I would guess on the switch as well so take your switch out and look at it and smell if its burnt. If its not borrow one and try it. Have Fun! Re: [Chevelle-list] Headlights
http://www.madelectrical.com/electrical-tech.shtml This is a good site. I've run GE Halogen sealed beams in three different cars for years and liked them a lot. Not to state the obvious but the charging system has to be putting out like it should. Ditch the 37 amp alternator. I still use old style voltage regulators, they are not the problem the 37 amp alternator is marginal. A good electric shop should be able to hook you up with an upgrade in the 60 amp range.(or bigger for a lot of added accessories) Also, it's worthwhile to pull all the connectors off and clean the terminals. (I use a little homemade tool made from an old spring to release the tab and slide terminal out of plastic housing) All grounds need to be clean. I have all 64's so can't vouch for later years but in general some of the wiring could have been a size heavier. Cheapskates at Chevy accounting? Also the headlights on a 64 ground through one wire! I know, it fell off once at night. No I didn't like it. Any how I did the relay thing and it does help. I also split the grounding so I don't lose them all at once again. my 2 cents Pete Geurds Douglassville, PA
Re: [Chevelle-list] Headlights
Scott and Clint, Your both very welcome. There are some good ideas on that website. After reading Mark Hamilton's website, I used relays to power the headlights, and the electric fuel pump. Both turned out GREAT. Also, learned how to solder properly to make the best electrical connections. Mark was also very helpful with any questions I had. He is definately one of the Good Guys out there. Re: [Chevelle-list] Headlights
Title: Re: [Chevelle-list] Headlights I second the good things to say about madelectrical.com I bought 2 pair of Bosch H4s for my '67, and that made a definite improvement on the stock T3s. A few months after that, I rewired the headlights with relays, and that was simply outstanding. A few monthat after *that,* I followed the directions to correct the original wiring harness flaws mentioned (http://www.madelectrical.com/electricaltech/chevymain1.shtml) and add remote voltage sensing http://www.madelectrical.com/electricaltech/remotevoltagesensing.shtml Now, even with all original electrical accessories running, as well as amplifiers, MSD box, and the upgraded headlights, I can't get below 13 volts. Yes, it was a lot of work, and yes, I'd do it again. The results are worth it! Dave. -- www.swingvictoria.com

Re: [Chevelle-list] Headlights
You might add some relays so you can run some 100A high beams. Some good bulbs will set the grass afire by the side of the road. Very good questions,Scott, and I hope we see some good discussion on this subject. The headlights on my 69 are just pathetic and I have been thinking about swapping the sealed beams out for some Lucas-style tribar units with halogen bulbs. Wala, it worked! Thanks to all who responded on this. I decided I'd go for the easy fix first and today just replaced the bulb. Works fine. I guess the low beam filament was burnt out. I'll save the various posts tho for future reference when the problem turns out to be something more than just the bulb.
RE: [Chevelle-list] Headlights
My 72 had the same problem, but reversed, only the right low beam worked. It turned out to be that the left low beam wire was corroded where it crimps to the spade lug. I had to push the spade lug out of the plastic connector, cut the wire, trim the wire and recrimp it. Then I pushed the spade lug back into the plastic connector and plugged it in. Wala, it worked! Re: [Chevelle-list] Headlights
Heya! This used to happen to me. It turned out to be a combination of bad grounds at the headlights, as well as burnt connectors. Buy a dozen 0.375" (check that, it might be different for stock lights. That's 3/8") female spade terminals and some heatshrink, and replace the old connectors. Clean the grounds as well. :-) I also inserted relays and replaced all the wire with heavier gauge, as I went to 60w H4s. What a difference! I'd recommend it if you ever drive at nighttime, and don't need to keep your car totally original. Hope this helps, Dave. Symptom: On low beam, the right side doesnt light, only the left.
