mine is just the mono AM unit... what about yours? Do you remember where yours was mounted way back then? They are using the factory compressor but they way the hoses go into the firewall indicates an aftermarket setup. Aftermarket A/ c isn't necessarily a bad thing but the seller should have mentioned it. Re: [Chevelle-list] Oil pump froze up
A bound up oil pump is unusual for sure and Mr. Z-16's hydro lifter spring is one of those never say never deals.
