[Chevelle-list] O/T wheel/tire machines

2009-04-27 Thread HarKemAsso
HI - hoping someone could shed some light on these tire changing and wheel
balancing machines, are they any good? or what am i looking for when i buy
one?
they seem way cheaper than some i have seen, i don;t really need anything
real fancy, the one i have now just will not seat the tire on the rim, it
gets stuck, its a Bishman 880.
$995 - AmericanProducts AWB-1100 Wheel Balancer

$1,195 - AmericanProducts ATC-1202 Tire Changer

or am i better off with a coats 40/40a for 750.00 (used) (this is one of
those table top rectangular models that take up more room.

thanks!

I gave a friend a big end distributer from my big block 454 for his small

dropped in electronic dist. Started the car and it ran rough ? couldn't get
enough counter clockwise turn to smooth it out. do I need to change vacuum
advance weights or is it possible I am a tooth off on the shaft? Jimmy.C

HEI requires full 12volts to work properly. The points distributor is
supplied by a resistance wire (or thru a voltage dropping resistor) that
drops the supplied voltage to 8 or 9V. May or may not cause your
problem, but the HEI will not be optimized unless supplied with 12V.

If the car has a resistor inline with the coil, just remove it.If its
supplied by a resistance wire you need to run a new supply wire. The IGN
terminal in the fuse box is a good place to get tap for the 12v. Google HEI
conversion for better idea of what to do.

Just loosen the distributor bolt, pick it up, and turn it clockwise to the
next gear tooth, and drop it in. If it doesn't drop all the way in, rotate
the engine and it will drop in when the oil pump gear aligns.
Fire it up and set the timing. If it way off, go back the other way and use
the same method.

Re: [Chevelle-list] OT: frame question

2009-04-27 Thread Dale
I have a Hollander's manual for Chevelles. For 68-72 Chevelles there is a
*type* they number as 1943. For Chevelles this fits 68-70 2-dr (exc.
Pickup) & 1971 & 1972 H.T. & Conv. Chevelles. Quite a few A-bodies are
listed under type 1943.

Buick Special '68 2 Dr., Conv.

Buick Special '69 2 Dr. exc. GS400 H.T.
Buick Special '70 2 Dr., Conv

Buick Special '71-72 2 Dr. exc. 8-455

Chevelle '68-70 2 Dr. exc. Pickup

Chevelle '71-72 2 Dr., H.T. & Conv.

Olds F85 '68 2 Dr., Conv.

Olds F85 '69 2 Dr.

Olds F85 '70 2 Dr. Conv.

Olds F85 '71-72 2 Dr.

Tempest '68 2 Dr., Conv.

Tempest '69 2 Dr.

Tempest '70 2 Dr., Conv., exc. 8-455

Tempest '70 2 Dr., H.T., exc. 8-455
Tempest '70 2 Dr., Sdn

Tempest '71-72 2 Dr., exc. 8-455

The convertibles probably all have boxed frames but other than that are
probably the same basic frame. Don't know why the Buick GS400 or (I assume
V8 w/455 engine) in Buick & Tempest are different.

I scanned the two pages in the book if you like and will mail them to you
offline.may be easier to make sense than the pieces I chopped out.

For anyone out there that may happen to have a 5.7L Dodge hemi, there is a
problem with the valve springs. My '04 with 80K miles swallowed a valve as a
result of the valve spring breaking. The good news is Chrysler did stand behind
it and paid for all but $500 of the repairs, even though out of warranty. If
you are driving hemi of or near this vintage I would suggest having the valve
springs upgraded. FYI
