Re: [Chevelle-list] Antennas location
Hey Guys, I was with Jim Hinshaw a couple of weeks ago, and asked him why Gm put the antenna up in front that it would look so much better on the rear passenger fender. He told me that some did come that way. So my question to the group is, does anyone have a 69 original with the rear antenna, and would it be possible to get a cut out with the exact location before I drill a hole in my very expensive paint. Thanks Joe P.
Re: [Chevelle-list] Antennas location
To answer your question why did GM put he antenna up front Remember were talking OLD school AM Radio. your heard every Mercury light transformer, every bad pole step down transformer and if you light switch dimmer was bad that made an interfering BUZZ.. Now the mid 60's cars went to Alternators helped, But Noise was big problem with radio reception and the in car noise was no exception.. So keep the antenna feed line SHORT to minimize it.. I had a 61 Chevy i installed dual rear antennas, what a mistake I had to install Filter caps every where to be able to hear a clear reception of the AM signal. I went for the COOL Look :( Wayne To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Wed, 6 Aug 2008 09:15:56 -0400From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Re: [Chevelle-list] Antennas locationHey Guys,I was with Jim Hinshaw a couple of weeks ago, and asked him why Gm put the antenna up in front that it would look so much better on the rear passenger fender. Re: [Chevelle-list] Antennas location
Mine WAS on the front fender. I had them shave it off when I went to paint. I'm just going to install Sirius radio, and be done with it. I'm hoping I can hide the Sirius antenna under the cowl panel... -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: The Chevelle Mailing List chevelle-list@chevelles.net Sent: Wed, 6 Aug 2008 6:32 am Subject: Re: [Chevelle-list] Antennas location To answer your question why did GM put he antenna up front Remember were talking OLD school ?AM Radio.?your heard every Mercury light transformer, every bad pole step down transformer and if you light switch dimmer was bad that made an interfering BUZZ..?Now the mid 60's cars went to Alternators helped, But Noise was big problem with radio reception and the in car noise was no exception.. Re: [Chevelle-list] Antennas location
I have a '68 with the rear mount option. I can take some pictures this weekend with measurements if you need it. The antenna is off the car right now so its a good time. I am sure the location is the same. Joe one of my 69s has the rear option. It is stripped with the antenna off. Tell me exactly what you need and I'll try to get it for you. Joe, mine came stock with the antenna on the right rear fender and I wish it was on the front fender. Re: [Chevelle-list] Antennas location
Dennis any particular reason you would want on the front? Growing up, I thought that the rear mount vertical antenna on camaros, chevy IIs and malibus were the toughest thing going. I was not as enthralled with the swept back antennas on earlier Impalas. How about a '58 convertible with twin antennas? Don't care if they work; just looks good. -- You can only be young once. Re: [Chevelle-list] Antennas location
I can agree that they look good, but the later vertical antenna is just more appealing to me.
