After cutting one apart and seeing the element inside.nope. It's one

Some oils that have the appropriate amount of ZDDP in them would be the Brad
Penn oil, Royal Purple, Valvoline VR-1, and Joe Gibbs line. You can still
run conventional oil, you just need to put in some additive with it such as
Crane Suberlube break in concentrate, or a bottle of ZDDP Plus. I've been
running Chevron Delo 400 15W-40 in mine but from what I have been reading,
the ZDDP levels are dropping in that as well. I'm going to be switching to
the Brad Penn 10W-30 when I do all my oil changes this spring. As for oil
filters, WIX or NAPA GOLD is the ONLY way to go. The Wix part number for
V-8 Chevy engines is 51069 and the NAPA Gold number is 1069. They are the
same filter, just relabeled for NAPA distribution.

Re: [Chevelle-list] engine oil

2010-03-13 Thread John Lonadier
Tom & Dan, I am also running the Chevron DELO 400 15W-40 in my '70. You are
correct about the amount of ZDDP levels dropping in it. I have been working
for Chevron Oronite Company, we manufacture the additives that go into
engine oils, for 33 years and have been seeing the amount of ZDDP in the
packages of additives that we have been shipping to our customers drop over
the last couple of years. I will be staying with the DELO 400 for the reason
that not only does it contain ZDDP but it also contains MOLYBDEMUN. Combined
with the ZDDP that remains in it this works very well. I am not a chemist
just an operator that makes the additives and sees the combinations of
products that are blended together that our customers are asking for. Hope
this helps.
