Re: [Chevelle-List] corvette newsgroup/list?
If you're looking for Vette restoration, and ONLY restoration (no mods or restification here), then check out the Corvette Restoration and Preservation List (CRPL) http://www.corvette-resto.com/mailman/listinfo/crpl These are hardcore Vette restorers - mostly C1 and C2, but a lot of C3 and C4 lurkers. This list was a helpful resource in my C3 restoration. Noland Adams belongs to this list, among many other VetteXperts. Just don't ask the list how to make your '63 split window into a prostreet monster. You'll get flamed. Otherwise, the list is an amazing place. Luck, Kurt on 6/18/03 2:27 PM, J. Title: Re: [Chevelle-List] Transport from CA to FL?? Hey George, Just checked out A AAAdvantage also known as carmoves.com on the Better Business Bureau website BBB gives them an unsatisfactory rating. I’ve also heard several complaints about them on other online lists...corvette action center, montecarloss, etc. I’d stay away from them. I brought my ‘64 convertible out from the Chicago area, to Los Angeles last November, using a husband and wife team. Their rates were competitive, they stay in constant contact with you via cell phone, and made the transport experience very pleasurable. Let me know if you want their contact info. Here are a couple links to use to get multiple transport quotes. http://www.dispatchsearch.com/ http://www.autoshippingquote.com/ Can’t validate any of the companies that will send you quotes, but at least you’ll get some dollar figures and names that you can then go out and research their quality. Re: [Chevelle-List] Circuit breaker in ignition switch?
All good stuff gents, thanks for the input. My harness is exactly as Wayne described -- been butt spliced to death, rust all over the lamp sockets and fuse connectors. Convertibles with ripped up tops that are have been left out in the elements have the worst interior rust! I know of the Arizona salvage yards -- fun day if you can make it out there. Hhowever, I think a new harness is the way to go here, since I want my convertible to be a reliable daily driver and I'm getting too old to have to wrench my back to get under the dash every time some new wiring problem pops up. Since I went with new M&H engine harnesses, I may as well bite the bullet and get their dash harness as well. Now if I can only fine an SS dash on eBay with the full gauge package... [Chevelle-List] Circuit breaker in ignition switch?
Is there a circuit breaker in the ignition switch on my '64? I'm seeing some strange behavior in my wiring. Basic issue - trying to start the car. I've replaced the ignition switch/lock and key due to rust, and plugged it right into my old ignition harness. I've traced power from my battery (+) to the horn relay, to the engine firewall connector, to the interior firewall connector behind the fuse box. Test light is bright at every stop along the way. However, the power stops there...at times. Twice today I've gotten power to the ignition switch, at which point I inserted my key/lock mechanism, turned it to start, and "poof" nothing. Still get power at the interior firewall connector behind the fuse box, but no power to the ignition switch battery lead. I traced this wire and it trees with the main lead to the lighter, and the main lead to the light/dimmer switch. I also can get power (test light) at the "tree" but the moment I try to get power at the ignition lead, nothing. Then to make matters worse, I can't get any power at the tree again. 40 year old wiring is driving me crazy. I may be getting bad continuity, but I'll have to do it later, since I loaned my continuity tester out. Grrr. So, is there a circuit breaker somewhere that I don't know about? All my fuses are new. Re: [Chevelle-List] Ignition switch removal
Title: Re: [Chevelle-List] Ignition switch removal Thanks Wayne, Mine seems to be gummed up with rust pretty good. The previous owner left my convertible out in the elements with a torn up top and I’m dealing with all the rust that has built up on just about everything metal on the interior. I’m gonna let PB Blaster do some of the hard work, and hopefully things will pop loose for me in the morning. Once I get the ignition switch out, anyway to test it for shorts? My wiring isn’t all back in yet and I don’t want to stick a dead switch back into the dash. They’re cheap, so I will probably just replace it along with my key tumbler. [Chevelle-List] Ignition switch removal
Title: Ignition switch removal How does one remove an ignition switch (key) from a ‘64 dash? Chilton book states: put switch into ACC position, insert wire into small hole in face of lock, push on said wire to depress plunger, and continue turning key until the cylinder can be removed. Then off comes the bezel nut and out comes the switch. I have two small holes in the face of my ignition switch, have depressed the plunger and can only turn the switch a few millimeters past the ACC position. Any tricks from the pros?
