Re: [Chevelle-List] Chrome Rims
I too, would be interested in the best way to paint over chrome. I assume you would just need to rough it up with some 220 or sogrit sandpaper, prime it and shoot nice thin coats of paint? I would like to paint my chrome valve covers (lettering part only), that says "MOROSO", with engine heat temp paint and leave the rest of the valve cover chrome. Thoughts? All the body work and painting is done and the interior is almost finished. I have just one problem. I have what I call fake centerline wheels which are rusty up. I can not buy new rim for the car at this time. I do not know if I will be able to clean up the rims. First I wanted to know if anyone has any ideas on how I might clean up the rim and polish them the best I can. Second, what about painting the rims. If I do paint them, how would be the best way to paint over chrome and what color should I paint them. The car is Blackwatch green firemist. This is a very dark green with three types and sizes to sparkle. The interior is tan. I have to do something to the wheel because the car look so nice. If I don't clean the wheel up somehow, it willmake me look stupid. Any ideas. Go to this address to see a picture of my wheel. Make sure your ignition and cooling systems are up to the task. The blower will produce plenty of extra heat in the motor. Many recommend the use of a boost retard for the ignition. I run a centrifugal(ATI Procharger) supercharger at 8lbs in my 70 Chevelle. I shift the stock headed 396 at 5300rpm and run low 11's. My car doesn't heat up ever but the centrifugal type doesn't hold as much heat in the motor. I have stock rods, crank, old forged pistons(looks like factory replacement), 8.5-9:1 comp, hyd cam, 6AL no retard box. On the street I have run it up to 6200 without problems. I broke my converter so you might want to invest in a blower converter. [Chevelle-List] 671 Blower info needed
I would like t have some input from those of you who have experience with running a 671 blower on a STREET set up. I'm having this motor built professionally at a speed shop in town but wanted to get some of your toughts on how this set up works for driving on the street to shows, but never over 100 miles. Every thing on my car is new including a BE COOL radiator for cooling. Will I be able to still run my stock water pump pulley system? I don't have power steering or a/c so that's no biggie. Must I run a electric fan or can a person still runs a stock set up type system? This is the type of info I am looking for. [Chevelle-List] Tunnel Ram like Intake help needed
I am wanting to put a higher intake on my 67 Chevelle SS 396. I now have a Performer RPM intake but I want to go for the higher intake up through the hood much like the look of a tunnel ram with dual quads. This car is NOT a drag car but IS a show car and is driven to each and every show up to 100 miles away. Here is the TRICK. I want to somewhat keep the low end torque as much as possible (around 1500-2500). I read a few months back in either CHP or Super Chevy that with the newer tunnel ram like intakes it's possible to keep low end torque around this number opposed to the normal 3,000-3,500 numbers of years past. Also, I want to switch overto a dual quad set up. My motor now is a 396, Performer RPM intake, Comp Cam 578/578 with 232 duration and 110 lobe separation, Edelbrock aluminum heads, single carb 750cfm Edelbrock and runs great on 89 octane pump gas. Do any of you know/recommend any types of set ups that I can run? I want it to remain streetable, however, I know I will be giving up some gas mileage. To get an idea of what set up I have now you can visit my home page on the below link. I look forward to hearing about ideas or at least brand names and companies I can call for guidance. [Chevelle-List] Need Engine RPM Help
I have a question regarding engine RPM. I have a350 with Edelbrock Performer RPM's hydrauliclifters, intake and carb kit with regular flat top pistons I built about a year ago. The compression is normal for that of a 350 (8.5 to 1?) and it runs just fine on 87 octane. The tranny is a 350 with a 1,800-2,400 stall converter and mild shift kit set at "towing" stage with no added tranny cooling. My rearend is all new including axles and posi unit with Richmond 3.36 gears. **My question is this.** On the interstateat cruising speed (65 mph) I am running 3,100 RPM's. Is this ok for long periods of travel say 6-8 hours? It seems somewhere I read that you want to stay below 3,000 RPM's Also, what would be the MAXIMUM RPM's a person would want to run at for long periods of time? Thanks for any opinions out there.
