[Chevelle-list] Happy New Year : Door Hinge
Hello, just wanted to wish everyone on the list a happy new year, i did miss the year of ricks car on the door hinge issue, i have a 67 and someone told me in order to get to the hinge bolts one would have to remove a fender, instresting, never considered taking removing the door, was just wondering if the same method would work on a 67, thanks, ronnie - Looking for last minute shopping deals? Re: [Chevelle-list] Happy New Year : Door Hinge
Ronnie Happy new Year back at ya. My elky is a 72. The hinges are probably very similar in design if not identical. I removed the 3 bolts holding each hinge to the door. I drove out the hinge pin and left the chassis portion attached to the body. Basically rebuilt it on the car. If you do it this way be absolutely sure to tape up the rear edge of the fender leading edge of the door. I also used a couple of old beach towels as bumpers. Also people have highly recommended marking the location of the door side hinge so you can get it close on the reinstallation.Rebuilding the hinge was easy (once I got the drill spring tool) , it was the reinstallation and realignment of the door which took time. And finally, on my 72 at least, I it looks like I could have rebuilt the lower hinge without completely removing the door. But it was impossible to reinstall the hinge pin on the upper because of interference with the door sheetmetal. Lastly, if you do rebuild yours, make sure that the flutes at the head of the hinge pin are not too long. They should only be long enough that they engage the metal of the hinge not pass into the bushing. If I find my camera I'll post pictures. Hi guys, I'm L. Michael Smith; Pres and originator of "PACE" Palmetto Chevelles in So. Carolina. I'm very thankful for this Christmas and, now, New Years for many-many reasons, but, mainly for the fact that I totaled my S-10 extd cab on Christmas eve.( hyroplained-did a 450 deg.spind, then flipped siedways 2 1/2 times-landing upside down in 3' of water,in the big storm that hit Charleston SC about noon),with a good friend aboard, and we both walked away unscaved. Being home and not in a hospital/morgue was shear luck. NOW- HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YO ALL and please STAYSAFE out there.

My appreciation to John also. And all others that contribute to this list. I thought I knew everything there was to know about old Chevy's till I listened to you guys. lol... Really tho I am enjoying this list more than any that I am on. My 67 is coming along slowly. Got too many honey do's to work on it as much as I would like. But I am learning things that will help me down the road for sure. Top of the new year to all!!! [Chevelle-List] Happy New Year!
Happy New Year.. Please Be Safe... Lisa and I just returned home after witnessing a "Tragedy", A Grand Sport Corvette in the middle of an intersection hit by some careless/mindless kid out for a joyride in his "Momma's" Car.No injuries other than a once pristine collector car now with months of work to return to service... (if at all!) Guess he'll have a Holliday to remember for awhile. Johnnie Lisa Lawson ' 72 Chevelle SS "Cheaptrick" Team Chevelle # 0145
